[PEDA] Routing a big PGA part
Hello, I am looking for some info and help on a decent routing scheme for a 200+ pin PGA socket. I am using only a 2 sided board right now, but wondering if a 4 layer layout would be best. Customer wants to go low cost.. Seems you run out of routing room from the inside pins to the outside ones. Not much room to drop vias in. I thought I might have to pull out the center pins to put in vias, but run into the problems again, no routing room. Any suggestions or visual aids? Thanks from a new protel99 user! [PEDA] Layer
Hi, I'm trying to make rules for some type of component only route in one specific layer (bottom or top) in a 2 side board. I'm using the InComponent('designator') function in the advanced query and make the constraints for just one type of layer (bottom or top) but Protel still route that in 2 two layers. [PEDA] Protel 99SE ERC
This is a little hard to explain, but here goes... I am running the ERC on a schematic in Protel 99SE. It's interesting that there isn't a rule for determining whether a port has a mating counterpart. The Orcad ERC has a place where it will verify that all off-page connectors have mating counterparts. The only thing Protel 99 verifies is that the port is connected to something electrical. If you had a port that was supposed to match a port on another page, but you mispelled one of them, had a space in one of them, etc. you wouldn't know it by using the ERC. That seems really strange to me! [PEDA] PCB Routing GND
I have not found a way yet to disable, or stop, Protel from routing GND traces. I have a GND plane and all of the components are connected to it via thermals. However, when ever I use the AutoRouter the program begins routing GND traces. I have created classes that have all the signals and trace widths associated with them but this did not help. I have disabled the system board routing layer and only enabled mine. But again that did not help. How do I stop Protel from routing GND traces when I have a GND layer that the components are already connected too? [PEDA] How to place non-plated thru holes?
Hello -- I was directed to this group as the place where most Protel experts hung out. I am a newbie to Protel and am using Protel99 SE for PCB layout. My question is simple: I want to place a non-plated through hole on my design. I want to void out the plane layers around the hole also. How do I do it? It appears that I can either place a pad or a via, but neither is really a through hole, and it's not obvious (to me, at least) that they will correctly void out the plane layer. [PEDA] How do I remove an Internal Plane in 99SE sp6?
Hi I've created a 6 layer board where I've used split planes on 2 internal planes for power supply. When the need came for using some parts of the power planes for normal signal routing, I've decided to use Polygon Planes on MidLayers and do the extra signal routing on the same layers. I've added 2 Mid Layers, created the Polygon Planes for power distribution and tried to delete the internal planes but ends up with the error message 'InternalPlane1 is being used and cannot be removed'. The same error message goes for InternalPlane2. The former Split Planes have been deleted successfully. InternalPlane 1 and 2 are assigned to 'No Net'. What else needs be done to delete the Internal Planes? [PEDA] 1.12 under XP???
Hardlock .CDE files: ... Now, in version 1.12 this file will be identified by the Protel for Windows serial number, e.g. S1000999.CDE, etc. This system allows the access codes for each license to be kept either on the server's Windows directory, or on the node's Windows directory OK, I loaded my .cde file into C:\windows and 1.12 says hardlock device not found. Any Ideas? Trying to run this old version under XP to get back some very old files. [PEDA] Find and Replace text feature for Footprint Library.
I'm a Newbie around... Does someone have any macros or scripts which could ease out modifying the Pad designators manually in the PCB Library of 99 SE. For instance,I just can edit globally by coding {C1Â}for selected items in the Schematic library. Is there a way I could do this in the PCB library as well using a script ? IS this feature available in Protel DXP. Re: [PEDA] Teams, Permissions and shared .ddbs
Hi Drew, I have also been doing the same as you recently and it certainly is difficult to administer. We have a similar approach to yours but with a difference. We have experimented with user permissions but haven't really used it properly except for the common library. Based on our experiance this is my suggestion to you. Since it is possible to move libraries from one ddb to another (if they are both open on the same workstation, drag and drop from one ddb to another), I suggest that each user has his own user library ddb and then have a seperate common 'read-only' library which is updated periodically making sure that the new component symbols have the right pcb footprint called up. If a new footprint is required then the user can generate one when the component symbol is generated, making sure the name given for the footprint is not already used in the common footprint library. Updating the common library should be done by one designated person who will need to be careful to verify that the new components that are added to the comman library are correct in all thier detail. When updating the common library, both the common ddb snd the user ddb are opened and the libraries are DD from the user to to common library. This will make a copy of the user ddb library in the common ddb. Then each new part in the copy of the 'user' library can be moved to an appropriate library in the common ddb, first checking and if need be, modifying, to ensure its compatibility and correctness. When all the new parts are moved over, the copy of user library can be deleted. This is the way I do it and it seems to work well. We did try modifying the common library directly but this often resulted in work being lost because of multiple users working on the comman library ddb. I hope this helps Posted from Association web site by: Tim Coleman * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * To post a message: mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] * * To join or leave this list visit: * http://www.techservinc.com/protelusers/subscrib.html * - or email - * mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]?body=leave%20proteledaforum * * Contact the list manager: * mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * *
[PEDA] BGA Design
Has anyone designed a fine pitch BGA, ~400pin, in Protel99SE? If so, what issues or difficulties did you encounter? Could it be done? My concern is with Protel's ability and ease of use in developing a large SMT design with BGAs, multiple via types, Via shapes, Paste mask aperatures. ie. how manufacturable the final result would be, how effective the use of design rules are Regards, Colin Weber Posted from Association web site by: Colin Weber * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * To post a message: mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] * * To join or leave this list visit: * http://www.techservinc.com/protelusers/subscrib.html * - or email - * mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]?body=leave%20proteledaforum * * Contact the list manager: * mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * *
