which port are they using, 25 587 ?
(most isp are blocking port 25)

the answer is 25 - tell them to use 587
(check before if 587 isn't blocked by your firewall)

if they already use 587, ask them to copy/send the error

Sounds like you didn't configure Outlook correctly. Are you using the
FULL email address for the username?

Does it work without SSL?

The process turned out to be much simpler and painless than I
expected. I downloaded the clamav and simscan packages and did an
RPMBUILD of each. Then RPM -e for the existing simscan and clamav
packages, and then RPM -Uvh for each (clamav first, than simscan).

Clamd process is no longer dominating the box's CPU, and the other
errors seem to have faded away.

I am still curious. No one ever told me. What /is/ the
'NOP0FCHECK=1' switch in the tcp.smtp file? Inquiring minds really
do want to know.

the same with your older version of spamassassin. Lastly, rebuild
and

reinstall simscan to see if that clears anything up.

Glad to hear you got it working.
From Erik's post on 1-10-07 in regards to NOP0FCHECK (remember, that's
a zero after the P, not the letter O like in the NO part):

The new simscan has support for passive operating system checking.
This will allow you to block Windows machines with broken reverse dns
or something.

This, however, requires the p0f daemon installed and running. I am not
planning on making this daemon a part of the QmailToaster. As such, I
have disabled this functionality.

FWIW,

I updated clam from 90 to 92 yesterday. I'm running on CentOS 4.6

It was doing the 100% cpu usage, and rejecting all smtp mail for way too
long.

After building and installing the new clam, things worked fine.

You might want to rebuild the cdb's too so that simscan reports the
correct

versions of clam/sa.

I did do that. I try to remember to qmailctl cdb every time before I
start up. But thank you for the reminder. It's a good thing to get
into the archives, if nothing else.

Just out of curiousity, do you recall which version of clamav-

Actually, I had the same version. But the version that I had included
the upgraded/expanded Clamav definitions from one of the options in
the qtp-menu. Which I had enabled after the failed qtp-newmodel the
night before, since I'd been unable to upgrade spamassassin. I had

I only knew what I googled, and I've forgotten enough that I
wouldn't want
to go into it off the top of my head. I don't recall exactly when
it came

Jake managed to answer this, for which I am appreciative. I'm glad we

[qmailtoaster] Cannot Send Email!!!

2008-03-28 Thread Roxanne Sandesara
I attempted an update (via qtp-newmodel) last night, which errored
out on the spamassassin package (per earlier messages on the list). I
didn't think this would be a problem and had no reason to believe
this would affect the server. There were a few other packages that
were updated via yum, including a kernel update. So I rebooted the
server.

Everything seems to be fine on the surface. But something is
significantly wrong. None of my users can send email with any
consistency. Most are being soft-rejected, despite being authorized
users connecting on the submission port with proper credentials.

This appears to also be affecting, somehow, incoming email as well,
as several users have reported phone calls from folks outside who
have sent email and not received responses - because the emails in
question were never received.

I need help to troubleshoot and correct this. Where can I find
details on /why/ an attempt to send a message is soft-rejected? qmlog
submission shows the following:

on /why/ an attempt to send a message is soft-rejected? qmlog

There's your repetative problem. What does the qmail logs say? such

Yes, you need it for more recent toaster versions (I don't recall when it
first came into play). I don't think it would hurt with older versions.

Put it in every line in your tcp.smtp file, rebuild the cdb, and see if that
doesn't fix things up.

OK. I've added that. Thus far, it does appear to have worked, but I
can't be sure if that's just the usual 'come and go' of this problem
or an actual honest-to-goodness solution.

On my own, personal toaster server, which I only installed a month
ago, fresh, this value was not added to the tcp.smtp line. If this is
something one needs to have, shouldn't the packages add that to the
files as they are created?

I'm surprised that a fresh install wouldn't have it. Did you start with the
latest, or did you upgrade to the latest after installing a previous
version first?

On an upgrade, you should see a .rpmnew file that contains the change. The
upgrade process (rpm) isn't sophisticated enough to make changes to
configuration files, so in the event that there's a change, the new
configuration file is tagged with the .rpmnew extension (sometimes it's
replaced, and the previous file is tagged .rpmold). You should always
examine .rpmnew files for changes from the version you used before any
customization. This is SOP for rpm.

Re: [qmailtoaster] Cannot Send Email!!!

2008-03-28 Thread Roxanne Sandesara
I've had to remove that rule, whatever it may apply do. No one was
able to send email. Not one of the email clients in-house (Outlook,
Entourage, or Mac Mail) could send with that enabled. Once I removed
it, everyone was fine.

But now I'm getting reports from users of emails that are not coming
through. The queue is empty. The messages are not ending up in their
Spam boxes on the server.

Let me get my questions in order, here:
1) My personal mail server was a fresh, clean install, and it does
not have this rule. What is this rule? Why is it required? Can it be
set to 0 instead of 1? To what effect?

2) I tried to improve the spam condition here, by using the QTP-Menu
option qtp-extraclam. How do I reverse that action?

3) Spamassassin is set to mark the headers. It shouldn't be deleting
email, or chucking it back to sender. Where could the missing emails
be going?

Are you getting any errors in the clam or spamd logs?
For giggles, try manually rebuilding and reinstalling clamav, then do
the same with your older version of spamassassin. Lastly, rebuild and
reinstall simscan to see if that clears anything up.

Re: [qmailtoaster] Cannot Send Email!!!

2008-03-28 Thread Eric Shubert
You can run the qtp-build-sandbox command from the command line. This will
build the old style sandbox, not unionfs. Then you can chroot to the sandbox
and do whatever trips your trigger (for the most part). ;) Whatever you do
inside of the chroot'd tree will not touch the running server. You can
build/install rpms there (which is what qtp-newmodel does). I don't think
you can actually run qmail in the sandbox though, especially since the
sandbox has been trimmed down.

I have tried and push my providers to put up rDNS entry to add my static

You could use something like dyndns.org I think - Eric Shubes uses it if
I remember right.
Otherwise no, you'll need to rent a server/get someone to host your
domain for you to be able to send emails like that. I don't remember if
it was brought up before but you could send through their servers as well.

TTBOMK rDNS can only be configured by the owner of the IP block. They can
either delegate the authority to your DNS, or maintain it themselves. If
your ISP is unable/unwilling to do this for you, I'd seriously try to find
one who can/will.

I do use dyndns.org's mailhop outbound relay service (and their custom dns
too) for toasters that are on dynamic IP addresses, which avoids RBL and
rDNS problems. Works like a charm. Only $15/yr for 150 messages/day.

Is reverse DNS (rDNS) configured properly for your server?

You have no rDNS (see below). This is something your B/W provider will
need to set for you. Your rDNS must resolve to your FQDN. Also you're
listed on spamhaus pbl: http://www.spamhaus.org/query/bl?ip=69.73.199.98
Here's another list you're on:
http://www.uceprotect.net/en/rblcheck.php?ipr=69.73.199.98

col1.caribsurf.com. (an authoritative nameserver for
199.73.69.in-addr.arpa., which is in charge of the reverse DNS for
69.73.199.98) says that there are no PTR records for 69.73.199.98.

First get with your ISP and have them set your rDNS. Once that's done
you can request removal from the lists.

month we host the mailbox on our own box (Thanks to qmailtoaster). The MX was
changed to point to our box. We can send and receive from any domain without
any problem.

However, if we send to any mail that hosted on that ISP, we get a failure
notice like this:

Hi. This is the qmail-send program at mail.mydomain.com.
I'm afraid I wasn't able to deliver your message to the following addresses.
This is a permanent error; I've given up. Sorry it didn't work out.

[EMAIL PROTECTED]:
210.210.145.48 does not like recipient.
Remote host said: 550-Verification failed for [EMAIL PROTECTED]
550-Unknown user
550 Sender verify failed
Giving up on 210.210.145.48.

One interesting fact too regarding the smtp. If we use the ISP dialup and use
their smtp too for sending mail using outlook express with mydomain.com user,
it gets rejected with similar respond: user unknown.

I suspect that it's because the ISP hasn't deleted our domain from their
mailserver?

What do you think?
Thanks.

Yes, it seems like the ISP has still not deleted your domain information
from his DNS.

Have them delete the txt records or read up on http://spf.pobox.com/
and use the wizard.
