I'm trying to find another catheter my doctor doesn't like the silicone
catheter I've been using. My UTI's are better, but they are so stiff. He says
could be some of my problems when changing it and stuff.
So, are the silver coated better and less stiff?

I use the Bardex IC (Infection Control) 16fr. It says it has a silver coating.

I use a silicone, because I found out I'm allergic to latex. I have alot less
problems with silicone, but with what you described I might be allergic to the
silicone, but not as bad as latex I know of no other catheters that I can use.
Does your insurance pay for the Saline solution? I use a 24 french and 10cc or
I should say thats what the doctor uses.,.I get him to change it once a month
if I go much longer than that it feels like he's ripping out my guts.. what do
ya'll irrigate with?

Quadius [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote:
The main reason I asked about the type of catheter is because I discovered
about 10 years ago that I am allergic to the silicone products. I first
noticed it when I had a silicone trach to which my skin became adhered. Ear
nose and throat had to rip the trach right out of my neck and finally got them
to agree to do reconstructive surgery about five or six years later.
When I have a silicone catheter in my body, my bladder spasms profusely, I
feel like I have a terrible UTI, the stoma tries to adhered itself to the
catheter, and there are excessive amounts of calcification on the end of the
catheter when it is removed. I now only use latex catheters with a little bit
of silicone coating.
According to my care providers, this is an abnormal allergy, but I thought
I'd let you know about it since you're, seems to close around your catheter.

If your bones are straight then they probably won't do surgery after 7 wks, but
depending you might need more calcium and time it took me from december to
august to heal my first break of the tibia/fibia which was broken through both,
but the second time I broke them they were only fractured a lil lower (it took
from june till september to heal) but they healed inside -out instead of
outside- in, believe me at first it didn't seem they were healing at first.
Sometimes the growing bone process just takes more time just becareful of how
much calcium, because I was getting more calcium deposit in my bladder also get
some sun on it the vitamin D from the sun helps too it did me at least. I know
everyones different. or take calcium w/ D.
But remember it takes us more time to heal than the average person especially
bones.
So, don't get to discouraged, it will heal just in its own time.

Hi ya'll, I have an SP too. And I have that problem about the catheter coming out on the change dates my doctor does( Usually every 4 weeks oronce a month) because what is happening is your body is growing around the catheter trying to close the hole or you can say the body is attaching itself to the hose its trying to heal itself. And it will bleed some especially when you rip it out. but if you dont stop bleeding you need to go to the hospital, but usually it will only bleeda lil bit. It's easy to put back in because you reopened the hole again.I see my urologist on the 16th. Hope this helps.. Gina Dan [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: Hey Quadius,My problem is the opposite. She does not know what she is going to do in terms of divorcing or not but she's told her best friend that she needs some time away. She has refused to take the family to any counseling since my injury in 2000 and she refuses to go to any type of marriage counseling together or alone. 2006-09-18 Thread gina
I was told that some of that sediment depending on the stuff you are seeing might also be your bladder lining. My doctor also said that it is normal to see some sediment the reason is its going through a tube and we pay more attention to our urine then when we did when we were able bodied. Also just in case as we always have some good bacteria in our body that is why we have to pay greater attention not to take to many antibiotics because we are getting rid of the good bacteria as well as the bad, so be careful and make sure that you have the symptoms of a U.T.I. ginakaye allard [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: Ok, this is new and fascinating to me. I have always wondered what the white stuff is composed of. I have always had some sort of sediment off and on and really want to know what it is. I got something

It was treated (with a daily injection that also made me puke) and went away...? It makes sense that this would also happen over time, though. Well hopefully carbonated drinks does not include sparkling water. It's got to be all the crap in soda that can have this effect. I use an external condom and rarely get a bladder infection.I do still get periods when my urine is high in sediment and the sediment is almost 95% calcium. I haven't been catheterized since 2000. This is the hardest thing that anyone should have to go through as you all know. I cry everyday for him, but im just so glad he is still alive. He was involved in a 2 car accident in which he broke his neck in two areas C1-C2 and C6-C7.. he was in ICU for two months on a ventilator, they fused his neck all the way from C7 to the base of his head.. we sent him to Craig Hospital in Denver Colorado, where he got the best quality care available. They weened him off the vent, no more treich. and re-did his fused neck and took the hardware out down to C-5 , he has alot more neck movement nowHe has movement with his right arm and can work his power chair with a joy stick and feed himself at times. He is getting
some feeling down his left arm now. His spirit is high and he is a fighter. thank god. we pray everyday for him.. we are saving money and having garage sales as fundraisers. but i was curious if maybe there was any foundations that help out with this sort of thing? i read all your post and have learned somethings and am very very glad i found you.. thank you and god bless dennis [EMAIL PROTECTED] From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] To: [EMAIL PROTECTED], quad-list@eskimo.com,

I feel I'm a pretty positive person and I don't want to pop anyones bubble, but with all the red tape that it takes or is going to take for the US to let stem cells no matter how they get them to operate on us...I do hope they do, but unless you are newly hurt I'm not sure its going to be worth the extensive therapy one would have to endure to walk again, only for the fact Ive heard that astronauts have to have alot of therapy depending on the length of time they spend in spacelike I think it was for 6 mos in space they had to have 2 yrs of therapy, because like us they arent using their legs, Ive been paralyzed for almost 7yrs and as Mark said " i have more important thing to focus on" I have a 16 yr old to raise and her future and to be there however I can for my family. I do hope one day they find a cure, I'm not saying that, but there is life after the chair or in the chair. However that
is said..And I'mhappy for I went from a nusing home to my own apartment to getting my daughter back things can be good. As was said try to be positive... negativity doesnt get you very far..Don't thinkof the cup Half full or Half empty be thankful you have a cup. Gina[EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: Someone (stranger) at my accident scene said, "Well, you're sure screwed now buddy." I had no idea what he was talking about. My brother broke his neck ten years earlier, and was not paralyzed (happens about 5% of the time)- so I knew what was in store for me. My doc - same doc as my brother - said, "No, yours is different." I
thought, OK I can do 'different.' Well, this is different ok. He got pissed at people telling him how lucky he was as he lay on a Stryker frame for 6 weeks growing bones. Now he pretty much agrees with that comment. I also realize how lucky I am as a partially paralyzed C3 - this list has taught me a few things about paralysis. I had a lot of false-positive things said to me but about 2 months in to my rehab, they sent in Dr. Hatchet who informed me they were going to give up on my walking skills and concentrate on getting me functional in a chrome Cadillac. Ugly but necessary - tough love I guess you call it. Nat many people in the know spent a lot of time telling me I'd be walking again. I'm sure WE will find a procedure to alleviate thecurrent pathetic attempts at repairing nerve damage, however I don't think we'll see a major breakthrough in the next 10 years. 15 or 20 maybe - there's a lot
of politicking that needs doing 1st. My hope rides with a foreign country that doesn't have the political stem cell barriers to break that WE do here. You can bet that when that happens, WE will be first to help ride the wave, loudly beating our drums, and wherever I am, I'll have a BIG smile.DaveIn a message dated 7/17/2006 2:18:41 P.M. I was 205 at 5'6. I'm now down to 135. I've kept my weight down for 2 yrs now.At first, skip breakfast and eat soup and salads for lunch and dinner, then my mom told me about the Atkins Diet. I didn't go totally by it but did cut the bread n pasta n potatoes n most carbs. I did eat a Hamburger I would just take off the top bread or bottom depending on which one had all the stuff on it. I started eating breakfast i'd have a hard boiled egg and bacon or scrambled egg and sausage. When I wanted to eat something sweet I would just eat a lil at that time that way you don't over gorge yourself, because if you try to wait you want it more an more. I also, drink diet drinks orI'll eat sugar free cookies or sugar freecandy. And drink alot of water. You need to try not to make your body think your dieting. I'm a c6c7 quad so I am able to push my self in a manual which I used until I got my power chair, but I still try to use it a couple of days

Mark is right you are going to need to be very patient and you will need to cross every T and dot every I. I know myself that section 8 housing is always overloaded but still put in a application. Also check into Subsidized apartments they go by your income if that is 1 of your problems. I don't know if these are in Florida but here is there website and they might be able to help a lil but there are some other kinds of apartments like this. www.accessiblespace.org. easier and faster to get on while you are in a nursing home so try to get it before you get out. Look into Home Health Agencies for Providers and Nurses. I live here near Houston. I understand how this guy feels. I have felt this way at times. I have friends in Louisiana, so I wanted to help as much as possible myself. I couldn't myself volunteer, but I have helped by giving some money because they said it was needed the most, because we have been flooded here in Houston by Tropical Storms and by Hurricanes ourselves, so we know how it feels to lose our homes and be flooded out. That's why I think Houston opened our arms so much, plus its that southern hospitality... I sit here though and watch the news and see that their are some that are so grateful for what the houstonians have done and feel really proud of the people here in Houston. Then their are some that are so ungrateful a fewexamples: When they were in the astrodome they had to put a curfew on them, because they were coming in all hours of the night. They would say its like a prison, but why would you need to be out at 3 a.m. if you werent cau!
 sing
trouble or getting into trouble, right? They did it to cause a lil less confusion, think about there were thousands of people in one area everyone coming and going it causes confusion.
Then I was watching last couple of days now: I know its HOT in Houston and I know it sucks to stand in line for things, I've had to and I know others have, but they are receivingFREE money to help them live on. Couldn't they show some appreciation? All I've heard is they had to stand in line for hours and hours and how hot and tired they are and that they are sent from one place to another, but we can't help that there are so many people the only way to be able to get to everyone is by a line. And we can't help that the funds run out of one place and they need to go to another place. I do feel very sorry for these people who lost everything. They need to understand that these people trying to help them are only human.

I hope noone takes what I say wrong like I said i have a ton of sympathy for the Louisianians, I gave what I could and I pray we can keep helping them and they can get home soon. They could show a lil more gratitude though and not all are being that way just some.Sorry so long ya'll and its just a lil view here.
