Deaky P recommended that I dwell on other numbers. One of the other numbers that I have been dwelling on are Strava numbers. I’ve been expecting to improve personal bests on local benchmark climbs. One of the is the BHS Time Trial. A steep and loose trail climb of 1.1 miles that is used by most of the local racers to gauge fitness. I had set the goal for myself to become only the second rider on Strava in the 45-54 age group to do this climb in under ten minutes (joining our own head coach at El Cerrito High). I did the ride yesterday and put down a 9:46. Thank you, Patrick- that reminds me of playing on the floor with my kids- it always felt good, and I haven't spent much time on the floor since, I think I'll start again- Andy On Friday, March 9, 2018 at 12:05:15 PM UTC-5, Deacon Patrick wrote: > > Andy asked about floor living. Andy asked about floor living. No chairs. Bed is a platform bed with a thin wool pad. The idea came out of what I learned going barefoot almost a decade ago. Because of my bludgeoned brain I have constant neurological vertigo (basically I feel like I’m on two planets simultaniously, each with constantly changing gravity strength and direction, plus whatever my own motion is). What barefooting taught me is my feet were weak because of shoes, rather than I need more supportive, cushioned, raised heel shoes because my feet are weak. My body learned to know, though the input from my bare feet, where I was in space. And I began moving better, smoother, no more knee or back issues (which stemmed from cushioned, raised heel shoes, I now know). Anyway, I applied the same concept to furniture, realizing that the best nights sleep I was getting was durring bikepacking. It took months (like shifting to barefoot) for mymuscles and body to shift and strengthen and learn how to move better, (and a year or so for full transition), but now the only chair I sit in is the car seat and I sit corss-legged in that. Our whole family shifted to floor living, and what we discovered is we feel constantly better, with strong cores, lithe muscles, far fewer aches and pains. Turns out science is catching up with this idea, though the solutions they come up with miss returning to the simplest solution. All those studies that show sitting in an office chair is bad for heart health, etc? Floor living. Grin. [RBW] Re: Eat Bacon Don't Jog--Goal set, goal me
Great thread all! Congrats to all of you that have found success. I am found the same success a couple of years ago with this method as well. I was gaining weight and not feeling my best with a bunch of small kids to take care of. In addition, I have an auto immune gut issue that was flaring on and off for almost 16 years. I decided to do a modified Paleo diet eliminating gluten, grains, and refined sugars. It has done wonders for my life. I am back to my old college hockey playing weight, have tons of energy, and feel great. My gut has been in good condition throughout as well. I cheat and have some bread once a week (a slice of homemade stuff) and that is about it. When I travel and get off track I really feel it. It is amazing how much your body can tolerate, abuse wise, through diet. All of your stories about high weight, A1C, etc really speak on that. We are all so used to feeling terrible from our modern diets that we don't even know what healthy feels like anymore. Grant's book is great and while I have a different variation of it, it speaks much truth. I do have a sweet tooth and still eat sweets but they are made with maple syrup, honey, almond flour, etc. I still want to enjoy that aspect of life, after all! -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "RBW Owners Bunch" group. Hi Deacon, I’m intrigued by your phrase “floor living.” Would you mind explaining it? Ahhh. Excellent point, Bill. I happily bow to the reality that you need numbers. May I rephrase, please? Grin. The waist and weight numbers may not be the best numbers to focus on. Consider being open to other numbers that may be more pertinant (which may only reveal themselves after, and because, of focusing on waist and weight goals. Grin. [RBW] Re: Eat Bacon Don't Jog--Goal set, goal me
Deacon recommended not dwelling on the numbers. Brains are each wired differently. The notion of having a goal and NOT dwelling on the numbers, for me sounds like trying to build a bicycle without using circles. Sardonic grin I can give up beer, but I NEED MY NUMBERS!! Fantastic, Bill. I’d recommend not focusing so much on weight or waist size but on feel (energy, capacity, endurance, stability, joy, delight...). It’s fascinating to me how much floor living keeps the core solid and strong and thus thicker. As I’ve mentioned before, I am ketogenic (via the Perfect Health Diet), with 80-90% of calories from fat. I don’t carry food on all day rides, and though I carry food on bikepacking trips I often don’t eat it. I intermitant fast 16-18 hours daily. I’ve been stable at 200 pounds on this basic approach for quite a few years now. But then I eat by feel just as I ride by feel. Grin. Nice write up, and good work! I know I feel better with a diet aligned with the eb side of ebdj, but haven’t been able to click with a hiit routine. I will say that I find David Ludwig’s book to be a sure fire way to curb the sugar cravings, just not my style of food. They just released a cookbook recently that may be worth looking at. -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "RBW Owners Bunch" group.
