Hey Wrenches,
Thanks for all the great feedback on off-grid refrigerators.
We decided to go with a GE 18 Cu Ft refrigerator. It's a pretty standard
model and uses just over 1 kWh/day (369 kWh/year energy star rated).

We recently installed a Frigidaire refrigerator
in our off gird house, and it uses about 1 KWh/
Day. It is nothing very special, but works fine.

Hi Dana
Yes in the last year I bought a new refrigerator
( kitchen aid)
And didn’t buy a LG due to really bad reviews,
class action lawsuit on compressor problems
etc. Too bad as there other stuff is really
well made.
I would only recommend a refrigerator that
you can get repaired locally

(Small clarification)* R600 is actually Isobutane,
with good
success. They are more environmentally benign as well.

I like soft start and programmable defrost during daylight hours. Look
at the LG 22 cubic foot inverter. Also when looking at energy star keep in
mind they inflated the US numbers 4 years or so back, and the Canadian are
the old numbers. I look at both! If in a ambient temperature neutral home I
Kenmore did have good appliances for years but a great many of them were
made by other manufacturers and marketed under the Kenmore label. But
those days are over and recently Kenmore has been rumored to be either
sold by Sears or simply disappear. Sears itself may not last long
either. I'd
Will, not only did we get tired of the lack of freezer space and water on
the floor (or creating a science experiment in the back of the refrigerator
when the 1/4" drain got plugged up with food scraps), but all the hardware
breaking or shelves crashing was a major annoyance...

Hello Off-grid Wrenches,
After 10+ years my Wife is finally sick of our Sunfrost RF-12. We'd like to
upgrade to something a little more modern that doesn't leak water all over the
floor when it's
Assuming you have a sinewave inverter t this point, I agree with Jerry about
going to a 120vac fridge. However, I would suggest going to your computer
before the appliance store. For Kathleen and I, Energy Star rated is the
starting point. There is some really good info here:

This has been on topic many times and im sure it will be many more times, l
have many off grid customers that at one point said the same thing. I asume
you have 120 vac, just measure the space you have and go to your local
appliance store and pick one out that has the good low usage
