Some of you have been following the fact that I am making in effort on
converting the SEA ESP1000 repeater to amateur radio use. Finnaly got
some other peoples radios off the bench and I have had the last few
nights to tinker.
Progress made so far:
Changed Mini-UHF jacks to BNC.

Eric,
I am sure you can connect the audios together from/to both rigs. One would
have to isolate the TNCs TX audio using just a couple of resistors. Their
values would depend on the rig TX audio input impedance, but typically is high
on Ham rigs so 1 kOhms resistors would probably work.

Eric Dave,
You will get collision since probably the two TNCs will not be talking to one
another one waiting for the other when needed.
However, depends on the application. Think Eric is going to be in control of
the data, not like being on busy frequencies like our 144.39 packet/APRS freq
Hi folks, I'm in need of your help, in obtaining the schematic of the

Please note: This information will be posted on other sites as well.

Dan,
It would seem to me that the issue here would be that the TNC's are not
individually addressable, thus two TNC's listening to a single radio will
both hear the signals from the sending TNC/radio combination and both will
try to act on the signal, unless the sending radio uses two

I seem to recall that the trick to doing this (other than diode steering the
PTT's and isolating the audio) was to steer the PTT signal from each TNC to
the other's RF-DCD port through a diode. That way, each TNC would know when
the other had the PTT in use. This was most commonly used to mux 1200

I have 3 Radio Shack SAME receivers, 2 base type, and recently a HT type. I
like the HT type for it displays time and temp...helps in some of my out door

Most of the SAME receivers I see, including the RS, the open audio is timed, RS

I'd like to see that article, too. Connecting two TNCs to one radio is
easy, but allocating the RX and TX functions between two devices is hardly a

Tom,
I have the RS 12-259, an HT type. Bought used and no manual. Took a while to
figure out the programming. I don't know if it turns off with command.
My two RS 12-249, the first ones they sold, base type, go for the 5 minutes.

DCFlux,
Writing the code is easy. Software is easy...that's why it is so popular.
Tons of high school drop outs doing it every day, hi.
The format of the data was somewhat complex and as you said wierd tones like
530 Hz and 1250 and don't think was ASCII. Had to build tone decoder and
All the new RS models are on a 5 min timer too. I don't know why there were a
few in-between that go off at the end of message command, probably the bean
counters got involved, a timer circuit is cheeper I would guess. One of these
days I am going to get this interfaced to my 7K.

Mike Morris,
The stop command in the SAME system is the same format as the initial alert
command. So a stop command is just software. Of course a timer is also. So
only factor would be if the microcomputer had enough memory to store the
additional programming.
