Re: [Request] Progress bar on client machines
Well what I do with osx is mount it on the retrospect server or somewhere and back it up. I do it while mac manager it turned off from the admin interface. The unfortunate thing is that I haven't tested the restore but I guess omnibackup is an alternative for osx in the mean time. michael Reef Corporate (Australia) Global Desktop Support Coordinator tel +61 (0)2 9213 3223 fax +61 (0)2 9212 4605 mobile +61 (0)402 130 132 PGP Key ID: 0x598EED9B www.reef.com ___ REEF is a global provider of Internetware for online publishing, e-commerce, Web site administration and dynamic asset management. Re: VXA users in Europe/Sweden?
Hello Jakob, VXA is distributed in Sweden through Giga AB, in Stockholm. Their website is www.gigatrading.se. There are also several resellers in Sweden: Desknet Datateknik AB (www.desknet.se), Logical Solutions AB (www.logical.se), United Business Machines UBM AB (www.ubm.se). For more information on where to buy VXA drives check the VXA "Where to Buy" guide at www.vxa.com/buyVXA. I've read the recent input on this list but if VXA is as good as the dealer says, how come no-one in Sweden is selling them? (MicroWarehouse, Dustin, Dabus etc.) My contact said the distributor didn't sell their product through "regular" channels... but if you have a great product, why don't try sell it through the big distributors? Also, if we get a VXA drive for about half the price of a AIT-1 drive, what happens next year, can we get tapes then or do we have to change system again? What I'm saying is, if this VXA is so great, how come there are so few using it. I've never heard of it before and there haven't been THAT many disscussions conserning VXA on this list. Not compered to AIT, DLT or DSS atleast. thanx, / jakob - -- -- To subscribe:[EMAIL PROTECTED] To unsubscribe: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Archives:http://list.working-dogs.com/lists/retro-talk/ Problems?: [EMAIL PROTECTED]
Re: Retrospect on Mac OS X (server)
Hi all, Apple has said that Mac OS X Server, as it exists it today, will be replaced by a new one based on their upcoming Mac OS X release. We are planning on supporting Mac OS X, and the new Mac OS X Server, with a new Carbonized release of Retrospect and the Retrospect Client currently in development. We have been participating in Apple's Developer Kitchens for Mac OS X, and we plan to ship at the same time as Mac OS X. Backup set format inconsistency
Backing up Windows NT Client using Travan drive (internal ATAPI backing up hard drive on NT Client machine only. Backs up at about 35 MB/min. Compares at about 8 MB/min. Checking error log, get message: Backup set format inconsistency. Would this indicate a tape problem, a drive problem, operator error (I am a Mac guy having to deal with NT Client) or what? When I first installed Retrospect, got 35MB/min on both backup and compare. Thanks, and after Matthew emails back and says to call tech support, I plan to do just that. I can't really comment on that with any certainty, Clay. I can tell you, however, that our completing the software is very much dependent on Apple finishing their I/O toolkit for Mac OS X. All well and good, but as pointed out already, the driver I/O kit from Apple is crucial. Apple doesn't have a very good record of this so far with OSX. Lots of bells and whistles and aquafication, not much support for anybody who is talking to a device. Go figure. We're in the same boat with our product, which includes a PCI board. Granted, there has been recent movement with the kit, but we were asking about this a long time ago to Apple and mostly the response was "yeah, yeah, whatever". You should definitely consider a competitor's product when a solution isn't available, but make sure you tell it to -Apple- ;-) rant over. We already have a whole mess of linux boxes just waiting for an elegant yet cost effective solution, and we're looking to build a render farm based on x86 linux... And personally, I've got the odd BSD boxen that could use it as well... FWIW, we have a developer subscription with Apple (and therefore DPs of OSX), and would be most interested in beta testing either client or server, if such assistance should be needed... ;-) Regards, Ed Hintz Geek Guy [EMAIL PROTECTED] -- -- To subscribe:[EMAIL PROTECTED] To unsubscribe: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Archives:http://list.working-dogs.com/lists/retro-talk/ Problems?: [EMAIL PROTECTED]
