Hi Ralf,

Can you update the German strings on Transifex? This will then
automatically make in into Jami.

If you could also translate the outstanding strings it would be
appreciated too.

What do you think?

Thank you

Hi there,
I just stumbled across RING and installed it right away on my Fire 8

shows the typo "Kontakanfragen" instead of "Kontaktanfragen".

I hope not to bother you too much with this . Cheers,

For information and download, see:

If you use the Gnome client, make sure both the client and the "dring"
process are not running when testing the AppImage. It uses the
"built-in" version of the Ring Daemon, just like the Android client
instead of the DBus service like the Gnome client. Note that using the
DBus service alongside the Gnome client is supported, but only when
compiling Ring-KDE or using distributions packages.

[Ring] File sharing

2018-04-20 Thread Óvári

Hello,

This relates to the file transfer feature in Ring advertised at:
https://ring.cx/en/news#file-sharing-now-available-in-ring

When transferring files:

1. Can multiple files be selected in the "Send File" dialog box, eg
using Ctrl+Click and Shift+Click?

2. Is there a Progress Bar showing the percentage/size transferred?

3. Does Ring show the "Expected time remaining" for file transfers?

4. Can file transfers be Paused and Resumed?

5. When there is a conversation with Multiple participants, how does
Ring display the progress for each participant?

6. Would it be helpful to list YouTube videos showing how other software
implements this feature?

7. Can file(s) be drag-and-dropped from the file browser/Desktop/etc.
onto the conversation to transfer file(s)?

Hopefully it can be fixed soon as Sébastien Blin is at FOSDEM 2018

[Ring] Latest versions of Ring on ring.cx website

2018-01-11 Thread Óvári

Hello,

Would you please indicate the latest versions of Ring on the ring.cx
website.

If not on the main page, perhaps on the 'Download/How to install Ring'
page, i.e.

https://ring.cx/en/download

The version for each platform could be above 'Install Ring..."

We have been advised that the current version of Ring we are using is
not current. However, the Terminal states:

ring is already the newest version (20171129.2.cf5bbff~dfsg1-1).
This would make it easier to see if the Ring version is up-to-date as it
seems that the command:

$ sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get install ring
does not always provide correct advise.

What do you think?

yes, you can save all your account(s) on linux by copying thoses directories :

./config/ring
./local/share/ring

you can also save the conversations and contacts recorded in the client :

./local/share/gnome-ring

you can do a tarball from your home directory :
tar cvf save-my-ring.tar.gz .config/ring/ .local/share/ring/

Good idea; I’ll split them.

2. Add "Screen sharing"

I don’t know how much this differs from video calling from
   a) technical point of view,
   b) users’ point of view.
I’ll think about this some more, and at least give it a mention.

3. Add "File sharing"

This seems reasonable. I’ll add it!

4. Add "Animated Emoji and GIFs"

Correct me if I’m wrong, but I think animated emoji would need to be a
special feature implemented in Ring. I don’t know of such a feature,
and in my personal opinion, it wouldn’t be useful. I’ll only add this
if the developers announce them and want special treatment for them.

GIF should not be treated as its own category. GIF is one of many image
formats; its category would be “images”, or “animated images”. I think
this could simply fall under “file sharing”, in any case.

The list of options will then be:

Text messaging

Audio calling

Video calling

Screen sharing

File sharing

Animated Emoji and GIFs

What do you think?

Your suggestions are very helpful and I appreciate them.

Suggestion:

RingID

This has no space so when written will not be separated over two lines

Have noticed that RIng developers write it like this.

For the hu (magyar Hungarian) translation:

RingID = Ring azonosító

Hope this helps

Some strings in the translation source use "RingId".

[Ring] Feature - Intercom

2017-08-01 Thread Óvári

Hello!

1. Ring can now successfully make an intercom call, i.e. a call
originating from and destination being the same username.

This successfully works between 2 Linux computers.

2. The intercom feature is a useful and unique feature not found in
other VoIP solutions and should be displayed at:

a) Where appropriate on the official Ring website, i.e. https://ring.cx/

b) https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ring_(software)#Features

2. Unfortunately, it does not currently work between an Android
smartphone and Linux computer. Hopefully this feature will work soon.

3. Keep up the great development work!

ask a real expert instead of an occasional user and contributor (this

You are half-right (or wrong, depends on your mood :) ). The
integration with third party contact managers (like GNOME Contacts on
GNU/Linux or Contacts app on MacOS) is currently managed by the client
layer on each platforms. The client "injects" contacts it gather from
external applications in its own contact list alongside the contacts
coming internally from the daemon.

The part on which you're wrong is that the loss of integration is not
related to JS itself but to the fact that an interface between a new
“ring-electron” client and contact managers is yet to be implemented.
It is not infeasible but requires making a wrapper in C/C++ for every
existing "contact-APIs" to expose those interfaces to JS code.

Another solution could be to integrate this support inside the
daemon, but also requires coding interfaces for each contact systems as
those interfaces are currently split between every clients.

Best regards.
