Re: [SlimDevices: SqueezeCenter] Web UI: Can I get classical albums to sort differently than other albums?
dolodobendan wrote: > But you could build menus with Custom Browse as described 'here' > (http://wiki.slimdevices.com/index.php/Setup_browse_menu_for_classical_music). Thanks for the replies. I have been working through that page and still not getting the result I would like. For simplicity, I only want a "Works by Composer" menu under Custom Browse with results in alpha order. If I understand how this works, it's not necessary to split my library into "Classical/Non-Classical" if I enable the "Limit upper levels to those with existing lower levels" switch. Only my classical files have the WORK tag. Getting that new menu to populate with data has been touch and go. It only worked once, and then I changed something and lost it. My template is below. If you see anything that I've done wrong, please let me know. Code: - - customscan_mixedtags - Works by Composer - 50 - 1 - COMPOSER - 0 - 0 - 0 - WORK - Works - 0 - 0 - 0 - 1 Apesbrain's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=738 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=109146 ___ Squeezecenter mailing list Squeezecenter@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/squeezecenter

It is possible to seek to any given sample in a FLAC stream without a seek table, but the delay can be unpredictable since the bitrate may vary widely within a stream. By adding seek points to a stream, this delay can be significantly reduced. Does not seem a likely cause of your issue. Admittedly I'm fishing a bit, but I can't help noticing that is a long file name. Re: [SlimDevices: SqueezeCenter] LMS does not see some flac files
But didn't OP say the problem remained even when the .dot was replaced? Let me try one more idea: is it possible the missing tracks are there but under a different artist/album? Have you loaded the files into a tag editor (e.g. Mp3tag) to see if there are any inconsistent tags stopping these files from sorting together? Then again, since they all came from Audacity's "Export Multiple" they should have inherited everything but TRACKNUMBER and TITLE tags from the original file. Can you explain in more detail that initial "splitting" step in Audacity? I've done this many times when recording vinyl and not had any issues. Another thing I'd do is load the "invisible" files into foobar2000 (or equivalent) and verify their integrity. I don't see any mention in your posts that these files work as expected in another player, although I assume you've checked that. All of this looks good. When you finished splitting all necessary tracks, did you then load the entire album in order into your tag editor and auto-number the tracks and generate new filenames? Might not seem necessary, but can't hurt. If facing this issue and nothing else working, I'd load all the tracks into foobar2000 and generate new, clean FLAC (default compression 5). Lastly, if still a problem I'd strip the files of all tags, rescan, and play via LMS "Music Folder" just to be sure all tracks play in the desired order. If so, I'd manually re-enter the tags and try a final rescan. Are you running a "Clear library and rescan everything" rescan? Or, change the folder name slightly if doing a "New/changed" rescan. I've seen LMS get confused overwriting updated tags when doing a "New/changed" rescan and end up with some tag fields having multiple values. Forgive me if you've done all this. I'm just going through the things I'd try if I had no idea how else to solve this problem! If LMS is not indexing some of your files, it has to be related to filename or tags. There isn't much else. OK, there is something else: in LMS "Settings" go to "Advanced" > "Performance" and set "Maximum Playlist Length" to 0. Also, look at the "Filter" options on the "My Music" tab and see if they make sense. You might post a screenshot of these two tabs so others can offer suggestions. [SlimDevices: SqueezeCenter] I inadvertently broke MP3 playback...
I downloaded a Springsteen concert in MP3 and it played gapless in foobar2000, but there were gaps playing back on my Touch. Ok, downloaded the show again in FLAC and converted to LAME 320 myself: same result. Did some further research and found that any MP3 files sampled at 48kHz no longer play on my Squeezeboxes. Upgraded \server\Bin\MSWin32-x86-multi-thread\ from LAME 3.99.5 to 3.100: no difference. Updated to current LMS 7.9.2: no difference. Then I remembered that some weeks ago I had changed "Audio Startup Time" (Settings > Player > Audio) from zero to 0.5 sec. because some first tracks when the Touch woke up my amplifier were getting the first few notes cut off. This might be the first MP3 live show I've played since then. Reset this value to zero and everything is well again. Lesson learned: if you adjust this setting, you very well might break gapless MP3 (and maybe 48k support, too). Yes, this sometimes happens depending on which tags you change. A way to avoid it is to re-save ALL of the files from that album in Mp3tag: open all files in folder, make your edits, then highlight all files and save. A "New/Changed" rescan will then re-index them all and you shouldn't get two albums. Interesting, all our "dirty little secrets" are coming out. I never use the "don't change timestamps" option in Mp3tag because my backup software, FreeFileSync, would then not detect the file had changed. If I don't want something showing up in "New Music", after editing I set the timestamps on those files back a few months using Attribute Changer. After taking the Playlists folder out, did you do a "Clear library" rescan? You might try stopping the LMS service and emptying its cache. OP, if the problem returns post back with your wireless router brand and model. Also, the "Server IP Address" from the top of the LMS "Settings" > "Information" tab. Someone will help you change the wireless channel. I'd suggest that you relocate your server PC so that you can permanently WIRE it to your router. All around, it will be more stable. Ok, if this works for you and you have a lot of mid/low-bitrate MP3 there is in fact a way to do it without transcoding. You have to disable native hardware MP3 playback and convert all MP3 to FLAC on the server. However, for 320kbps MP3 transcoding has very little audible effect. I assume you've done a factory reset on the Touch? See p.9: https://www.logitech.com/assets/32039/squeezeboxtouch-qsg.pdf Were you using the same ASUS router with your old configuration? If it's also new, it may have contemporary features that are interfering with its legacy (802.11 b/g) support. The Touch and Radio are (g) devices. You might check the router's compatibility mode and also try disabling the 5G radio. You might also try a factory reset on the router, update to latest firmware, and disable any proprietary functionality, e.g. AiRadar, AiCloud, AiProtection. If wired is not a convenient option, you might try Powerline adapters but for many they seem to bring their own set of issues. Not sure why deleting your Squeezebox folder and reinstalling would solve your problem, but glad it did. BTW, if you really want to nuke your Squeezebox installation, you also have to delete the hidden folder located here: C:\PROGRAMDATA\SQUEEZEBOX\ => Note that this is a last resort as it also removes all of your settings. I hope it sticks, but I have a feeling your original issue was not really solved. Almost always such symptoms are related to network issues. Re: [SlimDevices: SqueezeCenter] Help with Wav Files
My guess is that whatever program you used to create the WAV files has written the tags in a format that LMS does not completely understand. This is not uncommon for WAV files as there is no real standard for WAV tags. LMS will read "RIFF" tags written into WAV files. You should be able to fix this using Mp3tag (https://www.mp3tag.de/en/). Open a folder of your WAV files into Mp3tag, verify tags, and save the files. This should write the aforementioned tag format. Run a "clear and rescan" library rebuild in LMS to confirm. If it works, do the same with your remaining WAV files. Another option is to convert the WAV files to FLAC or ALAC both of which have native tag support readable by LMS. [SlimDevices: SqueezeCenter] LMS has begun "chirping" at me
First thing in the morning, or when my Touch has been unused for a while, the first thing I play is preceded by a short "chirp" of uncorrelated music. At least that's what I think I hear: more like a split second of music vs. some kind of random noise. Happens on both local file playback and internet radio. I've experimented with "Power On Resume" options and various values of "Audio Startup Time" with no improvement. It's very difficult to test because it's intermittent. What I can say for sure is that this has not always happened. I tried going from LMS 8.0.1 back to LMS 7.9.4 and it made no difference. (I might try 8.1.) Is there something in logging that I can enable to try to catch some evidence of this? Thanks. The default LMS configuration sends FLAC and MP3 (and a few other codecs) to players natively. Re: [SlimDevices: SqueezeCenter] Logitech Media Server 8.1.1 released!
I've noticed on the 8.1+ versions of LMS that I no longer get the message at the bottom of the default UI when "Plugins have updated. Restart required." I only see this notice if I go to the "Settings" > "Plugins" page which means I often am unaware. This on latest version of Chrome/Win 10. Thanks. Re: [SlimDevices: SqueezeCenter] Streaming from Laptop
Just set your sleep timeout to some duration that is longer than you'll ever listen at one sitting. Or, leave your laptop on and set the screen to time off if it bothers you. Energy cost will be about $4.50/month. Or as said above, abandon the laptop and run LMS on a Raspberry Pi 4 which will cost about $0.45/month. Re: [SlimDevices: SqueezeCenter] How do I install LMS so it does NOT automatically scan my music files?
You tell LMS what folders to scan on the main "Settings" page or in the LMS Control Panel. Re: [SlimDevices: SqueezeCenter] How do I install LMS so it does NOT automatically scan my music files?
Just cancel the scan. Set the target folders. Then start a "Clear library" rescan. If your music is in many disparate folders you can point LMS to a new folder containing shortcuts to the individual music folders. LMS will follow the shortcuts. 7.9 although a beta is very stable; it has been so for many months. It contains a number of useful new features including full-text search, a "Random Albums" button, and new Custom Browse modes (e.g. by Composer or by Conductor). Duet will work fine with it. [SlimDevices: SqueezeCenter] Dropping signal on Internet radio / music services
Starting this morning I can't go more than a few minutes before losing connection. Happens on radio stations and Pandora. Sometimes it reconnects after a few seconds, sometimes not. I've restarted my server, router, switch to no avail. Updated to latest LMS nightly. This is a wired player. Local music seems ok. My wife was also having issues with her work VPN dropping off. Suggestions are welcome.
