[SlimDevices: SqueezeCenter] LMS on Apple M1 or M2?

2023-01-01 Thread Eric Seaberg

I can't find it anywhere doing a search, but am wondering if LMS is
happy on an M1 yet? I'm having issues with my 10-year old Mac MINI i7
and am considering the upgrade. Thanks...

You wouldn't want volume controlling the digital out... at least it
should ALWAYS be at full volume. As you change the volume digitally
it's actually truncating bits, so if you're playing 24bit files, as you
turn down the quality gets worse and worse. Keep it at FULL VOLUME and
ONLY turn the volume down on your D/A converter AFTER it converts back
to analogue.

Re: [SlimDevices: SqueezeCenter] Server has lost ALL of my music!!

2022-12-10 Thread Eric Seaberg

Michael, for some reason my permissions have totally been jacked up and
I don't know how. File Sharing is having major problems and, as I've
mentioned previously, System Prefs seems to hang all the time.
Fortunately I have a TimeMachine backup I'm restoring from Nov 1 when I
KNOW everything was working. As soon as that's done I'll try updating
LMS to get 8.3.1 and report back.

Thanks again for all of the help!

Not network drives... I have almost 50TB of storage all attached via
USB3. The drives always spin up before the server does. It is randomly
scanning and sometimes finds all the music, but most of the time
doesn't. I'm out of time today but will look at it again later. At
least all of the music is there as well as a complete backup.

Re: [SlimDevices: SqueezeCenter] Scan taking hours instead of minutes on recent nightlies

2020-10-03 Thread Eric Seaberg

Michael, I'm wondering if something changed in 7.9.3 as well? After all
the issues I went through with Catalina on Mac MINI, I reverted back to
High Sierra from a TimeMachine backup, but installed 7.9.3 and did a
complete rescan. NO iTUNES, just my audio drives. There's a little
over 40,000 songs and it took almost 2.5 hours to complete the scan.
When I've done it before, a new rescan would take 5-10 minutes at the
most.

I most likely had a 'nightly' in the TimeMachine restore but wouldn't
know which one. TimeMachine date was Sept 9, and I'm usually pretty
good about keeping up with the nightlies if that gives you an idea.

Thanks again for all of the help. I'm stable again and will avoid
upgrading the OS for a while.

Nope! Starting over with a TimeMachine restore from beginning of
September. Once that's done I'll load LMS 7.9.3 and leave it there.

Not sure what's going on... it WAS OK, and then I decided to backup my
music drive, which I do on a regular basis. Using Retrospect I decided
to do a fresh backup/confirmation which took about 36-hours to complete.
This morning I started up LMS and it deleted the library database, just
like nothing had been done with FDA.

That's when I decided to pass and restore from TimeMachine.

Thanks for the help, Michael, but it's not working for me.

When the Mac boots you can hold down Command-R to restore the OS via the
web from Apple. Since nothing is on DVD/CD any longer, this is how you
do a clean install. Before running the installer, I ran DiskUtility and
reinitialized the OS partition of my SSD. It was wiped clean then OS
10.12 was installed. Once that was done, I did a system update to OS
10.12.6, the most recent.

I always have Activity Monitor running on my LMS server to show what is
happening within the system at any time. Only one instance of Perl is
shown running.

I'm only running a few 3rd party, but will pull them all and try again.

I've had this problem for several years, starting proll with LMS 7.5 or
earlier. Again, I did a totally clean OS install and a clean LMS
install, adding back some 3rd party plugins.

Thanks for the help, Michael. I will attach a screen capture of the
plugins I'm using, as well as a recent log.

I did a 'restore' new install of 10.12 then it updated to 10.12.6 . I
have received errors of two LMS running, which is impossible as only one
was installed. Deleted ALL prefs twice to make sure old stuff was wiped
out. Perl v5.18. I'm wondering if I should update to a newer version,
but no one else seems to be complaining about this issue.

Another odd thing, if I go to the LMS Pref Pane and try to STOP the
server, it doesn't stop, but I think it's always been this way.

I'll PM Michael, too. For now everything seems to be working, except
I'm still getting MP3 encode errors and I'm not going to worry about it.
Will see what Michael says.

Here's my latest logfile after going through everything else.

Thanks again for the help. This is just so bizarre... and it seems LAME
still isn't encoding properly. I have added the executable file into
the preference file package just like FLAC, SOX, etc. are installed with
the LMS installer. Everything says it's installed properly, but I still
have the issue. At this point, that's the least of my worries... just
trying to get back to a working system everywhere else.

This is total BS!! I have NEVER had problems like this before... clean

Have 'cleaned' all files on the server and started over multiple

was implemented later than LMS 7.9.0.

OK guys, I TOTALLY rebuilt my system from scratch, and now I'm having a
problem where upon rebooting the system my SqueezeNetwork settings are
lost or changed, lots of errors in the log (prolly from SqueezeNetwork
not logging in) and a bunch of other stuff. I decided to clean install
the 'official' LMS 7.9, but it's totally disastrous.

I am running Mac OS 10.12.6, could that be a problem?

Going through another "delete prefs" option and will send logs once it
reboots. I will do a permissions repair, first.

Thanks again

Right, there is an SB3 at my office and I also access using iPeng on my

Re: [SlimDevices: SqueezeCenter] LMS no longer converting 24-bit files to MP3

2017-08-07 Thread Eric Seaberg

I'll look again. I don't think the problem is resampling as I've always
been able to play 48k files on other devices. Again the odd thing is
that iPeng on my iPhone plays everything fine. I did also try a xilix
update on the Transporter and nothing changed. This is extremely odd as
it has worked.

There's really no reason to do transcoding with the exception of
streaming to an SB3 at my office. I have plenty of bandwidth on both
ends to play native FLAC files and may just have to leave it there.

Thanks for the replies. As I get more time this week/weekend I'll try
it again and submit more content from the log. One other thing I just
thought of, I did an OS update about a week ago to OS 10.12.6 which
could've broken some pipes. Not sure how I could revert except to
restore from an older backup set. May try that as well.

Thanks again.

Re: [SlimDevices: SqueezeCenter] LMS no longer converting 24-bit files to MP3

2017-08-06 Thread Eric Seaberg

Odd that it's happening on both SB3, Duet and Transporter if I force
transcode, but if I force MP3 transcoding to my iPhone using iPeng to
playback, it works fine. If I play a 16-bit file, everything is OK.

Error is:

Any ideas? FLAC is installed properly. Haven't had this problem
before.

[SlimDevices: SqueezeCenter] LMS no longer converting 24-bit files to MP3

2017-08-05 Thread Eric Seaberg

I just started having a problem a few days ago... probably after trying
to install a newer version os SOX... but LMS will no longer transcode
any 24-bit FLAC files to MP3 to stream to my office SB3. I've never had
this problem before and have tried every solution to solve it, without
luck. At this point, I'm reverting to a TimeMachine backup from a week
ago to see if that solve the issue.

Anyone else have an option for me?

Running latest nightly on Mac MINI 2.6GHz i7, 16GB RAM, OS 10.12.6

Thanks

Transporter WILL play 5.1 FLAC... i've been doing it for 10-years to my
surround receiver.

To the OP, if you need to convert to FLAC on your Mac, there's a FREE
transcoder called XLD https://sourceforge.net/projects/xld/. dBpoweramp
is also avail for the Mac now and it's AWESOME!!!

Good luck

REALLY?! I just played 192K/24bit on my Transporter yesterday to see if
it would work. Did it downsample to 96K?

2015-12-16 Thread Eric Seaberg

Yeah, everything I've been running for a while still runs and I'm not
getting any errors that they're out of date.

Thanks for the reply, Michael. Appreciate all your work on this

I've been seeing this for a long time, probably going back to some
version of 7.7.x, even, but I can't tell that anything isn't working.

Just wanted to ask...
