Google is your friend for port opening

I know with :9000 it sometimes switches to 9001 and upwards, if already
occupied

Linux Mint has a 32 bit distro

' (https://linuxmint.com/edition.php?id=297)

and headless is possible on a basic Debian install ( a bit more work)

One has to build the binaries for LMS on 32 bit

and there is also

https://www.raspberrypi.com/software/raspberry-pi-desktop/

again, a 32 bit install.

I have an old shuttle with an Intel Atom that runs Linux Mint 64 bit
fine, if a little slowly :)

Re: [SlimDevices: SqueezeCenter] Most recent MacOS update broke LMS?

2022-11-18 Thread Man in a van

This morning I fired up a Late 2012 Mac Mini running Mojave v10.14.6

I connected a Topping DX3Pro Dac (using headphone output) and used
Audio MIDI to set it for use as Sound Output.

I plugged in a usb stick (Fat32 format) with a few albums to use instead
of a HDD.

I opened Safari and downloaded the latest Mac OSX installer.

http://downloads.slimdevices.com/nightly/?ver=8.3

I used the default installer to install the package and accepted all
screen prompt requests for access.

I used the Mac Systems Preferences pane (LMS Server was already running)
to navigate to the usb stick.

I then opened the default LMS gui, went to Basic Settings and scanned
the usb disk into the Library.

Next stop was Settings >> Plugins >> tick Update plugins automatcally
>> Apply

When the screen returned I ticked the box for Local Player, waited a
minute and refreshed the screen.

I did NOT go to the ADVANCED tab

I then returned to the LMS Home Page and selected Squeezelite from the
dropdown, selected an Album and hit Play.

Music !!!

I rebooted the Mac whilst it was playing (the setting in the Preference
pane STATUS window was "Automatcally start server when system boots)

Reopen windows when logging back in was ticked for the Restart (and I'm
set to login automatically in Users & Groups)

The windows reopend but the LMS restart failed ( thiis has been an
unresolved problem for at least a couple of years)

I clicked Start Server in the Status tab and all was well.

I changed to "Automatically start server at login" This worked, but it
does take a while and I had to refresh the LMS gui

Hope this helps someone on the old 32bit OS

Re: [SlimDevices: SqueezeCenter] Most recent MacOS update broke LMS?

2022-11-17 Thread Man in a van

Back in September of this year I trialled LMS and the Local Player
Plugin on my old iMac running Catalina.

I was attempting to help someone on another forum with a similar
install.

I managed to get things working, (I did the perl and bash permissions
thing) but it did not feel "just right".

Tonight I installed LogitechMediaServer-8.3.1-1668720899.pkg over the
top of the previous version. I accepted all permission requests.

Updated the Plugins, and, using the System Preferences Pane window,
navigated to an external usb 3 hub and loaded a small library of flac
files.

Playback was without any problem through the iMac's internal speakers.

Tomorrow I'll try the Toslink output and maybe the USB.

Seems like a winner

Congrats and thanks to the folk responsible :)

This would be me:

Take a screen shot of all Favourites, My Apps and any Podcast urls that
are installed on the Win 7 Partition.

Take a screenshot of all Plugins and any Additional Repositories
installed on the Win 7 Partition.

E-mail the screenshots to myself

On the new Windows 10 Partition Install the required version of LMS
(right click and run as Admin).

Go to the e-mails and copy the required info a step at a time onto the
new LMS with a few restarts in between processes.

Once finished prevent the LMS on the Win 7 partition from starting at
boot.

But that's just me

Can one have a Windows 32 bit partition and a Windows 64 bit partition
on the same Hard Disk ?

Just askin' :)

If you are running an old Raspberry pi OS I would suggest you get a new
sd card and burn the new image to that.

Keep your old card until you have configured eveything to your liking
and then;

make a back up of your new card

download the SD Formatter Tool to your computer and do an "overwrite
format" of the old card

all ther best

How about; make a clean install of LMS on either a clean SD card or
another computer.

If a SD card, install only LMS, nothing else.

When you log into this LMS for the first time, fill in your
mysqueezebox.com credentials on the first page, skip everything else.

2022-10-26 Thread Man in a van

@Marsupial

If you are talking LMS configuration, my advice is, DON'T!

It's likely corrupted, and, frankly not worth taking that chance.

Just install the required Plugins and reconfigure as you use the LMS.

When you have it all sorted and working to your satisfaction, make a
back-up, infact, make a back-up now of your base image.

If you have a raspberry pi with the Raspberry PI Desktop OS you can use
the Image Copy facility to make a copy of the sd card.

If say, your sd card is 32 gb but you are only using 6 gb then the
Imager tool should copy it to a 8gb sd card

There is also a tool on github call PiShrink which works on RPI OS and
Linux (Mint.in my experience)

A sd card with a RPIOS Desktop image is a handy thing.

Which image is on the card ? Raspbian is really old I would not bother
with the following if you have Raspbian

You can, if you wish, try this on the cloned sd card, normal t apply

open a terminal

Code:

sudo apt remove logitechmediaserver -y

sudo apt autoremove -y && sudo apt autoclean -y && sudo reboot

This should remove LMS but leave the preferences insitu

When it comes back up

Code:

sudo apt update
  sudo apt full-upgrade -y
  sudo apt install -y lame
  wget -O logitechmediaserver_arm.deb $(wget -q -O -
"https://www.mysqueezebox.com/update/?version=8.3.0=1=1=debarm;)
  sudo apt install -y ./logitechmediaserver_arm.deb

2022-10-24 Thread Man in a van

I assume this is a headles install, Lms won't work on 32 bit unless you
build the binaries, but that is possible.

I suggest you start again

Do not use root but make a new user and install as new user

I did this earlier in the year but I have the faint memory that the base
install is a little lacking in the required packages

So I offer this for your consideration:

sudo apt update

wget -O logitechmediaserver_i386.deb $(wget -q -O -
"https://www.mysqueezebox.com/update/?version=8.2.1=1=1=debi386;)

sudo apt install -y ./logitechmediaserver_i386.deb

that should install LMS

There are a few threads on building the binaries, but for reference you
need

so if you add

Code:

That should be enough. There may be better syntax like using systemctl

I have just tested it and it works

You may need to find out how long it takes the NAS to start up

Hope this helps

Yes. then follow the instructions, I use hw:CARD=Control,DEV=0

The ones in the the drop down are mostly what are called Hats

https://www.raspberrypi.com/news/introducing-raspberry-pi-hats/

which require a specific code (overlay) to be implemented in the

Which Debian OS is that you are running ?

As Jim says, you can back up the entire card (always a good thing to
do,anyway:))

If you are using a recent Raspberry PI Desktop OS then that has an image
copier facility.

I can't help with DD but Windows has

https://win32diskimager.download/

and Mac OS

It's a tad anal I know :o, but peace of mind is important :), and I only

"network waiting" :-

Or try these;

A hard reset, with no player being used, pull the power plug of the LMS
raspberry pi at the wall socket, wait a minute, and then power on.

Check that the LMS still has the same IP Address

Wipe the SD card, download a fresh image of pCP and install a new LMS,
reconfigure the server.

This may change the IP Address

Innuos like to remote in and correct any errors.

I don't know what support they offer for your device.

As suggested by Micheal, perhaps best is to contact the company by email

Paul, if you feel that your realy need a faster (slightly) rpi thyen the
3b+ from kydstypike is the one.

LMS will run on your othe rpi, just a bit slower. I would still like the
model # please.

It's also possible to install LMS on an O2 joggler (external usb stick
is best for this).

With Raspberry Pi OS Bullseye Desktop

'I use the raspberry pi imager to load the OS'

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ntaXWS8Lk34

I do the update and full upgrade

SSH in and install LMS eg:

Code:

wget
https://downloads.slimdevices.com/nightly/8.2/lms/050fd23add1e4b6f5550cba00e1678af316c2f6c/logitechmediaserver_8.2.1~1641537226_arm.deb

then

Code:

sudo apt install ./logitechmediaserve...

This pulls in all the binaries

I add
Code:

sudo apt install lame

when all is complete

sudo reboot

and off you go

Two years old, likely the perl is outdate for a newer install, not
withstanding any changes from Buster to Bullseye, maybe something got
lost in the move :)

I would get a spare sd card and make a fresh install of the Bullseye OS,
I'm presuming the Desktop.

Update everything and then do the samba install

If that that works, then add LMS and fill in your bits and pieces, you
should be able to mount your old sd card and transferr any files you

HI Paul

first off, I'm a numpty at this , but I have an LMS instance on an old
Shuttle which was sold as 32 bit Windows only install.

I could not install LMS because of the Perl version and I am not bright
enough to build the correct version:(

Fortunately the processor supports 64 bit so I was able to install Linux
MInt 64 bit and run LMS and Squeezelite

Maybe your problem is similar ?

when installing LMS I did

sudo apt update

sudo apt upgrade

sudo apt ./install logitechmediaserver_8.2.0. (which pulls in
all the bits and pieces)

I hope this is useful, if not, just ignore me :p

Which raspberry pi oS ? and does this connect to the internet ?

It might just be a network issue.

A long way round is to shut down everything. As in everything that goes
through the router.

Return the router to factory default (not restart)

When the router is back up and your computer connects to the internet,
power up the raspberry pi with LMS, check that it connects to the web,
give it a reserved IP Address in the router.

Then power on the player rpi

Proceed through your bits and pieces, connecting one at at time...

It might pay to wait for another suggestion from somebody who knows
about this stuff :rolleyes::p:):)

I'm sorry, but I can not help anymore with this. :(

The solution evades me, and I have just spent a lot of time trying to
find one.

I set up a 2012 Mac mine with Mojave on an external SSD, the internal
disk I reformaatted and installed some music files.

This is the nearest I can get to replicate your set up

No matter what combination I tried I could not connect via pCP

I tried with Windows 10 Pro desktop without success (the failure message
blamed either my user name or password)

On the Windows computer I could connect to the Mac mini via SSH and
WinSCP using the same user name and password the was rejected by windows
explorer.

I could also connect from a rpi 4b running the Bullseye Desktop.

Posted in the hope that it helps :):)

I have set up the following this morning :) just for fun (and learning)

This is pCP v 8.1.0 on a rpi4b with LMS 8.2.1 stable

pCP is configured in Beta mode and *Install and Enable additional File
Systems* performed on the LMS tab

Allow file sharing on the Mac, this is an iMac running El Capitan

On pCP LMS Tab: *Setup Network Disk Mount*

36415

*SHARE NAME* is APPLE HDD HTS541010A9E662 Media

and *OPTIONS* has vers=1.0 added

Then one can either navigate to the required folder

36416

expanding the tree as required

or install the iTunes plugin from Inactive Plugins and use that (I used
the *Browse* feature to navigate the tree)

36417

If you use the latter, when you click "Apply" LMS will start to scan the
folders

Re: [SlimDevices: SqueezeCenter] LMS upgrade help please

2021-12-10 Thread Man in a van

*@muggo

Hi Paul

I found my Odroid u3 but that was running Lubunto 14.4 which had a
Max2play image installed on it. I was able to upgrade the LMS to Version
8.2.0

The Perl version was 18.2 which would likely present problems with some
plugins

I can't find the eMMC reader / write module so I can not try the (Ubuntu
Mate) image offered by Max2play.

A replacement reader cost just under £4, but there are "extras". I'm
not paying for something I will only use once.

36399

I suggest two option:

Buy a 16gb micro SD card (and maybe a reader) and install this image

https://www.max2play.com/en/download/22173/

That should allow some use (I don't know for how long)

If it does't work, then go with the following

(or)

Buy a raspberrypi (from an "Approved Reseller", I use The Pi Hut).

You will also need an "official" power supply, SD card and reader and
any other cables you might want.

This will allow the installation and maintenance of LMS for a long time

As you allready have piCoreplayer installed on a raspberry pi, update to
the latest image and install LMS alongside the player. Old rpi will run
both player and server, the configuration is slower, but that's about
all, really.

Plenty of help available from myself, and, no doubt, others here

Hey Paul, that sounds like one of the very first Odroids, I had one
(they had to solder a wire on the back of the board to make it work
properly).

Mine had an EMMC reader.

I can't remember the OS, I think it was a sort of Ubuntu

I also bought a C1 and ran the Max2play OS on that. I bought that from
the UK

https://www.odroid.co.uk/index.php?route=common/home

IIRC Triode did some Arch-Linux images that were really neat.

I'll see if I can find my one, should only take a day or so.

If you need any help setting up a pi i can pop down to yours if you wish
(I'm triple jabbed and wearing a mask really improves my looks; gives me
a face made for radio :p)

Or I can knock up an image for you to download and help you with the
install over the 'phone :)

I think the old Odroids might be past it now, But you could start by
making a back up image of the card you are now using

Firmware 7.7.3 is asscociated with mysqueezebox dot com or very old
versions of LMS

You can install EDO on this version;

Settings > Advanced > Applet Installer > deselect Recommended Applets
Only

EDO should then be available from Applet Installer

[ If you return to Applet Installer, there is an option to Reinstall
after Firmware Update. I seem to remember that EDO re-installs
regardless :) ]

If you then install a local LMS v 8. x.x (above 7.9.3 or 9.4 I think is
necessary) on a computer and on the Touch go to

Settings > Advanced > Software Update

There will be the option to upgrade to 7.8.0 r16754

I think you may / will need a local LMS in anycase (I'm not sure about

I do however have a LMS and Squeezelite running in LInux Mint on an old

I would suggest that you:

either update squeezelite in the Local Player

or

remove Local Player (and its bits and bobs) and install plain ol'

You can then update the squeezelite to a recent version of Ralphy's

Well not necessarily :)

All input is useful, as it often joggs the old memory :)

I try (and fail miserably most times) to stay away from the periphery
and answer only to the question posed by the poster.

In this case, I know the poster a little, and so ignored the obvious
(that was bought up by others on the original (other) forum thread).

What I should have done, was post a more detailed explanation at the
start

Sorry that I did not give a more expansive thread opener, I was a bit
pushed for time.

The person uses the raspberry pi Buster Desktop OS with LMS v 8.2.1

pCP was rejected, Network wait is enabled, and as stated in the opening
post, it is desired to power down the pi in between usage.

I have mirrored the set-up using a rpi3B+ instead of a rpi4b.

Both a cronjob, and an autostart command, utilising a 25 sec sleep,
restart the LMS successfully.

I have thought about making a restart.service file but the cronjob seems
to work OK for him at the moment

I just though I would ask here, incase there is an alternative

[SlimDevices: SqueezeCenter] Raspberry Pi & LMS - way to postpone start-up?

The pi syncs its time at start up.

The problem can be solved by using a restart LMS bash script at boot
(either by cronjob or autostart).

The Touch can be restarted by a short press of the reset button on the
back (not in favour).

I have found a script, here on the forum, which claims to run on the pi
and restart the Touch when the pi boots. This is not tested yet, as he
is happy with a cronjob (who wouldn't be? :):p)

Do the panel think there is any other way to solve the problem

Thanks

What is your playback system?

OS on which LMS is installed (edit: I'm guessing pcp, so squeezelite )

Audio device for playback

Squeezelite or Overlay for playback of the audio device

Thanks

I think it depends on the user case :)

I have only a small libraray and 500MB is plenty for me.

I often use 300MB, do all the config, check everything works and then
make a back up image whilst the file size is small :)

In this scenario, all that is needed is to expand the file system and
then just click on "Install LMS"

If the fs is too small LMS is not downloaded.

I don't understand the problems you are having.

This morning I downloaded pCP v8.0.0 32 bit and burnt it to a 4gb sd
micro card.

Installed a few extensions, expanded the files system to 300MB and
installed LMS v 8.2.0

Without any problems.
