Well tags like 'mood' or 'ranking by last.fm' etc. enhance my music
experience as they are excellent for making playlists. 'Lyrics' embedded
is also quite beautiful. But well everybody to his or her liking.

Well it took hours but I did it.

Okay what I did - with excellent help from the people at this forum -
was that I removed all ID 3.1 tags after I wrote all information
whatsoever into the ID 3.2 tags. I did this in mp3tag and had my
collection filtered by file type. In addition I had removed all those
double year/date tags which my files had. I think they were created
automatically by MediaMonkey - there is a thread in this forum on this
issue. I might have also removed the double Album artist - I had Album
Artist and Albumartist - but I can't find any files to confirm this in
one way or another. Mp3tag has a command 'remove double tags'.
I destroyed some compilations by removing the compilation tag and the
various artist tag. This was primarily with incomplete compilations from
which I had only part of the songs. Obviously LMS also cares for the
file path when compiling, so I had to separate folders or bring files
together according to whether I wanted them 'compiled' or not. For this
I used MusicBee and its excellent function 'Move files to organised
folder'.
I have some files where I accidentally deleted the tags before rewriting
them and the information has to be restored from backup. Well.
I think that LMS has not rescanned my collection properly although
trying to force it to do so. Obviously you have to trigger the command
more often. Maybe its cause I'm on 7.9.1 by Pinkdot. I have all my
playlists in my music folder (in an extra folder) and do not have any
problems with it.
So long and thank you!

I usually find mp3tag to be pretty fast, but then again I'm rarely
loading up more than a few albums at a time for editing. I was curious,
so I just loaded up my compete collection on mp3tag (about 96,000
tracks, FLAC, some mp3, some m4a). This took approximately 33 minutes.
This is an i7 windows machine and files are on an eSata drive (not SSD)
attached to the windows machine.

I can't speak to OGG files, as I don't have any. With regard to
compilations in general, I just looked and I have 445 compilation CDs.
All show up properly in LMS and in foobar2000.

You might consider converting the .ogg files to a different format and
see if that helps with your problem.

You do use way more tag fields than I do. I believe in keeping things
simple but you must have your reasons for the number of fields you use.

I don't quite see it this way. 99% of problematic files are .ogg-files,
pointing to flaws of LMS in dealing with this filetype. These files
display perfectly fine in MusicBee or MediaMonkey, there's no problem
whatsoever. In addition, I have zero problems with straightforward

It seems to me that LMS does not completely clear the library even if
you do a full rescan and that many double or triple entries in LMS stem
from the fact that the old compilations aren't deleted while they are
added anew in their modified version. Also I find it hard to come up
with a connection between messy tags and double entries in the library.

you perceived my connection as messy because these are the files I have
problems with. Its mostly files I collected several years ago and left
to rest in a hidden chamber on my hard disk.

However, I think its a very good idea to remove these ID3v1 tags. As of
now, I have organised compilations as AlbumArtist=Various because it
works with the players I use so I don't think I'll do away with it. But
I have gotten rid of a lot of compilations which I did not have in full.
Compilations are only precious, I thought, if you perceive them as
compilations and wish to listen to them in total (which is not the case
with, say, '1999 Indie Top Twenty' from which you ripped 12 songs only
anyway). I have gotten rid of them by writing the artist into the album
artist.

I apply the same settings but keep having the following problems:
Different folders but the same year make LMS sort the Compilation albums
of both .ogg and .mp3-files to different compilations to the effect that
you have sth like 10 compilations of the same name, i.e. one for each
artist. Despite a compilation tag of 1.
In addition artists like Wrongkong do not show up under artists at all
but only when searching for them in detail. They also show up under the
compilation if you bother to find out which of those ten it actually is.

2264222643
Only artists that have albums to their own name are found by the search
it seems.

Different years also make LMS to sort the Compilation albums of
.ogg-files to different compilations.

I actually think I might give up on the compilation tag for compilations
that are not complete. I'd rather have an artist as a fake album artist.
This seems to do more of what I want.

I don't have any OGG files, but as far as I know that doesn't change
anything. I think if the album name is exactly the same, the ALBUM
ARTIST is either blank or exactly the same, and the Compilation tag is
set to 1, the entire album should show as a single compilation album,
even if tracks in different directories. But I'm not 100% sure as I
don't have any albums that are spread across directories. But you can
test this.

As dasmueller notes, you should do a "clear and rescan" in LMS after you
change the tags so that LMS picks up all these changes. "Check for new
and changed" doesn't always pick up tag changes.

In addition I thought that a value of 1 in "compilation" might make the

This will popup a list of columns you can tick. "compilations" might
already be there. If so, tick it. If not, click "NEW" then for name,
call it Compilation and for both value and field put the following:
%compilation%

leave sort by blank, and do not tick "numeric"

Now you have a column that shows the value of compilation. Obviously, in
your case it should be blank. But you want to add the value of "1"
(without the "") to the tracks that are part of a compilation. Note
that you only want the COMPILATION tag to exist for the tracks where you
have assigned a "1". Otherwise the tag shouldn't exist (that is, do NOT
have compilation tag with a value of "0").

Then go to TOOLS > OPTIONS > Tag Panel. Enter Compilations as one of
the items (do do this, click on the little page/star icon, then enter
COMPILATION as NAME and FIELD. In view, make sure you tick "tag panel"
so you see it.

Then load up all your files in mp3tag and somehow limit it to the tracks
that are part of compilation (you can you filter on ARTIST or ALBUM
ARTIST = various, our sort on the ARTIST column, etc.

Then select all these files you want to add compilation to, and in the
compilation value on your tag panel to the left of screen, enter a value
of 1, then save. Now all these files have a tag called COMPILATION with
a value of 1.

Let me know if you have questions.

Alright so it's one of the tags I have never heard about up to now. How
do I make it display in MP3Tag or MusicBee? I can't go about every file
individually. Oh dear...

It is a standard tag: COMPILATION
(as noted above it is not mandatory. I use it for all my compilations
CDs and have no grouping issues in lms.

Is compilation tag something to be found within lms or is it some

2017-04-30 Thread w3wilkes

I use "Various" in the "Album Artist" tag, do not use the Compilation
tag. The "Album Title" is the same and I use the My Music settings in
this screen snip. My Compilation albums sort together just

Re: [SlimDevices: SqueezeCenter] Compilation Album grouping problem

2017-04-30 Thread dasmueller

How do you name the compilation albums ? I have several albums that have
the Artist tag as various and have no problem w them. I also have a
folder called Z-Oldies where I have numerous compilations. There the
"Artist" is Oldies, the Albums Oldies1,2 etc. In that case I have the
performers name in the Title field.
