Re: Updated SeaMonkey to 2.53.5.1 - Now I CAN'T RENAME EMAIL FOLDERS

2020-12-14 Thread user
OK, it appears the problem is with the QuickFolders add-on. QuickFolders isn't compatible with
the new version of Seamonkey.
I noticed it was missing after the update, then found that an earlier version of QuickFolders
DOES function with the new SeaMonkey - except, it somehow interferes with renaming folders
within SeaMonkey mail.

I disabled that, and found I could then rename my eMail folders...
BUT - I find QuickFolders VERY useful, so unless I find some other problem with the
"incompatible" add-on, I will go ahead and use it, and rename mail folders via the PROPERTIES
dialog. Saler Paul

Electrolysis with Seamonkey

2020-11-22 Thread user

Hello

Is it possible to activate Electrolysis (e10s) with Seamonkey ?

I've played with some parameters and got 2 processes, but no way to get
more.

browser.tabs.remote.autostart
dom.ipc.processCount
browser.preferences.defaultPerformanceSettings.enabled

Multiple processes are not blocked by an add-on, the result is the same
with a new and empty profile.

Re: "Updating everyone…" --SeaMonkey Project Blog on 12/19/2018...

2018-12-22 Thread user
First of all, as a Seamonkey user from day one I have to say a big
thanks to all the the people involved in keeping this project alive and
providing such a fantastic web suite for so many years! Your work is
really appreciated and I think most users do fully understand how much
of your time and effort is needed to get this done.

That being said: after reading the blog update I'm not very optimistic
about the options the seamonkey project has because in my optinion
Seamonkey will have to go for Quantum in order to keep up with the web
standards and new technology. Without an competitive rendering engine it
will not have any future. And if this means that classic extensions will
no longer be supported or loved features will have to be dropped then it
should be done. Because without an up to date engine Seamonkey will not
be able to appeal to new users and long time users will slowly move on
as well. I.e. in my optinion Seamonkey would not have a future without
an up-to-date engine.

Would it maybe be possible to build some XUL layer on top of Quantum? I
mean a way to still provide the needed interfaces for XUL, but in the
end render everything using the new engine?

In any case, I think it would be better to spend effort into migration
to something future oriented, even if it means to lose loved features or
functionality, than to spend the effort in keeping something outdated alive.

Whatever the future of the Seamonkey project will be, I'm very thankful
for the people caring for the project and supporting it.

You're all great!

USPS website will soon no longer support SeaMonkey

2018-04-15 Thread Mozilla User
First YouTube, then YahooMail, now I will soon no longer be able to
track my packages through USPS using SeaMonkey.

When on the USPS using SeaMonkey, I get this message:
Alert: As of April 30, USPS.com will no longer support outdated
browsers. To continue access, you may need to upgrade your browser. Read

:(

I guess years of using the Mozilla Browser, and then SeaMonkey are about
to come to an end. I loved the idea of it and have been a loyal user for
about 15 years, but now I guess I need to switch to FireFox. It's just a
pain in the neck to keep switching between browsers for certain
websites. I like having one browser for everything.

After wasting a couple of hours trying to resolve this problem in SM 2.48 mail

client problem I have encountered to date. All previous version upgraded
manually without problems. When in 2.48, I tried to delete the real e-mail
account directly below the phantom account and that did remove the phantom
account. So I thought that the problem was solved. I then recreated the e-mail
account in 2.48 and the phantom account did not appear above it. However,
because my e-mail files for that particular account reside on a folder that is
different from the default mail folder that the mail client uses, I would
change the mail folder path for that account. I then discovered that after
updating this parameter and when SM restarts, the phantom mail account icon
reappeared. Very frustrating.

Furthermore, what's more disturbing is that in the process of deleting the
account and re-creating it, the mail client appears to lose track of and get
confused about which account was deleted, and in fact some other real e-mail
accounts above the phantom account disappeared, even though strangely, when
examining the MAIL AND NEWSGROUP ACCOUNT SETTINGS window, all mail accounts
are still present even though some are NOT displayed in the mail client
itself, therefore there was no way to access the contents of the mail account.

In summary, it appears the phantom mail account icon displayed in the mail
client arises from some confusion of the mail client's tracking of accounts
and their associated mail folder locations. It appears that as soon as a mail
account's file path is updated to the non-default file path, the phantom mail
account appears in the mail client. The reason why I suspect this is related
to the cause of this new bug in SM 2.48 mail client, is because all MAIL

accounts and mail folders, and all existing mail filter rules for the mail
account that is displayed immediately below the phantom mail account, becomes
unavailable to the mail client.

Furthermore, when a mail account is deleted, sometimes the phantom mail
account does not disappear and the phantom account then "plagues" the next
available real mail account below it, and causes the same problem. This issue
and associated problems essentially renders the SM 2.48 mail client risky and
completely unuseable for me. I have over 10 e-mail accounts managed by the
mail client plus half a dozen newsgroups and it's unacceptable that potential
loss of an account can occur because the mail client gets confused about which

creating them. I've been forced to go back to SM 2.46 which is completely

It seems to work for my SM since I quick check my histories often. When I purge

I reviewed the entire thread and I have no confirmation of what SM version you
are using PrefBar with for deleting your browser history. Are you on SM 2.46 or
another version? The other user in this thread is on SM 2.46 but appears not to
be using his installed PrefBar for browser history deletion so I still have no
confirmation on whether PrefBar works in SM 2.46. If it does, then that doesn't
make sense because PrefBar essentially integrated the original expression lifted
from that Bugzilla thread and since that expression no longer works in the SM
2.46 error console, I don't see how the PrefBar using the exact same expression
in SM 2.46 would be functional.

Usually I would go into SQLite Manager extension installed in SM, run the
PLACES.SQLITE compacting, then run the expression in the SM error console, and
run the SQLite Manager compacting one more time and would notice a major
reduction in the PLACES.SQLITE file size, which then confirms that the
expression did its job.

Seamonkey 2.46 browser history manual deletion expression

2017-01-03 Thread User

Prior to upgrading to SM 2.46, I have used the following manual workaround shown
on comment 7 at this Bugzilla bug record below to delete browser history but
preserve the most recent 30 days:

https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=660646#c7

Using this expression:

Components.classes['@mozilla.org/browser/nav-history-service;1'].getService(Components.interfaces.nsIBrowserHistory).removeVisitsByTimeframe(0,
(new Date().setHours(0, 0, 0, 0) - (parseInt(prompt('Days of history to keep',
30)) - 1) * 24 * 60 * 60 * 1000) * 1000 - 1)

I just recently upgraded to SM 2.46 and found that using the expression I
mentioned above used in the SM error console's evaluation field to delete
browser history except the last 30 days, no longer works. The NUMBER OF DAYS
prompt that is supposed to appear with this expression no longer appears when
the expression is evaluated in the error console. I'm not sure if this problem
now have anything to do with the mentioned changes regarding the Javascript
debugger interface at this URL:

http://www.seamonkey-project.org/releases/seamonkey2.46/

and if so, what if any, is the workaround solution to execute the same
expression elsewhere in SM 2.46? This method has worked well for me up until now
and I'm guessing that the expression above just needs some update as some of the
elements the expression is referring to may now be invalid in SM 2.46. Thanks
for any advise from advance users / coders.

One possibility -- which only you can check -- is that the cookies in question
expired in the interim. Not all cookies are designed to last until 2039. So if
you restored after their expiration date, the expired cookies would be rejected
by the server and it would ask you to login again.

Also worth looking at your cookie defaults and site-specific permissions -- if
you're only accepting session cookies, they should not survive a program
termination (by definition), even if you don't have SM set to clear cookies on
termination.

There may be other possibilities I haven't thought of. Keep reading.

Your points are valid. However, the session restore usually happens within less
than 15 SECONDS of shutting down the SM application. The most I usually leave it
is maybe 10 to 15 minutes at best. So expiry isn't the cause. I also haven't
changed any cookie permission settings since upgrading from SM 2.21 to 2.23. It
just suddenly stopped working for some sites that needed the log in information
to be retained, whatever that might be. I've selected the option to accept all
cookies and accept them all normally. I think I'll try to clear all cookies for
specific sites that are having problems and then see how it fairs.

SM 2.24 browser multi-tab session restore failure

2014-03-07 Thread User
Summary - SM 2.24 browser does not always save a full snapshot of a browser tab
and this results in some web sites having to be re-logged in again after session
restore.

I recently upgraded from SM 2.21 to SM 2.24. In general, everything works fine
on 2.24, the upgrade was smooth as usual. However, I have noticed that SM 2.24's
browser tab restore now fails with some content where 2.21 did not fail before.
This involves sites which requires log in. Often, I may close the SM browser
with several tabs open, and then also close all other SM related windows to
completely shut down the application, wait 5 to 10 seconds and then restart the
SM browser window. This practice releases Windoww system resources and any
potential memory leaks, as well as stops the SM mail client from checking
e-mails at multiple accounts that I typed my password into during the last
session (i.e. no more new mail check / alerts to disturb the user).

With this practice, the first web site that SM 2.24 browser failed to fully save
its state is with OUTLOOK.COM. Previously with SM 2.21, when the session was
restored (anywhere from 10 seconds to 10 or 15 minutes after closing the browser
with multiple tabs and saving the session), I was able to get back into
outlook.com web mail without having to re-login again. However, with SM 2.24, it
seems to discard some private information and when I restore the multi-tab
browser session, I am prompted by outlook.com to re-login again.

Does anyone know what has changed in the browser session save that may cause SM
2.24 browser to leave out some parts of private data that would cause a failure
of full browser tab restore with scenarios such as this? I have other web sites
that requires log in and SM 2.24 restored them without problems but it seems
that SM 2.24 is not saving some parts of the browser tab in the session snapshot
which causes some sites to re-prompt for login again after browser session restore.

If anyone using outlook.com could test this problem by first logging into their
outlook.com web mail account, then opening multiple tabs, closing the SM 2.24
browser to save all tabs and then restarting the browser to see if they could
regain access to outlook.com web mail, I would appreciate hearing any feedback /
confirmations of this problem.

I have checked my CLEAR PRIVATE DATA settings in PREFERENCES, I previously had
it set to auto clear private data but the only data I selected to clear was
browser cache contents, which did not affect the older version SM 2.21 in always

resolved and I believe the problem has to do with how SM 2.24 saves browser tab
contents that is causing certain tabs with log in data to be lost in the session
save.

When the machine was booted this morning, the e-mail menu and icons that
used to come up were missing and SeaMonkey called for a new e-mail
account to be set up. Other than the missing e-mail menus, everything
else in SeaMonkey seems to be working properly. This situation reminds
me of a previous SeaMonkey upgrade where the bookmarks files went missing.

As I go back to the MS-DOS days, I looked at the hard drive file
structure and it looks like both the e-mail and bookmarks files are, in
fact, still sitting on the hard drive in their proper positions.

1) Can someone explain to me in simple language what may have gone wrong?

2) Can some kind soul tell me in a step-by-step 'fix it for dummies'
style how to get the e-mail working again?

Check your C:\Documents and Settings\gg\Application
Data\Mozilla\SeaMonkey profiles.ini file. That file tells SM which
profile to use on startup. Example:

[General]
StartWithLastProfile=1

[Profile0]
Name=default
IsRelative=1
Path=Profiles/xyz.default

Within the
C:\Documents and Settings\x\Application
Data\Mozilla\SeaMonkey\Profiles\xyz.default
is the prefs.js file. That file tells SM where your email/news/etc files
are located. Check to see if you have a backup of that file. If not, you
can edit with Wordpad or similar to point to xyz.default.

The alternative is to create a new profile, then in
Edit|Mail and News...|emailaccount|Server Settings|Local directory:
and point that to:

C:\Documents and Settings\x\Application
Data\Mozilla\SeaMonkey\Profiles\xyz.default\Mail\pop.xyz (if pop account)

Do the same for News etc.

This is the same as if you were to move the files to a different system
need to use the same mail folders etc. You can do a mass find
replace in prefs.js to point to the new location/profile.

3) Ditto for restoring the bookmarks files.

Thanks to Rob in my 'SM 2.15 (linux) bookmarks missing' thread:

Just remove places.sqlite* and it will be imported from your last
backup or from whatever source you manually import it.

Thanks, in advance, for any and all assistance.

Good luck.

Thank you so much for the guidance, particularly with regard to the
prefs.js file. I didn't know what the file did. I found a copy of
prefs.js on a tape back-up from six months ago, copied it, and plugged
it in. Suddenly, my wife's e-mail files all returned to normal.

You appear to think I know more than I actually do. While I know how to
manually copy files from particular directories (folders) and
sub-directories (sub-folders) and paste them where I want to put them
(from my MS-DOS days), I have never really understood how Windows works.
I didn't understand your instructions for retrieving the bookmarks
files. Do I just copy places.sqlite from an old back up and paste it
into the profile, overwriting whatever file with the same name is there?
I really do need guidance is a rather elementary form. Thanks, in
advance, for any additional assistance.

immediately connected to the new webmail. As I do not use their other
products, either web messenger or SMS windows I can offer no specific
feedback on your problem. However there was some YAHOO change which affected
already SM 2.5. So it doesn't seem to be due to a change in 2.6.

The ATT branded Yahoo web mail is not using the latest (i.e. 3rd generation) of
Yahoo web mail. It allows you to use either classic (1st generation) or you can
upgrade to the new ATT/Yahoo web mail which is only the 2nd generation web
mail. In the 2nd generation web mail, Yahoo Messenger IMs and SMSs are displayed
in simulated TABS. If you have this, then you do not have the 3rd generation
Yahoo web mail that uses simulated windows (that are moveable and resizeable)
which experiences problems with SM 2.6.

ATT/Yahoo web mail will say that SM 2.5 is not compatible with the upgraded
newer (i.e. 2nd generation) of Yahoo web mail. However, that message can be
ignored and you can upgrade to the new (2nd generation) Yahoo web mail and SM
will work normally. And this is what happened in your case. I know another user
that went through the same thing and when I ignored that message, I upgraded
them to ATT/Yahoo's newer web mail (which is 2nd generation and in fact
actually old).

Can't add new Email account

2011-05-12 Thread user

SeaMonkey 2.0.14 on Mac OS X 10.6
Trying to add new IMAP E-mail account on clear.net but
the dialog box to select Email, Newsgroup, etc never appears
and the subsequent dialog boxes are for adding a Newsgroup
not an E-mail account.

Note that this worked fine under Windoww XP.

This SeaMonkey on Mac OS X is the same one where my
personal certificate disappeared which leads me to think
something is damaged. But where? In my profile?

Certificates disappeared from Seamonkey 2.0.x

2011-05-11 Thread user

Mac OS X 10.6.7
Seamonkey 2.0.14, problem first noticed under 2.0.13

My personal certificates and the CA certificates which
authenticate them have disappeared from Seamonkey.
This used to all work prior to 2.0.13 but not neither
my personal certificates nor the CA Authority ceriticates
shows up in the Certificate manager.

However, if I try to re-install (at least one of) the
CA certificates I get a dialog bot saying that the
certificate is already installed but I cannot see it!

I'm running XP SP3 and SM 2.0.10 and I can't get .wmv (or any videos for
that matter) to open by double clicking on the attachment.
I have to save them to view them.
How can I fix this? Should I install a third party video player or
something?

1. Make sure that the XP File Associations are set to play the various
video file formats when properly selected.

2. Strongly consider one of the best OpenSource media players in
existence, VLC Media Player (http://www.videolan.org). VLC works and has
worked superbly with XP, Vista, Win 7 in the various Windows 32bit and
64bit versions.

In many ways, web browsers love VLC Media Player. Likewise, in many
ways it solves playing problems for web browsers, and of course for
full-time use as your Windows media player in general.

I've installed VLC player including the Mozilla plug-in and still have
the same problem.
When I double click or right click 'open' on an attached wmv. file, an
empty browser window opens and nothing happens other that 'done' appears
on the bottom left hand corner.
I set the file association for these files by right click open always
use this program to open..

Once again, a reboot got SM stable enough to use this install to make
this post.

After reboot, I had the following files in a Recovered Items folder in
my Trash - a plugtmp folder with plugin-300x250.swf and
plugin-728_ink.swf files in it.

In the recent cluster of 11/30/10 crashes the crash reason listed is -

EXC_BAD_ACCESS / KERN_PROTECTION_FAILURE

for all of them, and the Signature is -

_moz_cairo_pattern_destroy

...but this isn't anything like what is listed for the others. At least
two of these crashes occurred on SM restart attempts, the rest occurred
on opening Mail/News. As I recall...

Only next step I can think of would be to completely destroy/wipe this
install and rebuild everything...none of my other SM installs on either
of my two other machines are behaving this way - just my MacBook Pro.

And it's getting damn annoying...

What graphics card are you using? Since you're on a MBP, try switching
to the other built-in graphics card.

I'm using the low-power GPU...I'll give it a try, but none of the
history indicates that simply switching GPUs will stop this.

... but macs never crash???

Java issue

2010-10-25 Thread user
I am running SM 1.1.19 and the latest version of Java, v22 on an XP
machine sp3.

For the last three days I keep getting 2 error messages when trying to
either access a particular web page that utilizes Java or try to run the
Java test at java.com. This is an example of a web page that generates
the error messages- http://www.bigskyresort.com/Photos-Videos/Webcam.asp

The first error message states the plug in performed an illegal
operation, restart browser Clicking OK then generates another
error message, the new Java plug in requires a more recent version of
Firefox (version 3 or higher). The site loads at this point but the
Java app does not activate.

This site works from IE so it does not appear to be an issue with SM. I
have un-installed and reinstalled both SM and Java and done an extensive
cleaning of the registry as well as deleted Java folders with data in
them after the uninstall.

The only thing all this accomplished was to now cause the first error
message to pop up when I start SM. Everything else seems fine but this
Java thing is driving me nuts. I do not want to update SM to v2.x due
to the incompatibility with Roboform which I use extensively.

Any ideas?

FWIW, it's not known to me -- if SM is running, I /cannot/ launch a
second instance -- the system simply won't do it. Sure, I can open more
than one browser window or tab, but that's not what you're talking
about.

I concur with you, Paul, that the OP is talking about his girlfriend
clicking to have several/many Browser windows open, rather than having
multiple tabs open in one Browser.

Where as, as I read Beverly's response, he is thinking the OP is getting
a hidden instance of SM in the Task list.

Guys,
Running SM 2.0.8 here and thought I had seen the end of this problem , BUT
it has returned: under some-circumstances (e.g. just ran CCLeaner) I will
not get SM GUI BUT I taskmgr shows seamonkey.exe ! I can then launch
ANOTHER seamonkey.exe. Only solution I've found is to kill the processes
AND reboot from power-off condition -- and even then I have to wait quite
a while before SM launches its GUI.

I suspect there is some resource used by SM that is also used by Adobe AIR
or some other memory resident process.
- RM

That's interesting since I also ran the latest version of CCleaner a few
day's ago and if Task Manager certainly shows n instances of SM running.

When I exit SeaMonkey by closing all the windows or using the Exit

consumes about 1/2 of the CPU to no worthwhile effect that I can see.
I terminate this errant process with Task Manager.

SM 2.0.4 - mac os 10.6 - O.K. buttons + local folders

2010-05-21 Thread user
1. The O.K. buttons for mail and account settings and create sub
folder (in local folders) do not cause the window to close. This is the
behavior I am used to in other OSs.

2. In windows, when I specify a location for local folders, SM
automatically creates certain default sub folders. On my system this
does not happen. I can not create sub folders manually either. I am
trying to create local folders on a usb drive.

Do I have to reinstall SM?

Just get mozbackup, use it to backup your profile, and then use it to

page doesn't come up the same as it does with Firefox.

If I stick with SeaMonkey I know I'll have to update sooner or later,

Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.9.1.8)

I just tried it, and I did not get the message. However, I usually
browse with my preferences set to load images only from the same domain
as the page I'm viewing. For Bing Maps, I had to change that to load
images from any domain. Fortunately, I have this preference setup as a
menulist in the PrefBar extension.

Congratulations, you are the first one to answer the question I asked.

I did install 2.0.3 along with my version and noticed right away that
2.0.3 loads much faster and seems to load the web pages faster also. It
also loads bing maps without giving me the warning first.

One minor thing I didn't care for is I sent it to save a copy of my
emails in my sent folder and I also have the drafts folder and trash
folders under my email account name. It also set itself to save
everything in a set of folders under Local Folders which I thought was a
waste and also a little strange. I went into preferences and changed
that and it seems all is well now. I would like to delete the Local
Folders but I haven't figured out yet if I can without messing things up.

Don, if you were having problems every time with every server, then I
might look at SM, but if it's random servers at random times, then I'd
put it down to net congestion.

Common sense tells me it's a problem with my server,charter.com, because
it just started a month or so ago and it happens about 99% of the time.
I've been using the same browser much longer then that. The problem is,
with charter when you contact tech support the first thing that comes
out of their mouth is that you must have a problem on your end. I can
hold my own with them arguing about most computer related problems but
when they deny having any problems with their servers it's pretty hard
to prove otherwise.

The OS is XP SP3.

Yes, I have a nonstandard SM installation. Program files are installed
to:

E:\Mozilla\SMonkey

to keep my boot partition smaller, which makes boot partition image
backups easier. 2.0.3 was installed to the same location.

1.1.18's config files have always been in the standard place:

C:\Documents and Settings\[myname]\Application Data

Has anyone dealt with this before, or can point me to a page where
someone has?

I had issues like that clear back when they came-out with SeaMonkey 2-
the best way is not to upgrade until they get all the bugs worked-out, I
think there's a settings under preferences, advanced for Seamonkey not
to search for a upgrade. Stay tuned to this channel for news of when a
good version comes out.

cutting and pasting it to the top. Any way to make Seamonkey change
this behavior?

Seamonkey also seems backwards in that by default it lists emails in

I also forgot to add there is a sort-order button- just click on where
it says date and Sea Monkey will sort either up or down.

Sea Monkey 2 and Error Message

I finally upgraded to the new Sea Monkey from 1.? version about three
days ago and now having a devil of a time.
1. I have at least two crashes a day, if not more which throws me out
of Sea Monkey

2. When I try to read a .pdf file, I get the following message
The Adobe Acrobat/Reader that is running can not be used to view PDF
files in a web browser. Please exit Adobe Acrobat/Reader and exit your
web browser and try again.
I use Adobe Acrobat Reader 8 and also have Adobe Acrobat 9 Professional.
I never had this problem before I upgraded, why now?
I also don't have either of the Adobe Acrobats running in the
background, but normally use them to open these files on line or in
e-mails. Maybe I am not understanding the error message correctly?

Anyway, my thanks to those folks who offered suggestions. Out of consideration for

solved my problems. I guess folks more sophisticated than I am will have to determine who
(McAfee or SM) has to address the larger problem... whatever it turns out to be.

SM 2.00 / 2.01 mail client drag and drop bug

2010-01-16 Thread User
Does anyone know if the SM 2.00 / 2.01 mail client drag and drop bug has been
reported and will be fixed anytime soon? Quite often when an e-mail is dragged
from the top right header pane to the folder pane, the drag and drop operational
fails. When this occurs, the drag and drop has to be repeated TWICE, i.e. only
on the 3rd time will the drag and drop actually work. It appears that when a
mail is dragged for the FIRST TIME, there is only a very short period before the
drop will fail, so to make it work the first time, the mail has to be quickly
dropped into a folder as soon as possible.
