RE: Window-Eyes Update 9.5.4

2017-01-18 Thread Sky Mundell via Talk
We all need to reunite as a community. The blind need to focus on
reuniting, not being so fragmented. The blind community needs to be strong
at advocating for ourselves on what we want and would like in the future and
so on and so forth. The best way to deal with a situation is to sit down
and educate, and do some lobbying/education. I don't think enough of us are
doing that and a lot of us are either staying quiet, or just complaining.

It is good that a update was done but if you look at the readme for what
changes were made there were no real improvements or bug fixes.
Normally in the past a update would include a long list of improvements and
bug fixes. So this update was to keep it working, which is a good thing,
but shows no effort taking place as in the past to keep improving on WE.

problem with key echo of typing characters

2017-01-18 Thread Ted Larson via Talk
Dear List:

I have windows ten and the latest window eyes on my new Asus computer. When
I am typing characters, one after the other, the key echo of characters
works fine. However, if I wait for more than five seconds, and start
typing, the first character is cut off at the beginning of the character.
Such as window eyes saying eriod instead of saying period. It does this
when typing in all applications. It seems as if the computer is groggily
waking up whenever I start typing anything. What could be going on here?
Thanks for any ideas. Regards: Ted Larson

Hi there!

When selecting text using W.E. do the following. Place the pointer at
the beginning of what you wish to hi-light and press the F8 key. W.E.
should say 'selection start'. when you are through hi-light the text
press the 'F8 key' again and W.e. should say something like 'copied to

I just installed this update. There is a minor problem. After the download
completes, you are asked to allow Windows to install this program. You need
to activate the Yes button, but Window-Eyes does not speak the option, as it
did in the past; sighted help is necessary.

Hello

I just installed this update. There is a minor problem. After the download
completes, you are asked to allow Windows to install this program. You need
to activate the Yes button, but Window-Eyes does not speak the option, as it
did in the past; sighted help is necessary.

Re: JART and compatibility

2017-01-18 Thread brice Mijares via Talk
I too have problems opening doc files with jarte. If you figure it out,
let me know how you did it. I had no problems on my last system running
Vista, but Win ten seems as if it don't like something about Jarte and
this compatibility pack. Thank You.

I don't use Jarte all the time. So I uninstalled Jarte and the compatibility
pack. Then when I decided I wanted it again I reinstalled Jarte. And they said
that Microsoft had removed the compatibility pack from their site because they
were no longer supporting it. But they gave me a link to another one, I think
it was on cNet. So I downloaded that one, installed it, and .doc and .docx
files read fine in Jarte now.
I just zipped up and uploaded the compatibility pack installer I used to
Dropbox. So here's a link to it.
I'd first uninstall the one you've installed.

I hope it works.

set up. I have mine completely turned off and was not prompted to have

I am astounded that someone from Ai Squared did not make an announcement

would need to take. It is very disappointing that the info was posted on
another list first.

Re: Vocalizer Expressive installation problem

2017-01-18 Thread Reg Webb via Talk
Hi Jay and thanks for your suggestion

It turned out that it was an older version of the voice installer, which
was either outdated or corrupted.
I was initially confused because Samantha seemed not to be available. I
had to select American English first of course. Having done thatt,
overwritten the installer, and installed again, it now works.

Window-Eyes does not offer language packs.

Do you own a license for an English version, your Window-Eyes will be
all in English. Should you want any other language, you will have to
install a language-.specific license, and that in effect means, you have
to buy a brand new product.

Or, if you are running the free office-version of WinEyes, you will have
to download and install (from scratch) a locale version of the screen
reader.

Sum it all up, you CANNOT install any additional languages for your
Window-Eyes installation. Once it is installed in one language, you
can't change that, unless you want to reinstall with a locale version.

As to the languages supported, I do believe there should be a list
available on the download site for the screen reader.

Urgent Notification

2017-01-18 Thread Doug Geoffray via Talk
January 16, 2017: Urgent Notification

Forthcoming Startup Failures in ZoomText 10.1 and other Ai Squared Software
Products

Problem

The digital certificate used to certify newer ZoomText and Window-Eyes software
products has been compromised. As a result, our certificate will be revoked on
or around January 26th, which will result in startup failures for the following
Ai Squared products.

Affected Ai Squared Software Products

When attempting to start the following Ai Squared software products, the
product will fail to launch and display a Windows error message: "A referral
was returned from the server"

* ZoomText Magnifier v10.1  Build numbers 10.10.8 through 10.11.6
* ZoomText Magnifier/Reader v10.1   Build numbers 10.10.8 through 10.11.6
* ZoomText Fusion v10.1 Build numbers 10.11.1 through 10.11.5
* ZoomText Keyboard v4  Build numbers 4.0.0 and 4.1.0
* Window-Eyes v9.5  Build numbers 9.5.1 and 9.5.3

When attempting to start the following Ai Squared software products, the
product may launch even though the certificate has been revoked. Anti-virus
utilities may detect the invalid certificate and block the software from
running.

* ZoomText ImageReader v1.2 Build numbers 1.2.16106
* ZoomText Voices (language packs) v1.0 Build numbers 1.0.1.4693
* Vocalizer Expressive v1.3 (for Windows Eyes) Build numbers 1.3.0.13329

Note: Inspection of the certificate will show that the certificate is invalid.
Inspection and validation of certificates is a process performed by some
organizations.

Solution (software updates)

For each of the affected products, software updates incorporating a new digital
signature will be released and available for download prior to January 26th. We
will send updated information as it becomes available. You can check
https://www.aisquared.com/certificatefix for updated information.
Software ProductUpdate version
ZoomText Magnifier v10.1 10.11.7
ZoomText Magnifier/Reader v10.1 10.11.7
ZoomText Fusion v10.1 10.11.7
ZoomText Keyboard v4.1 4.1.1
Window-Eyes v9.59.5.4
ZoomText ImageReader 1.21.3.0
ZoomText Voices v1.01.0.2
Vocalizer Expressive v1.3 (for Windows Eyes)1.3

Warning When Disabling Security Options

Various websites provide steps for disabling Windows security options with the
expectation that unsigned software executables will start and run. Disabling
these security options will not fix these problems for the ZoomText and Windows
Eyes products and may compromise security and protection from malware. Ai
Squared strongly recommends against disabling these security options.

Conclusion

We apologize for the inconvenience this issue has caused you, but assure you we
are doing everything possible to rectify this matter as soon as possible. To
minimize downtime, we encourage you to update your software as soon as possible.
If you have questions or require assistance resolving this problem, contact the
Ai Squared support team at (727) 803-8600 option 2 or
mailto:supp...@aisquared.com.

As some of you may have already noticed, we just released English Window-Eyes
9.5.4 this morning (January 18th). Other languages will soon follow. It is
very important if you are using Window-Eyes 9.5.1 or 9.5.2 or 9.5.3 that you
upgrade to 9.5.4 before the digital certificate described above is revoked.

There are 3 changes from version 9.5.3 to 9.5.4:

1) Support has been added for the HumanWare BrailleNote Touch braille display.
2) An issue where multiple hooking errors would occur in the latest testing
builds (insider build) of Windows 10 has been fixed.
3) An updated digital certificate has been used to sign all executables. (as
per the description above)

Again, it is critical you upgrade your copy of Window-Eyes 9.5.1 or 9.5.2 or
9.5.3 to 9.5.4 immediately. Once the certificate is revoke these copies of
Window-Eyes will no longer launch leaving you without speech and/or braille.

Doug

Google's great for this. For example in a google search put in nvda dec
access and results will be there. I wonder if Google would have a result
explaining how Dec Access for NVDA relates in any way to Window-Eyes.

Re: Daisy Formatted files

2017-01-18 Thread Larry Higgins via Talk

Veronica,

I think I should inform you that you can also read the Daisy files
using the Web browser of your choice. I tend to use Mozilla Firefox
because it seems to handle very large books better than IE11. All you
need do to do this is to unzip the files for a given book into a folder
of the same name, and look for the title of the book's .xml file, and
press enter on it. You will be able too navigate most books using links
and headers.

You may use an online reader located on the Bookshare page, but at this
point, I have not elected to do so. I would rather download my books to
my computer in order to keep them for later reference. There is plenty
of information concerning these readers in the help section of the home
page.

HTH,

Larry

Hello Veronica,

I just checked out the Bookshare web site, and it does appear that you
will need a Reader to read that Daisy file.

There are three readers mentioned on the Bookshare site, that are Free,
and another 4 or 5 that require a payment to purchase, ranging from $10
to $35.

Looks like you will need to down load one of these readers, to your computer,
and read the file in that reader.

Some of these readers have a Voice that can read the Text in the Daisy
file.

Re: LANGUAGE PACKAGES FOR WINDOW-EYES?

2017-01-18 Thread David via Talk
