Good grief, why is this showing up now, posted this 6 m months ago. I
have since found a way around this. Problem is, the Dell doesn't have
stereo mix or anything like that.

Actually, being able to record what you hear from the web or anywhere is a
function of your sound card. Of course, you can record from output jacks or
via a microphone, but the feature that lets you record directly what is
coming from your sound card isn't always available. My on-board sound is
Realtec High-Definition Audio, and it has a feature called Stereo Mix
which allows for recording just what you are hearing through your speakers.
This feature can be hidden and can show up if you check two items in the
context menu while in the recording tab of sounds. The two items are called
show disabled devices and show disconnected devices.

No, that is not correct.

MalwareBytes is designed to compliment a standard anti-virus program. It
focuses primarily on the latest threats; adware, malware, spyware,
trojans, rootkits, and web sites. And the free version does not run in
real-time or update automatically. So it is doing nothing until you
manually update it and manually run a scan. It is typically better at
removing problems after they've infected your system than most
anti-virus programs, which typically work best when things are trying to
sneak in the back door.

I've had the Pro version for years and ran it along with Eset Nod32 and
now MSE with no problems.

Exactly it at times is also a good idea to have other software that can
catch bugs as well. You don't run these in real time you run them or
install them when you think you have a problem. For example spy bot search
destroy will some times catch things that defender misses or mulware bites
doesn't see either. On most of my boxes I have defender running in real
time. it is resource lite does a good job and is free. Mulware bites is
also on my boxes. It does a good job of catching stuff as described below.
I also have spy bot search destroy and use it as I described above. Finely
if I am sure that I have a bug I will install avg or avast and let them do
there thing. Once I have solved the problem I either uninstall them or
disable them. The rule of thumb here is never let more then one checker do
real time checking at a time. understand that this can happen and will
cause you problems if it does and make sure it doesn't. there is no reason
though that you can't have more then one protection salution on your box if
you want it.

This is not complicated!

Actually this is not true. Many virus protection packages will
allow you to run them along side one another. Defender will not and
if you do run programs like this along side one another you are
 asking for trouble.

I agree with Tom Kingston's comments below. Malware Bytes can be run
with an anti-Virus program since Malware Bytes is not itself an
anti-virus program. It gets rid of malware and spyware. Those are
different from viruses for which you need a anti-virus program.
Just like Tom, I too have run Malware Bytes Pro on the same system as
Eset Anti-Virus Security Suite for years.
Once you buy the pro version, you own the pro version including all
upgrades for life.

Elizabeth

At 11:54 PM 4/4/2015, you wrote:

No, that is not correct.

MalwareBytes is designed to compliment a standard anti-virus
program. It focuses primarily on the latest threats; adware,
malware, spyware, trojans, rootkits, and web sites. And the free
version does not run in real-time or update automatically. So it is
doing nothing until you manually update it and manually run a scan.
It is typically better at removing problems after they've infected
your system than most anti-virus programs, which typically work best
when things are trying to sneak in the back door.

I've had the Pro version for years and ran it along with Eset Nod32
and now MSE with no problems.

It is not being
updated.

Actually, XP does get updated occasionally.

At some point soon window-eyes will probably not work with it.

It Window-eyes stops working with XP, blind screen users will use a
program such as NVDA which continues to work with XP because the
creators of NVDA understand that a lot of people worldwide are going
to stay with XP because they may not be able to afford the new
technology we in the West can afford to buy. If you can afford to
upgrade from XP, sure, you will be more secure and all the anti-virus
program creators will tell you so.

Windows 8.1 can be maid to look like xp for the most part using clasic
shell and old new explorer. Window-eyes works wonderful with clasic shell
and old new explorer will give you the menu system back in explorer and will
work wonderful with window-eyes. You will also have access to windows 8 apps
such as facebook window-eyes works like a dream with this app for example
this means you will not need to get apps like socialize.
You will have access to windows defender as well. A much better built in
speech synthesizer the ability to refresh your system with speech if need
be. The list of advantages goes on but I think we get the idea.
As I said I don't want to start a debate, but xp is old and really should
be updated to windows 8.1 if possible.
Most systems running xp will also run windows 8.1. unless it is a really old
box. This means if you can update you really should.

No if you are running defender then you are running spy ware and virus
protection. If you are using windows 8.x. you don't want to run other
salutions along side defender because this will cause you nothing but
trouble and defender will not let you do that any way. If you are running an
earlier version of windows then you should get security essentials because
defender on these versions only does spy ware. That is why I said defender
is not on earlier versions speaking of the windows 8 defender.

You should run it exclusively. If you install other products that perform
the same tasks windows will turn defender off to prevent problems.

My understanding is that Windows Defender includes ad ware defense along
with virus proitection. It sounds better than Security Essentials. Now
that I know it is in Windows 7, is it recommended that I uninstall
Security Essentials?

RE: Microsoft Defender?

Defender is built in to windows 8.x. it is very accessible it is very good
and it is free. I have not been infected with anything sense I started using
defender on windows 8. If you are not using windows 8.x then you will not
have access to defender. You will need to get Microsoft security essentials
this is also a very good product and it served me well on windows 7.
