The list was written when there was a focus on users that are visually
impaired and cannot use the mouse. It was important that each function
in TB! was also accessable by keyboard. so, not everybody needs to
remember all these shortcuts.

It is interesting that the function that started this thread has been
available since 2001. It is true that a keyboard shortcut can be
useful in a case like this where there isn't any other way to access
the function. But when there are 100+ shortcuts many of them arcane
with multiple key presses, it becomes unlikely that I will remember
many.

Hello Stefan,

ST> "lose track" of a folder (i.e. the folder's name become unusable) is

How do I know if it has become corrupt?

Here is the filter:

 TB! Message Filter
beginFilter
UID: [94E92780.01C486BF.28DBFC11.26D0F257]
Name: The\20Bat\20Archive
Filter: {\0D\0A\20`13`0`5\0D\0A}
MoveMessage folder \5C\5C\5CArchive\5CThe\20Bat
IsActive
IsSendQueue
endFilter

I checked the files in the archive folder this morning and there was one that
was from yesterday and when I refiltered the account it sent all of this thread
to the archive even though it only started yesterday and it is supposed to only
send messages older than 5 days.

This is particularly unusual as it is a pop account.

My more concerning issue is with the IMAP accounts that only complete 9 of
10 transactions. (I mean that it does not seem to filter every one correctly,
it
may do them all but it may not). I also have an issue where a manual filter
sometimes acts twice on the same message.)

I would love to help straighten this out, but it is inconsistent and in part I
believe that you need to filter many messages at once using moderately
complicated filters.

BTW, this happens on 2 computers so if things are corrupt it has happened twice.

Let me know what other info I can provide.

What exactly you mean by "losing track"? The only way a filter could

A truly clean solution would be exporting existing filters in
human-readable form, checking they don't have anything strange in them, then
wiping everything connected with TB (including folders in "Application
data" and registry entries), reinstalling and recreating the
profile from scratch and importing the filters.
This guarantees that any internal inconsistencies in the database
that possibly cause the errors will be neutralized.

I fully agree. After so many years of marking the messages as read with
Ctrl+M (or my customised Space bar) it is many times a nonsense having

Virtual Folders Issues ('*' in names if edited ; VF re-filtering only after TB! restart ; Incorrect Number of e-mails in VF (=0))

2011-05-27 Thread RS (FEDARA)
Hi,

1.STARS IN A NAME
When editing VF properties I always get a message that name is
improper - because it contains characters '*' (* GIVEN_NAME *). Star
is automatically added while VF is created and every time I need to
manually remove them before saving.

2. RE-FILTERING
Re-filtering on the VF takes place only after restart :(
You can change properties but they will be updated after restart.

3. NUMBER OF MESSAGES = 0
I have 3 VF ; one gives a proper number of messages ; 2 other shows 0
(71 and 120 messages in them). Got it today after pressed CTRL+M to
mark them all read ; got the same exceptions 10 times in 2 minutes
time and that was it...

Moreover, TB! started to ask me every few minutes for a
password to an account that is set as not to be checked and to be
ignored while check all is pressed.

Once more replying to myself to say, that it doesn't seem to have
anything to do with *new* filters, but with the re-filter function in
general. I moved some messages from this very list's folder to the
inbox manually and re-filtering did nothing, although the filter had
correctly moved them to their folder when I received them.

Select (highlight) the filter in my original message and copy (Ctrl+C)
it. Then open Sorting Office and paste as a new Outgoing filter and you
will be able to see what the new (pasted) filter does.

I'm sorry, I don't understand anything of this.
I just want to filter afterwards for several specific
persons, who don't belong to any group for me.

> You can say that Incoming filters act on Inbox and Outgoing

The thing is, I don't want to filter prophylactic, I want to
decide _after_ I get the impression a contact becomes regular.
That needs a certain amount of exchanged messages.

Hmm.. yes, that might be the only way to do it.
First creating an outgoing filter for a person, than refilter the
Sent Mail folder and choosing acting like outgoing filters.
Thanks.

I'm not sure what you mean? The filtering system hasn't been changed
for almost three years, you're not saying that you want to go back to
the v1/v2 filtering system, are you?
Besides that system had incoming and outgoing filters too. Only thing
was that you had to enter the source folder, whereas you now may enter
a source folder.

BTW With filtering manually I meant this:
Select folder -> right mouse button -> Re-filter

Hi Roelof,

> But you don't want to filter the Inbox and the Sent Mail

No.
I first don't want to create a filter. If a conversation
keeps restricted to a few mails, then using the Inbox
and Sent Mail folders are sufficient. But when, after
awhile, it looks, the contact goes on, then I might
decide to create a filter. That means filtering afterwards,
which I used to do so for many years and it fits me fine
that way.

> Simply create your incoming and outgoing filters.

That can be done for future in- and outgoing messages to
that person.

> When you've done that you filter your Inbox manually

That's what I ment...
In previous versions I could filter the Inbox and Sent Mail
folder using the Sorting Office. Now it seems only possible
doing that by hand. and I won't do that. That's Stone-age acting.
The new Incoming and Outgoing filtering is fine, but replacing
it in stead of adding is bad.

Hello Gunivortus,

You should create Outgoing filters for this. And you may want to
consider 'Group filter' like the one I include below. as soon as someone
is added to address book and included in a group, the filter will act on
mail sent to him/her and even create the folder if it doesn't exist yet.

 TB! Message Filter
beginFilter
UID: [5F3E9A46.01C771F1.43F85958.78B7E4BF]
Name: Office\20OZ
Filter: {\0D\0A\20`12`ERM\20OZ`0`1\0D\0A}
MoveMessage AutoFolder folder \5C\5CERM\20Spain\5COffice\20OZ\5C%ABToName
IsActive
IsSendQueue
endFilter

> anymore. And neither the Inbox. There's Ingoing and
> outgoing. Which means IMO, that filtering the Inbox and
> the Sent Mail folder isn't possible anymore using the

You can say that Incoming filters act on Inbox and Outgoing filters act
on messages that will otherwise be placed in Sent Mail folder.

> That's bad. I don't want to create a filter at the
> beginning of a conversation with someone, but I'll do
> that after I notice, that it becomes a regular contact.

You can do as I suggest above. And also, if you create separate filters
for each contact, you can always select Sent Mail folder in your folder
tree, right click on it, select 'Re-filter' and then pick the type of
filters you want to use to refilter the Sent Mail folder. I have done
this not too long ago, when I created 'Group filters' for Incoming,
Outgoing, Read and Replied.

But you don't want to filter the Inbox and the Sent Mail folder. You
want to filter the incoming and the outgoing mail.
Simply create your incoming and outgoing filters.
When you've done that you filter your Inbox manually and you'll see
that TB automatically selects the incoming filter set (though you can
override that). Likewise for your sent mail folder.

Yes, but totally different. If I recall correctly, the threading problem
with your messages was a syntactical one. That is, the References header
in your messages included the right MIDs but they were not enclosed in
brackets (<>) as RFCs suggest. The problem with Xav's message is that
MIDs included in References header (properly enclosed in <>) are _not_
the MIDs of the messages he is replying to, but the MID (converted by his
server?) of a non existing message.

Roelof is right. It works as it should: you have filters that can
be active/nonactive and manual/automatic, and you can select Manual
only at refilter. So:

A1. active and manual, when refilter, you DONT select manual only:
filter works
A2. active and manual, when refilter, you select manual only: filter
works
B1. active and manual UNCHECKED, when refilter, you DONT select manual
only: filter works
B2. active and manual UNCHECKED, when refilter, you select manual
only: filter DOES NOT work
C. not-active with any other combination: filter DOES NOT work

I hope I dont have a typo in it :))

It is working as designed. When re-filtering, all active filters will be

I can confirm that here too.  Also I created a new folder for
mailing list messages that did not get created on the server.
My extensive imap folder hierarchy does not get loaded when
TB first starts until I open and close the "Manage Imap Folders"
window.  Many of those chooser windows open with the selections
reversed.  Manage Imap folders opens with the subscribed folders
marked unsubscribed and vice versa.

Lots of other little things.  This is an alpha after all.  It looks to
me like Rit broke a lot of things in the process of trying to fix
the task manager.  The task manager is a lot better, but still
has some problems.

No, I want to view all mails received more than x days ago.

'age' uses the creation date and that is my problem. I want to filter
based on received date and there is currently no way to set up a filter
that shows all messages *received* more than x days ago. Unless I use
'date of', but then I have to edit the filter daily since there is no
way to specify relative values using 'date of'.

I hope I made myself more clear.

If you use two filters, one for 'AGE' greater than, 'AND' and a second one
for 'AGE' less than, should give you only mail a particular day. For
example greater than 3 days and less than 5 days should give you only
mail which is four days old. Will this not give you what you require?

I'm not certain though whether this option looks at the received date
or the created date.

I have now setup two global filters, one looking for
X-Text-Classification: junk and one for scanning the subject for
the word SPAM.

If this does not help, I will send the mails to the devs. Meanwhile, I

Thats how I do it (the filter that watches K9's header is a common filter).

Since you can manually re-filter and it works, I'm trying to reproduce the
behaviour with the .msg files you sent as PM by re-directing them to myself

I'm (back) using K9 (again), just like you... my condition in the spam
filter is

Header Field: "x-text-classification" starts with: "spam"

(notice I have "starts with" as condition) - but no other difference.

FWIW, even though it doesn't seem to matter, I have arranged the actions in
my filter(s) to follow a more "logical" flow, that ist, 1st mark as read -
2nd set color group - 3rd move the message (this has been discussed at
length here and I don't want to start the argument again, its ok like it is
for me).

Just an idea: I'd try to export the message, remove all unnecessary headers
(like the lengthy info headers from Spam Assassin) with an editor and try
to filter again after importing the headerwise stripped down message.

Additionally, if you want to, you can send me the original messages that
don't want to be filtered and I'll try to reproduce it here.
