Mark thread read ...

2003-03-04 Thread Stuart Hemming

... or what is a thread?

Imagine I have a set of messages threaded thus:

Root
   |- (1) Single Message
   |- (2) Sub-thread
   |- (3) Sub-thread

Now, if I were reading the root and pressed ctrl-shift-m I rightly see
all the messages below it marked as read. However, if I am reading,
say, message (2) and did the same thing, I would /expect/ only message
(2) and its children to be marked as read when, in fact all of root's
messages are so marked.

Am I alone in thinking that this isn't right?

Yes and no.
I'd like to have the same behavior as you describe, but I don't think
the current implementation is wrong. The function is called mark thread
as read (don't nail me on the exact words, I'm to lazy starting wine
and searching for the correct words) and the functionality both of us
(and maybe and uncounted number of other people out there) would like to
see is mark _sub_-thread as read ... A significant, three letter,
difference :-/

I guess the best thing is to submit a Wish list item. Simply follow

IME it depends on whether the message list or the account tree has the
focus. If the account tree has the focus, the object that you're
applying Mark all as read to is the folder and I would expect all
messages in that folder to be so marked. However, if the focus is on
the message list, I expect the current thread to be marked.

FWIW, this is the behaviour on my system.

Moving folders

Anyone else have problems moving Common Folders around the tree?

I've got a Common Folder the has the options for Move In and Move Up
greyed out. This folder is at the bottom of the tree (so it *can't*
move down and as far 'Out' as possible). Other times I'll create a
folder that, for example, can only move up.

Too many QTs displayed ??

2003-03-04 Thread Miguel A. Urech
Hello all,

QTs are no doubt one of the many great features of TB, that is why the
number of QTs I use keeps increasing.

Most of I my QTs are used within templates, but there is a number of
them I use in real time while composing a message. If I don't
remember the name (or I'm not sure) I go to Utilities/Insert Quick
Template to select it, but this list is getting so large...

Does anybody agree with me that it would be useful to have an option

The account in question might be restricted (contact your ISP) or you
are trying to access an smtp-server belonging to account1 with ISP1,

What I forgot in my previous message:

You started your question as an answer to another thread. That's
not the best thing to do for the following reason.

The Bat is able to thread messages properly, in order to see what I
mean, just select the folder where you're storing the messages from
this list. Go to the menu: view - view threads by - references. Now
you'll see that all messages are lined up after the message to which
they're first, second (or whatever) level replies to.

You started what's essentially a new thread by replying to another
message. That means it shows up as listed in another thread. Since
people sometimes skip messages in threads they don't consider
interesting (for lack of time). They might skip your message too,
since they're not aware of the newly started thread. So next time
you'd do yourself a favor by sending a new message in stead of a
reply, because you're reaching a larger audience and one of those
might have the answer you've been waiting for.

This is not not meant to criticize you, but only to help you
appreciate the options TB offers and to be able to get more effect out
of your efforts.

If the server is set for (for instance) POP before SMTP then you may
have been running SMTP sends after a POP query purely
coincidentally.

Or the administrator of the server may have changed the
configuration overnight. If it is an Exchange server then OE may be
picking up the change automatically and TB would be left high and

but I didn't expect it to be perfect. Version 2 is rumored to be
written in C/C++ so may have a better chance of running, and/or being
converted for Linux.

Yes, but I don't know whether it is a beta issue.

I've got a Common Folder the has the options for Move In and Move Up
greyed out. This folder is at the bottom of the tree (so it *can't*
move down and as far 'Out' as possible). Other times I'll create a
folder that, for example, can only move up.

It appears that you can move folders by right-clicking and choosing
the context menu item only within the account. So if a folder is the
last one in the account, you cannot move it down but only up. If you
try this with a folder in the middle of the account, you can move it
both ways.

In order to move folders across accounts, you hold down the alt key
while dragging it with the mouse. This is safe with the release
version, but you want to check with TBBETA first for the beta version
you are using.

Sorting order of character sets

2003-03-04 Thread Artemich
Hello tbudl,

Is it possible to change the order in list of character set (view menu
of Main window) and/or Message Encodings list (Option menu of Editor
window)?

It also would be nice to have the most wanted items on the top, when
calling from the menus, and at the bottom when right
clicking status bar in the editor.

BTW, very strange (for me), that the same thing is named differently and
located in different menus.

Thanks in advance.

JA The easiest way is to make your templates as 2 Quick Templates, then

how should i use the 'some condition' ? I'll try to make myself
clear: i'm subscribed to several lists and sometimes it happens that
i have to ask something off-list to a member.

Now, if i get a reply and want to reply again, my original language
kicks in. The same happens when i just compose a message in english:
my sig etc shows in my native language. So, how and which condition
do i have to make to set the language to english, both when composing

I hope this sounds clear :-)

I only use POFile to classify spam and no-spam but I am quite sure it

You could use a variety of conditions. Use different e-mail addresses
for lists in different languages, then the e-mail address you're using
(or the account) defines your language.
Use the address book to store language info. Doesn't have to be a
group, but it can also be the country-field from the address book
(%ABToCountry), you don't have to enter the actual country there, but
use something to identify the language you're most likely to have in
common.
Another possibility would be folder templates, though it would be
difficult to get the reply back to the folder where the original
message was created, unless you'd be using the address book again.

That's a clever idea, and it should work. I've got popfile set up to

The easiest way I can think of is to highlight what you want to forward,
press Ctrl-C, then use a template which uses %CLIPBOARD rather than
%QUOTES. I think. But then I'm no expert on these things. Maybe somebody
else will have a better idea :-)

Permanently or on a per message basis?

If permanently, you have to work on your forward template. Inserting
the original text using the %Text macro should do it.

If you want to edit a single message, take a look at the bottom row of
the editor. The third box from the left probably says Stream. Change
it (by clicking on it) to Column. Now you can cut - and paste if you
want to - entire columns.

Did that help?

Setting language automatically in replies

2003-03-04 Thread Miguel A. Urech
Hello all,

Krister Ekstrom in mid:[EMAIL PROTECTED] gave me
the idea of setting the language automatically in replies based on the
language of the original message.

This method is only valid if your are using POPFile for spam
detection, like I am.

Because I mainly correspond in English and Spanish, I have changed my
POPFile from two buckets, 'spam' and 'real', to three: 'eng', 'esp'
and 'spam'. I have reset statistics, re-trained it with some 400
existing messages and, for the moment, it is running at 100% accuracy.
Obviously, I have POPFile set to include the X-Text-Classification:
header in classified messages.

In TB I have created the following QT:

,- [ SLANG ]
| %IF:%SETPATTREGEXP='(?im-s)^(X-Text-Classification)\:\s*(.*)$'%-
| %REGEXPBLINDMATCH='%HEADERS'%-
| %SUBPATT='2'=eng:%LANGUAGE='BR':%LANGUAGE='SP'
`-

And in all my reply templates I have included it right after %Cursor:

,- [ ]
| %Cursor%QINCLUDE=SLANG%-
`-

And it works!!! Now I can forget about having to change the language
manually :-)))

I'm forced to ask since I don't know what to look for to determine if
2 above is correct.

Thanks.

Hello Kara Denizi,

On or about Tuesday, March 04, 2003 at 21:10:31GMT -0500 (which was
9:10 PM in the tropics where I live) Kara Denizi posted:

From looking at the message header information below, how would one
KD be able to tell if the message was:

KD1. Sent only to me, or

KD2. Also sent to others via BCC?

1. You can't - that's why they call it Bcc!
^
It means you can't tell if it was sent to anyone else.

2. This sounds like a virus message 'subject' line.

Unfortunately very impossible unless one of three things happen... the
client is badly written, and shows BCC headers... Outlook is badly
developed... but not *that* badly. The other is a mess up at the mail
server end... and the headers get included. The final is if you have
access to the mail logs on ms-smtp-01.texas.rr.com :)

There's a great little program called eCleaner that'll do this in a
couple of mouse clicks. You copy what you want to clean, open
eCleaner and click on the appropriate icon (a with a circle and
slash through it). It takes out the and copies the cleaned-up
version to clipboard.

Re: Language-based template

2003-03-04 Thread Januk Aggarwal
Hello Luc,

On Tuesday, March 4, 2003 at 18:23 GMT +0100, clairvoyants were
mystified when Luc [L] conjured:

JA =[Begin Sample Quasi-template]=
JA %IF:'some condition'='Russian identifier

L I was looking for this a long time but i still have a question: what
Lhow should i use the 'some condition' ?

The only way this will work is if there is something common in all
Russian messages, but not in any English message. Perhaps it is a
character set, or some X-header. Likewise, if there is something
common for all English messages that is never in a Russian message,
again you'd be ok.

Once we have something like that, then you can use a regular
expression (or someother macro) and compare it to what I called the
Russian Identifier.

Of course if you can't find some common difference for the two
languages, you'd have to apply the appropriate template manually or
use AB templates as Luc suggested.
