The default is that it's turned off. With a log file of 500 MB I'd
suggest you turn it off and delete the log file. Protocol logging is
account specific, so check all of your accounts.

The imgfiles folder has the same issue - the stuff never goes away. I
have a batch file to just clean them out.

IAW> What are these cache files and what is the point in keeping them?

Stuff that TB needs to save as a file before they're processed any
further. And there's no reason whatsoever that you should save them.
TB tends to get faster with an empty cache folder.

And an option in Message Maintenance to clean cached files for

I don't know why but it's getting longer on TB! (even up to 1 minute)

This occurred when Vista was rolled out. The idea was to inhibit user
files from being created or modified in certain "system" directories
like Program Files. I had to move two third-part application from
Program Files to Documents (nee My Documents). [Well, I did not have
to choose Documents; I could have created some new directory, but this
was the directory which was backed up nightly, so it was very
convenient.]

Over here the cache folder contains only old files and those are
bunches of the same dates. So I think that TB kills files when they're
not used anymore or when the TB session ends, but that it doesn't
happen when TB is killed via the taskmanager.
In July and August I had that happen quite a lot with the alpha run
and I've got lots of groups of files from those months in my cache
folder.

Is it possible my problem with the IMAP inbox could be
related to the cache ..?

Over time I am discovering things about this. The filters
will no longer run on that inbox, and the 'delete' button
doesn't work on it at all, the delete key on the keyboard
does work sporadically, and I can read and answer mails
from the trash folder. The keyword is 'sporadically'
however; it doesn't work every time.

But I really do need a fix for this.

I flush it every night since it never seems to do it. I made a batch
file because I am lazy :)

If you use IMAP, right-click on the folder and select Properties (or
Alt-Enter.) Then click on the Clear cache now button.

Otherwise, I suggest you describe the problems in a little more
detail.

I don't know of any The Bat! specific cache; however, The Bat! does
use your temporary directory extensively. Open your %TEMP% director
(Start/Run/"%TEMP%"/OK) and delete any folders the BAT in their names.

Or perhaps your are referring to the index. To aid in accessing
messages, The Bat! creates an index of the message base containing
useful information about each message. It this becomes corrupt, your
message lists my not work properly. If you close The Bat! and delete
the .TBI index in the proper folder in your data directory, the index
will be re-created, hopefully fixing any problems you have. For
example, if you are having trouble with the folder "List Messages" in the
account "[EMAIL PROTECTED]", you would delete the file "[EMAIL PROTECTED] Messages\MESSAGES.TBI".
