Hi group, I want to create a filter rule which does the following: Every not-gpg-signed email will get an automatic generated answer. Exceptions: - some guys from my contacts can be left out because they use bloody webmailer anyway which makes it harder for them to install and use GPG (they are not very familiar with computers). I think those guys have to be added manually which is what I have already done. Maybe a group could be a better solution? - Newsletter etc. - I try to capture them by looking at the topic newsticker and newsletter. But I am not sure whether I get all of them. - Amazon, ebay etc - IIRC they do not send information emails with newsletter topic. How can I get them? - Some other mass mails with more than say 5 recipants. Any chance to capture them? Maybe there are some more exceptions, but I hope to identify them soon. Any suggestions? Thanks in advance. -- Best wishes, Harald Current version is 3.99.27.2 | 'Using TBUDL' information: http://www.silverstones.com/thebat/TBUDLInfo.html
Re: Filter questions
Hello REZK945, I want to create a filter rule which does the following: Every not-gpg-signed email will get an automatic generated answer. I'm not familiar with gpg or pgp, etc., but I assume there must be something unique to those messages. An specific header field, or textt within the body. Let's assume the uniqueness is -BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE- in the body. You would need a filter with condition: Text .does not contain. -BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE- and with Action 'Send automatic reply'. For my explanations below, lets call this filter 'GPG Filter' Exceptions: My suggestion would be to NOT include exceptions in the same filter with .AND NOT. conditions, but to set up a separate filter for each exception. Much more clear and easier to manage. Your filter structure should be: Exception 1 Exception 2 ... GPG Filter For this structure to work, nonre of the filter should have the 'Continue processing with other filters' option selected. - some guys from my contacts can be left out because they use bloody webmailer anyway which makes it harder for them to install and use GPG (they are not very familiar with computers). I think those guys have to be added manually which is what I have already done. Maybe a group could be a better solution? Yes, I thing using an AB Groups is a much better idea. Exception 1 Filter Address groups groupname contains sender - Newsletter etc. - I try to capture them by looking at the topic newsticker and newsletter. But I am not sure whether I get all of them. Exception 2 filter Subject contains newsticker .OR. Sublect contains newsletter - Amazon, ebay etc - IIRC they do not send information emails with newsletter topic. How can I get them? This would be your 'Exception 3' filter, and you must look for something unique in those messages. Perhaps the domain of the sender?. If so: Exception 3 filter Header field From: contains @amazon.com .OR. Header field From: contains @ebay.com - Some other mass mails with more than say 5 recipants. Any chance to capture them? Maybe with something like: Recipient match RegExp But I am not at all familiar with Regular Expressions to suggest one. Sorry. Maybe there are some more exceptions, but I hope to identify them soon. Just add a new filter before the GPG one. Any suggestions? Thanks in advance. Hope mine are of some help. -- Best regards, Miguel A. Filter Questions
Hello Everyone, I would like to set up a filter to copy all incoming emails arriving in a specific account to a new folder or ideally virtual folder provided the sender's email is already in the original folder (ie. use the filter to notify me that an incoming email is from a known source as opposed to be a brand-new sender). Is this possible? Also, when I fiddled with the folders, I set up a virtual folder linked to the original folder. This now shows all the emails from the original as I had not yet set up any filter. How can I get rid of it now. I am afraid deleting it will delete all original emails too, something I don't want to do? -- Best regards, Tom using TheBat! 3.98.4 on XP Current version is 3.98.04 | 'Using TBUDL' information: http://www.silverstones.com/thebat/TBUDLInfo.html

Is this possible? Yes, it is possible in several ways. Perhaps the easiest and most straight forward way would be that you add your 'known sources' to the address book. Then, you can make Active the Known Incoming filter that is included by default by TB in the Sorting Office when an account is created. This way, messages from 'known sources' will be moved to Inbox-Known folder and the rest will just stay in normal Inbox. If you want to keep messages from 'known sources' in a separate folder for each, you can modify the action in Known filter and use the %FromName or %ABFromName macros for the folder name instead of 'Inbox-Known'. Also, when I fiddled with the folders, I set up a virtual folder linked to the original folder. This now shows all the emails from the original as I had not yet set up any filter. How can I get rid of it now. I am afraid deleting it will delete all original emails too, something I don't want to do? NO problem. If you delete a Virtual Folder the messages that were _shown_ (not stored) in it will stay in whatever real folder they were actually in. -- Best regards, Miguel A. Furthermore some filters (especially the more complex ones) acted a bit different than what might have been expected. However on the beta list we see a lot of improvement. (And every now and then a bit of regression.) SVD It seems some messages get filtered based on a rule which I SVD already altered before the upgrade. I cannot verify which filter SVD rule it uses, it concerns a Read messages filter and apparently SVD these aren't logged. Currently your only option seems is to check your read filters one by one whether they could have caused your problems. Especially for vread filters this should be easy, because of them being converted with their source folder present. (I think to remember something like that, don't use read filters myself) Checking your filters won't hurt anyway. After the upgrade I've done some weeding on filters that I didn't use anymore. (unsubbed mailing lists and so on) and done some re-sculpting of filters using the possibilities of the NFS (no more 'dot in headers and sender in AB group', but only 'sender in AB group') SVD This leads to my second question: SVD The incoming mail filter actions are logged in the account log. But is it SVD not possible to log all the other kinds of filter actions (read, sent, etc.) SVD as well? I think that would be a nice feature SVD I am using The Bat! about 4.5 years now and my filter collection has become SVD quite large. Sometimes I am puzzled which filter it is using, then a logfile SVD would be helpful. Another option would be to regularly check your sorting office, carefully fine tuning it and cutting dead wood. I'm doing that at least twice a year and generally I know what filter caught a message when I'm seeing something unexpected. I guess that's because I strive to keep my filters as simple as possible, and I keep my 86 incoming filters structured together, first mailing lists, then AB groups the the rest and I try to keep them mutually exclusive, so the sequence doesn't matter a lot. (Totally mutually exclusive can't be done, since I've got some contacts in multiple AB groups and I've got filters for almost all of them.) SVD Third question (also about the NFS): SVD When using Address groups in a filter rule, is manually typing the name of SVD the group the only way to select it? In the old filter system you could just SVD select it from a dialog box. And what if I want to select multiple groups? SVD Do I type Group1+Group2 or Group1,Group2 or ... ? Multiple groups should be done as: bsv+bsvbestuur+bsvintern+bsvextern I've checked this by reverting to an older version of TB (still using the OFS) created a new filter with multiple AB groups, moved my account.srb (NFS file) to a save location, upgraded back and checked the new filter. I guess that would be a way to create them. ;-) Create a new old filter convert it, paste the filter to a text editor, close TB, restore the account.srb open TB and paste your new filter from the text editor. I suppose typing the handles is easier. SVD Lot of questions... I hope you can help me. SpamCop Filter Questions
Howdy, I've been trying to follow last week's thread on setting up SpamCop filters. Have a couple of questions related to the SpamCop filters on Mark's FAQ site: 1. In the first filter, where can I find out what the values in the Actions line mean (e.g., faMarkRead,faNewMsg,faExport, faoExportOver, faoExportKludges, faoManualOnly, faoHotKey,faoSaveUnix)? 2. In the second filter, the instructions talk about changing the name and password info in the SaveTemplate line (You will have to change the name40domain.com:password text to be your account name and password.). I set up a free account for reporting spam on SpamCop but I am not a paying member. Do I need to be a paying member to make this second filter work? A couple of filter questions
L Should I dump Outlook 2000?: I switched last week and love it. Mail archive from Outlook2k via Outlook Express 5 and then into TB worked fine, contacts cobbled across via CSV files eventually. There are a couple of things I have not been able to - 1. Can't find the Maintenance mode for backup restore - where is it??Is it not there because I am in standalone mode maybe? Do I care since it seems to me I can just copy the directories anyway? 2. Can't see how to use filters like InAddrGroup: friends in an Incoming Filter, where would that string go? And where can I find the list of variables like InAddrGroup (which I only know about from an earlier posting) oh, and 3. I have set up 2 POP3 accounts, with one doing a selective download (which alone was worth switching from Outlook believe me!) then diverting all surviving mail to my main identity's Inbox. This in turn runs some Incoming filters to run highlight colours, distribute into mailing-list folders and so on. Thing with this is the filters don't seem to always run until I do a manual re-filter. Do the Incoming Filters only work reliably when downloading from the server directly into that Inbox? Many thanks for any answers you might wish to provide! I've already spent several hours configuring and tweaking TB and I'm very nearly content! -- Alan mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] 07 January 2002 -- Archives : http://tbudl.thebat.dutaint.com Moderators : mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] TBTech List: mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Unsubscribe: mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Latest Vers: 1.53d FAQ: http://faq.thebat.dutaint.com

You can skip the 'reliable'. Incoming filters only work when downloading from the matching account. This is rumoured to be changed in a next version, but I don't know how long that'll be. -- Groetjes, Roelof -- Archives : http://tbudl.thebat.dutaint.com Moderators : mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] TBTech List: mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Unsubscribe: mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Latest Vers: 1.53d FAQ: http://faq.thebat.dutaint.com
