[tw5] Re: Is there a fairly minimal workflow to import pages from Roam into TiddlyWiki?

2020-05-04 Thread Yoni Balkind
By "tags" I refer to every link within a page which could be in the form of
internal link or #internal-link (@Saq your understanding is correct)

So in my case I want to publish every page that has a link publish
and/or #publish
@Riz - the issue of children / parent items is moot. I am referring to a
page that contains a link within its body text.

Pages already have titles so no need to treat the created time as the title

@Mark S, blocks should just be treated as normal body text.. so if there
are 3 blocks in a page those would all just go into the text block as
paragraphs within the Tiddly. I suppose I need to dig into the Roam JSON
structure to check if this is a problem. Not sure if Roam separates each
block into a different item within the JSON file..

Re: [tw5] Re: Notion encourages busy work

2020-05-04 Thread 'Peter Buyze' via TiddlyWiki
Thanks David.
I sniffed at Idea Stew a while ago and at 1st sight liked it. Since I also take
notes when reading a book I'll take a more in-depth look at it, when I have a
better handle on TB which I prefer to Stroll, at this stage anyway.

BTW I have started incorporating your popup tooltip code for all internal
references without underlines in my TB - great stuff. One small hitch I bumped
into was the backlinks, but Birthe helped me to solve it -
https://groups.google.com/forum/#!msg/tiddlywiki/MyHhAp7ag6I/KOftL0BoAQAJ
Thanks for some very beautiful work that makes TW even more attractive.

Re: [tw5] Re: Transclusion in popups

2020-05-04 Thread 'Peter Buyze' via TiddlyWiki
Yes, that did the trick. Before starting this thread I did try

bla bla<$transclude
tiddler="Tiddler 2" mode="block"/>
and

bla bla<$transclude
tiddler=Tiddler 2 mode="block"/>
i.e. without the quotation marks around the
but I did not try your suggestion because I thought the position at the
beginning (where I have bla bla) was only meant for text because the bit at the
end where you suggest is for the tiddler to be linked to.

Oh well, I learned something again.
Many thanks, Birthe.

We could probably

2020-05-04 Thread Saq Imtiaz
@Yoni @Anne-Laure

Here is something to play with for importing from Roam to understand what
is possible, though please don't expect too much as I've only had about ten
minutes to work on this.

https://saqimtiaz.github.io/sq-tw/roam-import.html

How do tags work on Roam? Does it have tags? As far as I can tell from a
quick glance, #tag is actually just a link to tag
should #xyz be turned into a tag on that tiddler?

Saq

Re: [tw5] Re: Checkbox widget error with field is set as "list"

2020-05-04 Thread TonyM
With respect using a binary yes no that checkboxes create, on a field called
list or tags already offends the naming gods. Reusing what I would call core
fields for another purpose seems wrong as well.

With all due respect this is not a bug its a footnote.

If you must make use of core fields use them as designed.

Not withstanding my above comments I always thought it was sad that the core
used such valuable field names such as type and list when they could have had a
prefix e.g. tw-list but that's evolutionary design for you, we sometimes take
hostages of our own future.

Somewhat in jest

Re: [tw5] Re: Checkbox widget error with field is set as "list"

2020-05-04 Thread Saq Imtiaz
This is one of those weird quirks/bugs that we have since the list field
gets special treatment and is always treated as a list of values, that is
an array.
So "open" is the value we are setting, but ["open"] is what gets saved as
the list field. Since they aren't the same, checkbox will never get
rendered as checked.

Probably worth opening an issue for.

Also note that using the list field with a checkbox in this way will
replace the previous contents of the list, it will not add to them, so
using actions with listops operators is probably the way to go.

[tw5] Re: Does that TW is a Quine matter? YES.

2020-05-04 Thread Joshua Fontany
Imagine having a "Glosary" wiki that you have been updating. It has some
appropriate logic/plugins to handle diff-ing and flagging $:/Import
tiddlers for approval. You hand that Glossary out to 20 people, who drag
and drop it into their own "woking" wikis. They each make their own
changes/additions to the Glossary tiddlers, some maybe changing grammar,
some maybe adding hundreds of new terms. You collect copies of their wikis
and one at a time drop them onto your Master Wiki, which is setup to strip
out new Glossary changes and let you flag them for import or not. You clean
up/organize, and then send those 20 people an updated Glossary wiki. They
drop it on their local copies, and all your "approved" changes are there
instantly.

That's a pretty cool idea for software. "TWederation" would be allowing
this to happen with less manual intervention.

You definitely can't do that with any other data-storage file-type.

Best,
Joshua F

Re: [tw5] Re: Notion encourages busy work

2020-05-04 Thread David Gifford
Hi Peter

I was looking all over for this post in other threads. I finally found it
buried here.

Yes, I created a lot of confusion, didn't I? Here are descriptions that
will hopefully distinguish the terms:

1. TiddlyBlink: my original Roam imitator TiddlyWiki, created I think in
January or early February. https://giffmex.org/gifts/tiddlyblink.html

2. Idea Stew: a very slight adaptation of TiddlyBlink I created for me,
specifically for taking notes on reading. I get the impression not many
people are warming up to Idea Stew. So I haven't emphasized it. But I love
it and use it constantly. https://giffmex.org/gifts/ideastew.html

3. Stroll: my latest experiment, almost ready, that will in effect replace
TiddlyBlink. Much more like Roam than TiddlyBlink is, and with a tight
tutorial to get new people on board. Currently at
https://giffmex.org/experiments/stroll.experiment.html but will soon move
to https://giffmex.org/stroll/stroll.html

For good measure:

4. RoamWiki: Joe Kroese mashed TiddlyBlink and TiddlyMap together. Nice.
https://joekroese.github.io/tiddlyroam/

5. Drift: Tony K created a bi-directional links adaptation similar to
TiddlyBlink but that also lists tags and keywords in the references section
of tiddlers. Also nice. https://akhater.github.io/drift/

I hope this is helpful!

[tw5] Re: Stroll: last call for experimenting

2020-05-04 Thread David Gifford
Hi everyone

I just updated https://giffmex.org/experiments/stroll.experiment.html,
incorporating most of your changes.

*List of changes:*

List of changes accessible on the welcome page.

*Problem:*

I have Stroll set up to exclude system tiddlers from the list of references
at the bottom of tiddlers (for example see the [!is[system]] in the list
filter of
https://giffmex.org/experiments/stroll.experiment.html#%24%3A%2F.giffmex%2FViewTemplate%2Frefslinks).

But when I create a link to a non-system tiddler within a system tiddler,
the system tiddler shows up in the list of references at the bottom of the
non-systerm tiddler. Could someone look at my code and help me spot why
that is happening?

*Recommendations I did not do for this revision*

 - Ilya - Make it a plugin (will get someone to help me with this after
any more recommended changes are in place)
 - TonyM - option to disable it from going back to one story when only
one tiddler is open (Saq may wish to consider this for his plugin. That is
 not something I can do)
 - TonyM - Explain saving options better (I think this needs to happen in
 tiddlywiki.com)
 - Edgaras - Back and forth arrows to navigate to previously visited
tiddlers (Not sure how to do this, but also not keen on doing it for
Stroll. There might be a plugin for it here that you could add to Stroll:
 https://dynalist.io/d/zUP-nIWu2FFoXH-oM7L7d9DM#z=daq3QPYxpdVcebRQi2N6gc8A

*Thank you*

A HUGE thank you to everyone who made recommendations or spotted problems.
I asked you to be merciless, and you guys came through.

If you see anything else that needs fixing, please let me know. The revised
version may now have quirks of its own.

Blessings!

Thanks Jeremy,

I was going to propose to update the readme to indicate that Freelinks
wasn't totally case sensitive anymore, but in fact yes?

If I enable the option, and have a "Plop" tiddler, and in another if I
write "plop" and "Plop", both will have a freelink, OK that's the option.
But "plop" leads to a missing tiddler. Which isn't quite the same as
ignoring case (where then I didn't get it).

If the option could be an option on the first uppercase letter, that would
be fine for me :)

If you run an older TW, for example 5.1.21, it's to be expected, since the
URL of library work with the number version, and Freelink is available from
start 5.1.22.

I guess I never put more than 25 pictures in a TW, I didn't know there was
a limit filter ^^

You can directly write the name of your tiddler that contains the image in
the field.

You could use CSS rule, and apply it with from different conditions, for
example all tiddlers tag with specific tag or by tittle if you want.

The doc for CSS by data-tiddler-title is here :
https://tiddlywiki.com/#Custom%20styles%20by%20data-tiddler-title

If you haven't yet create your own CSS tiddler, create new one (whatever
name), and tag it with $:/tags/Stylesheet and add this for example :

[data-tiddler-title="CupcakeIpsum"] {
background: url(<>) ;
}

Here this apply to my tiddler called CupcakeIpsum, with yourimagetiddler image
tiddler. The macro datauri is used to call your image tiddler and to
interpret it correctly.

If you want by tag, here the doc :
https://tiddlywiki.com/#Custom%20styles%20by%20data-tags

Hi Sharat

Given that this is an old thread, I will assume you haven't seen the newer
threads about the new version I am almost done with, called Stroll.

Please try Stroll out, but only to experiment with. There are easier
instructions. TiddlyBlink has a couple of things that need fixing, so I
will look at what you are describing. By this weekend I hope to have Stroll
completely finished and ready to use. I will also update TiddlyBlink soon.

1. I have not signed the exe with a certification authority
2. It modifies browser behaviour.

For the next update, I ll see if I can sign it with a certificate and
publish to Microsoft App store. You guys can always scan the exe file with
any popular security softwares. The executable is located in
Appdata/Roaming/Timimi-Firefox or Timimi-Chrome

Here is the link to Kaspersky online scanner

You can upload the file here and they will scan it for you.

The example you used isn't part of a macro. It needs to be like this:

title: test-macro
tags: $:/tags/Macro

\define test("xx")
$xx$

Text here in a tiddler tagged: $:/tags/Macro doesn't influence macro

macro will be evaluated if you use it with <>

The global wiki-mode variable contains: ... as a
string

You can see all variables if you use: <> macro see:
https://tiddlywiki.com/#dumpvariables%20Macro%20(Examples)

In October 2017 I did a video series, where I did create a "Script / ToDo
Manager", which was requested in the GG. I did record 17 videos, that
basically explain every line of code, that has been created and a lot of
concepts, behind the whole app.

The code can be seen at:
https://wikilabs.github.io/editions/script-manager/

Open Right sidebar : More : System ... It's a bundle and not a plugin.

The intro thread was:
https://groups.google.com/forum/#!msg/tiddlywiki/_VQw8yIKWn8/G8TO8h6MCAAJ
which also contains a detailed overview, about the videos, and what is
shown. ...

The first post also contains the bundle version 0.0.3, which is part of the
edition linked above.

If you open the edition link, the first tiddler you see contains a
transclusion to
https://wikilabs.github.io/editions/script-manager/#%24%3A%2F_bundle%2Fwikilabs%2Fscript-manager%2Fscript-list-template

... which was intended to implement several macros.

In the end it turned out, that it just calls the main macro at the end of
the tiddler and is used as a transclusion instead.

There are some more -template tiddlers, which contain several macros and
directly call them. ... Other tiddlers are used as macros. ...

have fun!

2020-05-04 Thread Saq Imtiaz
Yes, time to hear about more interesting workflows than my own! Also I
think today, even though I tried not to, it became a bit too much telling
and not enough showing things on the screen.

Nominations:
Dave Gifford: It seems like there is a lot of interest around TiddlyBlink /
Stroll / similar adaptations. While I have been helping Dave Gifford with
the two story support, I still don't really have a clear vision of how this
would be used in a real world context and where the true value lies. Would
love to see Dave talking us through his workflow with it.

Seconding the nominations of Anne-Laure and Elise Springer as well. Would
love to see and hear more about how they are using TiddlyWiki and why.

That's true. Right now, if one tiddler is highlighted and you go on
scrolling with your mouse or page up / page down key and then press /e/
or /c/ nothing happens. If you press /j/ or /k/, the currently visible
tiddler gets highlighted because the previously highlighted tiddler

Hi,

For me it doesn't matter at all.

Quine is a word that had no meaning for me since I did look it up on
wikipedia.

In wikipedia there is a list of (sorry to say) useless code, that prints
useless code, which they call a Quine.

So calling TiddlyWiki a Quine may only be useful for developers with a high

For the rest of us, it may be "... code, that prints ... code"

Fair enough. Although, generating a static site could actually be summarized in
just three words: 'tiddlywiki --build static'

Customizing that process so that it splits the markup you wish, well, I gonna
wait for (or I'm gonna write) a tutorial for that. Markup currently being
generated is full of invisible buttons, etc.

Peter,

For me it works fine on tiddlyspot, if I have the necessary tiddlers. I do
need to write the link though, no link - no backlink.

Why do you expect at tooltip and a transclusion to link to anything?

Try writing:
*Tiddler 2*<$transclude
tiddler="Tiddler 2" mode="block"/>

Re: [tw5] Re: Transclusion in popups

2020-05-04 Thread 'Peter Buyze' via TiddlyWiki
Mat, in my local wiki the tooltip popups work fine, I have no complaints about
them. I don't know why they don't work in Tiddlyspot but it does not matter
because my issue is not that.

My issue is that because the reference from Tiddler 1 to Tiddler 2 resides in
this code
YYY<$transclude tiddler="ZZZ"
mode="block"/>
Tiddler 2 does not show the backlink to Tid 1 at the bottom of Tid 2.

If there is a conventional reference to Tid 2, i.e. Tiddler 2, as is done
in Tiddler 3, then the backlink works as it should. For completeness sake I
have also included a reference from Tid 3 to Tid 2 with the tooltip
transclusion code. If you delete that but leave the Tiddler 2 reference,
you'll see that Tid 2 still shows the Tid 3 backlink.

Peter,

In tiddler 1 you have no links in the tiddler, you have a tooltip.

[tw5] Re: Transclusion in popups

2020-05-04 Thread Mat
1) to get the tooltip popup to work I assume there must be some stylesheet
for this. Did you include this?
2) I can think of no reason why the tooltips and the backlinks should not
work simultaneously, i.e in the same wiki.
3)...However, do you mean that you want the backlinks to show* inside the
tooltip popup*? If that is the case, the popup must also show the backlinks
viewtemplate. However, the viewtemplate must "think" that it is inside the
correct tiddler. This is done with the TiddlerWidget. So your code would be
something like:

bla bla

<$transclude tiddler="Tiddler 2" mode="block"/>
<$tiddler tiddler="Tiddler
2">

2020-05-04 Thread 'Peter Buyze' via TiddlyWiki
If you are referring to the 3 tiddlers on Tidlyspot, then I can only say that
the popups don't work in Tiddlyspot, for whatever reason. The popups do work on
my local TW.

In any case, my point is not the popups but the backlinks that are no longer
identified.

[tw5] Reviving TiddlyWiki Hangouts

2020-05-04 Thread Jeremy Ruston
I’m tentatively reviving TiddlyWiki Hangouts with a new weekly series of
pre-recorded conversations with invited guests. The format is an extended
screencast with talking heads in the corner, and the intention is to illuminate
how people use and personalise TiddlyWiki.

Saq Imtiaz and I made the first recording this morning, which I’ll publish
shortly in a separate thread. The purpose of this thread is to ask for
nominations of guests you’d like to see featured. They don’t need to be a
developer, just somebody who might have something interesting to show and talk
about.

Feel free to nominate people here, or to drop me a personal email at jeremy
(dot) ruston (at) gmail (got) com. Any other comments or suggestions to improve
the hangouts are most welcome.

Best wishes

Jeremy.

If it's a Node.js Tiddly server, then it should work, but GitHub pages are
single HTMLs whose do note have WebServer API, thus you cannot use this script

Re: [tw5] Re: Freelinks plugin

2020-05-04 Thread 'Peter Buyze' via TiddlyWiki
Open Control Panel
Click on tab Plugins
Click on blue button "Get more plugins"
Scroll down the list till you find Freelink
Click on the small green button "install"
How to useLet's say you have a tiddler entitled Tid 1
Let's say you also have a tiddler entitled tid 2

Now, if you put text in Tid one, and that text includes the words tid 2, TW
will show it as a clickable link. So, Freelinks picks up links on the basis of
tiddler titles.
Note: in version 5.1.22 Freelinks is case sensitive, and from 5.1.23 that
becomes an option.

I hope this helps.

[tw5] Transclusion in popups

2020-05-04 Thread 'Peter Buyze' via TiddlyWiki
@David Gifford:

Dave, many thanks for this very nice plug-in, which I installed, and then
started to change my TW's internal links with the HTML code

YYY<$transclude tiddler="ZZZ"
mode="block"/>

I stopped after doing a couple of tiddlers, however, because I noticed that the
backlinks are not shown anymore.

I have put 3 test tiddlers here: http://peterspottiddly.tiddlyspot.com/

In Tiddler 1 I put the transclude code referring to Tid 2. On Tid 2 there is no
backlink to Tid 1.
In Tid 3 I also put the same transclude code referring to Tid 2, PLUS a
conventional Tiddler 2 link. It is the conventional link that is shown in
Tid 2 as a backlink. If you delete that conventional link in Tid 3, you'll see
Tid 2 no longer has a backlink to 3 shown.

Conclusion
The transclude code for tooltips works fine (not on Tiddlyspot BTW), but it
means no backlinks. If I want to keep the backlinks too I will have to also
put, e.g. at the bottom of the tid, a conventional link to the referring tid
(as per Tid 3).

Is what I am saying right or is there another way to preserve backlinks while
also making use of the tooltips?

[tw5] How to install TiddlyDesktop in Ubuntu

2020-05-04 Thread Paco Rivière
I did not find this topic in my previous search on this forum, nor in the
TW site.

Here are my instructions:

*Installing TiddlyDesktop on Ubuntu*
Tested on Ubuntu 18.04 LTS, 64 bits
Download the last release from
https://github.com/Jermolene/TiddlyDesktop/releases
Unzip it in a new folder on your home folder, for example:

/home/{user}/TiddlyDesktop

Where {user} is your linux username

Check /home/{user}/TiddlyDesktop/nw has executing permisions: sudo chmod +x
nw

Make the following symlink 1):
:~$ sudo ln -s /home/{user}/TiddlyDesktop /usr/bin/nw

And you can run:
:~$ ~/TiddlyDesktop$ ./nw

That's all.

*To have TiddlyDesktop on Ubuntu favourite launchbar (optional)*
On the terminal (Ctrl-T), do:
:~$ gedit ~/.local/share/applications/TiddlyDesktop.desktop

And paste this text on the editor:

[Desktop Entry]
Type=Application
Encoding=UTF-8
Name=TiddlyDesktop
Comment=TiddlyWiki on your Desktop
Exec=/home/{user}/TiddlyDesktop/nw
Icon=/home/{user}/TiddlyDesktop/images/app_icon.png
Terminal=false

Save and close the editor

Give execution permisions to the file TiddlyDesktop.desktop

*How to install it in Mac:*

[tw5] Background images

2020-05-04 Thread PWL
Hello all,

So I went to put a picture in the back ground of my wiki yesterday, and
found that the drop down menu only give the first 25 pictures in the wiki
as options, try as I might I couldn't get the picture I wanted to appear on
the menu. What am I doing wrong?
The other half of my question is, I couldn't find an option to add an image
as the background for individual tiddly's. Is there a way to do this?

Thx for your help in advance.

2020-05-04 Thread 'Mark S.' via TiddlyWiki
The first thing to do is to find out if your executable has been tampered
with. When I extract the executable timimi.exe on linux, I get the
following MD5 hash

ca8399d02e538ca5d2fcc5e553f2779b

There are online MD5 generators in case you don't have one on your system.

I apologize. The sync filter is actually a core syncer feature, not a
plugin syncadaptor feature.

Add " -$:/StoryList" to the end of $:/config/SyncFilter. Make sure you
include the space in between.

[tw5] Announcing: Combine TiddlyWiki5 and search engine (Google) results by a userscript

2020-05-04 Thread bimlas
Dear all,

Have you ever been looking for something on Google and when you found the
answer, you wanted to make a note of it, did you realize that you already
had the answer in your TiddlyWiki? To avoid these situations by integrating
TiddlyWiki search results to Google, use this userscript with TiddlyWiki
(at least 5.1.22 version) on Node.js.

Because the script searches in multiple TiddlyWikis at once, it can also be
used to search in all your wikis.

2020-05-04 Thread Arlen Beiler
Hello, yes this is expected behavior and it has been in tiddlywiki for many
versions. The TiddlyWeb adapter plugin specifies the sync filter I believe.
In any case you seen you simply need to add " -$:/StoryList" to the end of
the active sync filter. This problem is only related to the server side of
things. Single file wikis do not use this mechanism.

[tw5] Re: Is there a fairly minimal workflow to import pages from Roam into TiddlyWiki?

2020-05-04 Thread TonyM
I am not using roam but do you have other export choices?

json html text xlsx csv and now xml are possible formats to use into tiddly
wiki.

Also can you map objects content and fields into tiddlywiki?, I expect so but
this needs to be done.

Regards
Tony
