Yes, I managed as well by manually editing. In fact I took a working eduroam
settings-file from my laptop, removed the mac-address, and moved it to the
ubuntu phone. Indeed chmod +600 was necessary.
Also, strangely, I had to change eap to ttls and phase2-auth to pap.
Now it works.

Since reporting this I've read the design guidelines. I note that the
turn off button is on the right and green, and the snooze button is
on the left and white.

Can you confirm that you have wpasupplicant 2.1-0ubuntu7 ? I. e. you
should see
$ systemctl cat wpa_supplicant.service |grep Before
Before=network.target
Your journal looks like it would stop wpa_supplicant before
network.target.

Now that it looks like the package is fixed for Vivid, are there plans
to backport to Trusty? and do we know when that may be?

Can't replicate this on Meizu - the sound indicator icon changes as
expected. Seems to be a bq specific bug?
So the desired functionality would be to change the volume indicator to
the one with the cross next to it, when phone is in silent mode.
