I can confirm the problem appearing out of nowhere on Ubuntu 16.04

I have removed the duplicate status as the linked ticket is now marked
as "Fix Released" but with an up-to-date system I'm still able to
reproduce the problem (I was also wondering a bit why the other ticket
was only posted against aptitude).

no, that's not what we have (xserver was patched instead) and 16.04
won't get it, but 16.04.2 will with the lts backport stack
