Gitlab as a code-hosting service has a 'C' grade. The actual software is free software, which is what Trisquel runs on its servers. Don't jump to conclusions prematurely. Also, it is not so bad to host software on Gitlab, in my opinion. The site can mostly be used without running JavaScript,

That's not quite the full story. The "restricted" and "multiverse" repositories contain proprietary software, and "restricted" is officially supported. But it is true that it is easy to use Ubuntu without any proprietary software.
