I myself use Linphone and Firefox Hello- they're both fantastic and Free
Software.
(I'm pretty sure Firefox Hello is Free Software- it comes with Abrowser and

Replicant works with a few 'smart' phones to make fully free computers with
phones. Wifi and videos don't work, though, but it's good enough.

Licensing? Well, it's all libre, except for the BIOS, and it works with
Trisquel out of the box. I'm not sure if that's what you meant, though.
And I use it for home use and such- it's my primary computer.
I'd recommend installing the software from source or DEB files instead.
If it's possible, you could also use Tor/Proxychains/VPN.
You wouldn't want to just say GNU like Trisquel GNU, because that doesn't
give the Linux kernel the credit it deserves.
GNU/Linux is the best we can do, for now.

I had to go through some scary things to get Trisquel set up on a friend's
laptop, much like you do.
The BIOS settings threw some scary Warning messages, but when I disabled
the option that's cryptically named, the USB worked.
Clear Secure Boot Keys is the option you want. It'll let you use
Seconded. It's not 'complete' (Hence why it's not on the FSF-approved distro
list), but it's still great. Not the most user-friendly distro, so don't hand
a CD out to a friend unfamiliar with GNU/Linux.
(I'm in the dust, sorry- the package manager and the Guix distribution are

As stated above, your AMD graphics will probably not work perfectly, like 3D
acceleration.
I'd recommend replacing the AMD graphics with Intel graphics- you can do so
for pretty cheap.

For wifi, if it doesn't work, you can get a USB wifi

Most people won't care about the differences, but when I used GNOME the
differences were glaring.

For the Trisquel laptop, install Popcorn Time. It'll allow her to ditch
