Only  5 1/2 hours of scripted and only one sitcom, but no game shows.  
Strange.  Here we go:

Monday
8 p.m.: ESPN Monday Night Football (select weeks, simulcast on The 
Worldwide Leader with the Manningcast on the Deuce--no indication how many 
games and what will air the other weeks)

Tuesday
8 p.m.: Dancing With the Stars (simulcast pn Disney+, we believe)
10 p.m.: HIGH POTENTIAL--In this Americanization of a French series, 
Kaitlin "Sweet Dee" Olson plays a mom with an exceptional talent for 
solving crimes. OK. In-house from ABC Signature.

Wednesday
8 p.m.: THE GOLDEN BACHELORETTE--About as much a new show as "Celebrity 
Jeopardy!" and "Celebrity Wheel" were, but hey. The obvious extension of 
this version of the franchise, of course, but remember how the marriage for 
"The Golden Bachelor" turned out. From Warners Horizon, of course.
9:30 p.m.--Abbott Elementary (the only sitcom in the fall lineup--"The 
Connors" will wait for mid-season for their last season)
10 p.m.: SCAMANDA--It's that true crime everybody loves--based on a 
podcast, it's the story of Amanda Riley, a good Christian mom who lies 
through her teeth on social media and has a secret to hide. Officially from 
the news department, but actually produced by the reality arm of Lionsgate.

THE NEW TGIT WITH RYAN MURPHY:
8 p.m.: 9-1-1
9 p.m.: DOCTOR ODYSSEY--Joshua Jackson from "Dawson's Creek" plays a cruise 
ship doctor., or what "The Lve Boat" would be like if Doc Brinker did 
actual medical work. From Murphy's once and future home at Disney's 20th.
10 p.m.: Grey’s Anatomy (the last remnant of Shondaland on the Thursday 
lineup)

Friday
8 p.m.: Shark Tank
9 p.m.: 20/20

Saturday
7:30 p.m.: Saturday Night College Football

Sunday
7 p.m.: America’s Funniest Home Videos
8 p.m.: The Wonderful World of Disney (once again, you could watch those 
movies on Disney+ with no commercials, if you're on the commercial-free 
tier)

Only the CW is left now.

[TV orNotTV] CNN Veteran Taking Over at God Bless C-SPAN

After 34 years at CNN, most recently as Washington bureau chief and head of 
the Spanish-language operation, Sam Feist will become only the third entity 
to be CEO of the not-for-profit cable public affairs channel as of July, 
replacing the duo of Rob Kennedy and Susan Swain, who replaced founder 
Brian Lamb in 2012:

One of the things that I believe Feist should make a priority is getting 
C-SPAN on the FAST streamers like Pluto, Amazon Freevee, Roku, etc. With

[TV orNotTV] Fox Fall Annotated

Two--count 'em--two nights of live-action scripted in the fall schedule, an 
unusual move for a net that was saying before the strikes that unscripted 
was the future (unless they owned the show, and I think you can figure out 
what's coming)--here we go:

MONDAY:
8-9 p.m. — “9-1-1: Lone Star"  (the view was that this show would join the 
franchise mothership from Disney's 20th over at ABC, but I guess that's not 
going to happen)
9-10 p.m.  - RESCUE HI-SURF--John Wells is not exactly the guy you would 
expect to do a new version of "Baywatch" (after all, his resume includes 
"The West Wing" and "E/R"), but here it is, set in Hawaii on the infamous 
north shore of Oahu. Yes, the actresses are well-endowed, but so are the 
men. Fox co-produced with Wells' home at Warners. BTW, this will be Fox's 
post-Super Bowl attraction.

TUESDAY:
8-9 p.m. — “Accused”
9-10 p.m. — MURDER IN A SMALL TOWN--Considering that this title or 
something like it has been used for a lot of shows, including a Fox reality 
shows, we'll guess it might get changed. It's produced in the Great White 
North (but no Canadian net yet) and based on L.R. Wright's Karl Alberg 
novels, it's about a former cop (Rossif Sutherland, Keifer's brother and 
Donald's son) who moves to a small town to get away from it all. Nice try. 
Kristin Kreuk of "Smallville"'s also in the cast, co-produced by Fox with 
Canucks Sepia Films.

WEDNESDAY:
8-9 p.m. — “The Masked Singer”
9-10 p.m. — “The Floor”

THURSDAY:
8-9 p.m. — “Hell’s Kitchen”
9-10 p.m. — “Special Forces: World’s Toughest Test”

FRIDAY:
Replacing "Smackdown!", for those who like sport there's sport (college 
football/basketball, UFC)

SATURDAY:
And for those who don't like sport, there's more sport.

SUNDAY:
7-7:30 PM — NFL Overrun
7:30-8 PM — The OT / Cartoon reruns
8-8:30 PM — The Simpsons (is it the last season for the Disney-owned 
show--again?)
8:30-9 PM -- UNIVERSAL BASIC GUYS--A cartoon about the Hoagie brothers, 
victims of automation who are getting $3,000 a month in a basic income 
program and need to prove they're worth it. It's already been renewed for a 
season (WTF, Fox?) and is from Fox and Sony, with Fox-owned Bento Box doing 
the animation.
9-9:30 PM — Bob’s Burgers (see "The Simpsons")
9:30-10 PM — Krapopolis

Mid-season sees the return of "Family Guy" (see above), "Animal Control," 
"The Great North," "Grimsberg," "The Cleaning Lady," "Alert:  Missing 
Victims Unit" and these new shows:

DOC--An Americanization of an Italian series of the same title, where the 
great Molly Parker ("Deadwood," among other shows) plays a chief doctor at 
a Minneapolis hospital who has just had memory of the last eight years of 
her life erased and must now try to regain it.  Sony's producing with Fox, 
the format is owned by Fremantle, who has been trying to seriously shake 
off its reputation as a game show and reality house lately.

GOING DUTCH--Denis Leary is back as a loudmouthed army colonel who as 
punishment for things he shouldn't have said is reassigned to an obscure 
base in the Netherlands with a Michelin-star commissary and the only 
fromagerie in this man's army. And the base commander is his estranged 
daughter.  In-house one-camera sitcom.

EXTRACTED--What sounds like a "Survivor" ripoff, the gimmick here is that 
the contestants are not in charge of their destiny, but isn't that what 
usually happens in post?  From Sony and Fox.

THE REAL FULL MONTY--D-listers bear all for charity in this one-shot 
inspired by the film and musical and originating from a 2017 show in the UK 
that I assume Adam never saw. In-house, one of the producers is Anthony 
Anderson, who is also participating. As a noted television Monty used to 
say, big deal.

And I assume the usual game show and unscripted suspects may pop up during 
the year (most of them produced in Ireland). I guess Kimmel's back tomorrow 
to do his annual smackdown at the ABC upfront.

[TV orNotTV] 'Satire is What Closes on a Saturday NIght'

Back in 1975, a more rebellious Lorne Michaels and the like-minded Boomers 
who were creating "Saturday Night Live" had to be aware of George S. 
Kaufman's famous quip as they were preparing for what they were hoping as 
their new home for satire on television--49 years later, Kaufman may be the 
winner--in an interview with Chicago Tribune film critic MIchael Phillips, 
Anne Libera of The Second City says that satire is not working right now 
because it requires pain and "psychic or temporal distance," and we may 
have the pain right now, but we sure as hell don't have the distance:

In an interesting piece behind a paywall, the Ankler said that the very
expensive to run Eurovision song contest has kept going due only to
tradition and that if someone would propose it today, it would be turned
down in the wink of an eye. Of course, it was a much different beast in
1958, with everyone in formal wear singing in front of a house orchestra in
a concert hall and no dancers or flashy special effects--and only seven
contestants.  And it was reflecting the mainstream western European adult
sensibility of easy listening music (none of that American rock and roll).
Even in 1974, when ABBA basically began their international career at
Eurovision, the production on their hit song "Waterloo" was understated
compared to the overblown spectacle Eurovision has become--and the fall of
the eastern Soviet bloc has made a big difference in what the contest has
become.

Singer Eden Golan has been told not to leave her hotel in Malmo, Sweden, 
except for rehearsals and performances, as throngs outside are protesting 
Israel's presence in the annual song contest--the song was originally 
entitled "October Rain," but the Eurovision bosses rejected it as too 
controversial, so it was rewritten and retitled "Hurricane" (video of song 
in link)--Golan's rehearsal yesterday was interrupted by boos from the 
audience, although no boos were evident during today's semi-final heat 
telecast (I'm assuming that Sweden's SVT is not sweetening the audience 
response like some American reality comps)--she made it into the Saturday 
finals after an all-viewer vote (the finals are at 3 p.m. ET in the U.S. on 
Peacock), as did the Irish rock band Bambie Thug, who had to change their 
costumes on Tuesday's semi-final heat when it was found that Celtic writing 
on the costumes said "CEASE FIRE" and "FREEDOM FOR PALESTINE":

The European Broadcasting Union of pubcasters who organizes Eurovision has 
always maintained that the contest is apolitical and that Israel's

will also air this Tuesday on ESPN2 and ESPN+, but the decision to

All  Time:  Tom Brady," the reality TV star attempted to stand on the dais 
and do her part of the roast, but the audience greeted her with a chorus of

you will find out that the audience reception has been edited out. However,

[TV orNotTV] Did Fallon Cheat at 'Password?' No

There seems to be a furor on social media that on last Tuesday night's 
episode of NBC's reboot of "Password" Jimmy Fallon, co-producer of the 
reboot and regular celebrity guest (since his late-night shows have done 
"Password" as a regular bit), gave an illegal clue by saying "godmother" to 
get his partner to say "godfather." Uh, no (a clip is in the link):

It has been a rule from the Allen Ludden days that words that start 
similarly are acceptable clues for the password (the 
"grandmother/grandfather" syndrome).  I seem to recall that the home game 
even states as much in what is basically a cheat sheet for acceptable 
clues. And while I'm at it, doing voices on the clues has always been 
acceptable, like Fallon doing "family" in a Brando-ish voice as a clue. 
What's illegal and has always been is using gestures--and Keke Palmer 
caught Fallon in time when he was about to do Mafia boss gestures.  As much 
as we all hate Fallon, he was doing nothing that Dr. Reason A. Goodwin 
would have buzzed him on back in the day.

inappropriate conduct with men, airs Monday and Tuesday on the UK's 
commercial but not-for-profit Channel 4, and Spacey says he's going to

[TV orNotTV] CDub Back on WGN in Chicago

After an eight-year hiatus where it was on Fox-owned WPWR for three years 
and Weigel's WCIU for five years, the now-Nexstar-owned The CW will return 
to now-Nexstar-owned WGN in Chicago in September (WGN had been carrying CW 
live sports turned down by WCIU, including the LIV golf tour):

"Chicago's Very Own" was a charter affil of the CDub coming out of the 
merger of UPN and The WB in 2006--it dropped the net in 2016 in order to 
keep up a heavy live sports schedule (Cubs/White Sox/Bulls/Black Hawks) in 
prime time the network did not allow.  Four years later, the three latter 
teams went to NBC Sports Chicago and the Cubs started Marquee with 
Sinclair.   Despite the recent problems regional cable sports channels have 
been having, both NBCSC and Marquee seem not to be in crisis mode--but one 
wonders if WCIU will go after the live sports contracts if the channels go 
under. For now, WCIU will move the "The U" branding back to the main 
channel from their .2 subchannel and low-powered station WMEU and revert to 
being an independent.

God, I wish this show had at least one regular snarker on it to lay waste 
on the overblown BS which is supposed to be wink wink nudge nudge but 
isn't. I would love to see a host come out and say "good evening, ladies 
and gentlemen, and welcome to the Parade of D-listers." I have nothing 
against good, stupid fun, but the show should be more openly aware of what 
it is. I swear that the Usual Gang of Idiots, including the Brit who's 
filling in for NIcole Scherzinger, are all mainlining crystal meth before 
they go on the air and deliver their scripted material. My main interest is 
to see the performances and who's doing the show, but even if I watched the 
performances on YouTube I still have to bear the cutaway shots of the Usual 
Gang overreacting and the staged audience reaction shots.

I weaned myself off of Bill Maher--can I do it to "The Masked Singer?" (And 
in case you stayed away, Melissa, you can watch Clay and Ruben's 
performances as beets from the last few weeks on Hulu.)

schedule, who were hidden under credits like "creative consultant" and 
"segment producer," are now under a WGA contract with better pay and 
benefits, but considering the current state of cable TV, could it be 
possible that someone at Paramount Global will decide that there are more 
than enough episodes of the series for their purposes? Or, as is highly 
possible, Paramount is sold to someone else or either the old or new owners 
decide to get out of the dead end business of cable TV programming, could

producer Dan Schneider was will air Sun. Apr. 7 (and stream on Max and 
Discovery+ the next day) featuring several of the interviewees from the 
series talking with Soledad O'Brien about the response to the series (which 
revealed things about Schneider that have been known for years, but hey...):

And if certain podcasts and YouTube countdowners can be believed, it wasn't 
just Schneider and that acting coach at the First Network for Kids--Amber

was some creepiness going on their set, although perhaps not as bad. (I 
have to admit that I watched that show because a former Chicago actress I 
knew played the mom.)

The link says that this came up after a host of BBC Radio 4's "Today"
programme (no relation to or not to be confused with our "Today" show) said
"trans women, in other words, males" on the air in referring to a story
about whether biological males have an advantage in chess (they obviously
never saw "The Queen's Gambit"). Sounds like the guy was auditioning to
replace Piers Morgan on Rupert's TalkTV or one of the Tory politicians that
the government regulators say cannot host shows on GBNews anymore.

[TV orNotTV] CBS Announces First New Daytime Soap in 25 Years

The publicity has been about the fact that "The Gates" is the first daytime 
soap centered around Black characters since the 1989 NBC show 
"Generations," but more importantly, it is the first new daytime  soap 
since NBC premiered the rather gonzo "Passions" in 1999 (it went off in 
2008).  Even more importantly, it is a return to one of the two longtime 
pillars of daytime television (along with game shows) that have been 
reduced in recent years, with only three remaining on the networks (four if 
you count "Days of Our Lives" streaming on Peacock).  And it is the first 
new show in years from Procter & Gamble Productions, once the power 
producer of daytime soaps ("As the World Turns," "Guiding LIght," "Edge of 
Night," etc., etc.), but not active since "World" went off in 2010:

[TV orNotTV] God Bless C-SPAN CEOs Retiring After Decades With Channel

Rob Kennedy and Susan Swain have been co-CEOs at the beloved cable public 
affairs channel for the last 12 years following employment at the channel 
since the 80s (I also remember that Swain has hosted the channel's infamous 
call-in programs many times)--Kennedy leaves in May and will be replaced by 
finance VP Matt Deprey, Swain will be replaced by one of those "national 
searches" that have become common at NFPs in the search for racial 
diversity, she will stay through a transition period:

Kennedy and Swain had the challenges of the pandemic and the slow death of 
cable television to deal with in recent years (they don't ask for the 
outrageous carriage fees that the commercial outlets do), which makes me 
wonder why C-SPAN is not on the FAST streamers. It would seem to be a 
natural for the news tiers of your Pluto or Tubi to have the most neutral 
as possible of cable news/public affairs channels as part of the lineup.

[TV orNotTV] Straight White Male 'SEAL Team' Staffer Sues CBS for Discrimination with Help From Trumper

A former script coordinator for the CBS series is suing CBS Studios and 
parent Paramount Global, with the help of attorneys from the America First 
Legal Foundation, founded by former Trump staffer Stephen Miller, claiming 
that the bosses denied him a staff writer job and hired minorities and 
women with less experience instead, in accordance with diversity guidelines 
set by Paramount, and is asking for $500,000 and a court order giving him a 
production position on "SEAL Team" and barring future similar hiring

[TV orNotTV] Take That, Colbert! 'Tracker' Gets Renewed

The action series that was the post--Super Bowl attraction for CBS and 
target for several Stephen Colbert jokes (and I believe at least one Taylor 
Tomlinson joke) about CBS being CBS has been renewed for a second season:

Interestingly enough, the last post-Big Game scripted show, the Queen 
Latifah "Equalizer" reboot in 2021, the last time CBS had the game, also 
became a hit. In 2022, NBC ran Olympics coverage and Fox ran the second 
season of one of their quarterly Gordon Ramsay shows.  One wonders how 
Nickelodeon's lead-out to their Big Game coverage, a double pump of their 
new animated series "Rock Paper Scissors" (one episode being "The Fart Joke 
Episode"--yeah,  baby) did--and shouldn't the kids be in bed by 10:54? 
"Tracker" also ran after the game in Canada on CTV.

After hospitalization that put him out of commission for most of last year, 
Jamie Foxx and daughter Corrine will be on the flight to Shannon, Ireland 
airport to front a seventh season of the Fox music game show, which is

sexual predator Anthony Anderson and his walking sassy Black old woman

It's interesting that Australia seems to be the only country that runs land
acknowledgement statements in their TV show credits. Even the U.S. reality
comp "Come Dance With Me," which was taped in Melbourne and aired on CBS,
ran a land acknowledgement statement.  And the pubcaster ABC now runs the
First Nations name for the state they are telecasting in on their regional
newscasts in a graphic behind the anchor at the beginning of the program. I
am sure that the rightwing AM radio talk show hosts and the commentators on
the Murdoch family's Sky News (or Fox News Australia) are royally peeved.

That whole "tonight on" thing was a response to pressure from certain
people about too many shows having flashy teases that had nothing to do
with the rest of the show--basically, like James Bond movies. "Ellery
Queen" did "tonight on" very well, following the premise of the original
stories  you are challenged to come up with whodunit. It got replaced by
"previously on...", thanks to "Hill Street Blues."

Former Miami Herald restaurant critic Carlos Frias had taken over as host 
of WLRN's "Sundial" arts program two years ago and was fired along with his 
staff when the station said they wanted to put more money into their 
website news coverage--Frias has filed complaints with Florida and federal 
employment commissions, claiming that the Latino bosses at his station were 
telling him that he had "too many Latinos" as guests on his program, a 
strange accusation considering it's Miami, but if his bosses were going by 
the stereotype of the typical NPR listener as rich (unless they're

Greatly appreciated.  As I read your post I had already fired up "TDS" 
(which was recorded from Paramount Network, not COM, so I'm assuming 
Paramount did a zombie channel roadblock of "TDS" last night). I 
immediately stopped the DVR as the credits for "Titanic" were running at 
triple speed over the last scene. I then deleted and went to Paramount+.

attack on the "Sesame Street" Muppet beloved by present-day children but

to go on to plug "Curb Your Enthusiasm," comparing it to treatment 
Wheaton's father gave him as a child--the response has been predictably

Chicago Tribune TV critic Nina Metz, a huge supporter of the 22-episode 
once-a-week season that steamers seemed to be getting away from to be more 
like HBO (although as an avid ACAB person, she wouldn't mind if there

Masked Scheduler" Breckman about this, pointing out the recent report that 
the most popular shows on streaming are familiar TV (including that USA 
Network blue sky show starring the Duchess of Sussex)--Breckman replies

But it has to be pointed out that Swift left country music years ago, as
has some other artists, notably Maren Morris (who had a crossover hit with
a dance music DJ). Swift has never said anything about it as far as I know,
but Morris in a New Yorker article pretty much said that the conservatism
of the country music industry--politically and otherwise--is why she chose
to go elsewhere for her muse.

[TV orNotTV] Fox--Where Shows Get Renewed Sooner

"Animal Control," the Joel McHale workplace comedy that is one of only 
three scripted live-action series on the current Fox schedule, won't begin 
its second season until next month (with a lead-in in the weakening "Masked 
Singer"), but Fox has already given it a renewal for a third 
season--remember, live-action series don't have the long lead time animated 
series have, so this could bite Fox in the--donkey:

For the record, the other live-action scripted series are "The Cleaning 
Lady" and "9-1-1 Lone Star" (the parent in the "9-1-1" franchise was moved 
to ABC by Disney, its owner). Both shows begin their seasons next month. 
Meanwhile, five unscripted series are produced in Ireland and two more, 
even though they're produced in Atlanta, have the same Irish production 
company do post-production work in Ireland, since everything now is 
computer files instead of tape reels.

from her role as Cara on the Disney+ series after a series of wack job 
posts in social media and Elon Musk is financially supporting her suit, 
since some of her statements were made on what is now X--she claims in the 
suit that Disney and Lucasfilm's actions were "bullying, discriminatory, 
and retaliatory":

[TV orNotTV] CNN Goes Hard News in AM

The troubled "CNN This Morning," one of the more high-profile decisions of 
Chris "The Paste-Eater" Licht, is being shut down, the hosts being 
reassigned, the couch put out in the Hudson Yards dumpster (and the NY 
staff either reassigned or laid off) and will be replaced by an expanded 
edition of their morning hard news block from the CNN Center in Atlanta, 
meaning that they're going with hard news against the cheery network shows 
(and CBS lately has cut down on the hard news emphasis), Coffee Joe on 
MSNBC and the morons on the curvy couch on Fox News:

Which means the only remaining programming decision of Paste-Easter Licht

the strikes, so I don't know.)

over their miniseries "George and Tammy," about the country singer and her 
third husband, fellow country singer George Jones, claiming 
misrepresentation of Richey's character and "unjust enrichment"--the series 
is based on a book written by Georgette Jones, Possum's only biological 
daughter, and she and another daughter of Wynette signed an NDA in 2019 
stating that they would not make further statements about Richey--the

Back in 1971, Don Cornelius, then a DJ for Chicago's legendary Black radio 
station WVON, asked fellow DJ Joe "Youngblood" Cobb to record an opening 
for his new local TV show. Cobb's cry of "The SOOOUUL 
TRIN!" was heard on the local show on WCIU and when the show became a 
national program and ran for 45 years. Cobb, now 80 and long out of radio 
but running a popcorn store in Little Rock, got residuals for that 
recording during the original run, but he says that he gets nothing from 
the DVDs, repeats and ringtones ever since Cornelius' estate sold the 
rights to Magic Johnson in 2012 and  Johnson sold the rights to BET in 
2016, is now suing Paramount Global and two subsidiaries (one of them BET) 
for $75,000 in unpaid residuals:
