A partially buried lead in this thread about Late Show this week is his
Stooge of the Night segment (I have seen two shows this week, and am
assuming he has been doing it all week). I assume he is being criticized
for this, both by gun control opponents and those who think that network

I caught the new open last night. Dumping the CG skyline is a definite
improvement, but I wish they hadn't replaced one piece of cheap-looking CG
with the cheap-looking CG version of the Ed Sullivan Theater marquee. Also,
there's something about the cityscape shots that felt very derivative of

I thought the new open calls back to the opening and commercial intro/outro shots from the old "Late Night" days. And that's a good thing...I like it.Doug FieldsTampa, FL

The interesting thing is, Dave himself didn't do anything different. The
dash to up-left, the entrance, hitting his mark were exactly as he's done

Not sure if this was brand new tonight or if was in use before Dave's
recent vacation, but Late Show has finally ditched the crappy CGI open
for actual footage of New York City and (what I thought was) a classy
graphics package.
They also seem to have changed the shot list following the VTR:
