When I run this from a terminal, the screen gets locked and seems to remain
black even after moving the mouse and waiting again for the dialog to go away:

This is massively FRUSTRATING! Every time my wife uses our PC she finds
that she can't play any sound. She has to reboot the PC which is a pain
and means that I loose anything I had open. I've told her to do this
because quite rightly, she shouldn't have to run scripts etc just to
play some music!
I still see a similar message. "usb_id[394]: unable to access
'devices/pci:00/:00: id.1/usb3/3-1" running Karmic 9.10 fully
updated. I also ran dist-upgrade and encounter the same results.
The problem started ~2 months ago, ~50% of the time my machine does not

gconf 2.28-1ubuntu5 did not fix this for me. I tried downgrading gconf2
to 2.28-1ubuntu4 and upgrading again, but to no avail. Running `xset r
on` after each login is a workaround for now. Anything I can run in
order to fix this?

various system events like they could in M/S windows and then have to
tell them that you are sorry but you can no longer do that in the latest

The client disconnects for some reason.
When I reconnect the client I am asked to add my computer at the Ubuntuone web
page. When I view the machines connected to my account my computer is added
again but with a new (ID).

This time, I reproduced the freeze on a ubuntu 9.04 liveCD.
I installed version 180.44 of the nvidia proprietary drivers, and version
10.0.42.34 of adobe proprietary flash plugin.
The computer froze again while displaying the "Home" movie.
One interesting thing : I never experienced such freezes
Please note that there's a backport of 2.5.0-12 for Hardy in my PPA for
those who need to check whether this still applies to recent packages.

I want to try #5 but I have a 64bit system (in both, /lib64 and /lib are
firmware files). Is the file compatible for 64bit systems, too? And why
should its name be ibm-, the other files don't have this prefix.
