Joseph, I did what you suggested. I downloaded the 3.10RC10 kernel from
you link, and installed the 3 debs. After rebooting into this kernel, I
verified that suspend/resume still worked. I then installed the Ati
driver Additional Drivers, and rebooted. I tried suspend, and it did not
resume, I had
Crap, false alarm. It turns out the catalyst driver wasn't loading, and
it falling back to non-accelerated video. So, I'm back to square one. On
a good note, the open source driver does seem to have improved some in
onereic. Smaller videos are smooth, but full-screen videos are pretty
laggy, not
One little clarification to above. It is not enough to just hit the Ctl-
Alt-F7 combination. You actually have to go to a different virtual
terminal and come back - e..g., Ctl-Alt-F5 followed by Ctl-Alt-F7.

However, sound doesn't work in flash videos, but where sound does work

Update: With Onereic, suspend and resume now works with this laptop and
the ATI closed driver. the only catch is when I resume I have to hit the
CTL-ALT-F7 combination a few times before the screen will resume. i can
live with that for now. In this instance, I manually installed the 11.8
driver
One more update: I was able to manually install flash 11.0 from Adobe
website, and manually copy it to plug-in directory. flash is not yet
working in Chrome.
So... I know have fully-accelerated video on my AMD E-350 fusion-based
laptop and suspend is now working (as long as I hit the Ctl-alt-F7
FYI - none of the above solutions (including the bios trick to see what
failed) have worked. I also updated to lateat bios with no change.

Actually, I installed Maverick and the latest Ati Catalyst driver and it
still failed. I have also tried other Distros, still no luck with
Catalyst. For now, I will have to live with either no suspend/resume, or
sucky video. Both kind of stink on a laptop, so for now I will boot into

Note: The above log info is after deactivating Addition Hardware Driver
and going back to open-source driver. If necessary I could re-enable ATI
driver, but I'm not sure what to submit at that point. In general, I
don't expect a high priority on this bug. I can always downgrade to
10.10 and use
I have the same problem on an Aspire 3680. It offered to install the
driver, which I did (plugging in ethernet port so it would download
driver) and rebooted. No go, lspci shows BCM4311, but nothing with
ifconfig -a.

I too have this issue, and it renders UbuntuOne and Gwibber inoperable.
This is a clean install of 10.04 with all updates applied as of May 6th,
2010. So far the hacks for this look pretty ugly, so I will wait for a
patch. Here is my output to 'gwibber-account' at the command line:
For what it's worth, I just uninstalled the vbetool package. It also
asked to uninstall the related package acpi-support. I let it. I've had
no problem since. Suspend works perfectly, no acpi problems (frequency
scaling, etc). Don't know why this package is enabled by default, but I
kissed it
I am updated to the release 9.10, and Ubuntu One still crashes when I
try to launch it. There are no updates available, and it seems this is
marked fixed, so is there anything I can do?

have to build a kernel module. I installed it on Ubuntu 8.04 64-bit (it
also works on 9.10). From what I read, you can even run a 64-bit guest

I did a dist-upgrade to 8.10 from 8.04. When it got to the stage of
upgrading some mono packages, it tried to stop and start Apache. I don't
know what it was doing, but it hung forever (I let it sit there for
several hours). Finally, I realized it was never going to finish. I
I booted off of the Intrepid Alpha4 liveCD, and yes, reboot did work.
For now, though, I will stay with Hardy and the 2.6.24 kernel since this
is a production machine (I am a developer). I am not familiar with the
2.6.26 kernel. Is that an experimental kernel for Hardy? Anyhoo, for now
I will live
FYI for anyone affected by this. The problem is that there are no
2.6.24.19 kernel modules in the repository for Parallels, only
2.6.24.18. The solution for now is to only boot into the 2.6.24.18
kernel. This can be a little troublesome on a newer install of Hardy.

As much as I tried, I have not found a way to reproduce this bug. It
just happens once in a while. One time, the CPU didn't hit 100%, the
panels just stopped working and gnome-panel wasn't even running. I would
just chalk this up as a fleeting situation unless others report it also.

After a recent update to the gnome packages, the gnome panel now only
works for a few minutes after logging in and then stops functioning.
Many of the applets on the panel (top and bottom) work - but the menus,
the minimized icons, the shutdown icon, and the program launchers

out. None of them has helped. Just apply the updates that come
automatically - maybe some day one of them will do the job.

I know the solution (I fixed it immediately on my box), I was just

Nautilus itself was working, because I could look at folders (home,
Computer, etc). Anyway, the latest updates (Apr 21, 2008) seems to have
fixed it. The only relevant items I saw in the update were Ubuntu-
desktop, Ubuntu-desktop-minimal, etc. I'm not sure if that was it, but
it is working now.
I have already fixed my home directory permissions, and that did take
care of it. It would scare many users though.
As for the comment about the Unicode migration tool, I assume that
comment is for Tobias, since I do not even know what it is.

I just edited the /etc/interfaces file and added auto eth0'. In my
opinion, there should be a checkbox that says automatically start this
interface at system boot. This is how it works on Mandriva. All this
checkbox should do is add or remove the auto flag for the interface.

FWIW, I have the same problem on an Athlon 2800+ laptop. My max
frequency should be 2133 mhz (apprx) but instead it is 1466 (approx).
Using cpufreq_set does not work. Echoing the value into scaling_max_freq
does not work. I ran cpufreq-info and it reported the hardware was
limiting it to 1467. For

If I add acpi=off to grub, I get the full 2.13 ghz. I then tried
immediately rebooting into windows and re-ran perfmon, but windows was
still limited to 1.467 ghz as per above. Perhaps ACPI is broken on this
