I got it working with the correct DisplaySize and I seemed to have gotten it to
where the dpi was correct but good god was it slow. I've never seen firefox
render anything quite so slowly or a simple picture to load. I was watching it

Your problem appears pretty closely related. As I suggested earlier, it
appears that nm-vpnc is doing some extra step that is offending. It is doing
more stuff than vpnc does and that is the real problem.
