Oh, I did have a local install of ffmpeg that I forgot about. Removing

Yes this is possible. Do this then:
ps aux | grep lircd
That will show if it's running. If it is, it can get started via udev
earlier.
What you can do is add a set -x to the top of /etc/init.d/lirc for

-Keyboard. It stalls and then finally the message comes up. Then you

Confirm in Jaunty beta default install on Dell Mini 9.
Attaching output of lspci -vvnn and copy of Xorg.0.log, in attached tar.

I've replicated this a few times - I have done 7 installations of ubuntu
this week.
sudo apt-get remove flashplugin-nonfree
sudo apt-get install flashplugin-nonfree
clears the problem. Unexperienced users would not know to do this

I am also using serbian translation (the unknown locale it complains
about is sr_RS). Alacarte works in terminal if the command is preceded
with LANG=en. Don't know if it's relevant, since Alacarte is a Python
program, but I'm using the 64bit Ubuntu variant.

Yes this is a power-management-related problem. I have the same issue in
my samsung X460. With AC power connected all work fine, while with
battery only the screen goes black when screensaver start. Replacement
with Xscreensaver apart, exist other solution now? I'm using Interpid
now...

In practice, if I have sun-java6-jdk installed and then install tomcat6
with
sudo aptitude -R install tomcat6
which doesn't pull
ecj-gcj libecj-java-gcj
as dependencies,
