[Bug 50173] Re: Aisleriot solitare crashes when choosing new game from Select Game

2006-06-20 Thread Mazin
Apparently this has been fixed in the CVS for gnome-games:

http://cia.navi.cx/stats/author/callum

You have to edit the file /usr/share/sol-games/sol.scm (around line 481)
from this:

(while (card-guardian))

to this:

(while (card-guardian) #t)

Apparently, the card-guardian loop needs something to chew on, else it
crashes. So far the fix is working for me, and I'm happy to get my
solitaire games back. :)

[Bug 45257] Re: forcedeth not working after dapper upgrade

2006-06-20 Thread Ayaz
You need to upgrade to latest version. Verion 0.29 is really old. The
latest version is 0.56.

There has even been a fix for phy addresses.

Why are you patching a really old version? I am assuming that ignoring
that message will still allow networking to work (even though you never
initialized the phy)?

[Bug 50420] sync() before hibernate

2006-06-20 Thread Nikolaus Rath
Public bug reported:

It seems to me that the fs are not synced before hibernation. Although
this is probably something the kernel should do, I propose to add a call
to sync to /etc/acpi/suspend.d/ as well. When I debugged a hibernation
problem, calling sync manually before suspend prevented a great deal of
data corruption (mainly open preference files like firefox preferences,
gaim buddy list, gconf settings) that otherwise occured when hibernation
failed (it probably failed before the kernel synced itself).

[Bug 49279] Re: epiphany opens /dev/dsp exclusevely

2006-06-20 Thread Sebastian Dröge
epiphany itself won't use /dev/dsp or another sound device directly. This must
be caused by a plugin you use.
Could you tell us which plugins you use except the flash one?

And it could very well be that the flash plugin uses /dev/dsp but
doesn't release it anymore. Whether your soundcard supports more than
one app using it at the same time or not is hardware and driver related
and at least for the apple ppc soundcards it's not supported at all
AFAIK.

If the plugin in question would use ALSA this could be emulated by dmix

[Bug 50427] Segmentation fault in reboot

2006-06-20 Thread Chris Waigl
Public bug reported:

Dapper Drake (fresh install) on an IBM ThinkPad T22 that's getting on in
the years and has run Ubuntu since Hoary.

Uptime: a few days. System up to date (updated via the update-manager
just about 1h before the crash; last update was ACPI; also installed
realplayer10 on that occasion).

Had been trying to explore hibernate/suspend, which doesn't work all
that well. System suspended over night via the menu entry SystemQuit,
but on awakening, the IBM Moon symbol (green LCD) kept blinking.
That's why I rebooted, via SystemQuitRestart.

Shut down was ok, then the message

Reboot line 19 31462 Segmentation faultreboot -d -f -ik

(Photo of screen here: http://www.flickr.com/photos/lascribe/171138032/)

Sorry, not sure what package the reboot script is in, or the shutdown in
general.

[Bug 50428] fglrx does not start in single screen mode

2006-06-20 Thread Paco Lopez Dekker
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xorg-driver-fglrx

I am running dapper on a Dell Latitude D610, using a
Radeon Mobility M300 (as reported by lspci). At work I have an external monitor
attached through a port replicator using the digital interface. I have used
ati-config to set-up xorg to use a single screen mode (producing the following
lines in),
Section Device
Identifier aticonfig-Device[0]
Driver fglrx
Option VideoOverlay on
Option OpenGLOverlay off
Option DesktopSetup single
EndSection

At x startup both the laptop screen and the external screen are enabled, but
the external one looks scrambled. Running fireglcontrolpanel shows that the
device is in a dual screen, clone mode. Changing to single mode in
fireglcontrolpanel and restarting x doing
sudo /etc/init.d/kdm restart
gets the system working in the desired mode, however the problem reapears after
a system reboot.

[Bug 50429] Warning when uninstalling gnome packages with aptitude

2006-06-20 Thread Oliver Klee
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: scrollkeeper

I'm using Kubuntu Dapper i386 upgraded from Breezy on an AMD Athlon 1400
MHz system with 1.5 GB of RAM and an Nvidia graphics card on an Asus
A7A266 board.

A few days ago, I installed the packacge ubuntu-desktop (and all its
dependencies) using aptitude.

Now I'm deinstalling that package and all its dependencies again (after
having marked the dependencies as purge so that the configuration
files won't be left behind), also using aptitude.

Every few packages, I see a warning like this:

Lösche Konfigurationsdateien von gnome-games ...
Entferne gnome-games-data ...
I/O warning : failed to load external entity
/var/lib/scrollkeeper/(null)/scrollkeeper_cl.xml

The deinstallation process doesn't stop, though.

[Bug 48186] Re: Booting is delayed by ~20 sec. when using 'quiet splash' arguments

2006-06-20 Thread Stefan Güls
Further tests showed this to be true for the -386 kernel (2.6.15-23 and
-25) with a fresh install on a different partition.

On IRC #ubuntu-de at least one other user reported the same problem.

P.S: The real annoying thing about this is, that when initially switching to
Dapper the boot-time was drastically shorter than with Breezy until kernel
-21 came along :-(. In this state the machine boots even _slower_ than it did
with Breezy.
If this isn't corrected or maybe even intended behaviour (what the hell is the
machine doing then in this 20 secs.?) this is a clear failure to meet the
claims and the objective for a quicker boot for Dapper.

[Bug 50432] Running wpa_supplicant with 2.6.15-25 / bcm34xx causes hard lockup

2006-06-20 Thread Andy Brook
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: wpasupplicant

Until 15-25, ifconfig eth1 would cause a hard lockup, due to 1 1GB limit
within the bcm kernel driver (see https://launchpad.net/bugs/44911 for
history).

In 15-25 this has been fixed and ifconfig doesnt cause a hang. However,
running wpa_supplicant with the following now results in exactly the
same symptoms, so perhaps there is a related issue?

I used the following command:
wpa_supplicant -ieth0 -c/etc/wpa_supplicant.conf
{ Ive tried using -Dwext but this doesnt seem to work with bcm43xx, leaving it
out seems to at least let me scan stations - I havent got it working yet.. }

I think this is a bug because with 2.6.15-25 and 1GB of ram I could do
this, since I updated the kernel and upped the RAM to 2GB, this problem
occurs.

[Bug 26825] Re: evdev is not working when you hotplug devices

2006-06-20 Thread Heiko
I can confirm this, its a missing feature in Xorg.
Maybe Xorg 7.2 can handle Hotplug input Devices.
the old way over /dev/input/mice is a workaround because the Kernel handle
the hotplugging and map all mice on this device.
For the event devices there is no such generic device. So the device file
exists only when the device is present.

I've the same Problem with my Bluetooth Mouse, because of the
limitations of the old way I can't use all Buttons :-/

[Bug 50104] Re: Tab overflow in Epiphany's tab bar

2006-06-20 Thread Ealden Esto E . Escañan
Found out by elimination that libgtk2.0-0 was causing the problem

** Changed in: Ubuntu
Sourcepackagename: None = libgtk2.0-0

** Summary changed:

- Tab overflow in Epiphany's tab bar
+ Dapper update cause tabs in Epiphany, GEdit, etc to overflow

** Description changed:

I have epiphany-browser from dapper-updates, and when I open new tabs it
overflows in the tab bar. Previously, arrow heads appear when the
number of tabs exceed the size of the tab bar.

This happens whether I use the keyboard shortcut (C-T) or the item in
the File menu. I've also observed this in both my desktop and laptop,
with or without a clean ~/.gnome2/epiphany folder.

The problem disappears when you select a different tab.

I'll attached a screenshot to better explain the situation.

Update: seems that this isn't specific to Epiphany, as I tried
downgrading to the Dapper Final version and the problem still persisted.
In Dapper Final this problem isn't present, but upgrading it to the
dapper-updates packages shows the problem. I guess one of the dapper-
updates package is at fault here.
+
+ Update 2: found out through elimination that libgtk2.0-0 might be at
+ fault here.

Kubuntu Dapper 6.06 here. Updated from 5.10 via network. Latest updates
installed. I have this bug now: it happens randomly. Didn't happen with
5.10 .

When it happens, I restart the X Server, using the mouse to select the
command from the kdm Menu, and the keyboard works again.

I use the 'nvidia' driver.

I have a similar problem.

Community wil certainly have not the skill / time to debug the
nvidia.ko

How to identify that theses oops are caused by the nvidia proprietary
driver ?

- I ran memtest86 during several minutes and no problemo
- I ran Xorg with driver nv and no problemo
- My computer crashes and the kernel oops when I start Xorg with the nvidia
driver

2006-06-20 Thread couannette
Please not misunderstand me :
- community will not debug this driver because we would prefer that Nvidia
release it in [L]GPL form ;o)...
- and because we have, technically, little access to its internals...

And about my question about the test cases: I'm searching for a method
to circumvent this problems.

[Bug 50435] Enhancement: rsync missing option -A (for syncing ACLs)

2006-06-20 Thread concentus
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: rsync

In OpenSuSE 10.0 and above I could use this option. I tried to migrate to
kubuntu 6.06 and my scripts are broken now, because of this missing option -
may be i missed something, but upgrading didn't solve this issue.
ACLs are vital for Linux Enterprise so I would welcome such an improvement.

[Bug 50437] swap partition with hibernation data should be detected automatically in initrd or mkinitramfs should check if swap partition is specified in /etc/mkinitramfs/conf.d/resume or initramfs.co

2006-06-20 Thread Mantas Kriaučiūnas
Public bug reported:

PROBLEM: if swap partition isn't created for some reason during OS
installation (e.g. user plans to create swap partition after
installation, e.g. in another hard drive, or simply forgets to create
swap partition) and user creates swap partition after the installation,
then hibernating works fine, but during the resume user loses all
unsaved data, because Ubuntu doesn't resume from hibernation and simply
erases all hibernated info :(((

SOLUTION: swap partition with hibernation data should be detected automatically
in initrd (initramfs) image.
If it's hard to realize autodetection of swap partition with hibernation data
during system startup, then mkinitramfs (and maybe update-initramfs) script
should at least check if swap partition is specified in
/etc/mkinitramfs/conf.d/resume or /etc/mkinitramfs/initramfs.conf. If the swap
partition isn't specified there, then specify it, so user will have working
hibernation/resuming after linux kernel image is reconfigured or installed.

Also the reconfiguration of linux kernel image (so, mkinitramfs or
update-initramfs scripts) shoud at least give a warning if swap
partition, specified in /etc/mkinitramfs/conf.d/resume or in
/etc/mkinitramfs/initramfs.conf doesn't exist.

Finding and writing swap partition into /etc/mkinitramfs/conf.d/resume
is already done in initramfs-tools package configure script, so, I think
it's easy to fix this bug and I can write needed patch for initrd
startup scripts or mkinitramfs script if you don't have free time for
this :)
