** Description changed: Binary package hint: linux-source-2.6.20 I'm not sure whether I can duplicate these issues or not and they might be related to one another: 1) When I booted up into Ubuntu for the first time, there was some system error: directory not found in root directory or something like that. The text displayed might've also shown the message about a missing var/run/cups/certs directory. And Ubuntu might also have tried to recreate the missing directory as shown in the information below. Furthermore, there were also some lines about HP Printing and Cupsd. E [05/Apr/2007:00:03:30 +0800] Creating missing directory /var/run/cups/certs E [05/Apr/2007:00:24:45 +0800] Creating missing directory /var/run/cups/certs E [05/Apr/2007:01:19:16 +0800] Creating missing directory /var/run/cups/certs E [05/Apr/2007:15:23:27 +0800] Creating missing directory /var/run/cups/certs E [05/Apr/2007:16:04:14 +0800] Creating missing directory /var/run/cups/certs E [05/Apr/2007:16:14:01 +0800] Creating missing directory /var/run/cups/certs The error never occurred again, however, I would find certain references within System log. 2) The following error has occurred at least twice. This ALWAYS happens when I'm carrying out a task on the computer and it definitely does not occur by itself as I left the pc on for about 8 hours when I went to sleep and to do other tasks. When I came back to the pc, Ubuntu was in working condition(no crashes, freezes, etc., etc.) I can't say for sure I remember what applications I was running and what tasks I was performing during all those times when this error occurred. However, on one particular occasion, I was downloading Koffice. Before the download could finish, Ubuntu crashed and I got the following error. This time, I'd a digicam ready and I was able to snap an image. This is the clearest shot I could take(the others were eh, too blurry): http://img507.imageshack.us/my.php?image=errors1qh5.jpg I don't think I've any other logs to provide as the error last occurred more than 12 hours ago. However, what I did was to disable Printer service(cupsys) and Printer service(hplip) from System--- Administration Services. Since then, the errors have not occurred. The applications which I were running while this crash occurred while downloading Koffice were: a) Thunderbird b) Firefox c) Terminal d) Synaptic manager e) Text editor f) Konqueror g) Skype - - That's all the information I know. [Bug 95011] Re: erratical titlebar behaviour
I also see this bug. After maximizing a window I can no longer use its titlebar, the only way to restore sane behaviour is to unmaximize it from wnck-applet. I found that this problem didn't happen with the default configuration, but only after disabling wobbly windows from the desktop-effects capplet. Stephane, you could confirm this is the case also for you by following these steps: 1) launch desktop-effects and disable compiz. Quit desktop-effects. 2) Run the following commands to reset your compiz configuration: gconftool-2 --recursive-unset /apps/compiz gconftool-2 --recursive-unset /apps/gwd 3) Launch desktop-effects again and enable it. Check if this bug is happenning. 4) Disable wobbly windows from the desktop-effects capplet and check again. -- erratical titlebar behaviour https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/95011 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 103605] PCI video card not addressed correctly for X
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: xorg Xorg on Sparc Ultra 10- ATI PCI card failure. - I have just done an install of Feisty on an Ultra 10. The install went fine. I then decided to install a graphical desktop, so installed _Ubuntu-Desktop_. This all went fine, as well. Unfortunately, when starting X, I get an error message: xf86MapPciMem: Could not mmap PCI memory (some long address) (inappropriate ioctl for device) I have run dpkg-reconfigure xserver-xorg, but still get the same error, as I don't know what the memory address should be. As I have the standard PCI video card, that comes with the Ultra 10, I am concerned that this is a problem that should be ironed-out, before full release of Feisty. [Bug 103603] X server at 100% CPU
Public bug reported: Daily updates feisty. xserver-xorg (7.2-0ubuntu11) freezes when left running for a longer period. I use kubuntu on both machines so it might be a KDE bug. [Bug 84717] Re: SRU: updates necessary for Kubuntu Upgrade Tool in Edgy
Worked fine on my home installation. Only mild complaint is that after having upgraded to 7.04, Adept Updater always says 'A new version of Kubuntu is available! Click next...' after installing any patches. the Next button is greyed out but it is a bit misleading. Did not work at all on my office installation. I suspect that this is because it is behind a proxy. I have set a http_proxy environment variable, and have proxy lines in apt.conf. Normally Adept works fine. [Bug 103608] [feisty] boot stuck in the initramfs
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: lvm2 recent updates in feisty fixed a race condition at boot time between mdadm and sata hard drives. This fix seems to have been working for me. more recently, the kernel was updated to 2.6.20-14. This updates and the one coming along broke my boot again. Unfortunatly I do not have much time yet to rebuild the initramfs for the 2.6.20-13 kernel, to test if the problem comes from the kernel or from the userland tools, but I plan to do so later today. Here is a first report with logs collected in the busybox shell: * boot with break=premount * run udevd --verbose and store the output * run udevtrigger * at this point, NONE of my devices has been detected, they used to appear immediatly with previous versions. * near to one minute later, the console show a bunch of new lines and my hard drives have been properly detected, and my /dev/md0 mdadm array is also here. [Bug 95011] Re: erratical titlebar behaviour
Follow up to previous comment: The desktop-effects capplet simply disables the wobbly plugin (/apps/compiz/general/allscreens/options/active_plugins) if you choose to disable wobbly effects. This is what's causing problems. The way I found to disable the wobbly effect without causing compiz to misbehave is to keep the wobbly plugin but change its configuration, by emptying the two lists at /apps/compiz/plugins/wobbly/screen0/{grab,map}_window_types. I'd also like to disable the maximize_effect key, but doing that brings back the problems described before. There are at least two possible ways to close this bug: 1) Fix compiz so that it works correctly without loading the wobbly plugin. 2) Change what desktop-effects does when you enable/disable wobbly effects to emulate the behaviour I described above. -- erratical titlebar behaviour https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/95011 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
