[Bug 2073633] Re: padsp binary missing from pulseaudio-utils
Thanks for reporting. Took a look at the package content and changes. Looks like padsp was present in Ubuntu 23.10 [1] and then removed in 24.04 [2]. Which means something happened between versions 1:16.1+dfsg1-2ubuntu4 [3] 1:16.1+dfsg1-2ubuntu10 [4] Checking the changelog between these two versions led me to https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/pulseaudio/1:16.1+dfsg1-2ubuntu8 which disabled padsp. though is short on details why. So there might be other issues which should be resolved before it can be re-enabled. Regardless, now that it is disabled, looks like additionally: * the package still contains bash completions for the binary even though it isn't included [2} * the database for command-not-found doesn't seem to have been updated after the binary was removed. It probably should to reflect which binaries exists and are offered by the package. [Bug 2073919] Re: luit package missing in Ubuntu
Thanks for reporting. Indeed, the luit package does not exists in Ubuntu, nor has it been synced and added automatically. Digging deeper, I found that Ubuntu has had a (separate) luit package at some point in history. [1] Comparing the version numbers with the Debian package [2], the latest published version of the old package was 1:1.0.2-0ubuntu2 The new package has version 2.0.20221028-1 Due to the epoch (1: prefix) I believe the Debian package is interpreted as an older version number and skipped since the Ubuntu version counts as newer. Otherwise it would be synced and appear in oracular. I've subscribed the Archive Admins which can hopefully take a look at this theory and possible force sync the Debian version. [Bug 2067196] Re: FTBFS gitsome 0.8.0+ds-9 fails to build without python3-six
> Summarizing, the key is python3-urllib3: we're syncing it from experimental Aha, that makes sense. Out of curiosity, how did you track down this specific dependency? Because doing it manually would require to check all build dependencies and in turn their dependencies to find the difference between Ubuntu and Debian. Looks like in the meantime the new version of python3-urllib3 has been uploaded to unstable, which caused the same build failure there (see attached bug watch). [Bug 2067196] [NEW] FTBFS gitsome 0.8.0+ds-9 fails to build without python3-six
Public bug reported: gitsome 0.8.0+ds-9 was synced from Debian to Ubuntu Oracular but fails to build with the following error message: ModuleNotFoundError: No module named 'six' (https://launchpadlibrarian.net/730825470/buildlog_ubuntu-oracular- amd64.gitsome_0.8.0+ds-9_BUILDING.txt.gz) Interestingly enough, the same package builds successfully in Debian Sid. One notable difference is that python3-six is installed as part of the build: Get: 102 http://deb.debian.org/debian unstable/main amd64 python3-six all 1.16.0-6 [16.3 kB] (https://tests.reproducible-builds.org/debian/rb-pkg/unstable/amd64/gitsome.html) I could not find a corresponding line in the build log for Ubuntu. I am not sure why, but adding the build dependency manually fixes the build. The question is how to address this. I will add a debdiff below which resolves the issue to make gitsome build successfully. Normally the patch should be forwarded or applied to Debian, though for now this only seems to be a problem in Ubuntu. Also, it looks Debian is pulling in python3-six as a transitive dependency but I don't know how to drill down where it comes from to see the actual delta between Debian and Ubuntu causing this issue. [Bug 2065422] Re: Misleading error creating python virtual environment, says need to install python3.11-venv
Thanks for taking your time to report this issue and help making Ubuntu better. I was unable to reproduce this issue. I get the same message, but the suggestion is `apt install python3.12-venv`. That's more expected, since as you mentioned Python 3.11 was removed before release of 24.04 (https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/python3.11/+publishinghistory) The python3 binary is a symlink to the actual python version handled by python3-defaults, so I've taken the liberty of moving this bug report there. It would be interesting to see which package version you are running. My system lists $ dpkg -S `command -v python3` python3-minimal: /usr/bin/python3 $ apt policy python3-minimal python3-minimal: Installed: 3.12.3-0ubuntu1 Candidate: 3.12.3-0ubuntu1 Version table: *** 3.12.3-0ubuntu1 500 500 http://no.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu noble/main amd64 Packages 100 /var/lib/dpkg/status And or run `apport-collect 2065422` which will add additional debug information to the bug report. >I'm just not sure why I don't see some matching reference ubuntu-side. If you go to the package overview page, in the upper right corner you have a link to the publishing history. According to https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/grip/+publishinghistory it was removed during the 23.04 cycle, and it looks to be the same issues which got it removed from Debian testing.
