When my AIRONET Wireless Communications Cisco Aironet Wireless 802.11b
card seems to be having trouble with a wifi signal, the entire system
freezes, often with the caps lock blinking.
I can't do this workaround at the moment. Will be able to do it in a

changed this 180 second delay to 30 seconds for my testing.
I think it would be reasonable to put the mdadm patch before this delay
also. The delay is OK if you are watching the system boot as it will
grab your attention and remind you that you may have a problem.

I have tried replacing the --no-degraded option with -R in the past
and found that sometimes the RAID sets will sometimes load degraded even
when all of the drives are available. You then have to reassemble your
RAID sets manually.

I have a compact flash card on my PC. Running Fiesty, Nautilus 2.18.1. The
card is automatically mounted as a drive (not in any tables/files).

I hit ctrl+alt+delete, it continues to boot, but in read-only mode.

Something is hijacking the system. I've noticed that when
pulseaudio/rhythmbox stutters, my typing also lags for a split second. I

I had the same -no sound with any app, after upgrading from 9.04 to 9.10.
Got it working by going to System, Preferences, Sound; and on the Output tab of
the Sound Preferences window, slid the Balance control off centre and back.
Possibly any other adjustment would have brought the sound to

I have tried installing and uninstalling octave3.0 and ocate3.2 in various
ways. It now appears to have installed correctly. I think the problem was that
sudo apt-get --purge remove octave3.2
did not remove octave3.2-common. After issuing the above command I followed it
up with
sudo
I installed wicd from the repository, network manager will be removed
automatically...now all works properly.

I would like to 'respectfully' add my opinion that this should not be a
'low' priority issue, there seem to be many threads and reports (going
back years!) that this is a big problem for many users and in my humble
opinion is a strange and annoying behaviour for an e-mail client.

Pedro, the question above was whether disabling compiz fixes it.
Desktop effects under Appearance is what disables/enables compiz.
I can't speak for Jeff, but for me this bug is only there with
compiz/desktop effects enabled.
Having said that, no specific compiz feature seems to trigger it.

Power remained on.
The test was repeated using AC power with the settings above. The
results were the same.
I did notice that the backlight did not stay on as was originally the
case using Jaunty.
