I can't reproduce this bug in Ubuntu, this is probably something
Kubuntu related.
But I *can* reproduce it in Ubuntu as well as Kubuntu. So I wonder if
there are different variants of this hardware and it doesn't work on
some? Mine is the 1GB/16GB SSD, 8, UK version.

Yes you are correct - on switching to another tty I can see that the
screen is correctly positioned.
I do not have compiz enabled. I'm using kwin effects, but the problem is
the same if I turn them off.

This issue is still occurring for me (Jaunty, fully updated) but I have
found out that it only affects Kubuntu - other KDE4 distros I've tried
(Mandriva, Fedora) do not have this problem. Is anybody looking at this,

After updates today (15:00 GMT 6 Feb 2009) I can no longer log in.
I get the KDE splash screen, the splash screen goes away and then all I
get is the background image and nothing else.

I've been working on this too. The problem seems to be that the DVD
needs to be mounted before you start ripping. If you just insert the DVD
and rip it, dvd::rip does not copy the ifo files to the correct place.
If you make sure the DVD is mounted first then it will copy the ifo
files and vobsub

Not sure this is invalid. The equalizer in Amarok is only missing on
Kubuntu. I've tried Amarok 2.2 on Mandriva 2009.1, using KDE 4.3.1 and
the equalizer is present and working, so this support must be available
already.

Also happening for me in Karmic. The fix outlined above:
Patching /etc/kernel/postinst.d/dkms to redirect stdout DOES FIX the problem.
Adding 12 to the invocation of /etc/init.d/dkms_autoinstaller keeps stdout
clean.
fixes the problem for me.

properly? That sucks big rocks.

I've installed Amarok and KDE 4.2.9 from the backports ppa, that's the
only way I could get it to work at all with my iPod. However it still
doesn't transfer album art. Amarok 1.4
The tags have a different artist for every track but the album name is
the same. In the past, Amarok was clever enough to recognise this as a
compilation album and display it under 'Various Artists'. As far as I'm
concerned, this is correct behaviour (Amarok 1.4 did it perfectly every
time).

I am trying to get jackd to start in realtime mode. I have installed linux-rt
(the realtime kernel). Instructions on the net, which work on all other

I can't comment on karmic because I'm not running it. I'm now running
