scroll goes trough command history (like pressing keys up and down)

The problem is that by default normal users are not given access to the
device.
Adding this rule to udev (e.g. at the end of file
/etc/udev/rules.d/40-permissions.rules) puts all Brother devices into
group scanner so that all users who are in the group scanner are

I wondered for long why my Lirc installation does not work even though
all settings were correct and my ~/.lircrc was set up correctly. Finally
I realized, that irexec does not start automatically.
I fixed it by adding command irexec -d into Gnome's session-system.

My fix does not work i 9.04 probably because the udev config is
different. I Jaunty the udev basic conf relies in the file
/lib/udev/rules.d/50-udev-default.rules

The file association is missing again. Opening .asc files runs Gedit,
not Seahorse.

In Ubuntu Dapper there is an error - it has the 2.3.1.31 firmware by default.
This version does not work at all. You must copy the firmware from
/lib/firmware/`uname -r`/acx/1.2.1.34 to /lib/firmware/`uname -r`/acx/default
and restart, after this, everything works ok.

I just installed a fresh Ubuntu 12.04 Alpha1 (Precise) on two machines,
one Acer Aspire Aspire 5736Z with Acer Nplify 802.11b/g/n (Broadcom

If I boot without acpi=off and run the xrandr-command, nothing happends.
None of the Fn-key work either as acpi is on, so I guess the ACPI is

I added now an external monitor to the laptop so that I could investigate what
state its is in when booted withouth acpi=off. It
turns out that with ACPI enabled, the xrandr brightness range is 0-9:

I compared the Xorg logs when booting with kernel 2.6.32-22 and -15. In both
cases, the modelines are scanned fine but under -22 there is an line in
Xorg.0.log:
(II) intel(0): Not using mode 1280x1024 (bad mode clock/interlace/doublescan)
Later in Xorg.0.log there are several lines like

After asking about this on a mailing list, Martin Pitt kindly informed
me that ACL is indeed used in Ubuntu and thus the +-signs. The ACL is
set by udev using the ruleset in /lib/udev/rules.d/70-acl.rules
The rationale to use ACL in Ubuntu is that with it the system can
control that e.g. inserted
