I've been having similar problems for quite some time
(http://oss.sgi.com/archives/xfs/2009-03/msg00062.html). Lockups affecting
random parts of the system. Most of the time, it wouldn't even reboot and I had
to pull the plug. I'm running intrepid 2.6.27-11-server x86_64 on an Intel

Confirmed. Exactly the same problem. It seems as if the harddisks are

I should add that I have also managed to install Ubuntu 9.04 by upgrading
from 8.10 (booting from a USB stick with debug=mount also works, but I
didn't use it for the install). It would still be nice if the boot process

yep, confirmed here as well. Have updated to 9.04 with the latest nvidia
drivers and running compiz and vnc does not update to show clicks. I
have a laptop with a brand new install of 9.04 with nvidia latest
drivers and compiz and its the same there.

the trousers package fails to install / remove on an updated hardy install
I believe it might have something to do with the use of start-stop-daemon
looking for a PID file that tcsd does not create.
everytime I try to start the daemon by running /etc/init.d/trousers start it
all_generic_ide worked for me and I think I know why. It is DMA/66 80
pin tape issue. Without all_generic_ide option, on my PC, kernel uses
pata_via driver. My recorder can work in UDMA/66 mode and pata_via
driver sets this mode for it. But my dvdrecorder is connected to
mainbord by old 40 pin tap
Apparently this works for me, no OO crash for 6 days and I haven't
noticed any obvious side effects yet.

Now firefox no longer starts; it says:

Linux myhost 2.6.24-1
For my father, it works for 3 weeks or 4, since he applied some new
ubuntu updates. He don't know which one fixed the bug.
