[Bug 761595] Re: Unity launcher tooltip does not disappear when switching windows between workspaces

I just downloaded a fresh version of the Precise Beta 2 ISO and re- installed on my problem machine. I did the same dist-upgrade that I did yesterday and all is well. No issues with update-initramfs. [Bug 974765] Re: Drive not found since 3.2.0-21... kernel panic, unable to mount root fs
I've just done a clean install of 12.04 Beta 2 and got this problem after apt-get dist-upgrade. I see exactly the same symptoms as James describes with the messed-up grub entries and kernel panic. My /usr/sbin/update-initramfs is also linked to /bin/true. I've worked around it by choosing the 3.2.0-20 kernel from the grub menu, then I removed the 3.2.0-23 series with Synaptic and ran update- grub. [Bug 783238] Re: Uninstalled Thunderbird and set Evolution as default but Thunderbird still shown in Dash.
Thanks for the suggestion, but those instructions are for 10.04. This is primarily a Unity problem (with the Dash). I think I have worked around the problem by deleting local .desktop shortcuts for mail programs from ~/.local/share/applications, copied /usr/share/applications/evolution.desktop to ~/.local/share/applications, reset Evolution as my preferred email client and the Dash is now correctly displaying Evolution. [Bug 770155] Re: window jumps partly to another workspace
Having observed this for a while now, it seems to only affect windows that are snapped to the extreme right of the workspace grid, i.e. workspaces top-right and bottom-right in a 2x2 grid. [Bug 770155] Re: window jumps partly to another workspace
I can also confirm this. I think it's only started happening recently (post final release) but I'm not 100% on that. Steps to duplicate, starting with a clean desktop: 1. Open a window on workspace top-left 2. Switch to workspace top-right 3. Open a window and move it to bottom-right corner so it snaps 4. Switch between the two windows using launcher icons The problem only happens for me if in step 3, the window is snapped to the edge of the screen and not maximised. It does not happen if the window is just very close to the edge of the workspace. It also happens if Super-W is used to show all windows and the window is focused. The key seems to be focusing to a window on another desktop where that window is snapped right. There is a slight difference in behaviour if the launcher is set to hide in some way or set to never hide. In the case of never hide, the window that is snapped right moves when switched to so that it overlaps another workspace. In the case of hide, the window does not seem to move but switching stops working. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/770155 Title: window jumps partly to another workspace -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 755599] Re: Opening Audacity causes Unity-2D launcher and global menu to disappear
Logged out and back in. All I started was a terminal to follow the output of .xsession-errors. I then hit the Super key to bring up the dash (had to hit it twice) and launched Audacity. [Bug 755599] Re: Opening Audacity causes Unity-2D launcher and global menu to disappear
OK, I have a better pattern of failure now: I lose launcher and panel in these cases: 1. Hit Super to open the Dash and escape to cancel 2. Hit Super to open the Dash and click on an active window without entering text 3. Hit Super to open the Dash and run an application that opens full-screen (Audacity/Synaptic in my case) 4. Hit Super to open the Dash, click on a lens, e.g. applications, then escape to cancel It behaves correctly in these cases: 1. Hit Super to open the Dash and Super again to cancel 2. Hit Super to open the Dash and click on the desktop to cancel It recovers if I Hit Super-S a couple of times. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/755599 Title: Opening Audacity causes Unity-2D launcher and global menu to disappear -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Since the last couple of days' updates, this has got worse. The white screen problem is still there, but now sometimes maximizing a window will cause the desktop to hang completely and a reboot is required. [Bug 752445] [NEW] Intermittent white window contents when maximizing/switching windows
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: compiz Fresh install of Natty Beta. Nvidia graphics card with proprietary driver. Not all the time, but maximizing windows sometimes results in a white window. Sometimes switching between windows (not necessarily maximised) does the same. The window borders are there but the body of the window is white. Resizing the window smaller sometimes makes it redraw. Minimizing other applications sometimes makes it redraw. The white window is most often the focussed window, but sometimes windows behind the focussed window go white too. Once an application has gone white, this seems to encourage other windows to do the same. Minimizing all windows, reactivating the required window and perhaps resizing will bring the window contents back. I don't think this is restricted to specific applications. I've been able to duplicate the problem with Firefox, Thunderbird, Nautilus, Synaptic, Terminal, Geany, Nvidia Settings and others. It's not Unity. If I switch to Classic I get the same problem, although perhaps with slightly less frequency. Switch to Classic with no effects and the problem goes away. So I suspect a combination of Compiz and the Nvidia driver that comes with Natty. [Bug 752445] Re: Intermittent white window contents when maximizing/switching windows
** Attachment added: Unfocussed windows sometimes go white too ... https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/compiz/+bug/752445/+attachment/1987678/+files/Screenshot-1.png ** Description changed: Binary package hint: compiz Fresh install of Natty Beta. Nvidia graphics card with proprietary driver. - Not all the time, but maximizing windows results in a white window. - Sometimes switching between windows (not necessarily maximised does the - same). The window borders are there but the body of the window is white. - Resizing the window smaller sometimes makes it redraw. Minimizing other - applications sometimes makes it redraw. The white window is most often - the focussed window, but sometimes windows behind the focus window go - white too. + Not all the time, but maximizing windows sometimes results in a white + window. Sometimes switching between windows (not necessarily maximised) + does the same. The window borders are there but the body of the window + is white. Resizing the window smaller sometimes makes it redraw. + Minimizing other applications sometimes makes it redraw. The white + window is most often the focussed window, but sometimes windows behind + the focussed window go white too. Switch to Classic with no effects - and the problem goes away. + and the problem goes away. So I suspect a combination of Compiz and the + Nvidia driver that comes with Natty. + + See also http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1721206 ProblemType: Bug DistroRelease: Ubuntu 11.04 Package: compiz 1:0.9.4git20110322-0ubuntu5 ProcVersionSignature: Ubuntu 2.6.38-7.39-generic 2.6.38 Uname: Linux 2.6.38-7-generic x86_64 NonfreeKernelModules: nvidia .proc.driver.nvidia.gpus.0: Error: [Errno 21] Is a directory: '/proc/driver/nvidia/gpus/0' .proc.driver.nvidia.registry: Binary: .proc.driver.nvidia.version: - NVRM version: NVIDIA UNIX x86_64 Kernel Module 270.30 Fri Feb 25 14:34:55 PST 2011 - GCC version: gcc version 4.5.2 (Ubuntu/Linaro 4.5.2-8ubuntu1) + NVRM version: NVIDIA UNIX x86_64 Kernel Module 270.30 Fri Feb 25 14:34:55 PST 2011 + GCC version: gcc version 4.5.2 (Ubuntu/Linaro 4.5.2-8ubuntu1) Architecture: amd64 CompizPlugins: [core, bailer, detection, composite, opengl, compiztoolbox, decor, session, grid, regex, imgpng, resize, snap, animation, staticswitcher, workarounds, mousepoll, gnomecompat, move, vpswitch, expo, wall, fade, scale, unityshell] CompositorRunning: compiz Date: Wed Apr 6 12:55:10 2011 DistUpgraded: Fresh install DistroCodename: natty DistroVariant: ubuntu DkmsStatus: nvidia-current, 270.30, 2.6.38-7-generic, x86_64: installed GraphicsCard: - nVidia Corporation C61 [GeForce 6150SE nForce 430] [10de:03d0] (rev a2) (prog-if 00 [VGA controller]) -Subsystem: Elitegroup Computer Systems Device [1019:2602] + nVidia Corporation C61 [GeForce 6150SE nForce 430] [10de:03d0] (rev a2) (prog-if 00 [VGA controller]) + Subsystem: Elitegroup Computer Systems Device [1019:2602] InstallationMedia: Ubuntu 11.04 Natty Narwhal - Beta amd64 (20110330) InstallationMedia_: Ubuntu 11.04 Natty Narwhal - Beta amd64 (20110330) JockeyStatus: xorg:nvidia_current - NVIDIA accelerated graphics driver (Proprietary, Enabled, In use) Lsusb: - Bus 002 Device 003: ID 04fc:0005 Sunplus Technology Co., Ltd USB OpticalWheel Mouse - Bus 002 Device 002: ID 04b8:0005 Seiko Epson Corp. [Bug 735466] Re: USB device fails to connect - device descriptor read/64, error -110
As per the forum thread, I've reported the bug upstream and been asked to work through a git bisect to locate the commits between 2.6.37 final release and 2.6.38rc1 that first caused the problem. This is in progress and I expect to complete on 18th March. In doing this testing I'm noticing that this issue may be linked to lsusb hanging. I've observed that on bad kernels, lsusb hangs while this device is plugged and then completes when the device cable is removed. I tried the daily build of 2.6.38 (14th March 2011) and that fails. [Bug 727041] Re: unity-window-decorator crashed with SIGSEGV in g_closure_invoke()
Sufficiently similar to my case that I suspect it's the same problem. I have Banshee open and was changing the volume using the panel applet when Compiz crashed. Lost all my window title bars but everything else carried on OK, including the Unity Launcher. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/727041 Title: unity-window-decorator crashed with SIGSEGV in g_closure_invoke() -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 732733] [NEW] Netbeans does not work properly with Unity Launcher
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: netbeans If Netbeans is launched from a Unity shortcut, it launches ok. Right- click and select Keep in Launcher. Application name is shown as java- lang-Thread. Close Netbeans and try to re-launch from the launcher. The icon pulses for a few seconds but Netbeans does not launch. In some cases the title bar of Netbeans is missing but I cannot find a pattern to this. May be associated with whether Netbeans was closed when maximised or full-screen but it's not consistent. On launch, the title bar is sometimes missing, the menu font is compressed vertically and menus appear to be in the wrong place. Clicking on one menu actually brings up another. Switching back and forth between full-screen (in the application) and maximised sorts it out. [Bug 572617] [NEW] Compiz fails to decorate windows after upgrade
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: compiz Ubuntu 10.04 LTS; Compiz: 1:0.8.4-0ubuntu15 2.6.32-21-generic #32-Ubuntu SMP Fri Apr 16 08:09:38 UTC 2010 x86_64 GNU/Linux Following upgrade from 9.10 to 10.04, window decorations are not visible on boot where compiz was used as the window manager. Hi, I've got the same problem as Steve. I've been able to submit the crash report using apport as requested. [Bug 353080] Re: Netbeans IDE 6.5 don't autocomplete import statement
I think this is the same issue as: http://www.netbeans.org/issues/show_bug.cgi?id=160498 The current version of NetBeans available at netbeans.org doesn't have this bug. I've manually installed NetBeans 6.5.1 on Ubuntu 9.04 and the problem goes away. Does that make it a packaging issue? I should add that, although it sounds a trivial issue, auto-completing imports is important to Java developers. ** Bug watch added: Netbeans Issuezilla #160498 http://www.netbeans.org/issues/show_bug.cgi?id=160498 -- Netbeans IDE 6.5 don't autocomplete import statement https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/353080 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
