Re: [SlimDevices: Unix] iQAudio DAC+ "crashes" sometimes after player has been switched off and on again
Seems to be solved. The two GPIO lines I had connected through the DAC board to the touchscreen seem to have disturbed the DAC. Disconnected them and since then could not reproduce the issue. schup011's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=66557 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=107637 ___ unix mailing list unix@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/unix
Re: [SlimDevices: Unix] iQAudio DAC+ "crashes" sometimes after player has been switched off and on again
Thanks, will do. I also discovered that the two additional GPIO pins I had connected are not needed. So I will first disconnect those, then test. Afterwards, if it is still there, I will power the display completely separately, and try again. schup011's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=66557 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=107637 ___ unix mailing list unix@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/unix
Re: [SlimDevices: Unix] Announce piCorePlayer 3.20
Hi guys, I have an issue with pCP 3.2 (normal) on RasPi 3 Model B, an iQAudio DAC+ and official 7'' touchscreen + JiveLite. Sometimes (regularly, but not any time), the DAC crashes after having switched off the player and on again. No audio output any more. If this happens, I can only fix it by 1) Setting pCP audio to analogue audio --> Reboot 2) Setting pCP audio to iQAudio DAC + again --> Reboot 3) Hard reset (disconnect 5V after having shutdown pCP). Re: [SlimDevices: Unix] iQAudio DAC+ "crashes" sometimes after player has been switched off and on again
:D:D:cool: OK, got it. Yes, I have in fact seen this symbol. Never thought about it very much. Now, I know more. I will place a stabilizing 220µF capacitor within the power connection between DAC and display and then look how it works. Because this is quite easy to implement. If that works, for long term, I should think of a good 5V low noise power supply. schup011's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=66557 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=107637 ___ unix mailing list unix@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/unix
Re: [SlimDevices: Unix] iQAudio DAC+ "crashes" sometimes after player has been switched off and on again
No good news. Capacitor in between DAC and display power did not work at all (DAC gave no output). Removed it, got audio again, but with the above described issue. Then I put several capacitors at the 5V power input of the Raspberry Pi. No change. How is separate powering of the display done? At the moment, I have four wires from Pi (DAC board, respectively) to the display, two of them being 5V and GND. Should I just remove 5V, or 5V and GND, or all four wires? Can the micro USB socket of the display board be used for powering the display? Re: [SlimDevices: Unix] Announce piCorePlayer 3.20
Hi folks, I am using pCP on a Raspberry Pi 3 Model B, with iQAudio DAC+, 7'' touchscreen and jivelite. I had done the update from 3.21 (Audio) to 3.22 (Audio), but regularly experienced crashes (once a day). This occurred usually when I used the search (full text search PlugIn) on the touchscreen. It just said "Connecting to piCorePlayer" or something similar, and did not react further. Also no control from web interface or App possible. The pCP web interface showed Squeezelite and LMS running, but LMS did not react, e.g. no settings or log files available. Without the logs, I could not track the issue, so I always rebooted pCP, and it worked again for a day or so. I then switched back to 3.21 Audio, and everything runs as usual without a crash. Nevertheless, I would like to help tracking this issue, but how? I was told that there were some hot fixes on the 3.22 available, but I had not installed them. Player works, different streams (TuneIn radio, own music from network drive, ...) can be played without a problem, and different remote Apps also work normal. Just Jivelite on the 7'' does not work any more. To fix, I have to reboot. [SlimDevices: Unix] Unmounting USB mounts at piCorePlayer 3.22
Hi, I have a piCorePlayer 3.22 running on RPI 3 Model B with an attached USB stick for LMS cache and a network share for the music. Recently, I wanted to test mounting my music USB HDD drive as a second USB mount in piCorePlayer. Worked perfectly, then I removed the USB HDD drive and rebooted piCorePlayer. After that, LMS and Squeezelite did not start any more because at startup the second mounted USB drive was not available. And I was not able to remove the mount in the Web interface. I had to plug the USB HDD drive in again, reboot and then disable the mount. Only then, LMS and Squeezelite started normally at the next reboot. Is this behaviour intended? Unmounting USB drives only possible if the drive is plugged in? I thought it could happen that an USB stick breaks and then it would be impossible to replace it. To be clear: This was not a big problem for me, nevertheless I thought to share this experience in case this is not intended. And: Thanks for this great piece of SW!!! schup011's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=66557 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=108228 ___ unix mailing list unix@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/unix
Re: [SlimDevices: Unix] Now Playing Screen in Jivelite not showing up anymore
Hi, I just wanted to report the solution to this issue. Squeezelite rev. 999 produced many of these error lines into the pcp_squeezelite.log: output_thread:701 start error: File descriptor in bad state This is as described here: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?107352-Announce-piCorePlayer-3-20=900682=1#post900682 Seems having to do with my hardware (iQaudio DAC+). After a few days up and running, the log was around 500MB large. I am not really sure what happens with such large log files because I thought piCorePlayer would not write to the SD card at all. But definetely, there was some limit at which parts of the system did not work any more, in all cases JiveLite could not show the Now Playing Screen any more, but sometimes also LMS crashed. Solution: One or both of the following two steps: 1) Set Squeezelite logging level to "none" :-). 2) Update Squeezelite to newest revision (v1.8.7-1007). Hope this helps for others having some (possibly strange) problems. BTW: I have another piCorePlayer installation without JiveLite and LMS. There, the log also was flushed with the same messages and stuck at some size limit, but player was still working. ---- schup011's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=66557 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=108328 ___ unix mailing list unix@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/unix
Re: [SlimDevices: Unix] Jivelite for piCorePlayer
Hi folks, not sure whether I am in the correct thread - just trying. I have a piCorePlayer system (squeezelite + LMS) running on a Pi Zero W, with 7 inch WaveShare display. Everything is running fine - except one thing: The jivelite screensavers (e.g. at power off) do not work any more since the system is "building" its own net. I tried "Blank" and "Screen Off" and "Analogue CLock", none of them shows up when I push the power button on the Jivelite home screen. Then I tried again booting with connected LAN, then the savers are working again. Now I can even pull off the LAN cable, and still the screensavers work. So it seems that the savers only work when the system "knows" that it is connected to the internet. How can I get it working without booting it with connected LAN? It is planned to be a standalone system where no internet is available. Yes, I saved them. Did not help. Anyway, in the meanwhile I added GPIO buttons with SqeezeButtonPi to the player, and, interestingly, the screensaver shows up if the power command is triggered by the physical button, but it does not if the power command is done over touch screen. And yes, I have checked in both cases that the player goes into "power off". The player was a christmas present to my parents :o, therefore it won't be easy to change things in the next weeks. ---- schup011's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=66557 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=103330 ___ unix mailing list unix@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/unix

I think it is great extending the LMS ecosystem. One question I was asking myself with your approach was the benefit compared to existing solutions. If you are using RasPi's, I think there already is a great solution that covers quite a lot, maybe everything that is possible with LMS, squeezelite and RasPi's. So your solution would cover also x86 hardware. Is that the reason why you are working on it? I wanted just to give an update how I finally managed to switch from AP mode to normal WiFi without using Ethernet: With the AP still working, I ssh'd into the pCP, and used the setup commandline tool to change WiFi settings. At the same time, I also edited wpa_supplicant on the boot partition, not sure if that one was needed (just wanted to make everything sure). Then - important step - I switched off AP mode in the web interface (if you don't, your new WiFi settings will be ignored at the next boot). I don't remember whether I lose contact immediately and had to hard-reboot by disconnecting power. Anyway, after the reboot, the Pi without a problem connected to the new (external) Wifi network. For the other way round (setting up AP mode while connected to a WiFi network), I don't know whether there is also a way. I decided to keep the external router (even without internet connection) because it is way easier for maintenance. If I want to update, I can easily replace the external router by my mobile phone in hotspot mode with the same SSID/password settings. Thus, I can temporarily connect the system to the internet and do updates. ---- schup011's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=66557 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=108341 ___ unix mailing list unix@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/unix

I just want to point out that I got exactly such a system running without problems. The only thing is that at first you need to connect it to your router or switch via Ethernet because that gives you the possibility to configure everything. Once you have done that, you can turn on the AP mode, and it was working right away for me. The only thing I "discovered" was that this kind of setup is difficult for maintenance. Re: [SlimDevices: Unix] Wireless access point on piCorePlayer?
Sorry to use this thread for my question, but I think it fits to the discussion here: I have a standalone Picoreplayer system with RasPi Zero W, set up as wireless access point. It has a HDD connected and 7 inch touch display with Jivelite. Everything is running fine, but connections and SD card of the system are not really accessible :-(. Nevertheless, as there have been some LMS updates since then and I would like to use the new versions, I would like to access the internet once to do all the updates via the 4G connection of my smartphone (smartphone set as AP), and then switch back to access point mode. So I wondered whether there is a headless way to switch from AP mode to "normal" Wifi mode and back to AP mode. Any hints? Using ssh would not be a problem, just the missing Ethernet connection is a problem. Or would it be possible to set it up such that it searches for the Wifi network to access during boot, and if that is not found, it sets up itself as its own wireless access point? ---- schup011's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=66557 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=108341 ___ unix mailing list unix@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/unix

Re: [SlimDevices: Unix] piCorePlayer: Radio is streamed with wrong frequency
Yes, I also did learn only from the code posted above that it was only applying to MP3. I think for streams, it is really questionable because if you jump into a radio stream, it does not matter if you loose a second that is "eaten" by the Amp. Only for files, it could make sense since lots of classical music files really start at the very first second. So I could also imagine to restrict this to files . ---- schup011's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=66557 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=114921 ___ unix mailing list unix@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/unix

It's really funny and I wonder why I haven't noticed that before. I just always wondered why there were some jumps and left out music. And I only realized that something is wrong when I listened to a live performance of "Tristan und Isolde" with my favourite tenor Jonas Kaufmann. I thought: "Oh my, he is not in a good shape today, his voice sounds so extremely deep". ;) Then I checked my recording from DVB-S and everything was normal... ---- schup011's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=66557 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=114921 ___ unix mailing list unix@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/unix

You are my hero! It was the silence. Re: [SlimDevices: Unix] piCorePlayer: Radio is streamed with wrong frequency
Here is how LMS reacts for the two different streams (mp3 codec not excluded in Squeezelite). Looks weird. First, on 14:07:44, the "problematic" mp3 stream was requested. Then after a few seconds, it played, but too slow. Second, on 14:08:05, the aac stream of the same radio was requested. After a few seconds it played ok. 35403 Also here, something looks not really ok. I agree and obviously I have never needed it even if I thought I would. But my example shows that this has to be solved somehow as it gave really weird results - Philippe's lazyman solution should be sufficient for most users, but documentation should then also tell that this feature works only for mp3 44.1 kHz. ---- schup011's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=66557 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=114921 ___ unix mailing list unix@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/unix

Re: [SlimDevices: Unix] piCorePlayer: Radio is streamed with wrong frequency
I understand that there are two ways how the conversion from MP3 stream to PCM for the HDMI Audio is done: 1) LMS decodes to PCM and sends to Squeezelite, that sends directly to HDMI 2) LMS sends MP3 to Squeezelite, Squeezelite decodes to PCM. Obviously in my case, neither of both ways is working. Both of them should, or am I wrong? schup011's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=66557 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=114921 ___ unix mailing list unix@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/unix

[SlimDevices: Unix] piCorePlayer: Radio is streamed with wrong frequency
Hi, I have a very strange problem discovered very recently, but seems to be there for years: I use a radio stream of german BR Klassik very often (https://streams.br.de/br-klassik_3.m3u). And I soemtimes wondered why there were some jumps, i.e. the radio seamed to be behind and then left something out in order to be on time again. Now I discovered that the stream is played to slow, that means frequency of music is also too low by ~10% (probably 44 kHz vs. 48 kHz). If I use the AAC stream of the same station, unfortunately with only 64 kBit (https://br-brklassik-live.cast.addradio.de/br/brklassik/live/aac/low), everything runs well. I tested also all my other favourite radio streams. All mp3 have the same problems, all aac are ok. This problem occurs with my living room setup: piCorePlayer 6.1, Jivelite 7'' touchscreen, HDMI audio out to Marantz Receiver. (Does not depend on the piCorePLayer version, occured also with pCP 5) It does not occur with my kirchen setup: piCorePlayer 6.0, headless, JustBoom AmpZero. Strangely, I can also sync kitchen to living room (or vice versa), then both run at the lower frequency. If I sync another player to the two (SqueezePlayer on Android), the two pCPs go at the lower frequency, and the SqueezePlayer with the higher frequency runs away. Does anyone have a clue? Unfortunately, I cannot update the first pCP to more recent versions because HDMI audio out does not work then in conjunction with the JiveLite 7'' touchscreen. I suspect this has to do with the Marantz HDMI and seems to be connected with 48kHz, mp3. The 44.1 kHz mp3 streams from my music collection work flawlessly, also the 48 kHz flacs. schup011's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=66557 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=114921 ___ unix mailing list unix@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/unix
Re: [SlimDevices: Unix] piCorePlayer: Radio is streamed with wrong frequency
paul- wrote: > Could the mp3 have invalid headers? That could be, I cannot really tell. But what I can say is that those 48 kHz mp3 streams work on the "KitchenPlayer" that has a JustBoom DAC and on the Android SqueezePlayer. They only are too slow on the player with the HDMI audio output. And it does not matter whether it is a mp3 from radio or one in my music library. schup011's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=66557 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=114921 ___ unix mailing list unix@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/unix

LMS just does not play the other ones (I press play, then it shortly checks the stream and control goes back to stopped after 1-2s without having played anything). With -r 44100,48000 the 48 kHz streams play again, but with the problem I had described before (too slow). So if this occurs only with mp3 and the output to the HDMI interface is always supposed to be PCM, doesn't that mean that this problem must lie in Squeezelite, as flac and aac work without problems? BTW: I tried both "Direct streaming" and "Streaming via Proxy" as LMS settings for this specific player. schup011's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=66557 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=114921 ___ unix mailing list unix@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/unix

The original problem was that 48 kHz MP3 were played too slowly, probably as if they were 44.1 kHz. The problem does not occur with flac 48 or aac 48. Then it was proposed to force LMS to transcode instead of Squeezelite. Therefore, I used the Squeezelite settings to exclude MP3 from the codecs it would use. But this does not work either because LMS somehow can't find a conversion rule. So with that Squeezelite setting, the MP3 files are not played at all anymore. schup011's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=66557 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=114921 ___ unix mailing list unix@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/unix

Put the 'player.source' loglevel to 'debug' and try again It was at debug all the time, for all those excerpts from the log except for the very first one in post #19. schup011's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=66557 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=114921 ___ unix mailing list unix@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/unix

You can verify with the radio stream: https://streams.br.de/br-klassik_3.m3u But I think is a very typical one. And it happens only with the HDMI audio out system Could be a performance or timing problem?? schup011's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=66557 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=114921 ___ unix mailing list unix@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/unix

It does only occur with 48 kHz mp3 files or streams. I will check whether the Squeezelite log looks the same with the 48 kHz mp3 radio stream. To my knowledge, I have only this one file with 48 kHz mp3, because usually, in my library, I only have flac. There are some CD downloads with mp3, but those are 44.1 kHz. schup011's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=66557 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=114921 ___ unix mailing list unix@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/unix

Would they fail to play? I can confirm what bpa describes. I also have tested with flac and everything works fine. In my case, only the 48 kHz MP3 failed and was too slow. I could even let run two players the same MP3 48 kHz radio stream, one with the startup time to 1s, one with no start up time, without sync, and the one without start up time would run away from the other. Couldn't those lines in the code be tracked back when they were introduced or changed in order to understand what the reason for introducing this feature was? ---- schup011's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=66557 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=114921 ___ unix mailing list unix@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/unix
