and has never been there.  Trying to simply uninstall 7.6.03 fails
exactly the same way as does hiding the Libre Office folder and
attempting a "clean" install.

How do I fix this without buying a new machine (64 bit Windows 10)?

Thank you,

Graeme

PS.  Trying to install version 26.2 fails similarly

Why don't you do the obvious and remove all previous versions prior to
installing the required update?

I recommend that you re-install LibreOffice from the source

As Robert has said, this is completely wrong. Under Debian 11 the file

My guess is that you installed LibreOffice from an Ubuntu repository,

4.    Click Print.

In view of the foregoing it would appear that disappearance of the

If you are trying to install the HTML Help from the current version on

It's more than a bit extreme, but changing the permissions on the
reference files would work, with possible side-effects. i.e. Libre

its inability to do so.

Not a good idea if one wanted to auto-save the "live" document, however
depress F1 and search for "auto" in Help.

Just a guess, but why not open the "reference only" documents as read
only? I imagine that LibreOffice will not auto save such documents, but
if it does I would suggest that that's a bug.

It works for me on up to date Windows 10. You haven't specified your

Just a suggestion: Import the Harley image into inkscape, create a new

If you use a table for your layout then placing an image in the
background behaves as you would wish. Sadly LibreOffice uses a
frame-based layout for labels and that might be where your problem lies.

I do not experience problems with my Avery business card stock using the
table based approach.

I've discovered, at least with my new Libre Office 4.3.5.2, that I can
open a PDF or .jpg in Writer and not have to open Draw.

No you can't! You may start in Writer, but when you open a PDF file you
should observe a switch to Draw. See the title bar to confirm.

I can also insert images (from file) into these respective documents
and then print them to a PDF, if desired, or save as .odt, MS Word,
 etc.

I would be very surprised if you are able to save as anything other than
a Draw document (.odg), or Draw template. Of course you will be able to
*print* as a PDF after editing.

Happy New Year

Further to my last post, this behaviour is not consistent. Since my

repeated the test: the table can be consistently inserted and deleted.

Presently I've no idea what's going on, but a workaround for afflicted

Yes! Using frames for label production has been a thorn in my hide for

Last time I printed labels using LO, I just used a .doc label template

That can be a pain for some people, but it works the best for me.

Table style templates have worked great for me, with very accurate

and LibreOffice together for about 8 years. American size table style
templates are available here:

American Letter size to go with a tutorial as wot I wrote.

Download LibO_3.6.4.3_Linux_x86-64_install-deb_en-US.tar.gz to the
desktop. Right click on it and extract it to the desktop. This will
give you the folder LibO_3.6.4.3_Linux_x86-64_install-deb_en-US Run
the following terminal commands to install it: 1. sudo apt-get remove
libreoffice*.* 2. sudo dpkg -i
~/Desktop/LibO_3.6.4.3_Linux_x86-64_install-deb_en-US/DEBS/*.deb 3.
sudo dpkg -i
~/Desktop/LibO_3.6.4.3_Linux_x86-64_install-deb_en-US/DEBS/desktop-integration/libreoffice3.6-debian-menus_3.6.4-3_all.deb

A shorter option is as follows:
1 Download the appropriate file(s)
2 tar zxvf ./wherever you downloaded to/downloaded '.tar./gz' file
3 sudo dpkg -iR ./as above/extracted installation directory/DEBS

The 'R' option, as suggested by it's character, invokes a recursive
operation on all .deb files in all sub-directories, thus avoiding the
redundant operation on the desktop integration stuff.

I then create a document and insert a horizontal line and sync the
labels and print it.

In my view the horizontal line should be printed every 4.8cm (6 times),
however they print a little off, difficult to measure but I would say
they are about 4.75cm apart.

Obviously my real label will have more then a horizontal line, at the
top it has an image, with a return address text to the right and then
further down a mail merge will print the address.

The labels do not fit on the paper correctly, the first 3 rows are fine,
but then it goes off too much to be usable.

I was on 3.5.x, when googling about this I noticed some posts about
alignment issues with avery labels which are fixed in 3.0.x, so I
upgraded to 3.6.1 but I still see the same issue.

Is this a know issue?

Werner

P.S.
Is there a way of changing the label definition on an existing document,
or do I really have to start all over again each time I want to
adjust/fine tune my label layout?

O.K.
I take it that no answer here on the list means that either no one uses
mail merge with labels or just printing to labels using a custom format.

I will open an issue on the bug tracker later today. In the mean time I
installed WordPerfect 11 (2003) and defined my custom label and it
prints without issues, i.e. correctly aligned.

I am not complaining, as besides the label handling I have mostly
converted over to OO and LibreOffice for some time now. But I have to
say the label definition and handling in general is I am sorry to say
ugly/archaic. I strongly suggest to look at this maybe for 3.7 and if
so take a very very close look at the old WP interface which is hundred
times more intuitive then the current LO one when it comes to label
definition/changing and general label/merge handling.

Werner

Hello Werner,

you might also want to look at creating your label template(s) with a
table, rather than the curious frame based system used currently by
LibreOffice. It's what I do and it is very successful. I find that I
have more accurate control over the layout with this method.

Peter, how do you control vertical height of the table frames?

I just had difficulties creating labels myself. Very laborious for me using
frames and sections. I tried tables shortly after starting the
frame/section method but just couldn't find any way to specify the height
of individual cells in the tables so abandoned it and went back to frames
and sections.

I'm not sure that I follow your question. I previously said that I use
tables, *rather* than frames for labelling purposes, so your conjunction
of tables and frames does not compute. :-)

Obviously cell height gives the control of individual table cells so as
long as the top margin is set correctly everything else follows. (unless
you're a fellow Englishman who prefers something a little more
sophisticated than the metric measuring system, then you might have to
indulge in a little sleight of hand to achieve accuracy.)

If Avery label stock is your starting point I have a variety of
templates that I'm happy to share.

Anyone else having issues?

No problems here with fully updated Win7 64bit plus jre 1.7 Update 5. I
assume that you know you have to use the 32 bit Java with Win 7? At
least you used to and that's what I keep and have tested here.

[libreoffice-users] LibreOffice 3.5 with Lubuntu

2012-07-22 Thread Peter Hillier-Brook
I'm running LO 3.5 under Lubuntu 12.04 and, until recently the relevant
icons appeared under Office in the menu system. Now they don't and I
have to start the program via the command line. Any ideas anyone?

For information the installation is the real LO installed via dpkg,
not the Ubuntu build with its attendant problems. :-)

Thanks for your work on these templates.
There is a nice advantage for the regular labels: the option to
synchronise all labels with changes on the first label.

Hello Cor,

many thanks for your response, despite you not having seen my template
set. ;-) I created them for my own use, but then decided that they might
enjoy wider usage so I wrote a simple tutorial and made the package
available as a .zip archive.

With regard to your comments about synchronisation, this is a coding
function and not inherently dependant upon the frame basis, rather than
the more logical table approach. If the code was written in 'C' rather
than 'C++' I might be tempted to fix it, but I can't stand over-verbose
languages and avoid the latter like the plague. :-)

I.m guessing that you are referring to borders and I'm also guessing

Hint. If they have appeared on multiple documents it is likely that the
border formatting is applied via a page style that you commonly use.

Probably not, the MSWorks WPS filter was never perfect and I doubt
that it will be improved. The LibO project is phasing out the former
binary filters that were required to open StarOffice binary formats,
so it is unlikely that any developers are going to be interested in
improving the WPS import filter.

You can't use the 64 bit JRE with LibreOffice on Windows: it's a 32 bit

I don't see how it could be any more clear. From the menu bar select
Help/LibreOfficeHelp then type the word 'default' in the search box.
This brings you to default templates. from where you click on

The first paragraph is the key item, but it does presuppose that you
understand the use of styles, specifically page styles. This is where

dpkg --help will answer all questions. This is a function of dpkg and is
nothing to do with Ubuntu. Suffice to say, the 'R' option causes dpkg to
recursively install all .debs is the target directory.
