Re: [libreoffice-users] trouble installing fonts to use with Libre Office
Hi Niklas, all, sorry for the late reply, I was busy and had only very little time available. I've made a screenshot, that shows more exact what I see: https://drive.google.com/open?id=0B4yUNaph-X3ZdlFnTFllUUFhQU5MMVRRcWRNNTlQeG9EMnZB The really weird thing is, this problem occurs on my private laptop at home. On my workstation at the office with an older version of Ubuntu 2014.04 (LTS) and the corresponding (older) LibreOffice version, I see everything correct. Fonts are installed on both computers in the very same way... I hope it is more clear now. :) Thanks for any ideas. [libreoffice-users] trouble installing fonts to use with Libre Office
Hi, I have some trouble with LibreOffice recognizing the different weights for some fonts I have installed. Some basic info first: LibreOffice 5.2.1.2 Ubuntu 2016.04 I installed several fonts (otf / ttf files). I downloaded the fonts from either Google fonts or font squirrel and installed them all in the correct directory, where all the other fonts are as well. When I check in the Font Manager in Ubuntu, everything is ok, and all the different weights and styles are there. However, when I start LibreOffice, I see for some of those fonts only 1 style in the dropdown list, whereas for others I see all the different weights and styles. While in the font manager, I can't see any different behaviour between the affected fonts. Any ideas what I can try to solve the issue? Thanks for any ideas you might have. Hi William, you got a reply from Brian Barker, already on 1 January. He replied only to the list, that might be the reason, why you thought you didn't get a reply. I copy and paste his reply to you here again. But next time, please make sure, that you look on the list or in the online archives, if you really don't have a reply. Sigrid copy of Brian's reply: At 08:15 31/12/2015 -0500, William Drescher wrote: > I have a three col table inside of 3 linked frames. I would like to add a > Checkbox in table cell. I suspect that I am > missing a step. > The help text talks of clicking the toolbar icon of the required control and dragging in the document to create the control. You sound as if you have tried to drag from the toolbar to the document, but this is not what is meant. Instead: o Click the toolbar icon. o Move the cursor back into the document. o Notice that the cursor has changed from the normal I-beam to cross hairs with a subsidiary rectangle. o Now drag the cursor from one corner of your desired rectangle to the opposite. To create an accurate square, hold down the Shift key as you release the mouse button. o To cancel insert mode, choose any one: click the icon again, or click in the document without dragging, or press Esc. I trust this helps. Fwd: [libreoffice-users] Help me please
Hi, Danny replied to me directly, not the mailing list. Since there is nothing personal or confidential in the email, I forward it to the list. (Please be also aware, that Danny is not subscribed to the list, his email was moderated). My guess would be, that he has some flavour of Windows on his machines. How you can disable the functionality, that you cannot install some software packages, I have no idea. I have seen something similar on my work laptop, where there are some settings, that are handled / administered by our IT department, that I cannot change. If nothing works, I would vote for re-installing Windows, but maybe someone else here on the list has an idea how to disable that? On the Tab "Options" you can uncheck the "Capitalize first letter of every sentence." 2) I type seller:. on the next line I create an underline about 3 inches long for the name, etc. of the seller. LO changes my 3" underline to all the way across the page. In addition, it is not a character based underline. I cannot delete it, shorten it, etc. I cannot select it, as if it were an object. My only solution is to delete the file and start again. There is an option in the same tab that reads "Apply border", I believe that is what is happening here. Writer is changing the underline to a border at the bottom of the paragraph. If it happens, you could just press the backspace and then Writer should undo the change. Hi Tom, Urmas was put to forced moderation only recently. We are under strict orders to let only those posts through, that do not insult anyone on the list. Even though we don't let everything through to the list from him, he still can send out emails directly to the people in question. I don't think that there is much use in banning him from the mailing lists itself, since he could just register a new email address and re-subscribe with this new address. Re: [libreoffice-users] Restore Windows Bug
Hi Amy, - Did you already reboot your computer? If not, please do. - Which documents does LibreOffice want to restore? Do you have a path? If yes, please go to the given directory and see, if there is a *.lck file, which has a similar name like the original file, that LibreOffice wants to restore. You can safely delete this *.lck file. - If you don't see such a file, please check your file manager and see, if you can change it in such a way to show hidden files. Once the *.lck file is deleted try to restart LibreOffice. It should work now and start as normal. Hope this helps. I run the German version of LibreOffice and "Standardformatierung" (Default formatting) is the very first entry under the menu entry "Format" for me. Which component are you using? Writer? Or something else like Calc or Impress? If you're using Writer, you can also try to insert copied text by using CTRL+ALT+Shift+V, this pastes text automatically as "text only", no formatting. Unfortunately, this combination doesn't work in the other components. And one more question: How did you try to apply your formatting? And what type of formatting? Paragraph format, character format or page format? Depending on what you're trying to achieve, you have to apply different strategies to reach that goal. When you copy from another source, insert with CTRL+Shift+V instead of only CTRL+V. There you can choose to insert as "text only". Once you did this, you can then apply the formatting you want. If you cannot "recopy" the text that is already copied, you could mark this text, go to Format > Default formatting and once this is done, you can apply again the formatting that you want. There is a speed difference for the different JRE's if you're using the BASE component from LibreOffice. So, since it is possible, to have several JRE's installed in one OS, the "recommendation" is to use the latest JRE for everything except LibreOffice. Does this make sense? Tom, please, don't give advice like this one above. Ulrik is already used to use styles and he should do the same thing with LibreOffice too. Using styles makes changing the formatting of your document so much easier... I don't want to manually reformat every heading, when my boss wants to have headings with "Liberation Sans, 16 pt, bold" instead of the used "Liberation Serif 14 pt, italic". That's a horrible work and so error prone. Use styles and you have that change done in a second. @Ulrik Just follow Regina's advice! She gave you the right hints. What is the used file format? Did you save it in the ODF format (like .odt, .ods, .odp...) or is it in one of the Microsoft formats? If it is in the ODF format, you should make a copy of the file, rename it to .zip and then try to open it with any archive manager you like. Your text will be in the file called "content.xml". You can open this file and copy everything into a new document. If it is in the Microsoft formats, than I'm afraid, but you've lost the work and have to recreate it from scratch. You need to download and install the help-pack in that language, that you need. Just go to the download page and instead of the program scroll a bit down and choose the help pack (and also possibly the language pack - depending on your operating system) for your system. Once it is installed, your installation of LibO will use the local help instead of the wiki help. Can you check the format of your cells with the times? Or better, the cells, that will contain your results. The format code should look like this: [HH]:MM:SS The square brackets around the HH indicate, that you can get more than 24 hours in total. Subtracting the start time from the end time should be sufficient. Hope this helps. Do you see a LibreOffice icon in the task bar close to the clock on your computer? Looks probably like a sheet of paper with a folded edge. If you see this icon, do a left click on it. Then a menu will appear. Click on "Deactivate quick starter" (or something similar - I use the German version). Once you've done this, you can install the new version of LibreOffice. Hope this helps. I would save the spreadsheet as ods, since this is the native format of LibO / OOo. MS Office should be able to open those files as well, since MS claims to have support for the OpenDocument File format. But to be on the save side, you can save your files again as xls before sending them to the other people. It is possible, that the software appears on the mirrors before it is officially announced. You do want the software to be in place when you announce it, so that everyone can get his copy. ;) As for the renaming: If there are no more critical bugs found in the last rc, the file will be renamed. There's no need to compile it again, since there were no major problems. So, if you have rc3 and now the new final version is announced, you don't need to do anything - you have already the latest version. Writer (or better LibreOffice) can do autosave, but it does not by default. To activate autosave, go to "Tools > Options > Load/Save > General" and set the value you want. I have ticked the box that says "Always create a backup file" and "Save Auto recovery information every 15 Minutes". (The number can be changed by you). So in your current situation, I'm afraid, you need to recreate the missing parts from memory. For your points 5 and 6 you are hard formatting the appearance of the text. Instead do the following: Highlight the text of your point 5, press F11 to get the styles and formatting window, and modify the corresponding (highlighted) style, that is applied to this text. Do the same for the formatting of your outline numbering. > > The size of the outline numbering no longer changes to match the text. > The outline numbering is fixed the same font, size, weight everywhere. This is probably because hard formatted text takes precedence over applied styles. To remove your hard formatting mark (highlight) all your text and select "Default formatting". Once this is done, you can modify the styles for the outline numbering in any way you want - but use the styles and formatting window to do this. :) HTH Sigrid -- Unsubscribe instructions: E-mail to users+h...@libreoffice.org Posting guidelines + more: http://wiki.documentfoundation.org/Netiquette List archive: http://listarchives.libreoffice.org/www/users/ All messages sent to this list will be publicly archived and cannot be deleted

PDF is a format to describe a graphical layout of a document. And for graphics, Draw is the correct component. It is not meant to edit a file extensively. You can add a few lines of text in a form (I did this just last week) and it works well. If you need to change the whole text, just ask the original creator for a editable file. Two questions: 1.) How did I lock it? and 2.) How > do I go about unlocking it? TIA for any suggestions. The locking is done automatically by the software, so that two users cannot work together on the same file and one overwriting the changes of the other. To unlock change first the setting within nautilus to show the hidden files. Then go into the same directory, where your file is and you'll see there a file with a similar name that ends in .lck. Delete this file and you can edit your original file again as before. I believe, this will help. The germanophone OOo project asked MS Germany about this and the answer we got was that we would need permission from MS. (André, if I'm wrong, please correct me). The usual way is using swriter scalc simpress and so on to start the individual modules. But since you have both OOo and LibO installed, you might want to call the app with the complete path to make sure, that the correct one starts. Once you've done this, you could create some aliases like owriter and lwriter to be able to differentiate between the two software packages. Re: [libreoffice-users] Fill cells with hatched lines/patterns
Hi Scott, On Wed, 23 Feb 2011 13:19:43 -0500 Scott Jones wrote: > Is there a way to Fill cells in LO Calc with hatched lines/patterns? I could have sworn, that there is such a possibility in the Format > Cell menu. But when I checked I couldn't find a tab where you can define your own patterns (like dashed lines) to put into the background of a cell. Maybe I mix it up with another software (very likely). You can use your own pictures for the background. So if you need such a pattern, why not make it yourself? I have no idea, if this is a good idea at all, or how much work it takes... it just crossed my mind. Do you have the option to choose "Open with..."? If so, select this entry and in the popup that appears, just select LibreOffice. That is odd. This behaviour should only appear, when you have a .pps file. How do you open the file? Do you just double click on it? Or do you go there from inside the software? If you try to open it from the file manager, try the following: Click on the file so that it is marked (highlighted). Then do a right click with the mouse. >From the context menu try "open with LibreOffice 3.3" instead of "Open with >LibreOffice Impress". I've learned that there should be a difference between those two options just a few days before on the users list. Please try and report back if it helped. Thanks. > PS : Sorry if I've done some english mistakes, I'm french and I'm learning > english in school. Btw, I think your English is really good! Hi, I've forwarded your mail to the germanspeaking discuss-list, where the members of the "box-team" are very active. I'm sure, that one of them will reply soon to your offer, Tim. ;) Sigrid On Wed, 09 Feb 2011 15:35:44 -0500 webmaster for Kracked Press Productions wrote: > On 02/09/2011 01:16 PM, Marc Paré wrote: > > Le 2011-02-09 12:10, Tom Davies a écrit : [...] > > > Well I created a temporary DVD for LibreOffice. > > 1) With the English version for Windows, both Mac, and Linux in 32 and > 64 bit for DEB and RPM > 2) Documentation from LibreOffice.org and OOo for the parts that LO has > not done yet - PDF format > 3) a large number of add on extensions > 4) large number of templates > 5) all the clipart I have for it > > taking about 4.0 gig on the DVD. > > I did not include any auto-launcher or HTML file for giving you > instructions on how > to install the various platforms.
