I was given a DOC file where the writer had apparently typed Shift-Enter
instead of Enter at the ends of paragraphs.
How can I find and replace these with actual paragraph marks?

I opened a Word doc in Writer and found that almost all of the lines in
the table of contents were marked Error: Reference source not found.
In addition, the corresponding lines in the body had the same addenda.
By opening the doc in Word, I found that the TOC was built with

I tried to export a document to XHTML and an error message The selected
JRE is defective.
So I downloaded and installed the latest one. (It uninstalled the
previous version beforeit would install itself.)
No joy.
