Understood!
Actually CentOS 6 guest graphics protocol was configured as "SPICE + VNC"
and this was the reason of "QEMU_AUDIO_DRV=none"
Changing it to "SPICE", now I have "QEMU_AUDIO_DRV=spice" in guest logfile
and also test speakers working inside guest.

Is this expected? I thought that the "+" would have given an aggregate of
functionalities, not a limitation... because initialy I wanted to test both
spice and vnc access...
If this is the case, probably a note or tool-tip could be useful for the
final user because it is not so immediate to correlate video with audio...

So, some revamping of information as some time has passed and new guests
have been nstalled on the same system:

Engine version (self hosted) : oVirt Engine Version: 3.6.6.2-1.el7.centos

Host OS : CentOS 7.2 with kernel 3.10.0-327.18.2.el7.x86_64

Host hw : intel NUC6i5SYH

Client is Fedora 23 with virt-viewer-3.0-1.fc23.x86_64

With a Fedora 24 guest accessed using firefox, user portal and
remote-viewer, sounds are ok (test speakers).
The Fedora 24 guest is configured as "Optimized for Desktop", in its
console options, advanced parameters, I have "soundcard enabled"

And in web admin portal I see this line in f24 VM bottom pane, label "Vm
devices":
https://drive.google.com/file/d/0BwoPbcrMv8mvU0tQZTNBVmZVcTg/view?usp=sharing

Also for a CentOS 7.2 guest, with same config, sound is ok (test speakers)
Instead for a CentOS 6.8 guest with same config I see the device inside the
OS, but no sound:

https://drive.google.com/file/d/0BwoPbcrMv8mvbHRLSDBueVZObTA/view?usp=sharing

In CentOS 6.8 the audio device is seen as:
00:08.0 Audio device: Intel Corporation 82801FB/FBM/FR/FW/FRW (ICH6 Family)
High Definition Audio Controller (rev 01)

and it seems the same in CentOS 7.2 guest OS:
00:08.0 Audio device: Intel Corporation 82801FB/FBM/FR/FW/FRW (ICH6 Family)
High Definition Audio Controller (rev 01)

Under /var/log/libvirt/qemu of host I indeed see

C6 c6desktop.log:

2016-08-25 23:00:37.668+: starting up libvirt version: 1.2.17, package:
13.el7_2.4 (CentOS Build
System , 2016-03-31-16:56:26,
worker1.bsys.centos.org), qemu version: 2.3.0
(qemu-kvm-ev-2.3.0-31.el7_2.10.1)
LC_ALL=C PATH=/usr/local/sbin:/usr/local/bin:/usr/sbin:/usr/bin
QEMU_AUDIO_DRV=none /usr/libexec/qem
u-kvm -name c6desktop ...

C7 c7desktop.log :

2016-08-25 22:59:02.531+: starting up libvirt version: 1.2.17, package:
13.el7_2.4 (CentOS Build
System , 2016-03-31-16:56:26,

(qemu-kvm-ev-2.3.0-31.el7_2.10.1)
LC_ALL=C PATH=/usr/local/sbin:/usr/local/bin:/usr/sbin:/usr/bin
QEMU_AUDIO_DRV=spice /usr/libexec/qe
mu-kvm -name c7desktop ...

Apparently all is the same in qemu-kvm command lines, comparing c6 with c7
one, but I don't understand who drives instead the QEMU_AUDIO_DRV=XXX in
log file that is different between the two guests (none vs spice) and btw
also in f24 it is spice:

2016-07-31 23:00:44.778+: starting up libvirt version: 1.2.17, package:
13.el7_2.4 (CentOS Build
System , 2016-03-31-16:56:26,

LC_ALL=C PATH=/usr/local/sbin:/usr/local/bin:/usr/sbin:/usr/bin
QEMU_AUDIO_DRV=spice /usr/libexec/qe
mu-kvm -name f24 ...

Could it be that initially c6 was created as optimized for server and then
even if changing it to optimized for desktop, it doesn't get actually some
parts of the change?

Or something related to ich6 drivers in CentOS 6?

In messages of C6 guest I see:
Aug 26 01:00:58 localhost kernel: snd_hda_intel :00:08.0: PCI INT A ->
Link[LNKD] -> GSI 10 (level, high) -> IRQ 10

[ovirt-users] Software RAID installation fails

2016-08-25 Thread Brian Moyer
When I attempt to install oVirt Node (newest ISO;
ovirt-node-ng-installer-ovirt-4.0-2016062412.iso), the installer fails
at the very end with the following error if any software RAIDs are
defined in storage options.

There was an error running the kickstart script at line 7 . This is a fatal
error and installation will be aborted. The details of this error are:
[INFO] Trying to create a manageable base from '/'

This occurs with standard RAID volumes, with an LVM volume defined on
top of RAID, and any combination thereof. When the installer is allowed
to pick it's own storage scheme, it works fine. All of my testing has
been done on blank physical disks or newly created virtual disks. The
anaconda and storage logs don't appear to be very useful.

Has anyone else come across this? Thoughts on workarounds or where I
should be looking next to track down a solution?

Thanks,
Brian

Re: [ovirt-users] change tmp directory when importing VMs

2016-08-25 Thread Cam Mac
Sorry to reply to my own post, but if the GUI uses virt-v2v, there is a
TMPDIR option in there which defaults to /var/tmp, so my guess is that this
is what sets it, the only question is: how do I do this for the GUI? I've
had a poke around in /etc/ovirt* on the engine host and nodes, but haven't
seen it anywhere.

Re: [ovirt-users] how to debug no audio in guest?

2016-08-25 Thread Jakub Niedermertl
Hi Gianluca,

QEMU_AUDIO_DRV=none is most probably the problem. Libvirt is supposed to set
"QEMU_AUDIO_DRV" to "spice" for VMs with graphics. Please make sure that the
"Optimize for" attribute is set to "Desktop" (in Edit VM dialog) and try to
shutdown and start the VM again. If the QEMU process will still have
QEMU_AUDIO_DRV=none set, you can try to set the variable in
/etc/sysconfig/libvirtd by adding line "QEMU_AUDIO_DRV=spice" and restart the
libvirtd service.

'Please provide the address of THIS host.' means that you have to
enter/validate the address of the host you are going to add (the host
where you are running hosted-engine --deploy command).

Let's try to recap:
the fqdn of your engine VM is 'vm-rhemgr.mydomain.com',
the fqdn of your host is currently 'localhost.localdomain' but it's
not acceptable (try to run 'ssh localhost.localdomain' on the engine
VM and see where are you getting...)

So you have just to configure a valid fqdn on your additional host
(something like 'my2ndhost.mydomain.com') and confirm it when asked by
that question.

Normally we suggest to rely on a properly configured DNS; you can just
work entering values under '/etc/hosts' but it's up to you to properly
maintain it:
- the engine VM should be able to resolve the address of all the hosts
to contact them: this is not true in your env, with
'localhost.localdomain' your engine VM will not reach your host...
- each host should be able to resolve the address of all the other
hosts and also the address of the engine VM: this is not true in your
env as I read 'RuntimeError: vm-rhemgr.mydomain.com did not resolve
into an IP address'

I disagree. In most cases, it's actually a lower layer issues. In most
cases, btw, it's because multipathing was not configured (or not configured
correctly).

Did you open bugs for those issues? I'm not aware of 'no real reason'

We've had good success and reliability with most enterprise level storage,
such as EMC, NetApp, Dell filers.
When properly configured, of course.

We are using oVirt + iSCSI, but using bonding mode 1 (active/passive)
and no multipathing.

It is running OK. So far.

its supersensitive to latency, and superfast with setting an host to
inactive because the engine thinks something is wrong with it. in most
cases there was no real reason for.

You are not wrong...

we had this in several different hardware combinations, self built
filers up on FreeBSD/Illumos & ZFS, Equallogic SAN, Nexenta Filer

Been there, done that, wont do again.

Thank you, I take this as a warning. :)

For my testbed I chose to ignore the iSCSI-bond feature and change the
multipath default to round robin instead.

What kind of storage do you use in production? Fibre channel, gluster,
ceph, ...?

currently, iscsi multipathed with solaris based filer as backend. but
this is already in progress of getting migrated to a different, less
fragile, plattform. ovirt is nice, but too bleeding edge and way to much

Indeed

I suspect you could do a host pass-through to the host DVD drive, but I

Y.

It is possible, but we don't have the logic to set boot order of host
devices. It is therefore possible with a hook or by being lucky enough
to have guest firmware probe the correct device.

I have to copy it to hard drive and include it in storage domain?

Using the ISO Storage Domain is one way to solve this.
You might also use glance or image uploader, but you still won't get away
from the copy operation

Hi,

Yes, I'm aware of that, the issue there is. If you want to remove a
host you first need to edit all pinned hosts, a fall back to Any Host
In Cluster would be nice when you remove the host.

Maybe I should have asked my question different :)

Raw is always raw-sparse, so that may explain this somehow, yet still odd that
Windows installation would cause so much fragmentation.
I wonder if using the discard hook (and IDE or virtio-scsi) would help - or
perhaps using a qcow2 makes more sense (create a snapshot right after disk
creation for example).

When you say its still visible, you mean you can still see it in the heat map
at the bottom right? Does it still show in the donut chart (right one) and
does it also still show in the top inventory count?

In the edit VM dialog, if you show advanced options, there is a 'host' sub tab
on the left. If you select that, there is a 'start running on' option. You can
select the specific hosts(s) radio button. That will enable the multi select
box that allows you to select a list of hosts this VM can run on. I think that
will do what you are trying to do?

currently, iscsi multipathed with solaris based filer as backend. but
this is already in progress of getting migrated to a different, less
fragile, plattform. ovirt is nice, but too bleeding edge and way to much
acting like a girly

[ovirt-users] change tmp directory when importing VMs

2016-08-25 Thread Cam Mac
Hi,

I'm importing VMs in ova format, and the size of the disk images (vmdk) is
such that it fills up the partition where /var/tmp is located when
untarring the ova. Can this be set to somewhere else?

Thanks,

No, you have just to use a sensate globally resolvable FQDN for your
additional host: 'localhost.localdomain' is not.

Currently it is missing. You have to run *"engine-config -s

Please rise an RFE so that we can enable this in next release.

This is that part that confused me a bit : I need to set up a new FQDN for the
engine, but a different one right ? So each engine on each node needs a
different FQDN ?

I don't get what you mean here, if there are two host in this cluster
without pinning it would chose whatever it wants.

If I create a seperate cluster for each host, I cannot have VM's which
coult be running on each.

It's more an and/and/or issue

Re: [ovirt-users] can't import vm from KVM host

2016-08-25 Thread Nelson Lameiras
Thanks for your answer. I do not think that I'm experiencing that same bug
exactly.

The issue 1362525 (below) concerns a KVM VM with iSCSI disk being importend to
RHEV that does not perform well.

In my case, when oVirt GUI proposes me the list of machines on KVM host to
import, each machine as a "disk count" next to it.
- This "disk count" is correct if the VM has it's storage on a raw/qcow file
(local) - and import goes well
- But "disk count" is 0 (always) if the VM has it's storage on a block device
(ie iscsi) - and import is not possible at all!

It seems to me that current oVirt migration tool is unable to read/analyse
distant VM machines with block device storage... Maybe I'm analysing this issue
wrongly.

Thanks,
nelson

This is exactly what I've done but it stills asks me those question about FQDN,
hostname and password, and as we can see it seems to find the answer file :

hosted-engine --deploy
[ INFO ] Stage: Initializing
[ INFO ] Generating a temporary VNC password.
[ INFO ] Stage: Environment setup

Hi,

Did you install ovirt-engine-dwh during the upgrade? Was it installed
before?
If it is installed , Can you please check the ovirt-engine-dwh.log file for
errors?
If not, It must be installed in order to view the Dashboards. It is
collecting the statistics used for the dashboards.

No, it's not: you have to point to the same storage server you used
for the first host, hosted-engine-setup will detect the existing
installation and it will ask if you are going to add an additional
host.
At that point it will consume the answer file saved on the shared storage.

[ovirt-users] 3.6 : Hosted engine High Availability

2016-08-25 Thread Alexis HAUSER
Hi,

I'm trying to "deploy" the hosted engine (3.6) on a second node for HA. I used
hosted-engine --delpoy, answering the script questions it's a new host setup.

However it is requesting me for a FQDN, an engine name and a password for
admin@internal. Is this a normal behavior ?

It seems very strange to me that the configuration isn't taken from the hosted
engine storage, do you think I forgot a step ?

Re: [ovirt-users] Adding iSCSI Storage

2016-08-25 Thread Anantha Raghava

Hello Elad,

Thanks for quick reply. That was really quick.

Your assessment was right. On the iSCSI storage multiple iSCSI
initiators were disabled. Hence the authorisation error. Once I enabled
the multiple iSCSI initiator support, the primary storage domain came
live and DC also went live.

However, I am still confused on iSCSI mutipathing and bonding. Will try
creating bonds and write back if I get stuck.

From engine.log [1] it seems that you had an iSCSI authorization
failure during login to targets for first storage domain creation in
pool. It happened during storage pool creation.

It does seem you've hit
https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1359788
 since you report
this domain is stuck in LOCKED state.

The workaround for this is to update the DB and change the domain status.
Or, if possible, I'd suggest to clean the setup and create a new
data-center.
For first storage domain creation in the new DC, in case it's iSCSI,
please make sure you provide the correct iSCSI credentials for login
or use other type of storage (NFS for example).

[ovirt-users] Enable Gluster service during hosted-engine deploy

2016-08-25 Thread Renout Gerrits
Hi all,

Is there a way to enable the Gluster Service for a cluster in the hosted
engine deploy?
In the config append you make the gluster service available with:
OVESETUP_CONFIG/applicationMode=str:both. But how would one enable it?
I would like to enable it automatically. Now I change it afterwards with
API, but after the change I have to put the hosts into maintenance and
activate them again. It would seems there must be a better way to do this.

Thanks,

Hi Jürgen,

Am 24.08.2016 um 17:15 schrieb InterNetX - Juergen Gotteswinter:

iSCSI & Ovirt is an awful combination, no matter if multipathed or
bonded. its always gambling how long it will work, and when it fails why
did it fail.

its supersensitive to latency, and superfast with setting an host to
inactive because the engine thinks something is wrong with it. in most
cases there was no real reason for.

we had this in several different hardware combinations, self built
filers up on FreeBSD/Illumos & ZFS, Equallogic SAN, Nexenta Filer

Been there, done that, wont do again.

Thank you, I take this as a warning. :)

For my testbed I chose to ignore the iSCSI-bond feature and change the

What kind of storage do you use in production? Fibre channel, gluster,
