I'm regularly migrating some VMs (and stopping and starting and playing with them) with no issue, and they all are using thin provisioned disks! Could this be a common factor of the problem? also, can you please attach engine, vdsm, libvirt and the vm's qemu logs? Relevant logs : Ok, I'm in the process of collecting the logs and posting them in a useable manner. More to come. Ok, once again, I ran a test and observed the relevant logs. I did not know what that meant (but RTFMed since), and this does not appear to disturb the other VMs - Many VMs including the problematic one have been imported from ovirt-v2v with now such issue. - This particular VM was also imported, but the starting point was a vmdk or ova single file. - Two additionnal data disks were added - As I said, this is the only running VM stored as pre allocated. Regards, One suggestion : I see no obvious errors in the log files. Could this paused state happen due to a VM's kernel panic? is this still relevant? It is! Further investigations from my colleague shown the following facts : - This VM has 3 disks. Only one of those disks is responsible for the problem - In this disk, my coworker has found only 3 files (database files) that he can do nothing with without leading to the freeze. - He tried to cat them into /dev/null, and this is leading to the freeze - He tried to copy them into another disk - freeze! We see absolutely no evidence of a kernel panic. Rather, this seems to be related to a network bottleneck between the node and the iSCSI SAN, leading to oVirt unable to sustain a sufficent bandwidth and freezing the VM. Since then, we moved to another solution, but for the sake of opensource debugging, we did kept the faulty VM for your eyes only :) Hi, anyone has answer? I got same issue. Note that I've just called the systemd cavalry to our assistance. I thought I had a simple (if inconvenient) work around but it looks like something (either the deploy or syncing the management network) puts the HWADDR line back in ifcfg-em1_1. I'm going to do some more testing... Yep, it's the network sync that adds HWADDR back which then triggers udev to rename em1_1.538 to em1_1

Re: [Users] adding multiple interfaces with different networks
Hi Ovirt: 3.2 I agree, I removed it on a DC that has no host and the option on the network tree is removed. But when I add host to the DC again, and edit their network interface, the ovirtgmgt is seen with the vm icon. And the ovirtmgmt is configured has static, and I can't change that. Also the ovirtmgmt network is mark unsynchronized, I don't know what it mean and how to fix it http://www.ovirt.org/SetupNetworks_SyncNetworks#How_to_Sync_Network.3F Also I can't add a network to the host, I have no error message, but in events I can see Bridged network Internet is attached to multiple interfaces: UNKNOWN on Host node2. Host node1's following network(s) are not synchronized with their Logical Network configuration: ovirtmgmt. So I think that unsync network cause all my trouble. Kevin 2013/2/4 Mike Kolesnik mkole...@redhat.com -- Hi Hi Kevin, I've tested to uncheck the box vm network on ovirt 3.2 and there is an error message saying that the interface must be remove on all hosts (hypervisor) that are using it. The VM network is separate from the admin network, so I sound like a bug :( It isn't a bug, it is a check that is being made to make sure nothing will break if you change a network's property (VM or not, the VLAN ID, the MTU). If you have a host that already has this network set-up on it, then it will become unsynchronized with the logical definition of the network, meaning that it might fail to run your VMs. This is why it states that in order to change any of these properties, you need to remove the network from the host. If you want to change these properties on a management network, then the data center that has this network mustn't have any hosts when you change the properties. Regards, Mike Kevin 2013/1/23 Mike Kolesnik mkole...@redhat.com -- Hi I have exactly the same issue. This mean that a 1Gb (at least) interface must be dedicated to the ovirtmgmt interface, which is not a good idea. [Users] Storage FC on ovirt 3.2 : /dev/dm* bad chown
Hi My environnement is Fedora18 / Ovirt 3.2 and VDSM vdsm-4.10.3-6.fc18.x86_64. I use a storage on fiber channel. When creating a VM the disk is created by ovirt. When starting the VM the disk has not the permission to be accessed by vdsm. In fact the device for the disk has root:disks as owner/group. Changing that by 36.36 permit the VM to start and work fine. But snapshots do not work, and a reboot cause udev to remap the disk to another /dev/dm-* device. My fedora18 has selinux disabled. Re: [Users] BFA FC driver no stable on Fedora
Hi Mike thanks for your reply. I'm using oVirt Node Hypervisor release 2.5.5 (0.1.fc17). On the latest kernel on fedora17 the problem is still here. I've other issue on this node image, so I will test on fc18 and vdsm from repo. You can use the plugin tooling to install an updated kmod package as long as it's in rpm format. This will ensure that it gets into both the system and the initramfs. It's an offline process that will produce a new iso that you can install or upgrade to. The tool is called edit-node and is available in the ovirt-node-tools rpm (from the ovirt.org repos) 3. Do you know if it's fixed in a recent release of the kernel on Fedora? If it is, then we can spin an updated version of the image and pick up the fix directly from fedora. Hi My concern is about ovirt node oVirt Node Hypervisor release 2.5.5 (0.1.fc17), iso downloaded from ovirt. I also test the virsh command to have a better error message : virsh -c tls://172.16.6.3/system error: Unable to import client certificate /etc/pki/CA/cacert.pem I've checked the cert file on the ovirt node and found it was empty, and that on all nodes install from the Ovirt ISO it is empty I also checked /config/etc/pki/CA/cacert.pem, which is also empty. On a vdsm node install from package on fedora17, it works. ls -al /etc/pki/CA/cacert.pem lrwxrwxrwx. 1 root root 30 18 janv. 14:30 /etc/pki/CA/cacert.pem - /etc/pki/vdsm/certs/cacert.pem And the cert is good. [Users] FC on ovirt-node with brocade : port never up
Hi all I have a strange behaviour between my ovirt node and my FC switch. All material are brocade. Ovirt node release : oVirt Node Hypervisor release 2.5.5 (0.1.fc17) The thing is that the node doesn't detect the FC port, it detect the FC card only. On 10 clone hosts, 2 have detected the link, all others fails. And for these 2 hosts I've rebooted them many time before it works. Because there is only the BFA driver include, I can't debug anything, or update Does anyone have a feedback on that ? Thx, I will try to fix that. Kévin 2013/1/3 Dan Yasny dya...@redhat.com Ifconfig shows no FEX adapters, this is the reason the direct-pool network has no interfaces. You need to configure your UCS chassis to assign dynamic NICs to the hosts. An unassigned dynamic NIC can be easily detected as a device that has a mac that looks like 00:00:00:00:00:00 (which is what the vmfex hook looks for) - Original Message - From: Kevin Maziere Aubry kevin.mazi...@alterway.fr To: Dan Yasny dya...@redhat.com Cc: users@ovirt.org Sent: Thursday, 3 January, 2013 10:41:27 AM Subject: Re: [Users] vm-fex paramters Hi http://pastebin.fr/26180 contains all the result. Re: [Users] Change locale for VNC console
Hi Could you give the exact procedure to do that ? Thanks Kévin 2013/1/3 Alexandre Santos santosa...@gmail.com As Itamar once explained to me (I had the same problem): you can change the vnc keyboard layout via the config tool (VncKeyboardLayout option) globally. still missing as a per vm option (though you can easily do this via a hook if you need it per vm) Alex 2013/1/3 Frank Wall fw...@inotronic.de: Hi, when using oVirt 3.1 the locale for all VNC consoles defaults to en_US. This is OK if the user is using the same locale. But with any other locale on the client side (fr_FR, de_DE), the keyboard is really scrambled. As a result the VNC console is somewhat useless for an affected user. So my questions are... 1. How do I change the locale for VNC, either globally or for each VM? 2. Will there be an REST API call to configure the locale of the console? Re: [Users] tagged vs untagged and sharing the interface
Hi You can have as many vlan as you want on the same interface. Just create a new interface on the cluster with the required vlan set, and associate it on each node on the cluster. Ovirtmgmt is attached by default to an untagged interface, and you can add vlan and configure your switch port in dual mode (native vlan on cisco ).So your physical interface will handle ovirtmgmt on native vlan and others vlan on vlan interface on node. Don't Forget to update ovirtmgmt interface when adding an interface to the node, or ovirtmgmt will be in DHCP. Kevin Le 27 déc. 2012 21:01, Jonathan Horne jho...@skopos.us a écrit : if someone could help me confirm, but it appear that i cannot co-populate tagged vlan on the same interface as ovirtmgmt? for me it would really be better if i can share these 2 on same interface, but if i can't ill just have to live with it. can any one confirm this? thanks, jonathan -- This is a PRIVATE message. [Users] Network reconfiguration in ovirt 3.1
Hi all System : Fedora 17 On node : Libvirt 0.10 Kernel Linux node1 3.6.10-2.fc17.x86_64 Stable VDSM from repo On manager : Ovirt 3.1 stable Kernel Linux ovirt-manager 3.5.4-1.fc17.x86_64 By default the ovirtmgmt interface is created on node as a bridge with the same parameters than p1p1. That is good so that you keep network working on the node. I've setup a new tagged network on Ovirt, which I have to add to all the node of my cluster. So I plug this new network on p1p2, do not touch to ovirtmgmt network, and apply... and the server is lost. In fact when reconfiguring the network the ovirtmgmt card is set to DHCP, which is the problem. And the only solution to make vdsm back online, is to reset the complete node. [Users] Question about network card order
Hello My first email on the mailing, I hope the first one of a longue serie. The email concerns a Network Card order issue for which I like to report a have your advises. I've made a template which contains 2 network cards, Each one bridge on different vlan network. When I create a VM from this template, the network card mac address assignation is random... so that by default my fedora assign eth0 to the smallest mac address, and so on for eth1/eth2 ... But no way to define network card order in template, so that sometime the smallest mac address is on eth0, sometime on eth1 (and in fact more often on eth1), sometime my VM works, sometime I have to destroy and recreate network interfaces. Is there a workaround or anything else ? This is not related to order of NICs during VM start, because RHEV-M keep the MAC assignment and even PCI address assignment same over VM reboots.
