Hi Hetz,
you can use dnsmasq as your local DNS server. I myself use it on several
scenarios.

Hi. Have you tried solving the hostnames resolving issues that are
described on your email? Add the hosts to /etc/hosts

That seems a problem related with certificates that are already
installed for the same host on firefox.

Hi :-)
I've been migrating VMs using the web administration but I need Power
Management on each host so that the engine detects that a host is
down, right?

[Users] HA wirh oVirt

2013-02-13 Thread Alexandre Santos
Hi all,
I've been asked for a HA solution and I've been testing oVirt with a
NFS NAS and 2 hosts where I run 2 VMs that have a balancer at their
front, each on a different host. Now I'm thinking on the possibility
of a host malfunction and my question is: is there automatic migration
of the VMs that are running on this host to the other host?
Sorry if it is a silly question :-)

Hi again,
I simply looked on every VM listed on the UI for that MAC, not
directly on the database. That was how I discovered that the MAC was
changed when moving it to the export storage,

Hi,
I'm getting also this "error" about duplicate MAC. I quoted error
because I searched for this MAC on all my VMs and did not find another
MAC being the same. What I've seen is that if the original MAC ends
with :01, the new one (clone) has a MAC that ends with :02.
I then start this new cloned VM and it works fine - after changing the
MAC value on the network config files on the VM's SO.

I've seen it on bugzilla when trying to solve this issue but didn't write down.
Today I found this one:
https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=824617 - might be it and
there is a post with the solution.

2013-01-29 Thread Alexandre Santos
Hi,
You should alter your grub command line. This is a bug on Fedora.
Instead of /dev/mapper/live-rw, it should be /dev/sr0, for instance...

Hi Gianluca,
I once faced the same situation when I tried to boot a VM with an ISO
image that was corrupted. It hanged and I couldn't get to the SPICE
console. Only when I tried to install that same ISO but with VNC I
could see the error messages about the corrupted iso.

Sorry for this a bit "off topic" but I've been "resizing" my VM just
by adding new disks to the VM and then using the LVM tool or just
adding it to fstab.
I know that it's not a true resizing but it has been a good solution
for me. Once a Oracle DB (a XE used for tests:-)) went down because my
disk went full (it was 8GB) and I added a new disk, moved the dbf to
this new disk and restarted Oracle, without having to reboot the VM.

I only have locale problems when using VNC. Spice works well on any

Sorry for not asnwering to the list, here are my previous post:

"How much memory do you have? It seems that it's calculating how much
swap it will need and turns that needs at least 70 GB disk space."

There is a thread in this forum that has the calculations that ovirt
does for it. You can change this values on the boot options.

Re: [Users] Auto-start vms on boot?

2012-12-09 Thread Alexandre Santos
Hi,
I'm not involved on the ovirt development, but here are my thoughts:
1. oVirt makes sense on a datacenter scenario, where there is always a HA
management server that takes care of everything, including the management
of all VMs state.
2. If you want such a tight relation between the host and the VMs running
on it, you don't need oVirt, just "plain" host virtualization, like the one
that comes on every linux distro with virt-manager.There you can install
and manage the VMs on a single host, forcing them to stop or start on host
shutdown or boot.
3. This is what I've been doing myself. Virt-manager can manage all hosts
running kvm/qemu but don't have this datacenter approach, where you store
your VMs on a SAN/iSCSI and you run you VMs on diskless hosts and can
migrate them as you which, for instance.

If the oVirt developers think that i?m missing something or that I'm wrong,
please come and correct me :-)

Instead of /dev/mapper/live-rw, it should be /dev/sr0, for instance...

Hi all,
I've read on the wiki that there is an effort to build oVirt on Ubuntu but
my question is if is there an effort just for the agent. I would like to
have my ubuntu servers also running it :-)

Re: [Users] export VM

2012-11-19 Thread Alexandre Santos
Hi Cristian,
I don't know what ovirt is doing but if the final file is a raw image, you
can shrink it with qemu-img and transform it in a qcow2.
What I think was on the head of who implemented this is that you export a
VM to a NAS that has normally Teras of space, so it is more compatible to
save it in raw format. My 2 cents :-)

Re: [Users] create iso/nfs storage domain error

2012-11-09 Thread Alexandre Santos
Try to mount it on the host, if you're using a ovirt-node, it's on
/rhev/data-center/mnt. See if it is being mounted with user.group
nobody.nobody.

Remember that the NFS server must have user 36 (vdsm) and group 36 (kvm)
and they must own the directory you're exporting.

I've been trying to build the version available at the SPICE website. The
problem I'm facing now is that Ubuntu hasn't available anymore libxul-dev...

Hi,
the VMs are running and I can access them with VNC. The only problem is
when I try to use the SPICE console.

[Users] SPICE and CA Certificate

2012-10-29 Thread Alexandre Santos
Hi,
I installed a new node running oVirt Node 2.5.5 and I couldn't start a VM
using SPICE. The error was about the SPICE couldn't use the CA certificate.
I started looking on the /etc/pki directory on the node and found that the
/etc/pki/vdsm/libvirt-spice/ca-cert.pem was blank. I copied the
/etc/pki/vdsm/certs/cacert.pem to it and it worked. There is another post
about this issue: "[Users] Cannot connect to guest with spice console; SSL
validate error".
Is this an issue concerned to the activate command when the node is
registered on the manager?

Hi Mario,
you can add them by just copying to the 111..111 folder on the NFS exported
dir. I too have that error and I think is solved on the nighlty builds (I'm
not sure of that... but someone on this list will answer :-))

The solution was to change the kernel boot parameters when installing from
the CDROM.

Basically, root=live:/dev/sr0 did the trick. After rebooting, the USB had
all the links on dev, specially /dev/mapper/live-rw that was missing on the
prevous install.

[Users] Install on USB stick fails

2012-10-21 Thread Alexandre Santos
Hi,
I've been using a 8GB USB stick to boot the oVirt Node but with only 8 GB i
have no swap and less than 1 GB available for log. I bought a 16 GB but now
I can't boot with this one.
It gives 2 warnings:
dracut Warning: Unable to process initqueue
dracut Warning: /dev/mapper/live-rw does not exist

Dropping to debug shell.

dmesg gives the following info:

EXT4-fs (sda2): mounted filessystem without journal. Opts: (null)
then those warnings and the boot stops, going to a dracut shell.

Any ideas?

The owner 36:36 should be vdsm.kvm and not vdsm.vdsm
Do you have a group kvm with gid = 36?

443 by default then.

Sorry, post?

On the oVirt Node TUI I didn't change the port, it's 8443. I noticed now
that port 8443 isn't listed on the iptables list.

I attach the output.

Well, it was "brute force"... disabled iptables on the engine server :-)

[Users] Add a Host and iptables

2012-10-13 Thread Alexandre Santos
Hi,
I noticed that when I install a new Host using the oVirt Node ISO, when I
try to register my new host on the oVirt Engine, I can't download the
engine key. I must disable the iptables on the engine before.

Re: [Users] Can't start a VM - sanlock permission denied

2012-10-13 Thread Alexandre Santos
Hi,
after getting to the oVirt Node console (F2) I figured out that selinux
wasn't allowing the sanlock, so I entered the setsebool virt_use_sanlock 1
and the problem is fixed.

However, I started getting permission denied error when trying to start the
VM that was created on that NFS share. On the ovirt node console, I noticed
that the user.group of that share was nobody.nobody instead of vdsm.kvm. I
followed the instruction on the wiki about anonguid and anonuid but no luck
at all. This was an Ubuntu nfs server. I Installed a FC17 VM on this Ubuntu
and tried again and it worked at the first time :-)

Ubuntu has a KVM group with guid = 106.

I always choose the troubleshooting option and then do an install with
basic video. The only thing I changed from the default kernel boot line was
the quiet flag.

Yes, TUI.

Hardware: this is an old MSI P35Neo MB with 4 GB RAM and a Xeon 3040. The
SATA disk is connected to the onboard controller. The same problem occurred
with an IDE HDD.

What you're saying makes sense. The problem I had was that my node was
booting with DHCP and the IP changed. When I got to the engine / web
administrator, my Host was not detected and I couldn't change it's IP, only
the hostname... On the TUI I can't change the IP because I'm registered but
can't change it also on the engine. Is this correct?

Re: [Users] ovirt-node install hangs

2012-10-11 Thread Alexandre Santos
Hi,
yesterday I tried the new oVirt Node 2.5.3. I tried installing it without
the quiet flag but no luck. It hanged again and the kernel didn't show any
error on console (tty2).
Later will test without the rhgh flag.

Alex

BTW, now the hostname works on 2.5.3 :-) The network configuration is still
tricky... sometimes I have an "Apply" sometimes only a "Back" choice.

It's me again, now less sleepy :-)
What I would like to know is if this sanlock permission issue is within the
oVirt engine, a problem on the NFS Server or on the oVirt node (it's a
2.5.3 from nightly). On the later, I can't access the console to issue
those commands - I don't even know if it's running SELinux at all :-)

[Users] Can't start a VM - sanlock permission denied

2012-10-10 Thread Alexandre Santos
Him
I managed to install the new oVirt Node on a 8 GB USB Pen. I created the
NFS Share anf when I try to Run the VM I get the:
M ubuntu is down. Exit message: internal error Failed to open socket to
sanlock daemon: Permission denied.

I did the setsebool mentioned on the wiki on the engine but still get the
error. Is it necessary to configure anywhere else?

P.S. I haven't tried installing it on my SATA disk because I have there a

[Users] Run Once won't change boot sequence

2012-10-08 Thread Alexandre Santos
Hello again,
to install my VMs, I create them without CDROM and booting firstly from the
HD. Then I go and choose "Run Once" and choose the ISO I want to use and
boot from CDROM, on boot options. After installing the OS, I reboot and the
first boot is again the CDROM. I have to shutdown the VM so the
configuration chosen with HD being the first boot option is again the
default.

No, I think it's a kernel hang because the lights on the keyboard halt and
I can't change to tty2, etc.. I even changed to tty2 and waited to see if
there were some errors but nothing. I've read that "tty8" was the logging
console but no luck also.
BTW, I tried with an IDE disk and the result was the same.

I noticed that the USB Disk was named RootBackup instead of Root... I then
rebooted and chose uninstall and then installed oVirt Node from scratch and
now it worked.
I can't activate Networking because I have that "no hostname" error
mentioned in another post. I think it's related to that...

[Users] ovirt-node install hangs

2012-10-07 Thread Alexandre Santos
Hi,
I'm trying to install the ovirt-node iso image on a SATA disk and when it
gets to the screen where it shows 25% completed the kernel hangs. I can't
connect using a serial console to see what has happened. If I reboot using
a usb linux disk I see that the SATA disk has been formated and the
partitions that existed before disappeared, being there just one partition
of type "ee"
If I use a 8 GB usb pen-drive instead of the SATA disk, the installation
comes to an end and I reboot but then I get some error about not getting
/dev/mapper/by-name/Root and the boot fails to a dracut shell.
Any ideas?
BTW, this happens with both 2.5.1 and 2.5.2

[Users] Console and keyboard setup on VNC

2012-10-04 Thread Alexandre Santos
Hello all,
first post here :-)
When using VNC as the console to access the VM I can't use the portuguese
keyboard and see special characters. I tried it with VMs running Fedora,
CentOS and Debian.
If I ssh the VM, everything is correct on the terminal console.
Is this a issue from oVirt or from the VNC server running behind (I guess
it's the second).
Any help?
