[ovirt-users] ISO images permissions

2022-08-19 Thread Staniforth, Paul
Hello,
When putting ISOs on the standard data storage domain what
permissions can I give them so they are only available to selected groups or
users?

Thanks,

[ovirt-users] ISO Upload in in Paused by System Status

2021-08-04 Thread louisb
I'm attempting to upload an ISO that is approximately 9GB in size. I've
succssfullly started th upload process via the oVirt Management Console/Disk.
The upload started however, it now has a status of "Paused by System". My
storage type is set to NFS Data.

Is something happing the back ground that contributing to the "Paused by
System"? I have mor the 84TB of space available so I don't think it is a
space issue. Is there something that I need to do? At this time I'm going to
wait and see if it moves forward on its own.

Please provide me with any help or direction.

Thanks

[ovirt-users] ISO Repo

2020-09-23 Thread Jeremey Wise
I saw notes about oVirt 4.4 may no longer support ISO images... but there
are times like now I need to build based on specific ISO images.

I tried to do a cycle to create an image file 8GB then do dd if=blah.iso
of=/

Created a new vm with this as boot disk and it fails to boot... so.. back
to "create volume for iso images"

But when I do that I get error

New Domain -> "Domain function" =iso Storage type = glusterFs
Use Managed Gluster volume -> Select already working gluster file space
"thor.penguinpages.local:/iso
VFS Type: glusterfs
mount
options:
backup-volfile-servers=odin.penguinpages.local:medusa.penguinpages.local

Error:
Error while executing action: Cannot add Storage Connection. Performance
o_direct option is not enabled for storage domain.

Questions:
1) Why did the image and dd of iso to boot disk not work?
2) Any ideas about create of iso mount volume?

[ovirt-users] ISO and Export domains deprecated

2020-04-04 Thread Colin Coe
Hi all

I'm trying to understand how ISO and Export domains going away is going to
affect us.

We have four RHV instances:
- Prod DC1 (RHV4.1)
- Prod DC2 (RHV4.1)
- DEV (RHV4.3)
- TEST (RHV4.3)

Prod DC1, DEV and TEST all share export and ISO domains.

Prod DC2 is remote and currently has its own ISO and Export domains.

When ISO and Export domains go away, can I still share ISO domains between
the RHV instances?

Thanks

[ovirt-users] ISO Upload

2020-01-06 Thread Christian Reiss

Hey folks,

I have a cluster setup as follows (among others)

/vms for vm storage. Attached as data domain.
/isos for, well, isos. Attached as iso domain.

When I try to upload a(ny) iso via the ovirt engine, I can only select
the vms storage path, not the iso storage path. Both are green and
active across the board.

Is my understanding correct that I can only upload and ISO to a data
domain, then (once uploaded), move the iso file to the iso domain via
the web-ui?

-Chris.

[ovirt-users] ISO uploading from GUI/REST with user permissions

2018-04-03 Thread Lloyd Kamara
Dear Sir/Madam,

The ability to upload ISOs through the web interface and boot
VMs from them is a welcome addition in oVirt release 4.2.2.
I am grateful to the people behind the implementation of this.

Consider a scenario in which you wish to allow *end-users*
to upload ISOs to one or more Data Domains. The users can
then use the uploaded ISOs to boot their VMs.

Is it possible to grant a user permission to upload ISOs through
the web interface? I tried to to this under oVirt release 4.2.2
by doing the following:

- adding the 'SuperUser' role to a target user for a specific
Data Domain, which enables the user to log onto the Administration Portal.

- adding the 'DiskCreator' role to the same target user for the
same Data Domain, which, I would hope, would allow the user to
both create disks and upload ISOs within that Data Domain.

Disk creation in the Data Domain for the target user works as expected;
ISO upload does not. A dialog appears with the message: 'Operation
Canceled Error while executing action: User is not authorized to
perform this action.'

Here is the message that appears in /var/log/ovirt-engine/engine.log
when an attempt at uploading an ISO is made by the target user:

INFO
[org.ovirt.engine.core.bll.storage.disk.image.TransferImageStatusCommand]
(default task-40) [5b3fef06-49c8-4c34-81a3-a20fa691709a] No permission
found for user 'a9fde4c3-97a3-4494-84f8-08041a16710c' or one of the
groups he is member of, when running action 'TransferImageStatus',
Required permissions are: Action type: 'USER' Action group:
'CREATE_DISK' Object type: 'System' Object ID:
'aaa0----123456789aaa'.

If one assigns the DiskCreator role System permission for the target
user then that user can upload ISOs without problem. Unfortunately,
the user can upload ISOs - and create disks - in *all* data domains.

To re-iterate, is it possible to grant an end-user permission to
upload ISOs to specific data domains through the web interface without
granting an all-encompassing System permission?

Best wishes,
  Lloyd Kamara

You probably need to refresh the ISO list, assuming 4.2 go to Storage ->
Storage Domains -> , click on the name, and go to the images
detail tab. This should refresh the list of ISOs in the list and the ISO
should be listed, once that is done, it should show up in the drop down when
you change the CD.

[ovirt-users] Iso upload success, no GUI popup option

2018-03-19 Thread Jamie Lawrence
Hello,

I'm trying to iron out the last few oddities of this setup, and one of them is
the iso upload process. This worked in the last rebuild, but... well.

So, uploading from one of the hosts to an ISO domain claims success, and
manually checking shows the ISO uploaded just fine, perms set correctly to
36:36. But it doesn't appear in the GUI popup when creating a new VM.

Verified that the VDSM user can fully traverse the directory path - presumably
that was tested by uploading it in the first place, but I double-checked.
Looked in various logs, but didn't see any action in ovirt-imageio-daemon or
-proxy. Didn't see anything in engine.log that looked relevant.

What is the troubleshooting method for this? Googling, it seemed most folks'
problems were related to permissions. I scanned DB table names for something
that seemed like it might have ISO-related info in it, but couldn't find
anything, and am not sure what else to check.

Thanks,

We already have this, this is how glance images are copied into ovirt image.

However it works only for glance, and only if the host can access the server
holding the image.

This will work for server that is not accessible to the hosts, but
accessible to the
imageio proxy (usually on same network as engine).

Currently we plan http/https support, other protocols can be added
later if needed,

have the infra to support it, and it is just a matter of some work until

True, it would be nice to have a web-based "upload file". It was also
be nice to have a web-based "download from URI" feature, where I can
pass a URL to the web-ui and it would internally run 'curl' (or
whatever) to pull it down. Maybe an integrated bitorrent client? :)

Yesterday I just used scp to copy the ISO into the ISO domain storage
location, and the engine picked it up in its next hourly evaluation.
Granted, this is with 4.0.5.

Yes thanks, I know it.
In 4.1 (but it seems to me also in 4.x) it was a matter of seconds after
scp, but I hoped there would be something smarter and directly usable by

Dear All,

I thougt it was possible to upload an iso to ovirt 4 now. But for some
reason I didn't manage to do it. If I try to upload a iso in the disk
section ov the gui, I'm always getting the following message:
Make sure ovirt-imageio-proxy service is installed and configured, and
ovirt-engine's certificate is registred as a vailid ca in the browser.

ovirt-image-io-proxy is installed. Already rerun engine-setup... But still
the image get's paused when I try to upload it... Any ideas?

The version you are using is rather old, however, oVirt 4.0 supports RHEL
versions bigger than 7- which version of RHEL are you using?

If you choose to stay with 3.3.0, you must use the "engine-iso-uploader"
tool- it is a separate component from oVirt UI. Unfortunately in that
version you can't upload ISO from the UI.

Hi,

I'm currently on "oVirt Engine Version: 3.3.0-4.el6", will I be able to update
to the latest version without any issues?

I've tried to add a ISO as you told me but wasn't able to, will try again and
revert back.

Via (storage->new domain) and I have to add "use host" & "export path" - not
sure what that is?

Also, do I need to install the "engine-iso-uploader" on the server where oVirt

Hello,

I just start using Ovirt one week ago and I want to install Ovirt in my
company.

Currently all my VM are on VMware with two NFS storages. One for the iso and
the other for all the software.

I started the setup following the Ovirt quick Start and I setup the Ovirt
Engine on a Centos 6.7 and the Node on a Ovirt Node 3.6

I created and attached successfully a Data NFS Storage. I created a new ISO
NFS Storage because I don't want to use the IS0_DOMAIN created during the
setup.

When I running " # engine-iso-uploader list " I've got :

[root@localhost ~]# engine-iso-uploader list
Please provide the REST API password for the admin@internal oVirt Engine
user (CTRL+D to abort):
ISO Storage Domain Name | Datacenter| ISO Domain Status
ISO | Default | active

So I upload my images with " engine-iso-uploader upload -i ISO fedora.iso"

[root@localhost Bureau]# engine-iso-uploader upload -i ISO fedora.iso
Please provide the REST API password for the admin@internal oVirt Engine
user (CTRL+D to abort):
Uploading, please wait...

I can see the image on the file /ISO/.../--/ but impossible to

You are welcome. Not all users like the idea to do steps manually, so
it's good to have the tool.
If you are uploading the isos manually in the ISO export domain, don't

It's not secret, it's open source software.

You can remove the iso manually:

Just mount the NFS server which provide the export for ISOs. As soon you
mount it, look for the
dir images, under images you will see other dir
'----' that
holds the ISOs.

Example:
e3dfa5bf-a5fc-408e-8fa4-acafbaa92e3c/images/----/ovirt-node-iso-3.6-0.999.201512132115.el7.centos.iso

After removing, go to Admin portal -> Storage -> ISO -> Images and the
image should be gone.

Nothing is easy as it looks (Murphy's law) ;-)

There are cons and pros for moving the ISO (and the export domain) it to
become a regular data domain (vs. the complete opposite - just making it a
regular directory, not a domain or anything).
- It definitely will require (better) management tools (compared to the
basic ISO uploader and being able to easily rename & delete ISOs in the ISO
domain).
- It will provide better performance in some cases (does it matter for the
ISO domain? Not sure).
- It may relieve the need for NFS altogether (if you are using some other
storage technology)
- It will make sharing the domain more difficult across (put your favorite
item here - data centers, products, continents...)
- It will simplify the code in some areas.

Indeed, It is on the road map also for converting the Export domain to a

So would have to create a new SD (I'm using Gluster-based hyperconverged) and
then create the symlink in the new mount in the subdirectory you named? Maybe
I'll just rsync the ISO files into there...

Thanks anyhow... Seems like there should be an easier way to consume an
external existing repository.

[ovirt-users] ISO domain question

2016-01-08 Thread Will Dennis
I’d like to utilize a pre-existing NFS-available ISO repository we have,
instead of creating an oVirt-specific one. This repo is of course used for
other purposes, so it cannot be devoted to oVirt alone. We have successfully
used this NFS resource in VMware, but cannot see how to do the same in oVirt…
Is it possible? Or must oVirt maintain its own?

We'll need more info. It sounds like you were booting from the iso just
fine and still want to boot from it, but it won't? What are the symptoms,
e.g. vm starts but reports can't find a bootable disk?

You may want to check a couple things:
1. Are the permissions for the iso domain (user 36:36, perms 0755) and
image (36:36, 0640) correct?
2. Do errors show up any logs when starting/booting the VM? (Check engine
log, vdsm log, and /var/log/libvirt/qemu/.log on host.)

It's fully reproducible, I opened a bug against that:

Of course manually creating that symlink was wrong but probably we could
handle the failing image a bit better.

OK, so it's not a bug of the upgrade process.

The issue is that basically the symbolic link on NFS got resolved on the
NFS client and not on the NFS server where the file was.
So you have to manually position that iso file exactly in the same path on
each of your hosts or, much better, directly that file into your ISO
storage domain instead of creating a broken symlink.
Then probably VDSM could be a bit more robust here.

Hi!

The link was a my attempt to have ovirt-tools-setup.iso always updated
on oVirt CD list.
I made the link just before upgrading, so maybe that cause errors also
in 3.5

ISO storage domain was exposed via NFS. It was exported from engine host
(self hosted engine).

Maybe nice to have a more detailed error instead of "VDSM command
failed: Cannot get file stats: (u'837f-d2d4-4684-a389-ac1adb050fa8',)".

I think that engine stats all files. If one stat fail, for a link in
this case, all process fail and list remain empty.

[ovirt-users] ISO Domain empty after upgrade oVirt from 3.5 to 3.6

2015-11-09 Thread Stefano Danzi

Hello,
after upgrading oVirt my ISO domain is empty. If I upload an iso image (using
ovirt-iso-uploader) I can upload an image without errors.
The path /var/lib/exports/iso contains all old and new images. This path is
also correctly mounted on host machine.
...but ISO domain still empty.

I didn't find any error in logs.

[ovirt-users] ISO/NFS

2015-10-02 Thread gmail.com

Hello everyone.
I have ovirt with 2 datacenters. In first datacenter I've created
ISO/NFS domain on external to ovirt NFS server.
When i try to create ISO/NFS domain in second datacenter using the same
NFS server/export path - i get error like this:

"Failed to retrieve existing storage domain information."

In same time i can mount NFS volume by hands without any errors.
Can i use the same NFS server for ISO domain i different datacenter ?
Is my case bug or technical limit ?

Thanks for you answers.

I have never used freenas so I can't help you there, but I am assuming you can
add users to it using the UI, you just have to make sure the user/group id is
both 36 (kvm/vdsm) and that the user is able read/write to the appropriate
exported directories. On the other hand I am wondering how you managed to add
the data/iso domains if the HVs are unable to connect to it.

OK makes sense, I am using a freeness appliance…

So I somehow need to create those users? kvm (36)/group vdsm(36) and set that
permission to the iso directory?

I suspect I wold have to do the same for any other shared storage I plan to use
for virtual machines in the cluster?

Thanks

Do this on the nfs-server. Basically what happens in the background is your hv
is making a connection to the NFS server as user kvm (36)/group vdsm(36) in
order to obtain the iso information. If the NFS server doesn't have that user
or the permissions to read the directory it will fail.

Note that the engine itself doesn't need to be able to connect to the nfs-
server, its the HV (the vdsm process to be exact) that makes the connection.
The engine just tells the vdsm process what it wants done. This is also why
when the engine is down your VMs will be unaffected as its actually vdsm
controlling stuff.

Re: [ovirt-users] ISO not showing in UI

2015-09-08 Thread Kyle Bassett
Do I have to do this from the overt-engin or a hypervisor. (when I ssh to a hv
I get the guy menu - not command line).

I ran the iso upload from the engine - I am using a nfs iso repo - not local

[root@ovirt-engine-01 /]# engine-iso-uploader list
Please provide the REST API password for the admin@internal oVirt Engine user
(CTRL+D to abort):
ISO Storage Domain Name | Datacenter| ISO Domain Status
freenas-01-ISO| oVirt-DC-01 | active
[root@ovirt-engine-01 /]#

I am not sure how to check and set the proper permissions on the nfs/iso
location.

In that case I would check to make sure the owner of the file is correct in the
actual
directory, make sure the files are owned by vdsm/kvm (36/36).

Also make sure your export is correct, here is mine for my NFS iso domain:
/export/iso*(rw,sync,no_subtree_check,all_squash,anonuid=36,anongid=36)

Yes, I suspect it may be related to this

I followed all the instruction to a tee.

I will try these instructions but this could be a documentation issues in the

Storage->select ISO domain->go the images sub tab. That will re-read the
contents of the directory and should show your images.

Following the instructions here:

I managed to upload an ISO, but it won’t show in the UI - do I need to do
something to make it show up?
I hit refresh but nothing is showing under this ISO section of the UI

I tried it again, and it says it exists from the overt command line…

[root@ovirt-engine-01 fedora]# engine-iso-uploader upload -i freenas-01-ISO
ubuntu-14.04.3-desktop-amd64.iso
Please provide the REST API password for the admin@internal oVirt Engine user

Re: [ovirt-users] iso uploader times out

2015-01-26 Thread Mikola Rose
I am going to redeploy yet again...
Quick question though, when the hosted-engine deployment asks what interface
to use for management what network should this be since the host has 2 nics

192.168.0.0/32 is our general network
192.168.1.0/32 is for the NFS and inter vm traffic

I would assume it would be 192.168.1.0 ?

Subject: [ovirt-users] iso uploader times out

Hi list members,

Just finished deploying a self hosted engine. But i am having a problem
uploading an iso. It seems to be timing out..

engine-iso-uploader -i iso upload rhel-server-6.6-x86_64-dvd.iso
Please provide the REST API password for the admin@internal oVirt Engine user
(CTRL+D to abort):
Uploading, please wait...
ERROR: mount.nfs: Connection timed out

I am a little confused as the host machine has access to the NFS shares but
the engine vm does not yet I have created an iso storage item successfully
so the engine can see the nfs share?

Any idea on how I can trouble shoot this?

Can you please check the iso NFS export ACL as described here [1]?
If you created it via engine setup, now by default only engine host can access
it so if you want to access it from other hosts you have to extend that ACL.
If it not enough please check also the firewall rules.

Well, the iso has not been composed for being a full CentOS spin but as a POC
for ovirt-engine.

Using it for starting the OS already installed on your hard disk wasn't one of
its primary goal.
Maybe we should disable that entry in the live cd boot menu.

[ovirt-users] ISO

2014-06-11 Thread Moritz Mlynarek
Hello,

after installing ovirt 3.4 I tried to add an ISO File to my ovirt system.
But there was no local-iso-share.

The command "engine-iso-uploader list" told me "ERROR: There are no ISO
storage domains". I tried to create a new domain (ISO / Local on Host) but
I was not able to choose a HOST.

Sorry for my poor english. :(

Re: [ovirt-users] iso-uploader with hosted-engine

2014-05-03 Thread Andrew Lau
Hi Garry,

I hope I understand your case here, the terminology is a little "different".

Adding the hosted-engine to the gluster network is an interesting
approach I tried. It works to an extent but will have issues with
quorum (depending on your setup).

Anyway try this:

# Generate random UUID and MAC Address - or create your own by hand..
yum -y install python-virtinst
echo 'import virtinst.util ; print
virtinst.util.uuidToString(virtinst.util.randomUUID())' | python
echo  'import virtinst.util ; print virtinst.util.randomMAC()' | python

hosted-engine --set-maintenance --mode=global

# On all installed hosts
nano /etc/ovirt-hosted-engine/vm.conf
# insert under earlier nicModel
# replace macaddress and uuid from above
# increment slot
devices={nicModel:pv,macAddr:00:16:3e:j1:4b:22,linkActive:true,network:storage_network,filter:vdsm-no-mac-spoofing,specParams:{},deviceId:fds24208-a234-z123-6053-32c9c0361f96,address:{bus:0x00,slot:0x04,
domain:0x, type:pci,function:0x0},device:bridge,type:interface}

hosted-engine --vm-shutdown
hosted-engine --vm-start

hosted-engine --set-maintenance --mode=none

Now your hosted-engine VM should come up with another NIC, this'll
work for modifying your existing hosts. But I'm not sure how to apply
this to the answers file if you were to add a new host to the
configuration.

[ovirt-users] iso-uploader with hosted-engine

2014-04-29 Thread Garry Tiedemann

Hi guys,

I built my hosted-engine with three nodes (3.4, CentOS), and built a
Gluster ISO domain, connected it up, all good.

Until I come to engine-iso-uploader, it is present on the hosted-engine
but not on the VMs.
And my gluster subnet is not routed. So the VM can't see it to upload
ISOs into.

How are other people getting around this?

I can see:
1. Obvious - make the Gluster LAN routed. It wouldn't hurt, just for
transferring a few ISOs.
2. Add a second NIC to the hosted-engine VM, so that it can see the
gluster LAN

3. put engine-iso-uploader on one of the nodes, is that possible?

My preference is to connect hosted-engine to the Gluster LAN.

Is it possible to add another NIC to the VM, after it's built? (I don't
want to rebuild if avoidable; I've done that enough times).
I know that the ovirt GUI isn't aware of the first NIC on the VM, so I
haven't dared to try adding a NIC there. Is that safe?

Thanks in advance for your thoughts on this.

cheers,

*Garry
