Re: [xwiki-users] Authentification XWord/XOffice

2013-09-23 Thread Florin Ciubotaru
Hi,

Matthias' hunch was right. XWord's default authentication doesn't support
proxies.

I'm sorry but the guy who coded XWord has left the project and the current
committers don't know much about XWord. This is why we've retired it BTW
 (see the warning on
 http://extensions.xwiki.org/xwiki/bin/view/Extension/XWiki+Office).

XWord was intended as a power editor and as a transition tool for Office
users. Obviously, times have changed.
Inactivity and project retirement are a result of the declining relevance
of MS Office, but even more so, due to the fact that we believe you can now
get a much better experience using XWiki's default UI.

Regards,

Florin Ciubotaru

In addition without more details (stack trace needed for example) it's
hard to know what your problem is.

 Thanks

Re: [xwiki-users] XOffice not downloading pages, missing attachments

2011-10-24 Thread Florin Ciubotaru
Hi,

If you didn't start your documentation yet and you don't have any legacy
documents, I'd recommend using a pure web solution like XWiki. If you use MS
Office for advanced content, you will have issues pushing that content to
the wiki anyway.
I created XOffice a few years ago, when MS Office was a lot more dominant
and web editors were still weak(including the one used by XWiki), but the
situation is quite different now.

Indeed there was no development on it for the past year.
If you have critical issues with XOffice, it may be one of the following:
- you are using a localized version of Office or Windows (there are older
known issues with those)
- there is a conflict with newer XWiki versions.

The MS Office and Windows behavior and security settings are different for
versions released on other languages. It doesn't make a lot of sense, but
that's the way it is.
I've been receiving quite a few requests for a new release. However I could
only do some bug fixing only for the En/En environment, since it's a pain to
test and fix other versions.

Thanks,
Florin Ciubotau

The only alternative would be someone stepping up and willing to work on it
and ensure it works with latest XWiki Enterprise versions. See that we have
nobody active on it, we could throw a vote to grandfather that person as an
XOffice committer so that he/she can easily work on it.

Since you already fixed some bugs on it maybe you'd be interested to help

I notice that if I allow any logged on user to view the XWiki space,

they can look at this page:

  /xwiki/AllDocs?view=index

AllDocs page is in the Main space so its view access is not influenced
by the rights you set on the XWiki space (i.e. that target the XWiki
 space).

The XWiki space provides the access to the TableView and
 LiveTableViewResults

Which shows all the page titles in all of the spaces, even if the user
doesn't have access to those pages!

First of all, for me the first column called Page displays page names
not page titles. Then, for pages I don't have view right there is no
link and a star is displayed which is explained after the live-table:

(*) Some documents require special rights to be viewed.

I believe my point still stands... A user not authorised to see a page
should not be able to see the name of the page. A user not
authorised to see a space should not be able to see the contents of a
  space.

For example, if two independent school groups were using two xwiki
spaces to build some design documents for their project, then both
groups could gain information on the other group's design by checking
  out the page names.

Eg I bet the Microsoft group would've loved to see some pages from the
Apple group named iPod 4G specs or something like that !!

Not really... Apple really likes to play this game In this case it
would be done on purpose to simulate a leak and get the whole web excited!
 :)

indeed, although if they were using xwiki, it would not be possible to
 hide that information!

It is actually possible to hide the info, but it's not an easy process since
it requires code modifications in the results page.

I agree that document names might leak sensitive information. This extends
to internal groups of members, not just guests. Eg:
- Sales.HotLeadsNAregion
- HR.ResignationLetterOfEmployeeJohnSmith
- Tech.iPod4Gspecs
This is an important aspect, especially since XWiki targets the enterprise
environments.

There are several reasons why this limitation exists:
a. the vision: the default distribution should be an open environment, but
easily costumizable by devs and admins
b. technical: it's not possible to do a database query of documents
depending on user rights. All documents rights need to be checked
individually at runtime.

In the case of a livetable, XWiki only checks the rights for the current
result set(usually 10-20 documents) and specifies that some documents are
restricted. We have clients that requested this to be changed. We usually
change the results page to exclude the N restricted documents and to bring
the next N documents on which the user has the proper rights. With this
fix, the actual challange is that you cannot check the rights for all
documents without hurting performance, thus you cannot provide the correct
document count and pagination for the livetables.

Hope this helps,

Re: [xwiki-users] View source

2011-06-17 Thread Florin Ciubotaru
Hi Martin,

All menu entries can be customized by overriding the menuview.vm template.
The recommended way is to do this in the skin document(See Wiki
Administration - Presentation - Skin - Customize).
You will need to extent the XWiki.XWikiSkins class with a textarea property
names menuview.vm. After that you should edit the skin document and paste
and updated version of your template(in your case the template is
/xwiki/templates/menuview.vm).
For more details about skin customization see:
http://platform.xwiki.org/xwiki/bin/view/DevGuide/Skins#HD.OverridingtheSkincomponents

Hope this helps,

 XE
  2.5
image and link markers (the XHTML comments used by the rendering
  module)
use the same syntax. Let me know if you need any help.

Indeed, this could be the cause of the issue. I would have expected
  this
behavior to be backwords compatible or having the old one
 deprecated
  for
several XWiki versions as we receive this 'formated' XHTML trough
  public
APIs. At this point the conversion will simply crash when used by
 an

IMO we should check the version of XE when XWord connects to it and

   WDYT?

XOffice already checks the XE version for several reasons. For this

 saying
  it's

 least
   document this on the wiki.
The client relies on the XML-RPC and REST APIs which means that it
  should be
compatible with the server as long as nothing changes in the API
 specs.
I cannot confirm the exact cause of the issue yet. But based on the
  hint
from Marius I could say that the xhtml parser should have accepted
 the
  old
image marker for several versions. XML-RPC is a backwards compatible
  API,
once we introduced the conversion methods, it means we commit to
 having
  them
working properly across several XWiki versions.

On the server side, in the rendering module, we have *voluntarily*
 broken
several APIs. See the release notes for 2.5:

 http://www.xwiki.org/xwiki/bin/view/Main/ReleaseNotesXWikiEnterprise25#HAPIBreakages

I don't know how this can affect you (i.e how this can affect the
 XMLRPC

But if you produce XHTML on the XOffice side and if this XHTML contains
markers then the marker syntax has changed in 2.5.

it was that it allowed custom setup actions(extra screens, custom code like
registering log groups, etc). The issue is that is not well integrated with
VSTO and even with proper code/assembly signing the add-in will fail to
start on some custom Windows and Office distributions.

The current installer is ClickOnce based and is bundled in the XWord
project, unfortunately it's harder to customize it.

I guess the only quick healthy solution to this issue is to remove the
system logging.

Re: [xwiki-users] XWord - strange problem regarding pages and spaces

2010-12-02 Thread Florin Ciubotaru
Hi,

 Hello

I have installed XWord without any problem on my Windows XP Word 2007
system, however I'm encountering a strange problem. If I create a page in
 an
existing space in XWord, it gets the name as SpaceName.PageName as normal,
however the page seems to have no parent space, almost as if it is another
WebHome. The breadcrumbs for the page rather then being SpaceName
PageName, it just has the PageName (again much like a normal WebHome page).

XOffice does not set a parent for the page. This can is easy to implement.
Can you report an issue on http://jira.xwiki.org/jira/browse/XOFFICE?

It's kind of a problem because my menu system automatically lists the pages
within each space using a #foreach($item in $xwiki.searchDocuments($sql))
method, only the pages created in XWord don't appear at all.

Depends on what you search for. If you are searching for documents having a
certain value for its parent field then you won't find pages edited with
XOffice.

Also, if I edit a page originally created in XWiki it suffers the same
problem if I edit it and publish it in XWord. If I go to the Information
 tab
that lists all child pages, only pages created in XWiki appear, and any
 that
have been edited or created in XWord do not. The only way I can find them
 is
 to lucene search them.

The pages should appear when using document searches like those in
Main.AllDocs or Main.SpaceIndex.

Thanks,
Florin Ciubotaru

Is it supposed to function like this? Any help on this would be really
appreciated, I hope I can get this functioning correctly.

 Thanks

Re: [xwiki-users] Confusion over XWord versions

2010-11-11 Thread Florin Ciubotaru
Hi Paul,

 Hi all,

I've been looking for a wiki that simple MS Office users can use. XWord is
a brilliant idea and my friends jumped into it like ducks into a pond! The
familiarity of the MS Word really helped break down the barriers of
 learning
 wikis.

However, I am totally confused about what version of XWord should be
 installed.

On the one hand, there is this version that I assume is old:
 http://xoffice.xwiki.org/xwiki/bin/view/XWord/
the links point to IP addresses rather than a host name!!

That is a page for an alpha version. Thanks for pointing it out. The links
to the old address have been removed.

then there is two versions here:
 http://www.xwiki.org/xwiki/bin/view/Main/Download#HXWikiOffice

For XOffice 1.2 M1, the link points to XWord 1.0
For XOffice 1.1.1, the link points to XWord 1.1

so the Latest seems to give me an older version. I believe this is the
one that I installed, and we have found problems with uploading images from
 XWord.

We are going to try the other version, but now I'd like to know: where is
version 1.2M1 ? Which one should I be using?

The links on the download page are correct. The installer always downloads
the latest version of the stable and latest branches. Active instances
are also updated when a new version is released.
The XWord1.0 part of the url does not specify the version. The 1.2 M1
binaries are actually downloaded from
.../XWord1.0.zip/Application%20Files/XWord_1_2_0_131/. From this point of
view v1.2 is seen as an update to previous versions.

I checked the RoadMap, it looks a bit out of date. Is there anyone working
on XWord? This is a killer feature! I don't see any other wikis with this
 sort of feature.

I am the main developer of XOffice, but its development hasn't seem much
activity in the past months.
There seem to be some issues when using XOffice with newer XWiki versions.
These will be fixed in the future but I cannot give a clear date of the next
release at this point as I am focusing on other XWiki SAS responsibilities.

Thanks,

IMO we should check the version of XE when XWord connects to it and if it's
 not compatible mention it.

 WDYT?

XOffice already checks the XE version for several reasons. For this
particular issue, I'd prefer to implement the fix it rather then saying it's
incompatible. First thing to do until a release is done, is to at least
document this on the wiki.
The client relies on the XML-RPC and REST APIs which means that it should be
compatible with the server as long as nothing changes in the API specs.
I cannot confirm the exact cause of the issue yet. But based on the hint
from Marius I could say that the xhtml parser should have accepted the old
image marker for several versions. XML-RPC is a backwards compatible API,
once we introduced the conversion methods, it means we commit to having them
working properly across several XWiki versions.

Hi Susan,

Your server window is probably closing because the application cannot write
files to disk(Eg: using Program Files folser).

You either need to install xwiki into another folder or run the server as
Administrator.
After that you should be able to use the wiki by typing
http://localhost:8080 into the browser.

 Hello,

I'm trying to edit pages with the help of xoffice. Recently we noticed
that
when adding images to pages via XWord the database contains an entry in
the table xwikiattachment for the attachment but the data is not beeing
inserted into the xwikiattachment_content table. This obviously leads to
the
image link beeing broken, shown as having 0b of size.
I tried this with v1.1.1 as well als v1.2M1 against XWiki2.4. Since I read
the
whitespace issue I tried this in the Sandbox-Space, Pagename 'Test'. The
 issue could still be recreated.
I did not find any error in the tomcat logs. Is there any log that I'm
missing or
 is this a known bug?

 Hi Florin,
here are some details about my environment:
 -Server2008 R2 Enterprise (64bit)
 -JRE 1.6 (32 and 64bit - 32 because of openoffice server) -OpenOffice
running
headless per batch -Tomcat Server 6.0.29 running port 80 -XWiki 2.4 war
and
xar setup -DB backend is MSSQL 2008 R1 SE -Authentication per ldap -XWord
(1.1.1 and 1.2M1 doesn't make a difference for this issue) -Client running
 Win7 64bit (32bit was tested as well) + Office2007 If I've missed anything
 please let me know.
I've already tried this using a normal user (view, edit, comment rights) as
well
as the admin user (all rights) but it didn't make any difference.

Thanks for all the details.
Can you share a dummy url coresponding to the one you are using to login in
XWord?

Additionally, I would appeciate if you could test the following scenario:
- Create a wiki page using Word
- Insert some images then publish the page
- View the page in the browser and click on one of the image attachements.
- The attachment should be corrupt
- Back in Word, re-publish the page
- Refresh the browser tab containing the attachment url - The image appears
- Referesh the entire wiki page in the brower - The image is currupt again

This should confirm that the attachment is only cached and not stored on the
server and will allow me to focus on the serverside api implementation.

Other topics of XWord I'd like to mention:
-install into Office2007 without admin rights not possible because of
security
issues (fails to write some settings to security protocol)
Yes. This is imposed by Microsoft for this types of add-ins. The installer
should prompt for admin rights.
 -xwiki browser of the
plugin shows all spaces with view rights regardless of ignore or edit
rights.
Wouldn't it be nicer to show only spaces/pages with edit right? Rights
managment cannot be cutback as much as to enforce the plugin browser and
at the same time grant the user a passive view right on all spaces while
 logged in at the wiki.
This is a limitation of the server. We should either improve the xml-rpc
api, or switch use REST for the wiki explorer. We currently have low
resources on XOffice but this should also go in the next releases.

Thanks,
Florin Ciubotaru

Hopefully the data I supplied helps resolving the issue. If not please
don't
hesitate to ask for more ;)

Re: [xwiki-users] [BUG] XWord installer for MS Office 2007 does not automatically install PIA dependency

2010-05-19 Thread Florin Ciubotaru
Hi Roman,

Thanks for this detailed install report.
The assemblies that are a part of the PIAs have the same name regardless of
the office version. You may have had the 2003 versions installed thus
preventing the XOffice bootstrapper from installing the PIA. When installed
by a bootstrapper inside an installer and not stand alone, PIA won't be
listed as an separate application in Control Panel.
Also, there seems to be an issue with the PIAs which are currently listed as
unavailable for bootsrapping. This is the more probable cause of the issue.
If this persists I will change the dependency download location from
Microsoft sites to xwiki.org.

Thanks,
Florin Ciubotaru

runtime error occurred during the loading of the COM Add-in.

I have found similar issue for XWord 2003 in XWiki Jira:
 http://jira.xwiki.org/jira/browse/XOFFICE-160 it looks still unresolved.

List of currently installed software on my PC is attached (
 http://n2.nabble.com/file/n5068886/InstalledSoftware.txt
InstalledSoftware.txt ). One additional note is that I had MS Office 2003
Web Components installed on my first attempt. But then I've removed it and
re-installed XWord once again with the same result.

Having looked carefully once again on the installation procedure I've
noticed a list of dependencies with PIA (Microsoft Office Primary
Interoperability Assemblies) which was not in the list of installed
software. So I have installed it manually, re-enabled XWord plug-in and the
 XWord tab has finally appeared.

I believe this error might be due to PIA install pack structure specifics.
It does not actually install the app - it only extracts another installer
 which should be run separately.

Hope this info will help someone someday.

 Roman

 Asiri Rathnayake wrote:

 Hi Ben,

For the following code, I didn't understand where I can test it... I would

like to solve this problem with IE...

Since you did not respond to my last email, I'll blindly propose a
 solution
that might fix the problem you are experiencing on IE.

 1. Open up XWiki/OfficeImporterResults wiki page and go to wiki editing
mode, you should see the following code snippet at the top of the page:

 code
   #set($fileUpload=$xwiki.fileupload)
#set($fileName=$fileUpload.getFileName(filePath))
 #if(! $fileName)
   {{error}}$msg.get(xe.officeimporter.results.missingfile,
 [$goBack]){{/error}}
 #else
  #set($void=$fileUpload.loadFileList())
   #set($officeFileStream=$fileUpload.fileItems.get(0).inputStream)
#end
 /code

Now you need add two code lines (wait for it) just under the line:

 #set($fileName=$fileUpload.getFileName(filePath))

New code lines to be added are:

 #set($tempIndex = $fileName.lastIndexOf('/') + 1)
 #set($fileName=$fileName.substring($tempIndex))

So, at the end your code snippet should look like:

 #set($fileUpload=$xwiki.fileupload)
#set($fileName=$fileUpload.getFileName(filePath))
#set($tempIndex = $fileName.lastIndexOf('/') + 1)
#set($fileName=$fileName.substring($tempIndex))
 #if(! $fileName)
   {{error}}$msg.get(xe.officeimporter.results.missingfile,
 [$goBack]){{/error}}
 #else
  #set($void=$fileUpload.loadFileList())
   #set($officeFileStream=$fileUpload.fileItems.get(0).inputStream)
#end

I'm not 100% sure if this will solve the problem (since I did not get a
response for my last email). If above code fixes your problem, please let
 us
 know.

 Thanks.

Ok, I have added however the PR for the target user, but it does'nt change
 anything.

Programming rights are actually checked for the current page. Basically
a page has programming rights when when it was last saved by a user
having PR, certifying the page to run its scripts. This is a bit
confusing for the users.
In the case of office importer you will need to re-save the script pages
and probably the admin page too, but it is know to be inconsistent and
you will need to redo the operation if you have the Inadequate rights
message again. PR are causing some inconveniences which is why we are
going to reduce the number of pages that require them.
 thanks anyway

You need to resave XWiki.OfficeImporterAdmin with a account having
programming rights.
This is a known issue, the programming rights requirement will be
replaced with admin rights in the future. Setting the open office server
to auto-start could also avoid this.
I just killed the open office Processus and I tried to start again the
server and it's don't work anymore, I have Inadequate privileges..

 I really don't understand what's the matter..

When you get the second error message, please check your log
files(xwiki.log, stdout) and search for a file is used by another
process message. If you have this error message thrown by office
importer then you need to kill the open office process and delete the
parent folder of the file specified in the logs. You should be able to
connect and successfully import documents after that.

Would also like to try out the OpenOffice integration - but can't seem
 to find it.

I have been trying to add images from Xword, but this has never worked,
 assume these issues are related,

 any help greatly appreciated,

 cheers,

It depends on the language you write the content too.
Looks like switching languages inside the content generates some special
 markup that causes the exception.

The markup is generated when a word is not found in the assigned

 Hello Florin,

I want to develop the hypertext stand alone, to load it next in a xWiki

don't want to depend on inet connections to a server to develop the
hypertext. I have all the docs already there, and it is the fastest way to
 proceed I thought about.

If you travel a lot it is probably best to continue to edit the Word
documents instead of wiki syntax content. You can push the documents to
the wiki when a connection is available. For that you can use XOffice or
the Office Importer:
- http://xoffice.xwiki.org/xwiki/bin/view/Main/WebHome (Requires
Microsoft Office)
http://code.xwiki.org/xwiki/bin/view/Applications/OfficeImporterApplication-
http://code.xwiki.org/xwiki/bin/view/Applications/OfficeImporterApplication
(Requires Open Office attached to your XWiki server)

Hope this helps,
Florin Ciubotaru
This given, and given the development stage of Xoo, how would you suggest me
to proceed with xEclipse? Consider that I downloaded the tool just a couple
 of days ago.

 Tanks,
 Omar.-

Re: [xwiki-users] Export xwiki page to be seen on word

2010-03-17 Thread Florin Ciubotaru
Hi,

It would be great if you could log the XOffice issue to our issue tracker.
Then I will fix this in the following release.

On Wed, Mar 17, 2010 at 7:18 PM, Abel Solórzano Astorga
abelsolorz...@gmail.com wrote:

 Thank you for your response.

 This is what I do:

 1. I am connecting to the server as the Admin user.
 2. On the Wiki Explorer I select the page I want to edit, right click on it
and then click on Edit this page.

The page that is shown on word doesn't have images. Instead there is a box
with the following message: The linked image cannot be displayed. The file
may have been moved, renamed or deleted. Verify that the link points to the
 correct file and location.

I never saw this message before. Are your images attached files on your wiki
and does it happen on every page?
Also, please check if your document repository folder has edit rights. To do
that go to XWord Options - Repository settings tab and select a folder
where you have write permissions.

Thanks,
Florin Ciubotaru

The type of file on the word document is html.

By the way I am going to be waiting the new word / pdf exporter.

 Thanks,

Add attachment doesn't have the optional check version as storePage has.
I think the only way to do that right now is to get the list of
attachments of a page before you start the upload.
For that you can use the Attachment[] getAttachments(..) method. The
Attachment map contains an 'url' key.

You can check the xml-rpc api model at:

Re: [xwiki-users] How to create a skin/ theme in xwiki through xml rpc?

2010-03-12 Thread Florin Ciubotaru
Hi,

IMHO, creating skins through xmlrpc doesn't really make sense.
If you need to create or modify a skin you can push the skin objects and
attachments. The skin uses XWikiSkins objects and you can add
XWikiStyleSheetExtension and XWikiJavaScriptExtension objects to extend it.

IMO, this has a lot of downsides and it's not a very reliable solution.
Can you can you give some details about your use case?
AFAIK the login is not shared between the subsystems, so you will not be
able to use the rest or xmlrpc features by logging in with http.
Anyway, to do the login for the standard distribution you need to post
to: /xwiki/bin/loginsubmit/XWiki/XWikiLogin.
The parameters are: j_username, j_password, j_rememberme, and you will
probably want to add xpage=plain and stop the redirects.

From my experince this kind of approach ends up being quite costly.

No there's no jira issue for now. If you need this, please create it and

We got the same problem and in the documentation theres a description how to
get short URLs which includes that you change the 'xwiki' directory to
 'ROOT'

 http://platform.xwiki.org/xwiki/bin/view/Main/ShortURLs

So i think that you should be able to have that setting. Mayby a advanced
settings option would prevent the normal user to see 'strange settings'.

Re: [xwiki-users] XOffice : login problem

2010-02-25 Thread Florin Ciubotaru
Hi Simon,

Looks like your wiki is redirecting to the login page. This happens
because XOffice only uses xwiki as an application context, and
detects the xmlrpc servlet mapping in a wrong manner.
I now remember thinking at this potential issue since I developed the
connectivity module. I've been hesitating to allow more flexibility on
this because nobody requested it until now and because this will force
every user to fill in more strange settings in XOffice. I tend to think
it's more efficient having an admin configuring some settings then all
users doing the same thing ;)

There are two quick fixes for this:
1) Redeploy XWiki using an xwiki directory instead of
xwiki-enterprise-web-2.2
2) Reconfigure the xmlrpc servler mapping to fit the XOffice request. In
order to do this, go to /WEB-INF/web.xml and look for:

servlet-mapping
servlet-namexmlrpc/servlet-name
url-pattern/xmlrpc/*/url-pattern
/servlet-mapping

Then change /xmlrpc/* with *xmlrpc/.

I think going for option 1) is best.
If you feel more flexibility is still needed then please create a jira
issue and I'll try to implement in one of the following releases.

Re: [xwiki-users] XOffice connection question

2010-02-25 Thread Florin Ciubotaru

Hi Courtney,

XOffice is only compatible with XWiki 2.0.4 or newer. The recommended XWiki
version for XOffice 1.1 M2/107 is XWiki 2.2.
This versioning information is available on the download page, but we should
probably improve the documentation.

The wait cursor error on the login dialog is a known issue. This will be
fixed on the next release.

Re: [xwiki-users] XOffice : Which (how) .Net version ?

2010-02-23 Thread Florin Ciubotaru
Hi Simon,

XOffice runs on .net 3.5.
If .net 3.5 is not found on your computer then it is automatically
downloaded and installed by the XOffice installer. There's definitely
something wrong there, since you should never get that message.
I never had this problem but I think this is probably an wrong error
message of the installer. From what I understand you already had XOffice
on the machine, so in this case there shouldn't be anything wrong with
your .net install.
First thing to do is to make sure you uninstalled XOffice 1.0 before
installing 1.1 M2 and that your firewall doesn't stop the installer from
accessing xwiki.org and the Microsoft sites.
I'm not sure how the installer and XOffice itself handle the proxy,
there could be issues with it. This can be easily implemented but I
didn't get the time to do it yet.

Just found that msdn page too after seeing Sergiu's tip. Looks that the

I'll republish them tomorrow morning from another machine.

In order to avoid this, the publishing should be done by hudson. This is

Well, you can try un-installing openoffice and reinstalling. But I doubt
 this will help.

Next thing you can try is use jodconverter directly and try to convert your
 document from odt to html.

 Here is the link:

 How to use it:

If the command-line conversion fails for your document, then the error

Can anyone confirm whether they can import documents with images with:

   - linux 2.6(.18)
   - openoffice.org 3.1.1
   - xwiki (standalone) 2.0.3

 Here is my configuration:

 - XE 2.0.3

 - OpenOffice.org 3.1.1 (Build 9420)

Importing documents with images works fine.

 Few questions for you:

 1. Is openoffice server listening on port 8100? Can XE connect to that port?

The port should be fine since importing simple documents works.
 2. What does the XE log tell you when this problem occurs.

I also have a import issue on the 2.0.3 XE tag. It seems that the issue
was reported by another user here:

Importing works fine for me on the current 2.0.x snapshot.
Another possibility is that there might be a problem with your openoffice
profile. Usually this should not happen because jodconverter automatically
 creates a profile.
No, the profile is not created automatically, at least not every time. I
had this issue on both Windows and Linux. You need to start use Open
Office so that it creates the folder, otherwise you need to create it
yourself or change the office importer settings.

With jodconverter 3.0-beta-2 you don't need a profile directory if you are
starting OpenOffice server internal to XE:

 Refer:
 http://groups.google.com/group/jodconverter/browse_thread/thread/8b73b26b701c3249?pli=1for
 details.

I fell we're hijacking the thread with this. Even if jodconverter will
create your profile directory you still need to update the office
importer management app which requires an directory path to connect.
You only get to call jodconverter while importing, and obviously after
the connection is made. But you can't connect to the server without the
folder in the first place.

Thanks,
Florin Ciubotaru
Note that we've mentioned this on the documentation at
 http://code.xwiki.org/xwiki/bin/view/Applications/OfficeImporterApplication

For the *profilePath* configuration option, you need to have an OpenOffice
profile directory created somewhere on the system. This can be a problem in
server environments where launching OpenOffice is not an option. In such
situations you can create an OpenOffice profile on a local computer and
upload it to the server running XE.

Although it is under the wrong topic (internally managed..) it should be
under Externally managed... section (fixing that now).

Also jodconverter 3.0-beta-3 has been out for a while:

 http://groups.google.com/group/jodconverter/browse_thread/thread/6e4eeb3d7e9e63ca/fd3da52e33043f68?lnk=gstq=beta#fd3da52e33043f68

I did not have time to upgrade office importer. And I think they have few
API changes as well, will need some testing.

 Thanks.

Yes, but even when it figures out the open office installation dir, it
doesn't create the profile folder if it doesn't exist. This will cause
the connection to fail. I think you have different behavior depending on
the system. I tested on Windows Xp, 7 and Fedora. It never created the
profile dir. Anyway, I don't think this is the cause of the current issue.
Default values for *homePath* and *profilePath* configuration options will
be calculated based on your operating environment. Even though this is the
case, this calculation might not yield accurate results for some systems. So
it's a good idea to configure these values manually by editing the
 xwiki.properties file.

Hi,

Sorry for the previous empty mail.
All this quoting is not necessary, I never asked how jodconverter
behaves nor do I trust the doc without testing it ;) My point is that
just relying on that upgrade or specification didn't do the trick and we
still have the issue. Please test the use case. :)

The server fails to start when you call the start() method in
DefaultOpenOffice manager if you don't provide an valid folder.
Note that there is a difference between profileDir and
templateProfileDir which you set in the configuration. Maybe you could
investigate this.
Since this is not related to the current thread, i propose to move the
discussion on jira. This is a low priority issue as it only happens on a
fresh machine.

As I said before, with jodconverter 3.0-beta-2 version, you don't need a
profile dir (if you are internally starting the OOo server).

 Refer:
 http://groups.google.com/group/jodconverter/browse_thread/thread/8b73b26b701c3249?pli=1for

OOo is now started with -nofirststartwizard by default. This avoids the
frequent problem of OOo refusing to work on a new machine because it's
expecting somebody to accept its license dialogue even in -headless
 mode.

It is after accepting the license agreement the profile dir gets created.
With the -nofirststartwizard flag you don't need a profile dir.

Re: [xwiki-users] XWord issue

2009-11-26 Thread Florin Ciubotaru
Hi Fabian,

This is known issue, you need to set the page syntax to xwiki/1.0 to fix
the display issue. XWiki 2.0 syntax is not supported on your build.
Note that XWord 1.0 final is not released yet. You are probably using
XWord 1.0 RC1 which is out of sync with the platform for the past few
months.
We implemented the fix for the issue this week and we have compatibility
with the current snapshot of the platform. I will publish a new XWord
snapshot tomorrow on xoffice.xwiki.org.
We will also have a new release next week that will be compatible with
XE 2.0.4 and XE 2.1 RC1.

Thanks,
Florin Ciubotaru

 a code such as:

  div class=Section1
h1
  Test!!
/h1
p
  TESTTT blabla/p
  /div

The .xar import was successful and as I'm the admin every page has
 programming rights as well.

I haven't found any stated bug related to this issue!

So can anyone help me since using word for editing is crucial!

We'll provide a solution in one week.
The installer will be fixed as soon as we sign all assemblies with a
strong name. It may take a few days to get approval to sign some of the
third party dependencies ourselves or to replace them with already
existing ones. This is something we managed to skip for the 2007
version, but it's a requirement for Office 2003.

If you're interested in the roadmap: XWord-2003 is in its' alpha stage.
The first official release (milestone 1) will be in the first half of
October.

Re: [xwiki-users] Why I chose Xwiki instead of other wikis

2009-03-20 Thread Florin Ciubotaru
Ari Oinas wrote:
Thanks for your feedback. I would be glad to know a bit more about what you
were looking for, which wikis you tried and what made you choose XWiki
rather than another system. This would help us understand better what makes
XWiki stand out and what it lacks compared with other platforms.
If you've got a little time, do you think you could tell us a bit about
 that?
 Many thanks in advance,
 Guillaume

Ok, here's a small list of reasons why I chose Xwiki and not some other
 wiki.
Before I begun searching for suitable wiki, I gathered a list of
requirements that a wiki must have.
Wikis that I tested or studied were: MediaWiki, TikiWiki, Xwiki and
Confluence. Maybe some others too, but I don't remember ;)

Here is that list and how different wikis fulfill those requirements:

Requirement 1: Ability to transclude pages and sections of pages in other
 pages
MediaWiki: Yes, support page transcluding natively and section transcluding
 can be added with plugin
Xwiki: Supports page transcluding. Section macro was easy to do, and I got
to do it just the way I like it :)
Confluence: I think it supports transcluding. Not tested it though.

 Requirement 2: Support for hierarchical information ( tree-like )
MediaWiki: Very bad. Can be achieved using categories, but because Category
is a namespace, category names must be unique which was unacceptable in
 mycase.
Xwiki: Very flexible. Namespaces ( Spaces in Xwiki ) are easy to create and
pages can be ordered hierarchically using page's parent -field.

Requirement 3: Support for content localization/translation
Mediawiki: None. AFAIK every language needs it's own Wiki.
Xwiki: Built-in. Creating translated content is easy. Functions to retrieve
translations still needs work, but are good enough to get the job done.

Requirement 4: Flexible, easy to maintain user rights
Mediawiki: User right management very restricted. Better with plugins but
 still poor.
Xwiki: Superb! Very easy, yet powerful way to handle user rights. I really
liked that user right has 3 options: allow, deny, neutral. This combined
with user groups and spaces makes user rights management very enjoyable.
TikiWiki: Frustratingly detailed. Has some very powerful features, but list
of about 100 different user right parameters is very frustrating. (This
opinion is based on very quick tests)

Requirement 5: Ability make offline HTML dumps of wiki content
 MediaWiki: Possible (maybe with a plug-in, I don't remember)
Xwiki: Supported natively. Yet, I decided to make my own XML Dump program
which fetches content through XML/RPC interface.

And now a list of pros and cons for every wiki I tested:

 Mediawiki:
+ Widely used, lots of help available
 + lots of plugins
 - hierarchical information support very bad
 - user right management limited and hard to comprehend

 TikiWiki:
 + Lots of features
 - User interface looks clumsy and is difficult to use ( maybe because I
tested Xwiki just before this ;)
 - User rights management is overwhelming

Confluence: ( not tested, opinions based on what I read about it)
 + seems finalized
+ used widely in enterprises and universities
 + XML/RPC interface
 - PRICE

 Xwiki:
 + Very slick UI
 + Macros / Programming capabilities
 + XML/RPC interface
 + User rights management
 + customer support
 - Seems in many ways incomplete/work in progress
 - Documention is scattered across the internets / help is very hard to find
using Google. Most searches end up in Xwiki JIRA-pages.
 - Xwiki documentation pages seem disorientating. Even if I know theres some
useful info there, it takes me 15mins to find it. (DevGuide, dev.xwiki.org,
 xwiki.org/Features)
   - Example:
 http://xoffice.xwiki.org/xwiki/bin/view/CodeBase/XmlRpcProxy and
 http://platform.xwiki.org/xwiki/bin/view/Features/XMLRPC, so similar, yet in
 totally different places

The XmpRpcProxy page was created after you sent your first mail. I
published that page, as a result of your mail, so that it potentially
helps you. As you can see the notes in the page, it is only a draft.
When completed(fully maps the xml-rpc modelapi) it will be linked/added
to the platform page.
 - Scandinavian characters in pageIds don't seem to work

I hope these lists are helpful to you. Despite some criticism I presented
here, you have developed an amazing wiki. I think you should focus a little
more on making documentation easy to find and read even for someone who is
just starting to code or otherwise noob (such as me ;). Now it gives an
impression that you have to be Linux-expert/super-coder/uber-nerd to be able
to set up wiki and program it (which you don't need to be, it's actually
 quite simple).

 Best regards,

 Ari

Re: [xwiki-users] Translations cannot be fetched using XML/RPC interface

2009-03-18 Thread Florin Ciubotaru
Hi,

I recreated your scenario an published a basic XmlRpc proxy on this page:

Getting the wiki content of a translated page seems to work fine. Here's
how it can be used:

Page pageInfo = proxy.GetPage(token, Main.WebHome?language=fr);
String frenchContent = pageInfo.content;

The language parameter value must be a value present in the translations
array.

Notes:
- The translations array contains all available translations for that
page, except the default language of the page.
- The default language of the page is the default language of the wiki
at the moment when the page is created. If ,in time, you change the
wiki's default language, the page default language for the page will not
change.
- If you need the rendered content you will need to make another call to
this API method:

public String renderContent(String token, String space, String pageId, String
content) throws Exception;

Please let me know of your progress

Thanks,
Florin Ciubotaru

 Im using CookComputing.XmlRpc -library.

So far I've managed to do the following:
 - Connect and login successfully to Xwiki
 - Fetch pagesummaries, pages and attachments from Xwiki and displayed them
 in Windows.Forms.WebBrowser component.

I have created a space in Xwiki which holds the pages I want to show in my
application. (Space name contains spaces, is this a problem?)

I have created a page inside this space and also translated it to another
language. This page is displayed properly in Xwiki web-client. Page is
 created using Xwiki 1.0 syntax.

If I debug my program and inspect PageSummary -properties, I can see that
there is a translation called en in translations array.

I have tried it like this:

 xwikiInterface.getPage(iToken, Space.Page + ?language=en);

but it returns the default page.

 Hi,

could you tell me your exact setup?

I tried with a multilanguage wiki and a Main.WebHome translated in fr
 and it.

 rpc.getPage(Main.WebHome?language=en).getContent() - English
 rpc.getPage(Main.WebHome?language=it).getContent() - Italiano
 rpc.getPage(Main.WebHome?language=fr).getContent() - Français

The available translations are accessible using the
 Page.getTranslations()

In the previous example, this call returns [it, fr] (Maybe here we
should explicitly add also the default translation)

 Let me know.

Re: [xwiki-users] [ANN] XWiki Office 1.0 Milestone 1 Released!

There are no current plans of implementing XOffice for another version
of Microsoft Office. Yet, we can adapt the solution relatively easy only
to Office 2003, if this is going to be asked by the XWiki.org community.

Unfortunately Microsoft discontinued most extensibility technologies for
versions of office prior to 2003, because those were created in early
'90s and didn't fit the current market any more. The old technologies
that are still supported just aren't powerful enough and the support for
them will stop in the near future.
We choose VSTO as the technology to develop XOffice on top of, at the
cost of losing users that have older versions of Office, because it is
the only technology that is guaranteed to be in the next versions of
Office. Our tech roadmap mainly focuses on Office 2007 and the upcoming
Office 14.

Regarding Open Office, I see a very high probability of having a similar
solution for it, if XOffice will match the impact we expect it to have,
or the community will ask for Open Office integration.
