Open the sheet you want to be the main master. Then open a second
sheet. Right-click on the sheet tab at the bottom of the second one and
select 'move or copy'. You will get a choice to select the main master
version with an option to copy the secondary 'before' or 'after' the
sheet in the master file. Repeat that for each individual secondary
file. All sheets will the show in the main master file and you can
change the order by dragging and dropping the individual tabs.

Cheers
Harvey

You are likely affected by bug 162467.
https://bugs.documentfoundation.org/show_bug.cgi?id=162467

The fix should be contained in bug fix release 24.8.1. Do you have
already the newest version?

In the meantime you can workaround the problem this way: In Tools >
Options > Draw > General set the measure unit to something different
than the desired one. Apply. Then set the measure unit to the desired
one. Apply. OK.

Kind regards,

Use the text style 'Internet link' for the link and you can modify the

There are two ways to think about a Frame anchored to Page:
1) That its position is anchored relative to position on a page (for example,
Top Center), any page.
2) That its position is anchored to a /particular/ page (but may be shifted on
that page).

It is a common mistake to think, that positioning frame/image/shape relative to page
needs the anchor "page". Therefore this option is now hidden.

Writer seems to adopt the second sense, correct? That is, for example,
if anchored on page 20 of 24, the frame will remain with page 20 even if pages
are inserted or deleted before page 20, correct?

Yes. And that use case is very, very seldom. I do not know any example.

Here is an example: A guidebook (for elections), which will probably be 24 (or
possibly 28) pages, containing seven /pairs/ of pages in which each pair
addresses one topic that is best displayed at a glance -- that is, should be
ideally on facing pages.

Then the first paragraph of the page has to specify a page break with the correct page style. For example the
first paragraph of the left page of the pair defines a page break with page style "Left Page". Such
paragraph could contain the topic of that section. The page style "Left Page" has set, that the
following page has style "Right Page".

Then you anchor each frame (Why do you need frames?) to this paragraph. If you need a
frame/image/shape on the right page, than the first paragraph of the right page needs an
explicit page break with page style "Right Page". Then you can anchor the
frame/image/shape to this paragraph.

I have been trying this approach, with chaotic results. (Several times I exited
the document without saving, in order to try again with the file. It might be
best to start over from scratch, but in my first several attempts I hoped to
save a little time by avoiding that.) To avoid delaying this reply to you any
longer, I've decided to give a partial/work-in-progress reply on the use of
frames.

Why frames? The fact that you are not a fan (especially of page-anchored frames) concerns
me, but I think they are perfectly functional here. The document has a history which sets
major constraints. [I don't want to clutter this Writer discussion with those
constraints, but see "Overview" below if you would like the history.]

Many persons have contributed parts of the document, combinations of text and graphics which are the origins
of most of those page-pairs, and those parts must be respected. In addition to giving the guidebook more
immediate usability, my hope is to "re-factor" it (in the programming sense) to make a path for
continual improvement in easy functional pieces. Frames facilitate that objective: Each contributor can
"own" a topic's page-pairs, organized in facing page frames. Within that organizational constraint,
text and graphics can be edited as needed, without disturbing others. (This is a special case of the Writer
Guide's "Using frames for page layout", in which that layout also respects the organization
/behind/ the document.)

To make this work, page-pairs should maintain their position in the document
without regard to any additions or deletions earlier in the document. That
requires pages that are essentially locked with respect to the rest of the
document, so that unlocked (un-anchored) content flows past locked pages to the
next unlocked page. That means:
 1) Page-anchored frames, Wrap Off, to make locked pages. (I have not detected that the
"Allow overlap" option makes any difference, and the Writer Guide is silent on
that point, so I would appreciate knowing its function.)
 2) Small cross-referenced "Continued on page <>" and "Continued from page <>"
frames just before (page-anchored to the bottom of the page) and after (page-anchored to the top of the page)
locked pages, to guide the reader.

I think I just described two valid uses of page-anchored frames, but there is
one other consideration: Why use frames at all for graphics (which have their
own anchors)? Often an image needs a caption, which must stay with that image
regardless how other text flows. Writer accomplishes that by putting a frame
around the image and the caption text (which text may or may not be part of an
Outline hierarchy). So frames in general seem inevitable.

I tried your suggestion to use paragraph-anchored frames, but the page is not locked, so
its content just gets pushed to later pages. This seems to happen regardless of
Left-/Right-page style. (The nicest advantage of Left-/Right-page styles is allowing the
page numbering to be set on the "outer edge" of each page.)

I appreciate your willingness to take a look at this guidebook. Much as I hate
to abuse your time, I would like to take you up on that offer, but the document
is cu

each pair addresses one topic that is best displayed at a glance -- that
is, should be ideally on facing pages.

Then the first paragraph of the page has to specify a page break with
the correct page style. For example the first paragraph of the left page
of the pair defines a page break with page style "Left Page". Such
paragraph could contain the topic of that section. The page style "Left
Page" has set, that the following page has style "Right Page".

Then you anchor each frame (Why do you need frames?) to this paragraph.
If you need a frame/image/shape on the right page, than the first
paragraph of the right page needs an explicit page break with page style
"Right Page". Then you can anchor the frame/image/shape to this paragraph.

You do this for all left/right pages pairs.

[Election officials have this document only for election day, a 16-hour
day in which they need to be able to refer to the guidebook as occasions
warrant. Therefore the document should be quickly consulted, and should
lay out the issues with as much transparency and efficiency as possible.
Thus the guidebook makes liberal use of page-anchored frames. (As
currently laid out, those page pairs are 2-3, 6-7, 8-9, 12-13, 16-17,
18-19, 22-23. Also, the front and back covers (first and last pages)
have fixed content, so the page scope is fixed on 16 of the 24 (or 28)
pages.) Changes in non-anchored content must not move the anchored
content.]

As long as the paragraph to which the frame is anchored does not move to
another page, the position will stay at that page and will not change
inside that page. You do not want to anchor to page, but define position
relative to page.

Perhaps the discussion would be easier, if you sent me such file.

Is that a fair use case?

So no, this is no use case, solution see above.

Kind regards,
Regina

Thanks for your excellent (as usual) answer, but I am not seeing a way to avoid
page-anchored frames. [The problem has been that somehow a page was inserted
that /did/ affect subsequent page numbers, and yet Writer resists my attempts
to remove a page to restore the original numbering. Similarly, if we add four
pages to the document, that additional content must not upset the page pairs
which must remain on facing pages -- though they can be on /different pairs/ of
facing pages.]

Perhaps you could describe the actual goal of what you want to
achieve, instead of focusing on the procedure that (you think) should
in theory achieve it. In other words, forget (for a moment) about what
you expect the procedure should do, or how should had worked, and
focus on what you actually want to achieve. Maybe someone already
knows how to achieve that.

There might be some gap in the documentation, or in the Guides about
how exactly to use the feature. What you want to achieve, and whether
there is some documentation potential improvement, or whether the
feature is not really working... these are all different possible
issues, and each could be treated/solved in different ways.

HTH,

Do not use page-anchored Frames. Use anchor to paragraph or anchor to
character. For positions relative to page you have the options in the
right drop-down list in section "Position" of "Position and Size" page
of the properties dialog.

If you really, really need anchor to page (Why?), then you need to adapt
the anchor position. For that, do not try to move the object but switch
to multi-page view and drag the anchor to the desired target page.

In Writer the only brakes you can insert are

   page brake
   row brake
   column brake

What do you mean with "paragraph brake"?

Greetings,

If you go in Tools > Options... >  Load/Save > General, there is a
setting to save auto recovery information. If LO crashes, you can then
recover a portion of your work when you restart.

This might help a bit if you are subject to crashes. Just note that if
your document is large, the behavior of LO may become sluggish as it
"freezes" when it performs the autosave (it does on Linux, don't know
about Windows).

I hope this helps,
Best regards,
Rémy.

Sorry for the late reply.

It seems not to work here.
Whatever I try after sorting the hyperlink points to the wrong cell.

I tried the setting "update references when sorting range of cells" on a
smaller spreadsheet. This doesn't work either.
On the original sheet this options crashes LO (out of memory).
On W10 with this option set LO doesn't crash (98 % RAM usage) but it
doesn't solve my problem.

Anyway thanks for your help.

[libreoffice-users] Autotext: cannot create New Category

2024-09-01 Thread Thomas Blasejewicz

Good morning.
Using Windows 10 and Linux LMDE6; LO 7.6 + 24.8...

I would like to create a new "Autotext Category", but a number of
options remain forever greyed-out.

Ctrl+F3 -> Category -> Edit Categories
supposed to select a folder
    either custom or
    standard
-> type new name -> The documentation says "New: Creates a new AutoText
category using the name that you entered in the Name box."

Well, when I specify my custom folder, [New] + [Delete] are greyed-out.
Well, when I specify the Standard folder, [New] + [Delete] + [Rename]
are greyed-out.

The documentation or help files DO NOT mention any hidden settings that
need to be changed to make this work.

And I could not find any myself.

So, what do I have to do enable the above mentioned options?

Thank you
Thomas

Hi Chris,

At the moment, my page numbers in the upper right hand corned of the
header literally say "Page number". I have no idea where that came from.
Te digits are gone.

Uncheck "View → Field Names" (Ctrl+F9)>
Also, somewhere along the line the page numbers, before they vanished,
began to count by twos from the first page, i.e. 1, 3, 5, 7, and now I
have half as many pages as I thought I had.

Seems you have changed the page type to only left pages:
Change
Page Style → Page → Layout Settings → Page Layout → Right and Left

Is the text 'Page number' shaded to indicate that it's a field, or does it look
like regular text. In any case, have you tried replacing it by doing Insert >

happened, I have no idea. It could have been some unnoticed twitches on the

Your problem is that you should be using a database to store your data and
develop reports from that. Your problems would disappear if you did so.

If I were in your shoes, I would paste the contents to a new sheet in a

I think it's wrong. I tested a Database Range for a single cell, and
that's what you'll have to do: a single-cell-range for every link you
want to create.
Think about the range as the destination of the link for your needs: how
could it be composed of a group of cell?

You are right. I've done more tests and indeed after sorting I noticed
Database Range was expanded to the entire column of numbers.
Link continues to work, bit it doesn't point to a single cell: it point
to the entire expanded range.

Not what you were searching for.

But I made other tests, and probably found the solution :-)

Remember my previous posts, when I wrote to keep the flag "insert or
delete cells" on?
Well, I was wrong: if you DON'T KEEP ON that flag you will obtain the
effect you are searcing, even after sorting.

Try it and give me a feedback.

Thanks, but for some reasons I can't make it work. It drives me crazy.

Right now I've set the datebase Range to $Vissen.$G$2:$G$36432

Is this correct?

Anyway below you'll find a link to the spreadsheet. There is nothing
secret on it.

Row 36432 of the sheet Vissen holds a new entry.
On sheet l-nummers only row 2 (Pterygoplichthys joselimaianus) and row
7 (Peckoltia oligospila) are holding a working link.

Without sorting the links will work but after sorting Vissen to
place the new entry at the right spot (fron row 2 tot row 36432) like
this column 1: C
Column 2: D
Column 3: E
Column 4: G

the links aren't correct anymore.

I usualy add new entries, especially if there are lots of them at once,
on the last rows because it works faster this way.

I think you are doing everything well. I don't see any wrong behaviour.

When you set a reference to a cell via CTRL+K, you are not referencing
"a floating cell", but a specific cell in a sheet, doesn't matter if you
gave it a name.

What you need is to define a Database Range (Data -> Define range),
setting also the flag "insert or delete cells".

That range is usable in the same way as you used a Named Range in
CTRL+K, but will keep the reference live as you wish, no matter is the
cell will be shifted.

Re: [libreoffice-users] question hyperlinks in Calc.

2024-08-30 Thread Java Joe

I think the basics of what you're doing is correct, it should work.

Opening a new Calc file (using LO Community 7.5.8.2 on Debian):

1. Entered some text in Sheet1.A4, and named that cell via Name Box
2. Added Sheet2, and created a Hyperlink using Ctrl+K
1. Select Document from link options
2. Click the button besides Target field and select the desired
target from Range Names in dialog.
3. Set Frame to _self (don't know is this necessary or not)
4. Set some text (what appears as the link) in Text field

This created a valid hyperlink.

The references change properly when rows are inserted or deleted, it
still goes to the correct (named) cell.

I checked what happens if cell Auto Calculate is off, but it still
updates the references.

In Tools > Options > LibreOffice Calc > General there are some settings
for Expand and Update References, but they are un-checked on my instance.

Could it be that you have too much data, it can't process everything
properly?

Did you save, close and re-open the file to make sure the references
aren't updated then?

Let me try to explain what I mean.

I've a spreadsheet containing 5 sheets.
The largest sheet "called" Vissen" contains 36428 rows and is still
growing.
The second one "L-nummers" holds 655 rows
Vissen contains all the formally described fishes.
L-nummers contains only fishes from the family Loricariidae know in
the aquarium trade but without a scientific name.

>From time to time some L-numbers gets a scientific name.
For instance L404 has been described in 2016 as Hypancistrus
margaritatus.

Because aquarists are creatures of habit, many still use the L-number.
That is why all formally described L-numbers are still listed.
To avoid duplication I only mention the scientific name and create a
hyperlink to that name in the vissen sheet where one can find more info.

And that's the problem.

Following the advice of Brian I renamed cell g:32731 in the vissen
sheet as lori_404 and in sheet L-nummers I created a hyperlink to
lori_404. Ctrl+k, document, target, add lori_404.

Works great until I add/delete rows.

Now when I click on the hyperlink in the L-number sheet I am directed
to the cell lori_404 in the fish sheet, but ... the cell lori_404 is now
in row 32769 which of course contains the wrong name. In this case
Hisonotus bourguyi.

I probably doing something wrong here, but I can't figured out what.

HTH,

Martin

I followed your advice anyway but ... your solution doesn't seem to
work. The sheet “fish” contains almost 37,000 rows and rows are still
being added daily. The second sheet contains about 600 rows.

From the second sheet, links are created to the first sheet.

How to proceed.
In the fish sheet I select the desired cell and give it a name via
managed names. Eg. lori_006 In range I see e.g. this $Fishes.$G$32953
Scope: global
Range option: empty

But after some time, i.e. after adding dozens of new rows, it is no
longer correct. The link lori_006 in de second sheet still refers to
cell G32953 in the first sheet but ... not to the correct one. The
correct cell has since become G33189.

Probably I am doing something wrong, but what?

It has maybe something to do how I add the rows.
If I add, let us say 50 new rows, I do this by adding empty rows at the
very end of the sheet. I do my thing and when finished I sort the
whole thing.

Re: [libreoffice-users] 10-keys not working for keyboard shortcuts

2024-08-29 Thread MR ZenWiz
Not to be too snide, but I have had to deal with this practically
forever on Xubuntu (Linux).

I don't find it to be a problem, just an idiosyncrasy I've become accustomed to.

(Rant: I have not had Windows in a native install on any of my
machines since 2007, and now have it only as a backup on my laptop
because it came with Windows - BIOS updates work better in Windows on
my LG. I recently abandoned Windows altogether - too much of a pain
with slow updates, monthly or more frequent S-L-O-W reboots, and
fundamental unreliability. LO on Linux is so much easier for me to use
than MSO, which I also own and detest. End of rant. :-)

Any chance the following could be somehow related?

I admit I don't know how to probe (nor how to prove) whether it is related.

Using a key combination with tenkeys is a lot more convenient than
having to move each to to the top of the keyboard.

Thank you
Thomas

Sorry Thomas, this is expected for the 24.2.1 release onward.

Behavior of the +[1-9] vs +numPad[1-9] were split. On Windows
the Numpad is now only used to enter Windows "Alt-codes" ASCII/OEM and
Unicode (BMP & SMP) [1].
While the +[1-9] keys are assigned to the Sidebar deck shortcuts
(see tdf#158112 and tdf#156443 if you need the details).

The actual keystrokes received from the keyboard are now different
between the NumPad and the number keys.

However, +3 should be opening the Gallery Sidebar deck. Only if you
have made a user profile customization in use
where via Tools -> Customize -> Keyboard you have assigned a shortcut
for the .uno:ZoomOptimal to the +3 control would that behavior
occur.

Thanks for the tips

Versions of Writer.
PCs with wider character spacing.
Linux Opensuse 15.5, LO 24.2.4.2, Intel and Nvidia graphics card
Macbook Air, Monterey 12.7.6, LO 24.2.5.2

PCs with narrower spacing.
Linux Opensuse 15.5, LO 24.2.4.2, Intel and Nvidia graphics card
Windows Laptop, Win 10.0, LO 24.2.3.2

The Font is Roboto-Regular.ttf.
The font was installed from the same .ttf file. The Macbook (with
wide spacing) and the Win10 laptop (narrow spacing) both have
only
the one version of Roboto-Regular.ttf, the same size.

The Opensuse machines both have the same font as above installed
in
/usr/share/fonts/truetype/Roboto-Regular.ttf
The Opensuse machine displaying closer characters has a different
version of the font in
/home/steve/Qt/6.6.2/Src/qtwebengine/src/3rdparty/chromium/third_
party/skia/tools/perf-canvaskit-
puppeteer/canvas_perf_assets/Roboto-Regular.ttf

The Opensuse machine displaying wider spaced characters has a
different version of the font in ./fonts/truetype/Roboto-
Regular.ttf.
This may be the issue, I will remove it and check.

The duplicate of the font has been removed from the Opensuse
machine
displaying wider spaced characters and no difference is observed
making this PC the same as the Macbook with only one copy of the
font.

I have done a little more detailed comparison between the document on
the Macbook and the Linux machine displaying narrower character
spacing.
The line spacing on the Macbook is also greater than on the Linux
machine, I get 2 fewer lines on a page.
Is there a setting that affects the font size that overrides the
paragraph style, no character style is applied.
Steve

Hi Steve,

This is probably not it, but in work for a translation client who
produces large files I discovered that on one of my machines in
Settings>Load>General I had the first box ticked that applies the users
format to the document. That was slowing the loading time and changing
the number of pp.

I would also check that the compatibility options for Writer are the
same on your machines.

Interesting problem. Hope you find the solution.

Best,
Roy

Thanks Roy. I may have a way to resolve the issue.
Settings>Load>General are the same. Compatibility options are the
same. Thanks for the suggestions.

In short, the document with the issue has paragraphs that are bulleted
using the bullet button in the tool bar. I found that by turning these
bullets off and using a bullet list style instead adjusted to the same
measurements as the button list the document that showed wider
character spacing and increased line spacing on the mac now displays
the same as the Linux and Win10 machines with the narrower character
spacing. I will check the other Linux machine tomorrow.

It was not just the bulleted lists, the issue persisted. It was not the
font, a basic document with 150 pages of flowing text in the same Roboto
font displayed identical on both machines.
What I have noticed now is that when a numbering list style is applied
the character style on the Customise tab of the style definition is not
applied, neither is the paragraph font. By chance I noticed when the
cursor was in front of the numbering it was of a font that was not
installed so line spacing was arbitrarily affected by the font
substitution.

I can change the font at any level of numbering from the tool bar in the
head of the window (with the cursor in front of that font) and this
change is automatically saved in the list style definition currently
active (even though it contradicts the character style showing) for just
that level and applied to all occurrences in the document of that list
style and level.

I couldn't find a related bug posted.

[libreoffice-users] ALL custom settings are deactivated after installing 24.2.5

2024-08-28 Thread Thomas Blasejewicz

Good evening
Using Windows 10 machines + one Linux (LMDE6)
Windows installed now: 24.2.5
Linux installed 24.2.3

I do not want to complain, but since I installed the "24.2. ..." version
(a few days ago),
just about EVERY custom setting / macros etc. I set up over the years
has stopped working.
I *** CAN *** set each single one up from scratch, but was wondering if
there is a more elegant (less laborous) way.

This kind of "improvement" has never happened before in the past 15
years or so.

Thank you.

Can you please advise.

Versions of Writer.

The Font is Roboto-Regular.ttf.
The font was installed from the same .ttf file. The Macbook (with

the one version of Roboto-Regular.ttf, the same size.

The Opensuse machines both have the same font as above installed in

The Opensuse machine displaying closer characters has a different

The Opensuse machine displaying wider spaced characters has a
different version of the font in ./fonts/truetype/Roboto-Regular.ttf.
This may be the issue, I will remove it and check.

The duplicate of the font has been removed from the Opensuse machine
displaying wider spaced characters and no difference is observed
making this PC the same as the Macbook with only one copy of the font.

I have done a little more detailed comparison between the document on
the Macbook and the Linux machine displaying narrower character spacing.
The line spacing on the Macbook is also greater than on the Linux
machine, I get 2 fewer lines on a page.
Is there a setting that affects the font size that overrides the
paragraph style, no character style is applied.

For the 2 Linux machines I use LO from the same Opensuse repository.

Just a couple of side-notes, but worth mentioning in order to prevent
data loss...

1. Before using "Save a Copy", you should rather first use "Save", in
order to be absolutely sure that the copy is exactly the same as the
original. Otherwise, you could potentially have a copy containing
additional steps not yet saved in the original file, or vice versa.

2. "Save a Copy" is slightly different than "Save". When using "Save a
Copy", the file you are seeing on screen is still the original file.
If you keep editing the file on screen, the next "save" action is
still performed on the current file, but not on the copy.

3. "Save a Copy" is slightly different than "Save as". When you "Save
as", the file you are seeing on screen is the (new) file you saved
(as). In other words, the original file that was originally opened is
no longer the file being edited and the changes are no longer saved to
it, but to the newly created file, and further changes are not saved
to the "Copy" either.

So, why is this relevant? Because if you save a file to a removable
device and you keep it opened (in LO or elsewhere), then you should
not un-mount nor detach the device before closing the file in LO
(and/or elsewhere); otherwise you risk the chance of file corruption.
In theory, when you "Save a Copy", that copy is not being kept in
working status.

In short, as a general rule, copying a file to a removable device
should not be performed in LO itself, but rather by your file manager,
and better when you are certain that the relevant files are not opened
(by LO or by any other program). Mixing these operations just
increases the chances of file corruption, especially when a removable
device is involved.

Ady.

[libreoffice-users] Restart page number to 1, no show

2024-08-23 Thread MR ZenWiz
I'm running LO 24.2.5 on Xubuntu 22.04. (I won't upgrade to 24.8 until
24.8.1 comes out - I avoid the .0 releases in general.)

I have a document I'm editing in .docx format and want to reset the
page number a few pages in to page 1, with a no-show page number until
page 2.

I have not found a way to do this since LO 5.1 or 6.1, I forget which.
I had it set up right in MS Word, but I stopped beating my head
against that wall as MSO does not install or work for me on Linux even
in Wine.

The doc is a novel, with perfectly ok title, copyright and dedication
pages, but I want the next page to be footered as page 1, and for the
number itself not to appear until page 2.

How do I do that?

Thanks.

Hi Steve,

only a question about the two Linux-configurations:

Do you use LO from repositories of OpenSUSE or from LibreOffice directly?
Do you use different window manager like kde or gtk?
Using the same version of OpenSUSE here…

It seems likely to have something to do with the font you are using, so
more details would be helpful. When considering different machines,
what do you mean by 'the same font file'?

Specifically what is the full path of the font file, and have you
compared the files on the different machines (using e.g. diff)?

Also what versions of writer are you using?

[libreoffice-users] Different character spacing on different PCs in writer.

2024-08-21 Thread Steve Edmonds
I am sure this must have come up before but can't locate any discussion.
In writer the same odt file presents different horizontal character
spacing between different PCs. This means sharing the document for
editing is not necessarily possible.

In the manual I am editing at present the difference adds 4 pages.
The font used is installed from the same font file. Nothing is inherited
from the default paragraph style.
I have 2 Linux machines, same OS, same version of LO (24.2.4.2). One has
wider character spacing than the other, wrapping more lines, moving
images and adding 4 pages. If I apply a character style with -0.1pt
character spacing it brings the wider spacing back close to the original
spacing.
I have given the document to a colleague with Win11 for amendments and
he sees the closer spacing. I have also loaded the document onto my MAC
with LO 24.2.5.2 which displays the wider spacing.

I would appreciate any help in what may be causing this issue and how to
control it. I am particularly perplexed with the fact that it can be
different on 2 near identical PCs.

TIA

I hope this is the correct emailI for this issue. I cannot locate the

Language Tool server is supposed to be there. All the online help presumes
that it is there. The other advice is to disable Lightproof by clicking on

Lightproof is not listed there to be deleted. I also saw advice to the
effect that the Language Tool server is located under Writing Aids. It is
not there either. I downloaded Language Tool but there is no indication of
how to incorporate it into Libre Office Writer. Any advice would be
appreciated. Thanks.

Thanks. But that's not really doable in my case. The cw-sheet holds 600
entries of which some 300 must be linked. Too much time consuming and
prone to mistakes.

[libreoffice-users] edit mode in odm, again.

2024-08-13 Thread Chris J.

Hi.

Libre Office 24.2.5.2  from the latest Ubuntu 24.04 repository and we
all know why we use repositories.

Allegedly, the easiest way to glom all the story chapter files together
in one document is by using a Master Document, hereinafter referred to
as the MD.

Brief recap. The problem last time was that the MD and any other format
derived from said MD, wasn't editable. Once again, I find myself in the
same situation.

I spent a chunk of yesterday roaming the web looking for other forms of
non-editability, explicitly protected stuff etc.., i.e. Tools -> Options
-> LibreOffice Writer, yada yada. There are at least thee other places
besides Edit -> Edit Mode that talk about protection. As far as I know
I've turn them all off. Edit -> Edit Mode is grayed out. I can't export
as an odt and change that either. I'm again left with an uneditable MD
in any form I can find.

This leaves me back assembling the document by hand just to make any end
result have edit capability so an editor can enter changes an comments.
Even the blank character in the text block trick Robert found before
hasn't worked.

What am I missing? Thank you.

[libreoffice-users] question hyperlinks in Calc.

2024-08-13 Thread Martin /Nightowl/ Byttebier
Hello,

I have a spreadsheet with four sheets: "Vissen," "L-nummers," "CW," and
"Verwerking."

I want to create a hyperlink in a cell on one sheet (e.g., "L-nummers")
that links to a specific cell in another sheet (e.g., "Vissen").

Initially, I used Ctrl+K to add a hyperlink and set the target to a
specific cell, such as "Vissen.f31500." This worked fine until I added
some rows to the "Vissen" sheet. The target cell shifted, and
"Vissen.f31500" no longer pointed to the correct entry because the
original cell became "f31510" or something similar.

My question is: Is there a way to make the hyperlink automatically
point to the correct entry, even if rows are added or deleted?

Ideally, I would like the hyperlink to automatically update based on
the target entry. I tried using the formula =$Vissen.f31500 in the
"L-nummers" sheet, which works, but it doesn't create a hyperlink.

Is there a way to achieve this?

Kind regards,
Martin

Re: [libreoffice-users] Software Tickler

For what it is worth, I have found UK's Kalender,
https://www.ukrebs-software.de/ is excellent. I put all my appointments
into it. I can set it to remind me a couple of days in advance so that I
don't get any surprises. The reminder comes up automatically on my screen,
on top of anything I may be doing and if I am busy I can then set a time
when I want it to display again. And it can be set up for important
regular reminders like 'turn on the electric blanket!' etc. And finally it
is freeware.

Feature request could be set in the importance of the bug. It is

Write the bug, post the link to the bug and I could set it as feature

Add an example which show where to add 'Document Information' for a form

Hi Harvey,

One aspect of working with LOBase is the error proneness of keeping
track of, beyond the use of intelligent names, what individual
Queries/Views/Tables are used for. Was it ever considered (and

Write an enhacement request at
