ok, tried moving
solved, I hadnt re-compiled courier-imap after
updating vpopmail and qmailadmin, quick re-compile with
--with-module=authvchkpw as the only configure option and it seems to be
happy..
will keep you posted if I am wrong!!

courier-imap, so updated to development versions, suggested in the list
but to no avail.
please advise if you need to see any config/log stuff etc.

maybe its the rebuilding of all the other packages, since I have only
done the ones which were updated..
