   Try Angler's Workshop 360-225-9445 or anglersworkshop.com. Your

I have a Stonefly brand hair stacker that I keep in my travel kit.
I have a friend that borrowed it and really wants one, but I am not willing to
give her mine. It is plastic in a turquoise color with a clear plastic pivoting
stacking tube. If you have ever seen Stonefly tying tools, you know the color
theme I'm talking about. I found mine a number of years back in a bargain bin
at a Cabelas tent sale. After Google searching for this item, it seems that
this is a UK product and I can't find it here and she doesn't want to go
through the trouble of ordering and shipping one from the UK. If anybody here
has any ideas on securing one of these or have one that you want to part with,
I would be appreciative. Thanks. -Jayhawk Jeff

Hi Bruce,

Yes I received 3 masks in the mail, the 3rd coming From Alan Di Somma
(thanks, got it yesterday).
Add that to the picric hare and rabbit from Iain, and a box of colored,
blended
rabbit I received awhile back (can't remember who sent it- please reply if
it was you),

I have plenty of wabbit now for tying and demos at shows.

Dr. D is going to wear one of the rabbit masks while he is tying, trying to
masquerade as Buggs.
Veronica says that'll be on par for him, since he's a hare off anyway. She
doubts he'll fool anyone, unless there's an real 'Elmer' in the crowd.

Re: [VFB] Hair Stacker

2010-03-10 Thread Don Ordes
I needed a very large hair stacker (1.5 dia.) a long time ago to make my
tailing 'harvest bundles', which I would tie together at the bases and then
just clip tails off of them as I needed them. I've seen lots of others doing
the same thing lately. I made my giant hair stackers out of medicine bottles,
finding one that would just insert into a larger one. Cut the bottom off of
the smaller insert bottle, and there was a giant stacker. I had problems with
static electricity, but I solved it by dipping the bottles in water. Jeff's
idea of the Bounce sheet would work well.

Using smaller med bottles would make nice stackers.

I don't use hair any more for tails, as I feel it lacks durability, unless one
uses something like moose (which I still like). I prefer now to use the
Whiting Coq d'Leon tailing paks, which I can get in many colors and with
speckles. I don't have to stack the fibers, as they are already stacked on the
feather stem- just tear off and tie (or trim bases for small flies).

2010-03-10 Thread Scott Bearden
The ESPN article is THE source for all this misinformation and was written
by an angry lobbyist who didn't get to buy their way with the White House.
All of the other articles circulating around the internet revolve around
this one angry, bitter, guy and honestly I can't see why ESPN doesn't have
the journalistic integrity to take it down. Then again, I don't think of
ESPN as a serious source for journalism. Having said that, the author
doesn't produce any FACTS to back up his assertions and would probably like
it better if you don't read the official paper for yourself.

If you are a fisherman and a conservationist, this was a huge win for us. It
is the commercial fishermen, who this person was lobbying for, that are no
longer going to be able to vacuum up and over fish our coastlines.
Ironically enough it will be the Coast Guard that will be tasked with the
enforcement of this.

I left this list before over such nonsense being posted to the list. I don't
appreciate it, and there are plenty of other places on the internet where
such things are more appropriate to discuss these topics. I think lists like
like have an intrinsic value that is damaged when trolls come in and disrupt
things for their own amusement.

2010-03-10 Thread Don Ordes
Neville,
The problem with political discussions, even ones related to flyfishing, is
that people are passionate about their views, are threatened by opposing views,
and tend to get un-civil in making statements of facts, opinions, and views of
others. Mis-information abounds as a political tactic- it's always been called
propaganda in my experience.

This is why political discussions were banned by Byard- not so much for
content, but for the fact that it leads to flaming and insults.

A civil (unemotional) discussion to discern the REAL facts of this legislation
would be helpful to all of us, but it seems partisan politics has brought such
matters beyond a polite VFB civil discussion, as evidenced.

I would like to know, but not at the expense of the camaraderie here.

It's a REAL SHAME, too. Because wih the resouces we have here, and for what we
have at stake, we could research all avenues apart from the partisan BS and
find out what the real facts are.

Scott,

You make some very good points, sir. But you shoot yourself in both feet when
you digress to flaming. Instead of fousing on some positive points of
enlightment, you bash. Instead of asking questions about sources, you
name-call.

So, istead of enlightenment, we get feuding, bannings, and nowhere. And this
is sad.

Even if I disagreed with Jimi, I would not call him names and accuse him of
being an idiot. Your wisdom was lost to the list because when you point the
finger, 3 of them point back at you. That's all that will be remembered, not
your insights.

The ESPN article is THE source for all this misinformation and was written by
an angry lobbyist who didn't get to buy their way with the White House. All of
the other articles circulating around the internet revolve around this one
angry, bitter, guy and honestly I can't see why ESPN doesn't have the
journalistic integrity to take it down. Then again, I don't think of ESPN as a
serious source for journalism. Having said that, the author doesn't produce any
FACTS to back up his assertions and would probably like it better if you don't
read the official paper for yourself.

If you are a fisherman and a conservationist, this was a huge win for us. It
is the commercial fishermen, who this person was lobbying for, that are no
longer going to be able to vacuum up and over fish our coastlines. Ironically
enough it will be the Coast Guard that will be tasked with the enforcement of
this.

I left this list before over such nonsense being posted to the list. I don't
appreciate it, and there are plenty of other places on the internet where such
things are more appropriate to discuss these topics. I think lists like like
have an intrinsic value that is damaged when trolls come in and disrupt things
for their own amusement.

Yes, I am aware of that fact but I'm pissed off for the following reason:

1) This thread was started by Jimi the Desert Eagle urging us to pass on to

2) Scott Bearden was the first to respond

3) Jeff Frye was next.

4) I was the fourth to respond with nothing rude or classed as a flame at
all.

5) Scott Bearden posted another message regarding this.

6) Jimmy D (the Moderator?) responded Now, Now, GANG! Enough politics. OK
! BUT he replied with a copy of my message instead of a general message to
everybody.

7) Really P'oed I responded This is fishing politics including fly

8) I always say it like it is!

Interim Report Of The Interagency Ocean PolicyTask Force September 10, 2009

http://www.whitehouse.gov/assets/documents/09_17_09_Interim_Report_of_Task_Force_FINAL2.pdf

A Few excerpts;

Climate change is impacting the ocean, our coasts, and the Great Lakes.
Increasing water temperatures are altering habitats, migratory patterns, and
ecosystem structure and function. Coastal communities are

facing sea-level rise, inundation, increased threats from storms, erosion,
and significant loss of coastal wetlands. The ocean’s ability to absorb
carbon dioxide from the atmosphere buffers the impacts of climate change,
but also causes the ocean to become more acidic, threatening not only the
survival of individual species of marine life, but also entire marine
ecosystems. The ocean buffers increased global temperatures by absorbing
heat, but increasing temperatures are causing sea levels to rise by
expanding seawater volume and melting land-based ice. Increased temperatures
may eventually reduce the ocean’s ability to absorb carbon dioxide.
Conversely, climate change is predicted to lower the water levels of the
Great Lakes, thereby altering water cycles, habitats, and economic uses of
the lakes.

The Administration’s support for accession to the Law of the Sea Convention
reflects several important objectives, including strengthening our Nation’s
ability to participate in and influence international law and policy related
to the ocean.
The United States will promote the objectives of this policy by:

• Ensuring a comprehensive and collaborative framework for the stewardship
of the ocean, our coasts, and the Great Lakes that facilitates cohesive
actions across the Federal Government, as well as participation of State,
tribal, and local authorities, regional governance structures,
non-governmental organizations, the public, and the private sector;

• Cooperating and exercising leadership at the international level,
including by joining the Law of the Sea Convention; and

• Supporting ocean stewardship in a fiscally responsible manner.

Or;

1. Healthy and Resilient Ocean, Coasts, and Great Lakes

• Protect, maintain, and restore the health and biological diversity of
ocean, coastal, and Great Lakes ecosystems and resources;

• Improve the resiliency of ocean, coastal, and Great Lakes ecosystems,
communities, and economies;

• Bolster the conservation and sustainable uses of land in ways that will
improve the health of ocean, coastal, and Great Lakes ecosystems; and

• Use the best available science and knowledge to inform decisions affecting
the ocean, our coasts, and the Great Lakes, and enhance humanity’s capacity
to understand, respond, and adapt to a changing global environment.

Many of these concerns are attributable not only to activities within
marine and Great Lakes ecosystems, but also to actions that take place in
our Nation’s interior. For example, our industries, agricultural and
transportation operations, cities, and suburbs generate various forms of
pollution. Industrial operations emit pollutants, such as nitrogen and
mercury, into the atmosphere that often find their way into the ocean and
Great Lakes. Rain washes residues, chemicals, and oily runoff from our
roadways into our estuaries and coastal waters. Heavy rainfall events can
wash sediment, pesticides, and nutrients from our fields, lawns, and
agricultural operations into our waters. Urban and suburban development,
including the construction of roads, highways, and other infrastructure, as
well as modification to rivers and streams, can adversely affect the
habitats of aquatic and terrestrial species.

Firestorms get started in a variety of ways, especially on politicized
issues.

ESPNOutdoors.com inadvertently contributed to a flare-up Tuesday when we
posted the latest
articlehttp://sports.espn.go.com/outdoors/saltwater/news/story?id=4975762in
a series of stories on President Barack Obama's newly created Ocean
Policy Task Force, a column written by Robert Montgomery, a conservation
writer for BASS since 1985. Regrettably, we made several errors in the
editing and presentation of this installment. Though our series has included
numerous news stories on the topic, this was not one of them -- it was an
opinion piece, and should have been clearly labeled as commentary.

And while our series overall has examined several sides of the topic, this
particular column was not properly balanced and failed to represent contrary
points of view. We have reached out to people on every side of the issue and
reported their points of view -- if they chose to respond -- throughout the
series, but failed to do so in this specific column.

This series started in October and has included several updates on how the
creation of the task force and its actions could impact recreational
anglers. ESPNOutdoors.com should have made it clear to all readers that this
was part of a larger series, and -- even though this was Montgomery's
opinion, and those of the sources quoted in the column -- we should have
taken more care to fairly represent opposing arguments.

We do feel it is our duty to cover issues surrounding outdoor sports to the
best of our abilities, and given the nature of this task force and the
potential impact on all fisherman, this was an appropriate topic to address
for our audience. We take seriously the tenets of journalism that require we
take an unbiased approach, and when we make mistakes in the presentation of
a story or a column, it is our responsibility to admit them.

Any confusion on that part rests entirely on my shoulders as the executive
editor of this site.

We have appended the original column to note that it was in fact a
commentary, and we will institute more rigorous editing safeguards in order
to prevent such issues in the future.

The task force stopped taking public input so it could finish its' report.
There are NO current proposals to restrict commercial or recreational
fishing. I'm proud to say that I'm neither a Democrat nor a Republican. I AM
an outdoorsman, a conservationist particularly a fisherman I pay very
close to both State Federal legislation.

RE: [VFB] Here you go Don O

2010-03-10 Thread J Balmer
Please read both paragraphs.

The United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS), also called
the Law of the Sea Convention or the Law of the Sea treaty, is the
international agreement that resulted from the third United Nations
Conference on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS III), which took place from 1973
through 1982. The Law of the Sea Convention defines the rights and
responsibilities of nations in their use of the world's oceans, establishing
guidelines for businesses, the environment, and the management of marine
natural resources. The Convention, concluded in 1982, replaced four 1958
treaties. UNCLOS came into force in 1994, a year after Guyana became the
60th state to sign the treaty.[1] To date, 158 countries and the European
Community have joined in the Convention. However, it is now regarded as a
codification of the customary international law on the issue.

While the Secretary General of the United Nations receives instruments of
ratification and accession and the UN provides support for meetings of
states party to the Convention, the UN has no direct operational role in the
implementation of the Convention.

Please note that DOALOS, the UN agency in charge of administering LOST,
claims the convention covers all ocean space, including everything on, in,

under, and above the oceans. Note also the heavy use of the adjective all,

as in all uses, all resources, all activities. But wait; as we shall
see, the claims go even far beyond this to include global regulations that
will override domestic laws covering not only coastal waters and shorelines,

but also human activities in rivers and inland waterways, and land-based
activities that may be claimed - no matter how far-fetched - to be harming
the marine environment.

Interim Report Of The Interagency Ocean PolicyTask Force September 10, 2009

http://www.whitehouse.gov/assets/documents/09_17_09_Interim_Report_of_Task_F
orce_FINAL2.pdf

A Few excerpts;

The ocean's ability to absorb
carbon dioxide from the atmosphere buffers the impacts of climate change,
but also causes the ocean to become more acidic, threatening not only the
survival of individual species of marine life, but also entire marine
ecosystems. The ocean buffers increased global temperatures by absorbing
heat, but increasing temperatures are causing sea levels to rise by
expanding seawater volume and melting land-based ice. Increased temperatures
may eventually reduce the ocean's ability to absorb carbon dioxide.
Conversely, climate change is predicted to lower the water levels of the
Great Lakes, thereby altering water cycles, habitats, and economic uses of
the lakes.

The Administration's support for accession to the Law of the Sea Convention
reflects several important objectives, including strengthening our Nation's
ability to participate in and influence international law and policy related
to the ocean.
The United States will promote the objectives of this policy by:

. Ensuring a comprehensive and collaborative framework for the stewardship
of the ocean, our coasts, and the Great Lakes that facilitates cohesive
actions across the Federal Government, as well as participation of State,
tribal, and local authorities, regional governance structures,
non-governmental organizations, the public, and the private sector;

. Cooperating and exercising leadership at the international level,
including by joining the Law of the Sea Convention; and

. Supporting ocean stewardship in a fiscally responsible manner.

Or;

1. Healthy and Resilient Ocean, Coasts, and Great Lakes

. Protect, maintain, and restore the health and biological diversity of
ocean, coastal, and Great Lakes ecosystems and resources;

. Improve the resiliency of ocean, coastal, and Great Lakes ecosystems,
communities, and economies;

. Bolster the conservation and sustainable uses of land in ways that will
improve the health of ocean, coastal, and Great Lakes ecosystems; and

. Use the best available science and knowledge to inform decisions affecting
the ocean, our coasts,

2010-03-10 Thread Don Ordes

I still side with Buggs- I don't feel any more threatened than ususal.

Defining the rights and responsibilities of water use is a real task, as
everyone will see it differently.
Politicians can try to manage the people whom they feel are affecting the
oceans in what they decide are detrimental ways. That's what politics is
all about. But defining threats and dealing with them is a can of worms and
a Pandora's box at best, especially on an international scale.

And establishing guidelines for businesses, the environment, and the
management of marine resources equally on an international basis would be
basically ignored by most countries.
What I do forsee, however, is 'power and money' doing whatever they can to
'guide the guidelines' in their favor, even if it takes buying off a few
politicians (like that's new).

Here you go again.

Rube: Someone who is not very intelligent or interested in culture according

Your point is well-received, but tainted. Why can't you just give your points
without the name-calling? EVEN IF it were justified, you still lower yourself
and your viewpoint to less than the ruble level by being a 'name-caller'. Save
it for your rallies- this is the VFB. Obviously you meant to offend, as
apologies to Bigfoot and little green men defined who you meant.
Not to be religious, but Jesus was considered a 'rube' in his day by his own
people's leaders.

Yes, there are much bigger problems to tackle than banning fishing. One of
them is people treating others decently, as we would like to be treated, or
isn't the 'golden rule' applicable any more?
